PCI 1200 board 2 channel acquisition error -10403

I have been acquiring single channel data using a PCI1200 board/Igor Pro 4.01 software and NIDAQ tools 1.22 on a Mac running OS 9.2.
I want to acquire triggered data traces on two channels simultanously. While I am able to run the acquistion in a continuous mode, when I try to acquire a single time limited trace on two channels simultaneously i get an error -10403.
Is this application possible using this board.

Ben,
Your description makes it sound like you are attempting to perform a finite acquisition of two analog input channels. This is definitely possible with the PCI-1200. The description of error -10403 is the following:
"The specified device does not support the requested action (the driver recognizes the device, but the action is inappropriate for the device)."
It appears that the IGOR NIDAQ Tools software is making a call to the NI-DAQ driver that is not supported by the PCI-1200. Thus, you may want to verify with WaveMetrics that the IGOR NIDAQ Tools software supports this particular operation. Below, I have included a link to their support resources:
WaveMetrics Support Resources
Good luck with your application.

Problem: When Windows 98 reboots, it seems to forget the configuration of

I run the test panes, I get the message 'The device is not responding to

  • Error 10403 in Virtual channel Test Panel, but test pannel for device works fine

I am using a simple 10x probe attatched to the NI5112 PCI card. When the device is tested under the devices and interfaces part of MAX, I get the scope input, when I test the virtual channel for the scope, i get error 10403. How can i resolve this?

The reason you get that error is that virtual channels are not supported with our high-speed digitizers. Only devices that can be programmed directly with NI-DAQ support virual channels. The legal way to address a high-speed digitizer is by using DAQ::N, where N is the device number in MAX.

    Hi Tony,
First of all, I am not NI. I am just a guy who has worked with NI stuff and have learned what to look out for. All I can do is try to help, so here goes.
The -10403 error is the driver telling you that you are attempting something that is not possible. After reading your response, I broke out a catalog to figure what is up with the 6703.
First, the block diagram shows no on-board buffer. This is bad.
Second, the fine print (see page 396) shows that only "Programmed I/O" is available (see Data Transfers). This is also bad.
I would suggest you contact NI directly to discuss the posiblity of trading in the 6703 towards credit for an interface that will meet your needs.
If you have any other questions that you think I may be ab
le to help with, "fire-away" (just don't kill the messenger:<)) ).

  • How can I acquire data in a PCI DAQ board using a SCXI rack?

    Hello.
I have an acquisition system that consists in:
    · 3 PCI DAQ boards:
    - PCI-MIO-16-E-1
    - PCI-6052-E
    - PCI-6034-E
    · 3 cables to connect PCI boards and SCXI modules
    · 1 SCXI chassis:
    - SCXI-1001
    · SCXI modules + terminal blocks:
    - 4x SCXI_1121 + SCXI_1320 (for voltage analog inputs)
    - 1x SCXI_1520 + SCXI_1314 (for strain gauges)
    - 1x SCXI_1530 (for accelerometers)
I have been trying to acquire different signals (specially voltage signals that are easier to reproduce) but I haven't been able to do it. I can't read anything from MAX or LabView. I have tested the PCI boards with a SCB68 terminal block (without any SCXI component) and they work properly. Problems appear when I use the SCXI chassis and the SCXI modules. I don't know if there is a problem with the hardware or it is a wrong configuration.
I guess channels in the SCXI modules correspond to analog input channels in the PCI board they are connected to, but I don't know if I have to read data from analog input channels of the PCI boards or from SCXI channels that appear in MAX (I have tried both posibilities, but they don't seem to work).
I don't know if I have to use Differential, RSE or NRSE configuration. I have tried all of them. Sometimes I only read noise, sometimes signal is fixed in a limit value (maximum or minimum, it depends), sometimes it's fixed in a value near zero,... I have changed connections and configuration options so many times I can't exactly say when one thing or another happens.
I have tested only one PCI board with only a SCXI module in order to avoid interaction and confusion. Nothing.
I think I have tried changing almost every option in MAX, but it doesn't work.
I'm sure I'm missing something and solution is quite simple, but I can't find it.
Can anybody explain to me how to connect and configure my system to read any signal? I only need a few steps or highlights. Maybe some clues about what the problem can be.
    Thanks!

I have several comments and suggestions:
    A) Have you "added a device" in MAX and actually added the SCXI chassis? This step is necessary to get the chassis to work. Click on "add a device" and choose the 1001 chassis . Do this for one DAQ card and one module only initially. The Set Up wizard should walk you through the configuration. If you are unable to add a chassis within MAX, I suspect the chassis is not working correctly.
    B) Once configured, you can examine the SCXI channels in MAX as follows:
    1) Open the DAQ card in MAX and Open the Test Panels
    2) For the SCXI channel to view, use the following convention OB0!sc(n)!md(m)!ch where the letter (n) corresponds to the chassis number in MAX (usually = 1), the letter (m) corresponds to the module number (slot) where the module is located in the chassis, and (ch) represents the channel(or channels) you wish to view. So presuming chassis ID=1, and a module in slot 1, and you wish to view channel 3, you would type the following in the channel field for the DAQ card channel to view:
    OB0!sc1!md1!3 (note OB0!sc1!md1!3:6 will display channels 3 through 6)
All of the SCXI channels for a given DAQ card are multiplexed through channel 0 of the DAQ card, Channels 1 and up are not used, hence the initial three characters in the SCXI call refer to "On-Board Channel 0 (OB0)"
    C) For the subsequent set up, it will be necessary to first add the additional modules to the chassis (when powered off). Then open MAX and update the chassis. (If you get an error then simply delete the chassis reference in MAX and add a new chassis). You will then be required to set the interface mode of each module as either parallel or multiplexed. In parallel mode, you associate a distinct module with a distinct DAQ card in the host PC. For those DAQ cards that will address multiple modules, you must first configure the modules to be in adjacent slots in the chassis and then assign the first module to the cabled DAQ card - then all of the modules assigned to that DAQ card should be configured in "multiplexed" mode.
    D) Once the chassis has been properly configured, you can click on each module and set the gains, filters, and terminal block types.
I hope that this helps to get you started.

  • Is my PCI 6071E board damaged?

    Hello,
I have a PCI 6071E board that has been working succesfuly until yesterday. I was working with the digital I/O lines (to generate three control signals that were connected to three operational amplifiers, as buffers), and suddenly, from one trial to another, the board stopped working. Some digital I/O lines remain at 2 volts (with some oscillation), with no response to my user program (in MATLAB). Other lines were at 0 volts. I tried to operate with the analog input and output, but no response was given. After that, I run the test panel in the Measurement & Automation Explorer, but it shows the error message: "The device is not responding to the first IRQ level". Is my DAQ board completely damaged?
    Thank you very much.

    Greetings,
It does sound like your board may be in need of repair. There are a couple more troubleshooting activities I would suggest.
First, you should try installing the board in another computer and see if MAX gives you the same error. If this error is not present, you can then test the functionality of your board with the Online E Series Diagnostic Utility. Below is a link to this utility:
    Online E Series Diagnostic Utility
If these activites also indicate that your board is damaged, you can arrange for its repair by creating a phone support request at the following location:

  • Important question: I have got a PXI-4472 and I am able to do single-channel acquisition. How does multi-channel acquisition work?

Look at the VI: it is quite eleborate, but the crucial point is Data Acquisition and Trigger&Gate (and, consequentely, Write to File operation).
I can add plot on the Waveform Graph DATA, this is rather easy, simply adding the channel numbers in the channel control (es. writing 0,3,7 will collect data from the three channels).
First question: is this operation of adding plots correct?
Second question: does the sampling rate dwindle when I consider multi-channel acquisition? I mean: 1 channel-->100KHz ; 2 channels-->50 KHz
More over, and MORE IMPORTANT: is it possible to set different trigger conditions for different channel
s? How can I control this operation?
Third: can you have a look at the VI as all (the appearence, the functionality, the logical sequence...). I am looking forward to get your advice. In particular:
Look at the frontal panel: what do you suggest to make it "smaller"? More tab controls?
Look at the Block Diagram: do I have to connect ERROR IN and ERROR OUT to every suVI or function that makes this connection possible (as Trigger&Gate and Write File)?
    Attachments:
    Start&StopTrig_SpectralMeas_style+image.vi ‏700 KB

First: yes, the operation is correct.
Second: yes again. When you consider a multi-channel acquisition, your sampling rate must be shared among the channels.
Third: when you specify a list of channels you want to acquire from, the channel considered for analog triggering is the first you put in the list.
Connect the error clusters whenever you can,in particular when you are dealing with I/O operations.
    Bye!

  • Mac G4 crashes using continuous generation with PCI-1200 DAQ card

I've been trying to use a PCI-1200 DAQ card with a Mac G4 to create a continuous analog output signal. The problem is that the computer locks up after a while (a few minutes). I have been using the Generate Continuous Sine Wave vi, but the problem remains.
I've tried slow signals (10Hz) and fast signals (2kHz) but the computer still seems to crash. I have no clue what is going on!

    bissdp,
The first thing I would recommend is making sure you have the latest version of the driver:
www.ni.com > Support > Drivers and Updates > Current Versions > Multifunction DAQ
Another you could try is to determine what component is causing the computer to lock up. Use a process explorer utility to try to see what processes are locked up. A search in google might turn up utilities like this one: (http://www.clarkwoodsoftware.com/peekaboo/)
Keep in mind heat or speed issues. It may sound funny, but you may want to try opening the computer case and making sure the board has enough air flow to keep it cool.
These are just some ideas for now, I hope they help.

  • AI Group Config error -10403 when using DAQPad-6070E

    I am using a DAQPad-6070E with attached device SCB-68.
Yesterday, I was able to read in analog waveforms using the attached file. Today, without any changes made to the file, I get an error -10403 in AI Group Config.
What could be causing this error since no changes were made in the file or in Measurement and Automation Explorer configuration?
My system configuration is as follows:
    Windows XP
Measurement and Automation Explorer v. 2.2.0.3010
    NI-DAQ v. 6.9.2f4
    LabVIEW v. 6.1
    Attachments:
    AIGroupConfigError.vi ‏256 KB

I haven't been able to run your VI since I'm lacking one of the subVIs in your design, but taking a look I have a few suggestions. I noticed that the device and channels controls for AI Config are both hidden on the front panel. The default values for these controls should be checked to make sure that they agree with the device number in MAX. You could place a probe on all of the inputs to the AI Config VI and let us know what values are being sent.
Also, try resetting the device driver through MAX, just in case another program did not release some resources that are needed by your VI.

  • PCI-1200 not recongnized in Labview 7.0

After upgrading the labview 7.0 to 6.1, my PCI-1200 cannot find a driver to use in Labview. It seems like the card is not supported by NI-DAQ 7.0. Is there a way I still can use the card in labview 7.0, like installing an older version of NI-DAQ along with the 7.0? Thanks!

    Hi Tim
The PCI-1200 is not supported by "Traditional NI-DAQ 7.0" or by "NI-DAQmx" (This drivers are installed with LV 7 when doing a default installation). In order to use your board, you've to uninstall the two mentioned driver and install NI-DAQ 6.9.x
You cannot use NI-DAQ 7.0.x and NI-DAQ 6.9.x on the same PC! Only one NI-DAQ version must be installed.

You will have to reinstall LabVIEW and its DAQ support to reinstall the DAQ LLBs. You may then have to rerun the DAQ installer to update these LLBs, depending on which version of LabVIEW you installed. The details are in the NI-DAQ for Mac OS Read Me. Regardless, not having these LLBs installed should not prevent the NI-DAQ Configuration Utility from recognizing your device.

  • Triggering possibilities by the NI PCI-6052E board

Will you tell me, how to use the NI PCI-6052E board for analog and digital triggering. I want the trigger to begin the measurement, to acquire data before the trigger occurs. In other words, the board must response to a pulse input. Also I want to know other trigger capabilities of the board.
    Thanks,
    Gen

I am happy to let you know the PCI 6052E has both analog and digital triggering options. You can set your analog inputs to start acquisition on a rising or falling edge of your trigger pulse. If you are interested in acquiring data before your event trigger you can set up a buffer to capture pre-triggered data. Assuming you are programming with LV and Traditional DAQ you can reference the following app note:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/2A03115556FB233386256870005BB522?opendocument
If the link above does not work, go to
    www.ni.com/support
under option 3. select 'Tutorial/Application Note'
Then do a search for 'Tips and Techniques for DAQ Triggering'
If you are using the LV 7 and the express VIs to set up your DAQ, look under the
triggering tab of the express vi to set up analog vs digital trigger and buffers for pre-acquisition. If you don't have LV 7, I highly recommend it because the express vi's will help reduce your development time.
