Printer woes

Cannot print off HP 8600 911A on Mac OS 10.6.8.  Using Adobe Reader 11.0.02.

Did you go to Canon's web site and pull the latest driver off?

  • Snow Leopard Printing Woes - what worked for me

I found many print problems posted EVERYWHERE from every printer manufacturer and model and many solutions and some worked for some people. None worked for me.
I have a HP Laserjet 2100M, which is old, but is listed as compatible with SL. I cannot part with it, as it is a true laser printer, not a monochrome, which means when I need to colour separate say a blue and red document, it prints as solid, not grayscale. It has printed 44,820 pages for me over the years, with only laser cartridge replacement as an expense. As well, I cannot find anything but monochrome for a replacement.
It worked on my old iMac G5 running Leopard, however, when I got my new iMac running Snow Leopard, I got "Printer Offline" message and it would not go online and while some solution ideas got it to print, sometimes, it was only good for one or two jobs and then would stop again, or it would say printing and nothing would print.
Here is what worked for me:
I disconnected my printer's usb and power supply, reset printer system.
Went to Macintosh HD-Library-printers-PPDs-contents-resources and deleted all of the HP Drivers.
I got my HP 2100 series driver from my old iMac and put that back in the resources folder and emptied trash.
    I shut down my computer.
    Replugged in power to printer.
    Started up computer.
After fully launched, I connected my USB cable for the printer. I went to add printer and it came up right away and said new software update was available for my printer AND I SAID NO to updating. In selected my driver, and...
My printer and I have reached a compromise!
It still says offline, however, everything is printing anyway... this I can live with.
I also found this link, which I will only try if I encounter any other disruptions

At some point I printed a Self Test/Configuration page which has I/O Port Status as
    USB STATUS - not ready
    and Appletalk Status - Ready
which is probably a good clue, however, I have been printing successfully for 15 hours and my hair is starting to grow back.

  • HpEenvy 4500 Printer Woes and Windows 8.1

Has anyone figured out how to get the Hp Envy 4500 Printer to keep on printing in Windows 8.1? We have called tech support twice, they remotely accessed our computer to set the drivers correctly. At first the printer worked right maybe once or twice then suddenly it stops printing and we are back where we started from. The Printer is past the 14 day Best Buy Return Policy and we are stuck with it!

Hello @RLS1 , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you are experiencing connectivity issues.  I would like to help!
I would recommend powering down your computer,  disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, and remove the power from your router for 60 seconds.
After 60 seconds, plug the router back in.  Once the router has begun broadcasting, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
After the printer is on, re-run the wireless setup.

  • ID CS3 printing woes - again!

OK I'm about to rip out my last few strands of hair on this one.
I am running OS 10.5.5 ID CS 3 5.03 on a MacBook Pro.
In the past I have been able to print to a Konica Minolta BizHub 350 printer with out any problem. Nice quality print and everything just worked.
Over the past few months more and more documents simply refuse to print. I have checked the print set up, installed the latest drivers for the printer and nothing prints. The print dialog comes up like it should, I see the page numbers count off as the file is prepared. I open the printer dialog box and watch the information being sent to the printer and wait, and wait, and wait. Nothing comes out of the printer.
Though several with print issues like to wag their finger at the latest OS X update this problem predates that with me. If I was to point any fingers it would be at Adobe with their updates to InDesign.
One more oddity I frequently have is ID almost crashes. The open windows disappear but ID still shows open in my dock. The only way I can get back to the document is to force quit then re launch ID
My work around has been to export as a pdf and print from Acrobat (with the reduced print area)
Any yes, I have launched all applications including my other Adobe apps on my machine and printed to this printer without any problem.
Can we expect more of this nonsense from ID CS 4 when it comes out?
    Regards,

Not sure if you're still checking this posting, but we're in a similar bind now with CS4.
We have a mixed environment of Intel Machines and G5s, all running CS4 and OSX 10.5.8. We used to print to a CREO Rip hooked up to an Ikon Printer and it was swell. We now have a Konica Minolta BizHub Pro C5501 hooked up to a Fiery RIP (which is essentially the same machine as we had before, just newer) and all hell has broke lose.
We've lost the ability to just pick a paper size and print. We have have to go through a very complicated set of menus and choose size in a bunch of settings to get the printer to print our work. A lot of the time it just refuses to output on 11x17 or 12x18. A lot of the times InDesign just hangs when printing and then crashes. Sometimes the files RIP then error out with no reason. Then they print just fine.
My tech guy believes it's an issue with the Fiery. It seems that it's more of a CS4 issue to me after reading some of these posts.
How are you making out now? You probably have CS4.

  • IMac 24" to HP 5100 printer woes

I just got an HP 5100 printer to replace my old faithful 4MV but cannot get the new printer to print. I simply connected the ethernet cable from the 4MV to the 5100 Jet Direct card and all seems to work normally but, when I send a page to print, nothing happens. I've selected the 5100 in the print window and, in the printer monitor window, the file is qued up and the message is 'attempting to connect to host NPIB956A5.local. for printer BINPS'. The file is an Illustrator CS3 file.
When I connected the 4MV a while back I had to assign an address to the printer before it would print (actually got a friend to do it). Do I have to go thru that step with the 5100? If so, can you direct me to specific directions?
Note: the 5100 seems to be OK and prints a configuration page normally so I don't think the printer is the problem, just the connection.
    Can you help? Thanks.

Check the printer config page printout for current IP address. Check your Mac Network prefs to identify your local subnet. Your router and your computers' IP address will begin with something like 192.168.1. or 10.0.0. and these first three parts are the subnet. Use the printer's panel menu to set the printer's IP to be in the same subnet, but put the last part away from the computer(s). Example: computer 192.168.1.3, make printer 192.168.1.100.
Now, add the printer in Mac Print & Fax prefs using IP > HP Jetdirect and the IP you have set.

  • Print Woes...can't believe no one can help???

I am at wit's end. I installed Leopard month's ago and have had problems printing ever since. I can print to a 8-1/2 x 11 through Quark, but cannot print 4x6 borderless prints in Imagebrowser any longer. I also recently downloaded the new 6.0.7.38 Imagebrowser. I click on "Print Photo" and it sets up for 4x6 borderless but when I click on "Print" absolutely nothing happens. I also used to get all kinds of options for Quality, type of paper etc., and get that no more when using "Print Photo". I tried "Layout" printing and that seems more like the old imagebrowser, I get the Quality/paper settings, but still when I click on "Print" absolutely nothing and sometimes crashes Imagebrowser. Everyone says its the drivers, but Quark prints fine to paper so don't think it's the drivers but think its Imagebrowser...Any ideas??? I only seem to be able to print 4x6 borderless prints through Imagebrowser and now can't do that. I used to be able to print perfect photos this way and now nothing...makes you want to throw everything out the window when you can't get any help and you don't really know what you are doing. If anyone can help I would appreciate it but venture to guess there are no takers because no one seems to know what to do. Thanks anyways...Gary

    Hello Gary,
You may recall I previously tried to help you with this same issue that you posted previously (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7270450#7270450).
With my last reply I provided some more information but you didn't respond to it. If you were not happy with the help you were getting then, you should have said so rather than start a new post making out that no one is helping you.
You could always give Canon a call since it is their application you are having trouble with. But considering you don't want to give points to anyone that does offer some help, I guess you would be even less inclined to pay for support...

  • Novice Q - Printing Woes

    Good morning all;
I'm an amateur photographer looking to get a little less amateur in my ways, so I have decided to give Aperture a try. I have the Luna/Long book and after working through that, I find I that I like Aperture (version 1.5.6), I think it will be more useful than iPhoto for a lot of things. I also have the 2002 version of Photoshop Elements (it's pretty old and not that feature-rich), which came with my printer. Speaking of which, here's my hardware setup:
    - 2006 20" Intel iMac, 2.16 GHz, 2 GB RAM, ATI Radeon X1600
    - HP Photosmart 8250 printer
    - CanoScan 8400F scanner (can scan film/negatives too)
    - Canon PowerShot S1 IS camera (3.2 MPix)
There are ColorSync Profiles in the system for several HP Paper types, and several types of scanning medium (negative film, positive film, etc.). So, I believe I'm okay as far as Profiles go. I have Verified them as of last night. Oh, there's a camera profile in there too, but it only shows up when the camera is plugged into the iMac.
Here's my story - I am recently married (10-Nov) and our photographer shot 35mm film. Not a big deal, the photos turned out great. She gave us the proof book, as well as all the negatives. I decided to scan the negatives into my computer here. The images that occurred after scanning did not look like the 4 x 6 printouts that were created at a local photo place with the negatives.
However, that's another story. Right now I'm just concerned with getting a printout that resembles what is on-screen.
Aperture has the ability to soft-proof images on-screen, which is very handy. Unfortunately the proofing using any of the 3 HP Paper profiles installed looks terrible - way to red and faded. The printouts, they look the same as the soft proofing. I bet I have printed off 150 4 x 6 prints since XMas trying to figure this out.
There are a number of Output Profiles available in Aperture's Print dialogue. Yes, my f'd up HP Paper Profiles are in there too. The installed HP Printer Driver/Software also gives me some choices as to what kind of profile to use, although those choices are more generic and there's always been only 5 options no matter what software is used to print a photo.
No matter what options I select, either in Aperture or in the Printer Options, my Aperture prints are always coming out too red and faded, exactly like the soft-proofed image using the HP Paper Profiles. That's my problem with Aperture.
The ColorSync Utility tells me exactly where the offending color Profiles are for the HP Paper types. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to drill down through the folder structure far enough to get at them and delete them - they seem to be buried in a file titles hppsmart_PMplugin. ColorSync shows additional levels of folder structure after that particular file, but I cannot access that through the finder. Spotlight searches are of no use either.
Anyone got any suggestions for me?
The photo printoffs from iPhoto/PS Elements 2 are better - I can make it so that there's no reddish cast, but neither of those programs has the advanced fine-tuning features that Aperture has. Yes yes, I've read all the Aperture vs. Photoshop debates and PS is more advanced for pixel crunching, but given the software I've got, Aperture is the most advanced for image modifications. Thanx in advance.

I enjoyed Cloverfield quite a bit. Matt Reeves and JJ Abrams have done a great job with the concept. I had two minor gripes with the movie, 1) there seemed to be some inconsistencies in the size of the monster (my wife & friend didn't notice though, maybe it's just me), and 2) how did anyone find the camera afterwards?
Back to the Aperture printing issue. I believe that I have figured out what the problem is. I spoke with HP customer support last night and they were not helpful in the slightest. The HP support guy wasn't even aware that the bundled printer software installed those paper profiles. Pretty much a waste of time.
When the printer is installed, several files are deposited in the /Library/printers/hp/photosmart/ folder. Three files actually, but one of them contains my three f'd up HP paper profiles. I found this out via ColorSync.
ICC Profiles, normally, are independent files that usually sit in another folder, but really, they could be anywhere. Through the Finder, all I can see is those three HP-installed files in the abovementioned folder tree.
However, with ColorSync, it identifies several deeper folder layers that are somehow embedded inside that 20 MB hp file. Digging with with ColorSync, I found that the HP file contains all kinds of paper profiles for all kinds of Photosmart printers. That's great and all, but I can't use them and they probably wouldn't work right either.
I'm at work now, and I can't remember all the details, but ColorSync, in the Devices Tab, will let you change a particular profile's contents, meaning that it's still called Profile A, but you could point it at Profile B's ICC file and Profile A = Profile B. So, I tried doing that for my 3 HP profiles, pointing them all at the HP ColorMatch/sRGB profile, but it didn't work. My Aperture printouts were still messed up as usual.
Next step was to delete the 20 MB HP-installed file in the Library/printers/hp/photosmart directory. This had the pleasing effect of removing the 3 HP profiles from the output profile options list in Aperture. I was hopeful at that point.
Unfortunately, that file is part of the printer driver system and the printer didn't work with that file missing. Crap.
So, what have I learned here?
I believe Aperture is installed, set-up and being used correctly.
I believe that my HP printer is installed, set-up and being used correctly.
I believe that the embedding of the ICC profiles in the printer driver file is causing my problem. Somehow, when a Color Managed Application (like Aperture) sends a print job, the driver for the printer overrides whatever the application wants and defaults to one of the three embedded profiles it has handy.
I really wish that I could get into that file and remove those offending profiles. I'd be happy just using the ColorMatch/sRGB setting and leaving it at that.
So, that's about where I'm sitting right now. If I continue to use Aperture, I'm going to have to come up with another method of printing out images at home. Any suggestions?

  • Sending print data..... Epson printing woes

Connected to my Macbook Pro 17" (10.6.2) is my relatively (Important bit) Epson R285 printer. The other day it started to refusing printing full stop. I would send a print job, and get the external 'Sending print data....' and that would be it. I thought I was going mad, I reinstalled the drivers, deleted loads of preferences, ran Onyx a few times and nothing.
At the same time, the 'low ink' light was flashing but like everyone else i just ignored this. I was ready to reinstall the OS and all my apps I was so desperate! I have VMWare Fusion running XP so I thought, worst case I can always print from there. Time to put the new ink in. Since it was a new printer it had those 'test, half-empty/half full cartridges' installed so €45 later, 3 new inks were installed.
On a whim, I tried printing again from 10.6 and low and behold..... it printed! Now this raises a couple of questions:
    1. Why doesn't the print dialogue be more explicit in this situation: Hey 'I am not going to print unless you top me up' Granted there is a 'low ink' light and icon but not a 'bugger off, I'm not gonna print icon'
    2. Is this Epson forcing the user to buy new ink? I always use to print regardless what ink was missing, invariably I just needed to print and could handle an odd colour. Now, low ink means, 'go buy more ink and I shall print!'
Anyway, anybody who has similar 'Sending print data...' print issues with an Epson printer, check you ink as it may just solve your printing problems!
    regards, chris

By any chance are you using the "Gutenprint" driver for your printer? A poster in another thread noted that switching from a Gutenprint driver to a driver from Epson enabled the ink status capability.

  • Bizarre printing woes

Our S9000 printer was working fine, until the ink pad (where waste ink goes) filled and we had it replaced at an authorized service center. The technician reset the system board in the printer and we thought all was well.
When we reconnected the printer, it was not auto-reset to it's former queue, but a new one was created called "bj f9000". At first things were ok but then we noticed that the driver doesn't support 11X17 paper. Seeing that it wasn't the S9000 driver we were using before we attempted to reset it. I went to the printer setup dialog and the printer model drop down is greyed out, I can't change it.
So I deleted the printer and attempted to add it again. It tried to set the BJ F9000 printer driver again but instead I went to the Canon category, but the S9000 is no longer there. I can't even find an S9000 driver on my computer after searching.
I downloaded the driver from Canon and went through the install which made me reboot. After reboot, still no driver despite the fact the installer said the install was successful.
I am either missing something impossibly obvious, I'm losing my mind, or something inbetween.
    HELP!!!!
    G5 Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   Canon S9000 Printer

I know this is going to sound absolutely ******** and you have probably already tried doing this, but try running the installer twice in a row. Install it and then install it again. I had a similar problem with installing an epson printer driver. It said that it installed the first time but all that it installed was an empty folder (verified in terminal) and then I tried it a second time and it installed itself. I think the problem I had stemmed from a permission problem, even though when I corrected the permissions there was nothing to correct. But the installer couldn't install into files that hadn't been created yet (possibly they tried to install the driver and then the folder containing the driver so the only thing that was installed the first time was the driver folder.)

  • Printing Woes...any ideas?

OK, so I am having some printing issues: Following a OSX Archive and Install I find that I cannot print. I tried re-installing the print drivers but I still get a "print jobs have been stopped" notice. Upon restarting the jobs they simply stop again. I suspected that my always buggy Epson all in one's drivers were to blame and since I've been thinking of a laser printer for B&W stuff i bought a neat little samsung today.
The Samsung driver installed without a hitch and the printer is recognized when I try and print, But, guess what: The "print jobs have been stopped" warning is back and the jobs will not restart.
I gather that this issue is not uncommon. The aged eMac at my office sometimes does the same thing. Problem is that I am totally unable to get the iBook to print to anything.
Interestingly, the Epson's scanning drivers still work fine.
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks to all...

The "combo update" is an OSX system update file of significant upgrades
to the step you are running in the computer, should it be an older version
and you wish to update from, say 10.4.1 to 10.4.8, you'd download and use
this. [Once you use Software Update to get this semi-automatically, you'd
have to go into Support>Downloads and get the stand-alone update by it-
self and run it manually to reinstall it over the top of what you already had.]
There is a link to the PPC version 149MB download of 10.4.8 Combo from this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1048comboupdateppc.html
Repairing disk permissions before and after updates and upgrades to the OS
and installation of some third-party applications is recommended. The drivers
you are getting may be older than the ones included in OSX 10.4.8.
For real driver issues, some users get other drivers from opensource
such as the onces formerly called "gimp." I've never used them, but
I've read these can be helpful in controlling some printers and output.
If the printer setup repair does not help, you may wish to try other ideas.

  • LR 2 color management printing woes with B9180

I have been going nuts trying to get accurate prints with LR2 and the HP B9180 (I use a Mac with Leopard 10.5). When I set "Managed by Printer" in LR2, and then click on Print to open up the B9180 print driver dialog, under the "Color Matching" tab the "Vendor Matching" option is selected, and there is no way to change this since it's grayed out. I thought Vendor Matching means that color management is turned off in the printer driver! That would mean there is no profile selected for the print.
Alternatively, if I choose a color profile in LR2, and then click the Print button, under the "Color Matching" tab the "Colorsync" option is selected and there is no way for me to unselect it and choose Vendor Matching instead since the selections are grayed out. In that case it seems I am double profiling.
Do I misunderstand how this is supposed to work? I have a calibrated display. I wish the B9180 just has a button that said "no color management" but it doesn't....
    Thanks,
    Peter

    DYP,
Nope using home made profiles using Spyder3Print.
I don't need to touch the ColorSync Utility.
From what I have read about 10.5 printing and the HP, when you are using an application to color manage, 10.5 will turn off color management in the printer driver automatically. So all I do, is select the profile in Lightroom, and set the paper type/quality the same as when I created the profile (I have a preset in the print dialogue for this) and then print.
Using the CU work around is a pain and it should not have to work like that. Changing profiles should not have to go through hoops and using a bunch of different apps just to print.
Have a look at Russell Brown's video as well. It's linked on my DPReview reply.
    Shrey
PS The other way of printing with profiles on the B9180 is to add the custom profiles in the Custom Paper option in the HP Printer Utility. Then in Lightroom select Managed by Printer and in the printer dialogue, select the custom paper and either AdobeRGB or ColorSmart. That worked well while Lightroom's printing in 1.4 was messed up.

  • Printing Woes Adobe Reader 10.1.1

I'm having trouble printing from the new version of Adobe Reader 10.1.1.  I was previously using Version 8 but a website I was printing patterns from sent me a pdf which required me to upgrade to Version 10.1.1 to access it and now I can't print my patterns.

I believe fixes was made in Reader 10.1.5+ to address protected mode in Citrix.
Can you give that a try?
If you are using Citrix Provisioning Services or SCCM/SMS to deploy out versions, every version of Reader/Acrobat in the farm should be uniformally deployed.  You can see the verison in the "Help" menu... "About..."
If you are using PDF through browser, you can still bring up the preferences via "Control K" when the PDF is viewed in browser context.

  • Home Office to Office iMac and Printer Woes

I have a 24" iMac that I use at my home office and then transport (using the iLugger) to another office. I am bought two Canon MP510 printers so I wouldn't have to lug a printer back and forth.
When I connect the printer to the iMac it will not respond. I have to reload the driver and everything works fine. When I get back to my home office and connect the cable the same thing happens - I have to reinstall the driver. I can't figure what is going on.
    Thanks and Happy new Year!
    Frank

I could imagine this happening with the Ethernet models, as the printer connection for network printing is based on the printers Ethernet (MAC) address. But for direct USB connections, I don't see why you would have to go through this process every time.
For the record, I don't have the same model of PIXMA at home and at work, so I've never had to work with this scenario. However I don't believe you should have to reinstall the queue every time.
The only thing I can suggest is that when you connect the printer USB cable to the iMac, make sure that the printer is turned off (this may require unplugging the power cord).

You are still under warranty w/HP.  Suggest that you call their tech support department.  Ask them, when they will supply drivers that will work w/Maverick.

  • CRXI sp2 - sp4 printer woes

    Post Author: jtcrystal
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
I have a VB6 application using Crystal Reports XI that is imbedded within.  The problem is that the reports are viewable and legible with SP2 installed.  When we updated to SP4 the reports are now displaying with u201Ccharacter boxesu201D and such instead of characters, basically garbage.  And to make matters worse, it does work fine for some printers and not others such as a Lanier 5627 printer.
If the garbage reports are exported and viewed in Adobe they are fine.  So Iu2019m assuming it has something tied to the WYSIWYG and SP4.   *shrug
The only difference between seeing legitimate characters and the garbage is the change between SP2 and SP4.
Does anyone have some insight or suggestions to help get over this hump?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Sorry, no full build of SP6, only incremental. You could look for the backup files from the SP6 install and delete them but you won't have the option to un-install it then.
Try deleting the files in your temp folder also.
CR XI R2 is past it's escalation life cycle meaning no more patches. What you have is all you can get now. Except for Fix Packs 6.1, 2, 3 and 4.
    Thank you
