Qosmio G50-10h - strange display issues

My Qosmio G50 was running less brightly for a few months, then experienced intermittent fault whereby Qosmio logo would show on the screen, then the windows logo for a split second, then the screen would black-out completely. Restarting or hitting function f5 might resolve the situation. Now the problem has become permanent. I cannot get the screen working other than to show the qosmio logo, then a bit of the windows start up, then black-out.
I have been through the maintenance manual and options are Inverter? Screen? fluoro? System board? That is the question... Without all the spares, it's difficult to determine what is the cause... I Have an inverter on order but they have sent two wrong parts and when the right one does eventually arrive i am not sure that's going to cure the problems
Really need to use the computer. Your thoughts and assistance will be greatly appreciated
Kind regards
Simon Riley
(ironysmile)

Macius, thanks for your thoughts...
I tried f8 at start (don't know how to do the bios thing)... The f8 resulted in a black screen which I was able to flip into working for a second by pressing fn f5 twice (switch screens and backs again)... This cause a slight fizzing noise from the area of the inverted and then blackout again... Did this a few times as start up took place and then it stopped working and was irretrievably blacked out
Does this help narrow down the search any further?

  • Where to buy an Qosmio G50-10h

    Hi
I want to buy a Qosmio G50-10h. However none of the g50 range seems available from the toshiba site
    ...nor anywhere else
Does anyone know why it is not available and when it would be?
    Thank you

    > I was going to get a g50 too - don't Toshiba want to sell their stuff, or have they discovered something wrong with them? If they're not available very soon, I'll have to go with other notebooks.
LOL you are funny guy Maybe the Qosmio G50 is out of stock because its a really nice notebook and many people want to buy this unit ;)
    Did you think about this??
I dont know why UK dealers dont have this unit on stock in my country (Germany) I could find several online shops and dealers who offer this notebook series

  • How many WLan antenna's are installed in Qosmio G50-10H?

I am trying to connect a DIR-855 D-Link to the G50 build in WIFI Link 5100 and can't get an connection higher then 150Mbps.
According to the specs of pre-N v. 2.0 at least 3 antenna's are needed to reach higher then 150Mbps.
So my question is how many antenna's does the Toshiba G50-10H have. build in.

I assume the Qosmio G50-10H supports 3 wires WLan antenna because the built in WLan card Intel 802.11agn ShirleyPeak MiniCard supports the 802.11 Draft-N and this is a presupposition for such Draft N support.
PS: In your case I would recommend checking the +device manager -> WLan card properties -> Advanced tab+ if the draft N and other needed settings have been enabled

  • Qosmio G40-108: starange display issue with highest resolution

I just got mine but on its highest resolution all webpages have these 11 semi-rectangular blocks, barely visible, only the bottoms, each about an inch long, is this normal and should i send it back to be investigated?

    Hello
It is very nice to hear that you already have newest Qosmio notebook. About your issue I can not say much because without one screenshot it is not easy to understand what you mean exactly. On my Qosmio G30 (with the same HD resolution) I have no problems at all. Because of that I can really not understand what is wrong there.
If possible post a link where we can see how it looks like. Your description is not enough.
BTW: have you noticed this on web pages only?

    Hi
    I dont understand you too
Please post clearly what problems you have with the Qosmio G50 notebook.
I read something about CD/DVD drive (Teac) and masterizze what do you mean by masterizze?
Secondly; as far as I know this Qosmio notebook was equipped with Panasonic (UJ-841) DVD-SUPER-MULTI (+-R DL) drive I didnt find any info about Teac

  • Strange display issue on my Qosmio E15-Av101

    Hello all,
Strange problem... picked up this E15-AV101, with 1Gb of ram and a 100Gb HDD have wiped it and started fresh with the Qosmio player disc and then the Recovery disc.
All works fine in windows... but if the system is off and I try to use the qosmio player by pressing the tv button or the button next to it a white screen comes up that disapates to black with green and red lines, but i can hear the dvd playing and the controls operate.
What would be causing this as all works fine in windows when I start Media Center.
Running bios ver. 1.60 and all the latest drivers from the site
I hope someone has some insight into this as I am stumped
Thanks for all and any help you may offer

If you want full support then contact a local servicepartner or call the toshiba hotline.

  • Strange display issues for previously healthy SWFs

Many months ago I published SWFs via Xcelsius 2008 that were carefully tested and worked well.  This week, it came to my attention that these SWFs are now displaying strangely under a variety of browsers and Flash Player versions (latest version tested was FP 9).
Symptoms of the problem include, as far as I can tell from just looking at the SWF, dynamic visibility not being respected and transparent objects losing their transparency.  Hence, objects that are supposed to be hidden behind other objects, or objects that are not supposed to display, are doing the opposite.
The SWFs worked exactly as designed from last September up until this month, at some point.  Has anyone else noticed anything like this?
I'm still trying to work out how I should go about root-causing this issue.

    Hi,
I have this sort of issue not with swf but With XLF  i have lost Complete Data in my XLF .The data tabs that were used to map the components were completly lost.So i always mantain backups at multiple locations which saved Me.
My suggestion would be here is Generate a new swf which was wokrking propelry last time.I think this will be fine..But the Symptons you are talking about it Quite strange and needs to look at it...
Can really understand what would be the reason for this.

  • Qosmio F50 very dim display issue

    Hi everyone
Recently my Qosmio F50-10z has started suffering a very weird problem. Often the screen goes absolutely dim. I can see a very very faint image if I concentrate very hard. External monitors when connected stay well lit and bright. The most weird bit is that when this happens I have to literally slam the lid shut and open the lid immediately to make the screen light up again.
I know it is either the inverter or the screen cable. My question is how do I find out whether it is the VGA cable or the inverter and where do I buy the part from!
    Please help!
    Thanks!

    > Often the screen goes absolutely dim. I can see a very very faint image if I concentrate very hard. External monitors when connected stay well lit and bright.
    > My question is how do I find out whether it is the VGA cable or the inverter and where do I buy the part from!
In my opinion its an FL inverter issue since the picture on the external monitor is ok.
The FL inverter controls the display backlight and the issue sounds like FL inverter malfunction.
You can purchase and order all compatible parts from an local ASP.
The authorized service partner would be helpful and could also replace the part.
I would recommend this because notebook disassembling is very tricky.

  • Strange display issue

I updated to Leopard 10.5.6 two weeks ago from Tiger 10.4.12. Almost immediately, I started seeing horizontal lines on my screen, especially in Safari. I hoped updating to 10.5.7 would fix this. It doesn't happen nearly as often, but it still happens.
I also was having the freeze up problem mentioned in another thread. I repaired permissions and haven't had a screen freeze since, but now have a whole new problem. I'm noticing sometimes when I'm watching videos and occasionally even when I'm just scrolling down my browser, for literally a second or less I'll see something that looks like a tear in my screen, like the screen literally developed a rip in it and peeled apart. It's not a continuous or predictable problem, just a nuisance--especially considering none of these things happened when I was running Tiger.
The graphics engine in this Mac is an ATI Radeon X1600. Are there updated drivers I need to download to stop these things from happening? Or is there something else I'm missing? I've run Disk Utility on my hard drive and it shows no issues.

Go to the Apple menu, and select About This Mac. Go to More Info. In the right of the view, you should see your serial number. Google "Mac Serial Number Identification" or something along those lines. (You could also try Googling "Mac Serial Number" and then your specific serial number). Check out your system. I recall that there was a batch of Core Duo iMacs with bad displays with about the same hardware as you claim.
Anyway, here's something to try (you'll have to be really vigilant):
Taking a screenshot involves pressing the Command-Shift-3 key for full screen, and Command-Shift-4 to select a specific area. The next time you get a tear or lines, (especially the tear), hit the Command-Shift-3 combo immediately. Assuming that you actually hit it and a screenshot was grabbed while the tear was still there, go to your Desktop. The screenshot will be called Picture <some number or other>.png. Look at the image. Do you see the tear? If you see it in the image, it is probably a software error, as the screenshot is capturing the "wrong" image that your graphics card is sending to your display. If you do not see the tear, chances are it is because it is a problem with your display malfunctioning, or the hardware not "knowing" what it is "sending" to your display.
Actually, there is a chance that the reverse is true, but for the most part (>80%) of the time, the above is true. If someone wishes to correct that, feel free.

  • Mac Pro 2009. Strange Display issue.

I have a very weird problem. After having problems setting up a dual screen setup between my Dell 2707 monitor and a Mitsubishi HC3800, I got the following setup working: Dell hooked up via MDP output with adapter to DVI and Mitsubishi hooked up via DVI output to HDMI.
Signal to dell started having problems, screen would go black for a few seconds and come back. Projector worked OK.
Tried switching Dell to the DVI port and I couldnt make it work(It DID work before I set up the dual screen setup). Tried to go back to MDP port and it wouldnt work either! right now I am using the dell thru the DVI using a DVI to VGA adapter and it works ok(some noise maybe the cable)
Current situation: Projector works perfectly out of the DVI port. Does NOT work thru the MDP.
Dell monitor ONLY works out of the DVI port if using VGA adapter and cable. Cannot get a DVI signal to be recognized.
tested monitor with other computer and recognizes its DVI signal perfectly.
    Switched DVI cables.
Going crazy trying things out, to no avail
    help!

Mini DisplayPort is not just a different kind of DVI. It is a completely different protocol. You can ask Mini DisplayPort to assert signals SIMILAR TO Single-Link DVI by using an adapter that asserts a signal back toward the computer Interface requesting "DVI-like" output.
If it works that way with a modest adapter such as the Apple Single-Link DVI adapter, consider yourself lucky. All Others will need an ACTIVE POWERED adapter.
If your needs are modest (screen width under 1920 wide) you may be able to get by with a third party ACTIVE single-Link adapter, (current leader is about US$40 on Amazon). Otherwise, the Apple Dual Link adapter (with USB cable to get even more power) or similarly-priced third party adapter may be required.
In my opinion, the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Single-Link DVI adapter should be withdrawn from the market as inadequate.

  • No sound on my Qosmio G50-10h

    Hi,
Every now and again the sound disappears from my laptop.
Sometimes it's all the sounds / beeps, other times I can hear the beeps when I press the buttons at the top of the keyboard (Dolby, Media Center etc).
I've downloaded the sound driver for the machine (realtek hd audio), sometimes it fixes it, but most times it doesn't.
When all the sounds disappear and I click the 'Dolby' button at the top of the keyboard I receive the following error "No audio end points".
I've looked in device manager when there is no sound, but nothing irregular appears.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks
    James

I have the same problem with my X305-Q705.
I had some problems with sound skipping, and decided to go to the Toshiba website and install sound drivers.
After I installed Microsoft HD Audio drivers from the Toshiba website, Dolby no longer works.
I cannot start it from Start>Programs>Dolby or from the Hotbar touchbuttons on the keyboard.
Also, I realized the built in Webcam is still installed, but the MIC is not registering as a Recording device anymore.
The error given is "No valid audio endpoints found" with the Dolby icon on the taskbar.
Hopefully someone can find a fix soon. :)

  • Multi User Calendar Display Issue

When we moved to GW2012 one of our departments that uses a Multi User calendar (5 users in total) noticed some strange display issues.
When User1 is looking at her Multi User Calendar, the client is displaying her appointments in User2's column as well. But if you look at User2's Multi User calendar, you don't see any of User1's appointments in User2's column, so it appears to be a display issue with User1. This same issue is happening with one other user.
All users are on Client 12.0.2, Build 108211 . Interestingly if we look at the calendar on a machine running the GW8 client this display issue does not occur. I have also gone as far as rebuilding the calendar from scratch but this hasn't changed anything.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Steve

    Hi
If you open a Service Request with Novell Technical Services you will receive this Field Test File patch for the GroupWise 2012 Client. It is specifically to fix issues with multi-user calenders. Please let us know if you are in a position to open an SR.
    Many thanks.

  • EMac Still Humming Along - Display Issues Though ... Any Help?

I have a strange display issue to run by the forum here:
Obviously my 2002 eMac is going to be suffering some display issues
with the age the Mac is and all ... but besides the slightly "softer" screen focus
(due to aging tube), I only have one other constant issue with the display.
I know the brightness and contrast are not what they used to be when the eMac
was newer, but here is the issue I am having. At least once a day now (after a few hours
of use), I seem to be constantly adjusting the "brightness" and "contrast" setting to get the
screen to a very usable brighter white field color. Normally now, the screen will get kind
of "dim gray" and less "contrast white" ... without any brightness or contrast range left for
me to adjust (the brightness and contrast settings in the system preferences/display pane
    are usually maxed out).
To kind of fix this, what I've noticed lately, is that if I open the system preferences pane
and go to the "display" settings, lower both brightness and contrast down to the lowest settings,
then close out of system preferences .... then open system preferences again, and adjust the brightness and contrast up to slightly higher than the normal middle settings .... the screen brightness and contast are better and I have more "adjustment range.
Here's my question: What would be making the "brightness" and "contrast" settings come back to
a more "normal state" by performing the above sequence? I once thought the screen display was
getting older and as a result, dimming normally. But now I am thinking that it may be more of a "software" issue that isn't keeping the brightness or contrast settings in hold.
I pretty much perform all the basic maintenance procedures on a regular basis (ie: Permissions,
repair, disc repair/check, DiscWarrior directory repair/check, etc.), so am I missing anything
    important here?
Any thoughts or ideas what is happening here, or how to make the "brightness" and "contrast"
    hold their settings longer?
    Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks

One other thing to look at is the setting in System Preferences, Universal Access, *Enhance Contrast* slider to make sure it is set to normal before you make the adjustment in Display.
Have you ever tried calibrating your screen? It can also be done under Display?
Generally an increasingly darker display is hardware related caused by heat, as well as the aging of the tube as you have indicated.
I used to like cleaning out the dust from the interior of the eMac periodically using a large soft artist's brush to dust and a running vacuum cleaner to suck up the dust as it flew. Most dust accumulates on the fan blades and it always seemed to run quieter afterwards, though 'quieter' is a relative term on an eMac.
The only tricky bit to this operation is the micro plug that connects to the power button. It is very small and fiddly to reattach.
Only consider the above course of action if your are naturally happy with opening electrical equipment and realize it must be completely disconnected from any power outlet before you even start. Otherwise don't do it if you feel unsure.
Your problem is unusual in your saying that it appears to be software related, from opening and closing your Sys. Prefs dialogue. It makes me wonder if anything is corrupting that file, and the settings it contains? It is peculiar.
I wonder if deleting that particular file would help. With System Preferences closed, in Finder locate,
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
and drag it to the trash.
It will be recreated next time your open Sys. Prefs.
I doubt if that will be the fix, but you might as well try it. As an experiment, instead of doing your described technique, instead try trashing that .plist and see if it achieves the same.
Lastly when was the last time you replaced your PRAM battery? It is a cheap thing to do, and I mention it only because the PRAM chip does control some video settings and removing a possible aberrant voltage from the equation is a one more thing you can do.

  • Qosmio G50-129 PQG55E - 64Bit Windows 7 Upgraded - How To Update BIOS?

    Hello,
I have a Qosmio G50 that I have upgraded to Windows 7 64bit. My BIOS is unupdated from 6 months ago when I bought the machine.
I went to update the BIOS just to keep things up to date, so I went through the online driver wizard:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
And with all the above information inputted, it provides:
    http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/bios-20090312131718.zip
After unzipping and running P0060v210.exe, it extracts and then says:
" [Error] BIOS Update is not supported OS. Unsupported OS or service pack is installed. " (Word up to all my Googling friends!) "
Does Toshiba have a BIOS update for the Qosmio G50 that is supported on Windows 7? Specifically 64bit? They should fix this glitch that directs you to download this file when it clearly isn't supported by Windows 7.
Also, I tried to run it in compatibility mode with Windows XP SP2 and it ran fine -- but I was nervous about going through with the update if it originally doesn't support Windows 7, so I don't continue at the next prompt. Is it safe to do this? Has anyone else in this situation done it without issues? I've read that BIOS updates can go horribly wrong if not careful, so I'm hesitant to update the BIOS by running the updater in compatibility mode when it doesnt support Windows 7 on its own!
Thanks in advance for any assistance and Merry Xmas.

    Hi All,
Sorry ,my English is not perfect.I have a Toshiba Qosmio G50-12K.The solution is go to the US Toshiba website. Here is the link:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=2140527& rpn=PQG55U&modelFilter=G55-Q805&selCategory=3&selFamily=804517
There are all of the BIOS what is available. The 2.1 BIOS exactly the same as on the European website just they used a zip file. If you guys open it you will find the same .exe file, the file size is the same, but don't use this one, instead of it you can find there an ISO file. Write a CD with this one, turn off the computer and boot from the CD, use the F12 button. This is a safety way update the BIOS. But I use the 2.3, this is newest one, for me this one is works much better, because the display is more bright. I hope this is a big help for you and you understand my English! :)

  • How to connect video-in cable with Qosmio G50?

    Hi
I bought the Qosmio G50-11S, and received a video in cable with it. (Red/White/Yellow RCA jack to mini jack) But I cannot find any way of connecting it to my notebook, not the manual nor any online resources talks about it. The issue is I need to capture video from my video recorder to my notebook and the normal TV antenna comes with a lot of noise, so I which to utilize the video in cable. Any ideas?
    Thanks
    M

    Hello
In the past Ive made some experiments with it. I wanted to create DVDs copying the material from old VHS recorder. Do you want to use the same recorder? Ive done this on Qosmio G30 but the principle is the same.
The fact is that you must send the signal to the notebook and for this you must use video-in port.
I don't see your Qosmio has several of them so I think only way to send signal into your notebook is to use antenna-in port. Which video-out port you want to use on your recorder?
