Please offer recommendations to replace DTTS 2500 Desktop Theatre 5.1 system
Howdy, all.
After suffering a recent lightning strike to my home, my DTTS 2500s no longer function properly. Because of their age, I doubt the practicality of having them repaired (not that I know how to go about doing so if it's even possible), so I'm looking for recommendations on which current product to replace them with.
I used the speakers for PC gaming, listening to music (audio CDs and digital music), and DVD audio from my Yahama player to my Audigy Platinum's optical in connection on the expansion drive.
Here are a few possibilities that have caught my eye:
GigaWorks ProGamer G500
Creative Inspire 5.1 Digital 5500
Creative Inspire GD580
Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I can eliminate the G500 since there's no receiver, though I suppose I could purchase the DDTS-100 in addition, but that's a bit more than what I was hoping to spend all told.
The tripod stands for the DTTS2500s were very convenient since I have my computer set up in my bedroom. Are they compatible with any current offerings? From the pictures I've seen online and the demo models I've seen in stores, it doesn't appear that way, but I figured I'd ask.

The Inspire GD580 and Inspire 5500 are essentially designed for use on standalone DVD players and gameconsoles (like the XBox, PS2). If you are connecting to a PC, your options are limited. The sets have a stereo input (which will only give you stere sound), or digital input (coaxial or optical SPDIF).
While the digital inputs would be perfect to connect to a DVD player, or to even play DVDs on the PC, they would not be suitable for gaming or music. The connection itself can only pass over either a stereo PCM signal, or an encoded AC3 stream (so DVDs). Music and games may be in surround on the PC, and with analog connections (or Digital DIN), but over coaxial or optical SPDIF it'll only be able to pass over a stereo signal. This knowledgebase article has a bit more detail. The decoders do have a ProLogic upmix option, but you won't get the true positional sound from games.
For use on the PC and other devices, the DDTS-100 decoder is a much better option, as it has a lot more connectivity, including multiple analog inputs, especially for use on the PC. You could combine the decoder with any of our analog speakers.

I've connected the card with the spdif but I have to set the dtt decoder to 4 point surround to hear something from the rear speaker. Without setting to 4 point I can only hear the front speaker (stereo).Now I have deactivated the intern decoder of the audigy 2 zs. Now it is possible to hear dvd in dolby digital 5.!
But only dvd!
In the system management I can check the channels seperately but when I see the acoustic waves (symbolic on screen) from the centre speaker but I can't hear anything!
Please help me...Fixed. If anyone has the same problem, not sure what caused it as everything was working before, but a driver update fixed things up.

Building an i5-2500 desktop...not powering on

I am building an i5-2500 desktop with 16gb of Patriot DDR3 ram. I am using my old Corsair 520w psu and an Geforce 430 Fermi gfx card. I have checked everything to make sure all the cables are tightly plugged in. When I goto turn it on the psu fan spins at the same time as the cpu fan, and does that once. There's a lighton the board that turns on so I'm assuming my PSU isn't able to handle the new CPU. I am running 2 sata drives. There is no video or beeps. Please any advice would be appreciated. I am heading to the store in a bit to checkout a new PSU. Thanks!
SeanDo you have onboard video? You might need to go into the BIOS(while plugged into the onboard video) and set it to use the PCI card.

When I replaced my PC desktop with a Mac Mini and hooked up my HP printer to it, I discovered that my other computers on the Wi-Fi network could no longer access the printer. The manual says Maverick OS will not allow PC's to share the printer. Does anyone else have this problem? My printer does not have on-board Wi-Fi but, otherwise, works fine. I shouldn't have to buy a new one. Is there a OS patch out there that would open the printer port for my PC computers?
I'm assuming that on the Mac, the System Preferences -> Sharing -> Printer Sharing -> [X] HP printer -> Everyone can print is selected? That is to say, the Mac will allow anyone to print using the printer, and that you did not try to restrict who can print.
How is your network configured? Bonjour as a protocol will NOT cross a router boundary. If you have 2 or more subnets active with the PCs on one subnet and the Mac on another, that would block the PCs from seeing the Mac.
You could have multiple subnets if you have more than one router, such as an ISP provided broadband modem/router and another WiFi Router. If the PCs are talking to one router and the Mac is talking to another, that could be a 2 subnet situation. The additional routers must be put into bridge mode, which is done differently depending on the router. But the basics are to diable DHCP and NAT services on the secondary router(s) having just one active router on the network.
Also, using Bonjour Browser on my Mac, it is showing me that the printer is being advertised as using Internet Printing Protocol, so if that is something selectable on Windows, maybe you can bypass Bonjour on Windows. -

There are some people who dispute the details of what "the software" means in the license. From my point of view, I have a license to run all of those versions each license explicity says I can use a VM. I don't think it is illegal or even unseemly. The only version restriction I know of that the new VM policy only applies to Lion or greater. 10.6 could only be run on a VM if you had the expensive server version. The licenses do explicity list the acceptable uses and that includes OS X Server, software development, and non-commercial use. They don't want people selling online access to OS X, that's all.

I don't even run OS X in a VM anyway. It does work but it is quite resource intensive. Maybe if I had one of those new Mac Pros... -
I have a DTT 2500 and it has been very good over the years, but now it's is showing it's age with scratchy controls. If anyone has worked on one of these how much trouble is it to open it up and clean all the contacts, particularly the Master, Center, Subwoofer, and Surround contacts.
Well I found out how to get inside the control module. The screws were under the 4 rubber feet. Took them out then had to remove 4 nuts to move another circuit board to get to the rear of the controls and put contact cleaner in them.
Just an aside I think Creative is devolving. The DTT2500 system is much better than the Inspire 5500 I purchased. The speakers with the 5500 look terrible, the control box is much too light (have to hold it with one hand while pushing the power button or it slides away from you). Having connections on the SubWoofer instead of having all the connections on a control box like the DTT2500 is very inconvenient. All in all the Inspire 5500 is not very good. I believe they should go back to something with a bit more quality like the DTT 3500 or the Inspire 5700. -

In your case I would recommend contacting the Toshiba authorized service partner in your country.
Possibly you dont need to send the notebook to ASP but you will get a new battery under warranty conditions.

Volume problem with Desktop Theatre 5.1 DTT2200
Hi,
I'm experiencing problems with my Desktop Theatre 5.1 DTT2200's volume. It goes up and down with no sense. Doesn't matter if I'm watching a movie, listening to music, playing games or whatever. The speaker system is connected to a SB Live! Sound card but even if I disconnect it and I use the onboard sound plugs it is still happenning the same problem.
Can anyone help me with this?

The potmeter of the volumecontrol is malfunctioning. You could try disasssembling it and clean it but that didn't work for me till yet. Best is to replace the potmeter but it is impossible to find a replacement. I'm told it's a very (too) cheap component unsuitable for frequent use so i think Creative shouldn't had used it in the first place. I'm told it's a ct. component fot the far east.
I contacted Creative but they can't supply me with a substitution, either a potmeter or volumecontrol.
The volume control can't be found elsewhere because Creative designed their own connector i think.
Guess i have to annoy the crap out of myself before i buy another set. -
Can anyone recommend a duplicate file finder application for OS10.6 systems? All the apps I find on the App Store are only for 10.7 and later. I don't know how to filter a search on the App Store by operating system (if this is even possible). I currently have a MacBook running OS10.6.8. If you can recommend an app, please post the URL. I have Lion installed on my mac. My desktop and screensaver, in system preferences will not load. I have to Force close it, after it's been open. I know that I
can change my desktop pic, by clicking "change my desktop, but I would like to understand what made it freeze up like that. All I get is that thing that looks like a piece of candy. Since your Mac probably came with 10.4, there is no longer a way to get 10.5 Leopard install media. IF it has the requirements, you may be able to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard by buying the boxed install media at the Apple Store for $30.

I was changing my desktop screen saver in system preferences>screen protection. Now it says it is "Loading Images" and won't stop. The Colourful wheel goes around for ever and It does not stop. Can anyone help me?

I have seen a lot of cases like your issue, and it's easy to solve.
First, open Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and repair permissions. Sometimes, a permission can be damaged and it makes that an application doesn't work properly.
If that doesn't work, open Finder, select Go menu > Go to Folder, type ~/Library/Prefereces, delete "com.apple.desktop.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist" and restart
