  • Backup db using expdb/impdb (Oracle 11g Windows 2003)

    Hi Guys,
I'm currently doing backups using expdb/impdb due to problems we have with BackupExec when I use RMAN. But what I want to find out is that would you call expdb/impdb a hot or a cold backup? Or should I say what happens when the user is trying to access the database while expdb/impdb is in progress?
    Thank you.

expdp is not consider any form of backup. It's just an alternate way to export the data into dump files and import when required. You can not do any sort of recovery with expdp dumps.
depends on number of CPU's you have and number of parallel threads you are using, users may experience spikes in the busy database.

  • Change IP Address on Oracle 9i Windows 2003/2008 Server

If I will change the IP Address on an Oracle 9i windows 2003 Server, in a client/server environment, will that cause problems in the database.
Ofcource I will change the lisner.ora script IP address and I will make new alias names on the clients.
    Thanks in advance
    Dimitrios

    Dear Dimitrios!
If you have a DNS-Server in your network then it should be very easy to change your IP-Address because Oracle uses DNS-Names in its configuration. Therefore you don't have to change the Oracle configurationfiles tnsnames.ora and listener.ora. If you don't use DNS then there also shouldn't be any problems if you change your IP-Address in the tnsnames.ora and the listener.ora files.
    Yours sincerely

    Hi all,
I am using oracle 10g /windows 2003 Server with latest patches, the problem is whenever i restart the server instance does not start automatically , i have to start the instance manually.
how could i troubleshoot the problem , oracle not generating any error log for this, there is no information in alertlog.
when i chek the db service in services.msc it said , service started and automatic.
    Thanks in advance

go to services window and set all your Oracle services to automatic instead of manual. this will start your database automatically rather you start it manually

  • 10g RAC on Oracle VM/Windows 2003 server

Is there any documentation/thread/blog which describes installation of 10g clusterware on Windows 2003 VM on Oracle VM 2.1.2 using just direct attached storage? I created 2 Windows 2003 VMs. For OCR and Voting disks, I created shared virtual disks. These disks are visible from both VMs. When I try to install clusterware, both VMs blue screen about 50% into install. The error in CRS logs points to OCR disks not being in correct format. I have tested same process with VMWare server and it works fine. Do I need to do something different for Oracle VM?
BTW this is not my first time installing RAC on Windows 2003. I have done more installations than I care to remember but always on physical servers. I followed the same process as I do for physical servers but it seems that Oracle VM does not like the shared virtual disks.
    Thanks...

Check out my articles at http://dbasupport.com on 10g R2 RAC Clusterware setup. I was able to do that on my vmware BUT I hope to have the very irritating ASM scenario done before my 4th Article.
    Check it out.

The Orcle Server is only used from inside the Network!
    Can any one help.

Are you having the DHCP used for the networking ? My best guess is that either you have the service of the database set to Manual which is not letting the db to be started when the machine is rebooted . What is the error message coming when you are trying to start the db?

  • Switch Oracle user (Oracle 11g Win 2003)

    Hi guys,
How do I switch between users on windows
    Unix: su - ora11g
    Windows:
    Thank you.

    hi try this:--
You can switch users from the Windows Command Prompt without logging off—if say,
you need to access folders or files for another Windows user account.
    1. Quit explorer.exe
    2. Open Command Prompt
    3. Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32
    4. Enter the following command: runas /user:*computer name\*account name explorer.exe
Make sure you are cognizant of which user is logged in because this process
will not change the Windows theme when the user changes
    thanks.
