Poor internet and BT sport

Two months ago we got BT TV and Internet. Since then we have had internet issues.
BT sports get an error message ipc6023 and the Internet box shuts down and reloads about 4/5 times every evening.
I have lost count of the number of time we have spoken to the oversea technical department over the last month. All they want to keep doing is to check the line speed, get us to change some settings and then monitor it for two days. Two days later we have another call with BT, to go through the same things. This has been going on since we have had the Internet with BT and nothing has improved.
Three days ago we did have two engineers come out to check our inside connections. They couldn't find anything wrong with inside, but still couldn't fix the problem.
We keep on getting passed around, know one at BT wants to take ownership of this problem. It feels like as long as we are paying our bills that's all they care about.
Can anyone help.

Can you run this checker and post back a screen shot of the results
http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome
and use this speed tester then carry out the further diagnostics and post back a screen shot of all the results including your IP profile for up and down. This test must be done with a wired connection.

if you have a Homehub 5 can you also post the stats from 1-12 by logging onto the homehub management pages then troubleshooting > helpdesk. http://bthomehub.home/

  • Poor Internet performance (ping, download, and upload) even wired directly to modem

I recently purchased a new iMac running OSX 10.8, and have been noticing exteremely poor internet performance compared to what I am used to with our internet connection.  Running speedtests, I typically get results as follows:
    Ping: 500-2500ms
    Download: 2-3Mbps
    Upload: 0.05-0.1Mbps
There more or less reflect the way web browsing feel.  It takes forever for clicks to take effect, but content loading on pages is reasonable for most lightweight pages.  As a comparison, running the same test on my Win 7 Dell laptop, I get more or less the advertised limits of my internet package:
    Ping: 20-80ms
    Download: 18-15Mbps
    Upload: 0.4-0.6Mbps
To troubleshoot the issue, I wanted to ensure it was not the wireless connection or the router, so I disconnected the router and run an ethernet cord directly from the iMac to the router, and I got the same results.  I then disconnected the router entirely and ran the cord directly to the cable modem, and again got the same results.  Questioning whether it was an issue with the browser, I downloaded Chrome and again ran the test, only to get the same results.
Now I feel stuck.  I know there is no issue with the cable modem or the connection coming to our home, but have no idea how to improve the performance of the computer.  I would appreciate some tricks or tips to try and improve the performance on either a wired ethernet connection, or ideally on wireless.
    Thanks in advance.

Yahoo is my home page and News, Sports, Business categories/links changed and now shows a few sentences after each main URL link/topic. How do I put it back to show just the URL links/topics without having to scroll down and down the page. All the extra sentences after the links causes too much scrolling to view the topics.

Those steps did not solve my problem. Here is an example of what I see although it's not exact copy/paste. All I want to see are the links but I get all the verbiage after the links

The area i live in has a very poor internet speed however in the last couple of months it has got significantly slower, where web pages arent evening loading and streaming is getting near impossible
BT call centre suggested leaving it an hour, then a day then a few days and they would 'fix' something. No change ever happens after these calls and leaving the internet unused for days at a time is getting unacceptable

  • BT Infinity and BT Sport Installation Problems

I recently completed an order to have BT Infinity installed, but unfortunately could not get BT Sport added at the same time due to technical problems. I immediately called BT to ensure BT Sport could be added to the order to ensure that everything would be up and running on August 1st which is my installation date. The adviser assured me that I can call BT whenever I want to get BT Sport and BT Sport HD for free once the problems had been fixed and that everything would be fine for August 1st. I called up earlier today and was told that I'm going have to cancel my order and replace the order again to get BT Sport added on, however this will mean my installation date gets put back to August 8th or further back. Normally I wouldn't have an issue with this, but by pushing back the installation date, it will mean that I have no internet for at least eight days and my current provider have been unwilling to extend my broadband for a couple of days unless I wish to renew my contract with them. I'm just really annoyed as I called BT as soon as I was aware of the issue and was assured that everything would be fine, but now they have changed their tune and tell me that it is not possible to get everything for August 1st. If I had been told this when I originally rang, I could have done something about it, but now it is not possible. In short, I'm not really impressed with BT's service and expected a lot better from a major company.

From what I understand BT sport is available to all new & existing customers so I'm sorry to say you've been misinformed. They way it works I believe is once you've got your BT ID after installation, you will be able to activate your BT Sport services by logging in to your BT account once BT Sport launches.

  • Poor internet connectivity through WRT160N

I bought and installed a WRT160N v.3 router about 3 months ago and all was fine.  Recently, however, very poor internet connectivity has been experienced from my other 2 computers connected via wireless.  Last night I upgraded the firmware (actuallly Linksys tech) and it appeared at first to fix the problem.  Unfortunately, it didn't.  The same problem continues on both computers.  I have since done a hard reset and started from default parameters, but that didn't help either.
This appears to be a common problem, but I haven't seen a complete fix.
I have a Comcast cable internet connection and a speed test done on the hardwired computer gives the expected download/upload speeds (~20MBps and 8 MBps).  Through the wireless connection to the WRT160N is another story.  Speeds are less than 0.5MB!
    Any suggestions???

Well, I think I solved my problem.  I had the router set-up with WEP encryption and was getting very poor internet connections on my wireless PCs.  After trying a miriad of fixes found on this site and others, I decided to go to a unprotected network set-up.  I was amazed to see my wireless connectivty jump to the expected speeds for my Comcast cable connection.
Has anyone heard of WEP causing a slowdown in connectivity?
Guess I will try the other security set-ups to see if I can get fast connectivity and a secure network.

  • Avoided poor internet connection

Just bought an Android phone and it doesn't connect to my WOW network wifi. Very shortly after saying it is connected, it comes back with the message: "Avoided poor internet connection." I do not have this problem with any of my other wifi connected devices: iPhones, iPad, Dell laptops, TVs, ...

Do you have smart wifi enabled? It will use OTA data if it detects a weak wifi signal versus cellular service. Turning it off forces the use of wifi, no matter the signal strength.

  • WiFi Avoid poor internet connection.

Why does my wifi say avoided poor internet connection?

  • Poor Internet speed, TC 535kbps but through WAG300N 6654kbps

Ok so I took the plunge and purchased a new TC 1TB yesterday and after going through the Airport Utility setup process everything seems to be working apart from the very poor internet speed when connecting via the TC > WAG300N.

I have tried different Cat cables and different ethernet slots from the TC WAN to the WAG300N, I have also connected my MacBook with an ethernet cable directly to the TC. The hardwired connection still gave me the same speed test results.
I hope I have listed all the information that someone might need to help me out. If you need any further details just shout and I will post them.
One last thing, could this be a faulty Time Capsule?

    Good News
I borrowed my father-in-law's old 3COM modem/router to test out my feeling that the ethernet ports on my WAG300N were not playing ball.
I'm now a very happy bunny! setting the 3COM in Bridge Mode and using PPPoE on the Time Capsule I have my MacBook and iPhone the wife's XP laptop and BlackBerry all running through the Time Capsule
My speeds are now as they should be:

  • Poor internet signal

I often get a poor internet signal for no reason. I have a D-Link (DSL-G604T) router that is connected via an ethernet cable to my iMac. This works perfectly, but it is also connected to my husbands computer via airport and this doesn't always work properly. He is always able to connect to the network, but the signal strength is very inconsistent. The machine he uses is a 17" 1Ghz PowerBook and it's not in the same room as the router, it's in the next room and the connecting door is always open.

Hello. I had not had my airport for 7 weeks after getting a new drive installed, and just the other day did it.... If I may (hoping to not anger Don) add one thing: the interference robustness that don advised clicking is the computer's interference robustness- you also want to do it to the base station (admin utility, configure, then the row of boxes, make airport the blue (checked ) box....then under wireless options near bottom of page, click, and a page drops down...it discusses multi-cast rate, and then you click that interference robustness tab, then the power setting (if not secure cut power back- if you are password protected, blast it). Then click OK,then click UPDATE at bottom.)
(this last one is when the base station gets the instructions you gave it, it will restart, takes two minutes perhaps).
Last night, I wandered my house with my unit, first time since august.... and WOW did my signal power drop when my air conditioner kicked in.... not for long, then it came back to about half while it ran the rest of the cycle...
SO, any radio interference can have an effect: sun spot cycles, hair dryers, microwaves, all the stuff that used to put snow on a TV screen can weaken the signal. Sorry to be a buttinski... Peace C

  • Poor internet

Since I upgraded to Yosemite, I have spend hours trying to resolve a problem, the problem being poor internet, both ethernet and wifi. I know I am getting 38 mb download and my iPhones (two iPhone 6s) and my ipad surf the internet really fast but my iMac and macbook pro do not.  I can only attribute this failure to Yosemite.  As i am using my iMac to write this, I do expect the internet connection to fail very soon.  I have repaired permissions, run Diskwarrior, reinstalled the software from the recovery option, gone to the apple site and redownloaded Yosemite to no avail.   While I might have internet via my iMac for a little while it will stall and fail to load a page, the marker goes to a quarter of the way and then nothing.  At the same time, I can surf successfully from my iPhone or ipad.  Incidentally, I have rebooted the modem and apple extreme as part of my problem solving.  I am sorry I upgraded!!!

  • Poor internet connection over wireless router

We have a modem and wireless router setup in our house. The PC Laptop connects wirelessly and gets a fair internet speed. The Mac Laptop on wireless however gets a very very poor internet speed over the network. Any ideas why this is so?
The speed increases a bit when I hook the mac laptop directly up to the modem via cable, but the wireless is the problem...

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. I know the report is long. Please post all of it anyway.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • NB205 - very poor product and service, do not buy Toshiba!! Completely dead in 6 months

I am posting this to warn as many people as possible to avoid buying Toshiba in the future.  Not only was the product faulty, which I can understand sometimes happens w mass production.  But the service was completely unacceptable, which was the deciding factor for me.
    1.  My new Netbook NB-205/BL started intermittently shutting down for no reason (complete black screen, not even to blue screen).  By the time I returned home from my trip it had stopped working altogether.  The power light will come on, and the fan/hard disk will try to spin for a split second and then go silent and stop completely.
    2.  Upon calling tech support who walked me through a bunch of diagnostic attempts (removing and re-inserting battery, etc.), they concluded it was dead and I needed to send it in.
    3.  The only thing I really care about is my data as I had stored a bunch of invaluable photos and downloaded about $200 worth of Amazon MP3s since receiving the Toshiba NB205.
    4.  Tech support assured me they would back up the hard drive for me and ship either a fixed or new computer with all my data still intact.  They asked me to register it w their warranty department and call them back so they could send me a shipping box to send it back in.  I did all that and it's been >3 weeks and no box.
    5.  So today I called Tech Support again and the guy goes "Oh yes, you have shipped your computer in for a hard drive failure?".  At which point I had to explain how A) it's not a hard drive failure B) I haven't shipped anything anywhere because I never got the box I was promised.
    6.  Then I proceed to ask him again if my data would be safe, to which he informs me it's Toshiba policy/practice not to back up data for customers.  I found this to be unacceptable and then I didn't know who to trust so I asked for a supervisor.
    7.  This supervisor wasn't able to help me either as he further informed me that they will not back anything up for me AND that I had to pay for shipping AND pay an authorized Toshiba Repair Center to back my hard drive up.
    8.  I suggested what everyone who I've talked to has said:  Toshiba could send me a new computer since they've diagnosed the old one as being dead.  I could swap out the hard drives, or they could send me one without a hard drive.  And I could send them back the dead NB205.
    9.  NO was the answer.  Toshiba wouldn't do anything for me, because software issues are NOT under warranty.  And backing up my hard drive is considered to be a software issue.  I repeatedly told him that it's their defective hardware that is causing the need for data backup.  But this went ignored and I was told they don't cover anything in this case.
I either had to lose my data or pay probably $100 for a Toshiba dealer to back up my data for me.  Oh yeah, and there isn't one of those within 20 miles of me and I live in Silicon Valley!!  Oh yes, and they want me to pay to ship them the dead computer.
    10.  I finally asked him how he would feel if he was the customer, and if he felt this was any way to treat Toshiba customers.  He replied by saying they have a process, and this is the process!
Well the next time I and any of you are in our "process" of deciding which brand of technology to buy, I'm certainly not going to consider Toshiba anymore.  This is the second chance I'm giving Toshiba after having a very poor laptop AND service experience in 2000.  Well, it took me 9 years to give them another shot, and I'm never going to trust them again.  I told myself "well, it's a high quality Japanese brand, one that commands a premium in price that people are willing to pay so it should be an excellent product.  AND if things do go pooryly, Toshiba will stand behind their name."
I was SO wrong!!!  Let this be a message to all people out there, as I did read these forums before buying my product, but the NB205 was so new it didn't have many posts.
Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me!  I'm done with you Toshiba, it's really too bad that you will not honor your brand with fair treatment of your customers.
    Ming Wu

It isn't that difficult to back up the data from the hard drive.  You can easily do it yourself for about $20.  http://www.datarecoverytutorial.com/recover-data-from-failed-laptop-notebook/
As for Toshiba backing up your data, ALL of the manufacturer's have that same policy.  NONE of them will backup the data for you nor will they guarantee that your system will be returned with the existing data intact.  This is spelled out in the Warranty documents and is fairly common knowledge amongst most computer users.
If the data was that important you should have been backing it up to USB flash drives, a usb external hard drive, or some other backup device on a daily basis just for this very reason.  The fact that you failed to do so doesn't make it Toshiba's problem.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.
