Portal connection to multiple backend BW app servers.

When our portal was installed (java stack intended for Integrated Planning with ABAP BW system) the BW system only had a Central Instance.  Since then an application server has been added on the BW side.  However, Integrated Planning only works from the CI because that is what the Portal JCo's are configured against.  so it cannot connect with the new app server.  Integrated Planning (via RSPLAN) from the app server will fail as the connection will now work.  This is causing some issues with users logging into BW.  If they want to do integrated planning, they must be on the Central Instance, not the app server.  For one thing, this defeats the purposes of load balancing if everyone logs onto the CI.  The question is can the portal be configured to connect to an additional server for the same BW system.  I'm not seeing any options in the JCo's for multiple servers for the same system.  Any pointers or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Running RSPLAN from the Central Instance brings up a browser with a logon screen and the the correct URL:
http://<portal server>.mikl.com:<port>/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/biplanworkbench1/Modeler?
But running RSPLAN from the new app server brings up a brower with an error message, and the URL is:
http://<BW server>:0/sap/public/myssocntl?sap-client=100
error message:
Error 401
FW-1 at cpwgw: Unauthorized to access the document.
Authorization is needed for FW-1.
So a translation is not happening somewhere.  I verified that the myssocntl service is turned on.  And it works just fine for the CI.

  • Multiple ESS's in one Portal connected to different backend systems?

    Hi,
We have two backend systems installed.
    We have one portal.
We want to create a second copy of the ESS Portal content connected to the the second backend.
Datawise this is not a problem.
But what about the JCo's and the Homepage Framework?
The WebDympro application seems to look for two specific JCo (for example SAP_R3_HumanResources and ...MetaData) and then both copies of ESS want to use this. Is it not possible to have each copy of ESS use it own JCo's and connect to its own backend system for the Homepage Frameworks?
    Thanks,
    Adriaan

    Adriaan,
Its NOT possible to even talk to different clients in same backend system because you cannot duplicate the JCos and while creating them you need to specify the system and client details.
Also it uses a system alias which also has to be unique.
Per my knowledge one portal instance can talk to only backend client and to talk to another backend / client you will need to create a new instance within the Portal.

  • Mapping of single Portal users to multiple backend user

    Hello Experts,
It is possible to map single portal user to the multiple R/3 user? If yes, than what is procedure to achieve it?
I have a SAP Portal where some users have 2 user ID in ECC, but I need to in Portal the users have only one user ID and password. How can I do to these users can select between their 2 profiles in ECC? Is posible?
    Thanks!
    Regards

    Hi,
This is not possible since  you would have used SSO to connect to the Backend. Either it is SSO or User Mapping is done, Portal User can only access the Backend with one User ID.
If you use SSO, for Example if the Portal User is UserA then you would have the UserA in the Backend too. It will use the UserA in backend to access.  (Note: Single User can't access multiple Backend. Since we would have already maintained the Backend Connection details in the System and also in JCo Destination. So it is not possible for a User to access the Backend with two different Backends)
If you use User Mapping, then you can decide the User which it should use. (For ESS/MSS this is not recommended and it is not feasible too).

  • Single Reverse Proxy and multiple Office Web App Servers

    Hi all,
I have recently installed a new office web apps server pool in my new location and configured it in my Lync topology as well.
I have a single Reverse Proxy (IIS ARR). Inside my Reverse Proxy I have created a new web farm for my new web apps server. The configuration of old web apps server. I have copied the settings from my old web app's web
farm in IIS including its Inbound rule regular expression.
Now when I try to upload a powerpoint as an external guest hoping to hit my new web apps server, my reverse proxy tries to hit my old office web apps server and no traffic is sent from reverse proxy to new web apps.
my reverse proxy shows the health of the new farm as healthy.
should the inbound rules be different for these farms in reverse proxy?
    Any suggestions are welcomed.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
In addition to Luca's comment in order to determine if the farm is actually working correctly in the first instance, did you disable or remove the old server farm?
Can you also confirm that there are no static routes in place on the IIS ARR box?
    Kind regards
    Ben

  • BSPs configuration with multiple apps servers

    Hi Masters,
This is regrarding configure ICM and BSPs on our production box with multiple application servers.
We have our production box in a cluster environment.
The central instance is dbciSAP and apps servers are sapaps2 thru sapaps6. The database is on shared disks. Whenever the central instance fails sapaps2 takes the control and become as dbciSAP but the main dbciSAP never become a application server when ever sapaps2 acts as dbciSAP. Since we have configured load balancing concept in production environment the users can login to system thru any application server. This is waht our environment.
As part of our production box to SAP 4.7 upgrade from 4.6C, we are asked to configure the environment to deploy BSPs. We have successfully configured and deployed the BSPs in our DEV and QAS system  (Both are central instances with no application servers) except production box which is due in the next month.
The process we follow to activate BSPs is as follows:
1.Define an ICM service port in /etc/services file.
2.Add the ICM related parameters in instance profiles.
3.Make sure the ICM status is active in SMICM tx.
4.Activate the BSP services in SICF as per OSS note 571484.
Now, the question is how to configure the same ICM service and activate the BSPs since we have multiple multiple application servers.
Subsequently What I am enquirying is:
Do I need to define ICM service ports on each and every hosts where the application servers are running?
Do I need to make changes to each and every instance profile of the application server?
What are the differences in configuring ICM services on central instance and application instances?
Appreciate any help in this regard.
    Thanks and Regards
    Murty Patchipala

    Grasshopper,
I think what you should really read up on is the SAP WebDispatcher.  If are serious about running BSP/ICM across multiple app servers, this is the key technology:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/42/5cfd3b0e59774ee10000000a114084/frameset.htm  This may also answer some of your questions about profile parameters.
Other than that I can share what we did.  We did activate the ICM and services on all app servers and central instance.  The service ports of the individual servers aren't that important now because of the WebDispatcher (at least they aren't visible to the user).
Yes we did make some of the ICM profile changes in each instance profile.  If your settings are the same, consider using the default profile.   Are their particular settings you are interested?  I will look over ours, but I don't remember any huge differences from APP server to Central Instance.

  • Multiple Backend Connected to the same SRM client.

    Hello All,
    We have an interesting requirement.
We have an SRM 5.0 client with R/3 4.7 backend. Now we need to add another instance of ECC 5.0 to be connected to the same SRM client ( either on the same org stucture or a different org structure).
I am facing difficulty in doing the material replication.
I have the inbound queue in SRM blocked and I and getting the error message LOGSYS_FOR_GUID_CHANGED.
This lead me to the notes 588701 and 765018. But I am not sure this would actually solve the problem.
I have also seen the following thread which indicated that one CRM client should point to only one R/3 instance.
Downloading basic R/3 objects into CRM with brand new systems
Has any one so for integrated multiple backends to the same SRM client? What was your approch to the requirement?  Inviting your views and opinions to this issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ajith

    Hi
You can implement corrections in the note 765018 as you mentioned in your post.
We have done the same thing.  In case of multiple backends and also if systems are refreshed with other instances (client copy), the logical system ID will be changed.
So we need to run the report mentioned in the said note and run the replication.

  • Can one syclo server connect to multiple SAP backends?

    Hi All,
I am working with SAP Service Manager application and the backend is SAP CRM.
As we all know that the backend system setting for syclo server needs to be maintained in the JavaBE.ini file
Suppose I have a requirement where one of my screen has to deal with a status update development and the backend in this case is ECC and not CRM.
Can I achieve this ? I mean can we configure the JavaBE.ini file to connect the multiple SAP backend ? If yes please explain the process/steps to do so.
    Thanks and Regards

    Thanks Bill,
As I understand , Going with Standard SAP Integration mechanism means to have connection with CRM system and ECC system can be called internally from CRM via RFC's . Is my understanding correct here ? This can be done If we create a FC in CRM and internally call ECC FC via RFC.
Also I shall try the second approach too. However I have a question here.
Suppose I create a new JavaBE2.ini file and configure it for ECC.
Later when I create java steps will it automatically detect that which SAP system it should connect to? I cannot explicitly tell the Java step to call the ECC system , Can I ?
    Please advise.
    Thanks

  • Is it possible to run Portal 9.2 application on non-weblogic app. servers?

Hi! I am new in WLP 9.2. We starting migration of 8.1 portal application to wlp 9.2 engine. Is it possible later to run our Portal 9.2 application on non-weblogic app. servers?

Absolutely not. Weblogic Portal is tightly coupled with Weblogic app server. You can not run it on any other App server.

  • Connecting to multiple JMX servers

    Hello,
I'm working under JRockit 1.9 150 and WL Integration 8.1.
My application connects to multiple WL servers to retrieve data with JMX. The connections are established when the application initializes and they are kept during the execution. I use this code to make connections:
    Environment env = new Environment();
    env.setProviderUrl(url);
    env.setSecurityPrincipal(user);
    env.setSecurityCredentials(password);
    Context ctx = env.getInitialContext();
    home = (MBeanHome) ctx.lookup(MBeanHome.LOCAL_JNDI_NAME);
    rmbs = home.getMBeanServer();
The problem is that I only can connect to the server which I make the last connection. With the other servers I get this response:
    error[...] [Security:090398]Invalid Subject: weblogic
I can solve the problem making always a new connection to the server, but I think it's not the best solution.
    Any opinion?
    Thanks

  • Configure Multiple App Servers to Use Same Files from Network Share?

    Application Server v10.1.2
We're currently running Oracle Forms and Reports for a legacy application. It is served up by 8 app servers who pull the files from a single file server. We are beginning to transition pieces of this application to Java; how would we configure the OC4J instances on all 8 machines to pull the Java files from the single file server? In my experience I've always just logged into each app server, gone into the OC4J instance, pointed it to my ear file and let it install(course, I only had to manage one or two servers, never 8). That doesn't seem like that would work in this distributed configuration.
    Any suggestions?

You can cluster your Application Servers, and then deploy your EAR to the cluster insted of deploying the EAR on a single OC4J.
    Bye,
    Andrea

  • Installing multiple web/app servers

    Hi all.
Hope someone can help out with this  (BPC 5.1)
We have a live environment with 2 SQL boxes (clustered), plus 3 Web/App Servers which are all configured to go through a load-balancer.
I'm trying to setup a DR set of servers, and have built the clustered SQL boxes, plus 1 Web/App server.
Trouble is that I don't yet have a working load balancer on that site.
    My questions are:
Do I need the load balancer setup first, then enter the LB address in the "Reporting Server", "Web Server" and "App Server" boxes during BPC install?
Would the lack of a load balancer prevent me from setting up more than one Web/App server, as the 2nd one just hangs about 3/4 of the way through the BPC installation and tells me nothing.
Finally, if the answer to the first question is "yes", will I have to uninstall/re-install BPC, or can I just change the settings in Server Options?
    Thanks
    Craig

    Thanks Carlos
    I've now sorted the problem.
For anyone else attempting the same thing:
The load-balancer MUST be referred to by DNS name (e.g. NOT by IP address)
The load-balancer name is entered in the following fields in Server Option on the App Servers:
    Reporting Services Server Name
    Reporting Services Server External Name
    Application Server External Name
    Application Server Virtual Name
    Web Server External Name
    Web Server Virtual Name
Then, once you hit Update on your second App server, you wind up with over 50 rows in the tblServerInfo table (within the AppServer database).
This needs to be backed up, all rows deleted, then go into Server Options on one of your App servers and hit "Update" again.
That way, you get just the normal 32 rows in the table again.
Hope that helps (and makes some kind of sense)
    Craig
