RAC-Performance degarding with all nodes

Hi,
I have a RAC with 2 nodes.With individual nodes the performance is good and same.But when with 2 nodes together,the performance is degrading from one of the nodes with gc buffer busy as the topmost event.Kindly throw some light on this.

Hi;
Please see below:
RAC gc buffer busy waits !!

    How increase sga_max_size, sga_target in ORACLE RAC 10 G WITH 2 NODES;
    i have oracle 10g in unix hp-ux 11i in rac (2 nodes)
    with sga 8g; and i want to increase 12g;
    i can alter these parameters without shutdown the entire database ?; , i can alter and take these change in one node first and later de second node?
    i used in first node :
    1- alter system set sga_max_size=16g scope spfile;
    2- alter system set sga_targer=12g cope spfile;
    later i restard all intance one by one:
    srcvtl stop instance -d my_database -i my_instance1 -o immediate;
    srcvtl start instance -d my_database -i my_instance1
    3- in second node.
    srcvtl stop instance -d my_database -i my_instance2 -o immediate;
    srcvtl start instance -d my_database -i my_instance2
    but my sga is the SAME 8G.. WHY NOT CHANGE...
    i changed these parameters and restar my instance in first node later stop and start using srvctl the second node but my sga not change. continue in 8g ;however these changes are in spfile so;
    prd2.sga_max_size=8589934592#internally adjusted

    how i can apply these change node by node or i need shutdown the entire database?
    need to make these changes without affecting my application because i can not shutdown the both node...

    Hi,
    I just checked on a test RAC configuration (HP-UX, 10.2.0.4)
    You don't need to stop the database.
    Keep your "rolling" original scenario but change :
    alter system set sga_max_size=16g scope spfile;
    alter system set sga_target=12g cope spfile;by
    alter system set sga_max_size=16g scope spfile sid = 'PRD1';
    alter system set sga_target=12g scope spfile sid = 'PRD1';
    alter system set sga_max_size=16g scope spfile sid = 'PRD2';
    alter system set sga_target=12g cope spfile sid = 'PRD2';Actually
    alter system set sga_max_size=16g scope spfile;
    alter system set sga_max_size=16g scope spfile SID='*';changes globally the values for every instance in the spfile ("*.XXXXXX" is updated) but it does not remove the specific entries already assigned to one particular instance (and it is your case !)
    Alternatively you could reset the values assigned specifically to one instance with "alter system reset" to have only "*.XXXX" for those parameters.
    Best regards

  • Performance penalty with property nodes?

    In a specific application I have a front panel with three combo boxes and another three string indicators. Based on the selections made in the combo boxes, various messages will have to be displayed in the string displays. This naturally calls for multiple instances in the same VI where the combo boxes will have to be read and string display updates.
    One choice would have been local variables ( of combo boxes & string indicators ) for passing the values around. But since this is going to make several copies and hit performance, I decided to use property nodes. And it works fine.
    The question is, whether excessive use of property nodes has any adverse effect on performance ?

    Thanks! I would suggest to just do the experiment.
    The attached little demo (LabVIEW 7.1) does the same thing (increment a I32 variable in a loop) in three different ways:
    -- shift register
    -- local variable
    -- value properties
    On my slow laptop, 10000 iterations take the following total time in ms.
    shift registers: 3ms
    Local variables: 5ms
    Value Properties: 1891ms (!!)
    Notice that the shift register solution would be much faster (more than 10x (or 1000000 in 20ms)) if the indicator is placed outside the loop, the only thing slowing it down is the update of the indicator.
    In conclusion value properties are much more expensive than local variables or shift registers. If you just write once e.g. at the beginning of the program, it does not really matter, but once you do things repetitively in a loop, the costs add up. I always prefer wires because they also make the diagram easy to follow. Local variables break the dataflow and can cause race conditions. They have their limited use, especially in user interface related code. They have no business in pure computations.

  • RAC and ASM with geographically seperated disks

    We are planning to use RAC and ASM with four nodes. The two nodes will be at one location and another two nodes at different location. The ASM disks also will be available locally. Is it possible to configure ASM with geographycally serepared disks.
    We are thinking of two RAC and ASM setups with two nodes each and streams replication between the RACs.
    I want to know what is the best method to implement. Is it RAC with four nodes OR two RACs with two nodes each and streams replication between the RACs.

    Apart from the latency issue, which has been mentioned by others, you also need to mirror your disks between the two sites and be very careful about split brain scenarios under node or site crashes.
    You need to mirror the disks between the sites in case one site crashes completely and loses all network access. The only way the second site can carry on is if it has access to all the data disks, and the cluster control disks (terms vary for this, such as quorum or voting disk). If you do not mirror you simply do not have a resilient design. Resilience is about eliminating all single points of failures, which means duplicating everything i.e. mirroring.
    And mirroring between two remote sites adds more volume to the data traffic between the two sites. And it would need to be synchronous rather than asynchronous to guarantee no data loss. And your commits for each transaction would be limited by the round trip time to write to the remote site and get the acknowledgement back.
    Split brain is something you need to avoid with remote clusters, and local clusters too. If the network goes down between the two sites and both sites have local copies of all of the data and cluster control disks, which site becomes the primary and which one becomes the standby? You cannot have both sites coming back up as primary with active databases and accepting transactions! At this point you have split brain, and each side is processing transactions independently, and both databases are now deviating from each other with different data changes.
    I don't think a 4 node RAC environment split across geographical distances is really viable, except under small transaction volumes, and where response time (transaction time) is not critical. If you have high volumes and need fast transactions then you need to only use local RAC configurations, and replicate between the two sites asynchronously. DataGuard is easier, but you need to decide if you need Streams and how to make it work for you.

  • 11gr2 rac installation on vmware runinstaller not able to visible all nodes

    Hello,
    Recently I have installed two nodes 11gr2 rac on vmware workstation 6 with OEL 5.4. CRS installation work fine. But after that when I do olsnodes, it's shows only one node. Also, when I try to install oracle database binary, in node selection tab, it's shows only respective nodes and not shows all nodes.

    Installation of 11gr2 Grid was successfull or not?
    Try to check the status of High Availability service daemon by typing the following command:
    ./crsctl check cluster. (on all nodes)
    The output should look like this:
    CRS-4537: Cluster Ready Services is online
    CRS-4529: Cluster Synchronization Services is online
    CRS-4533: Event Manager is online

  • CRS & RAC  with 3 node

    Hi EveryBody,
    I am planing to install the Rac in my home, i mentioned the following information below.
    i am using 3 system with windows 2000 server, i wan to install the oracle 10gR1 RAC.
    my question is, for all nodes they need to install the CRS software ???? or one system is enough, and the same time what about the rac software, its enogh to install in one node or install in all node????
    senthil

    All nodes will will connected to each other with private IPs.......and you just need to install Clussterware and RAC from one node and add those nodes in your installtion. Oracle will install everything on its own on other nodes.
    Hope this helps

  • Performance Problems with "For all Entries" and a big internal table

    We have big Performance Problems with following Statement:
    SELECT * FROM zeedmt_zmon INTO TABLE gt_zmon_help
      FOR ALL ENTRIES IN gt_zmon_help
        WHERE
        status = 'IAI200' AND

        ztrack = gt_zmon_help-ztrack.
    In the internal table gt_zmon_help are over 1000000 entries.
    Anyone an Idea how to improve the Performance?

    You can't expect miracles.  With over a million entries in your itab any select is going to take a bit of time. Do you really need all these records in the itab?  How many records is the select bringing back?  I'm assuming that you have got and are using indexes on your ZEEDMT_ZMON table.
    In this situation, I'd first of all try to think of another way of running the query and restricting the amount of data, but if this were not possible I'd just run it in the background and accept that it is going to take a long time.

    we are on R12.0.6 with 2 node 10g RAC. Our collegue did the RAC setup, I was not there at that moment
    steps he followed is
    1. Installed 10g CRS,ASM 10.2.0.3 software and bring up the two nodes.
    2. Configured the RAC DB to Oracle Appplication and registered the Listener with CRS.

  • Search with "Current Node + All Subfolders" not functioning correctly

    Hi,
    We are having an issue with the search function of SCCM 2012 Admin Console. We have built multi-level folder structure to SCCM which matches our organizational unit structure in AD.
    The issue occurs when trying to search with "Current Node + All Subfolders" option in a folder to get listing of all collections nested in the structure. As a result we get incomplete list of collections and majority of them are not showing
    up. Sometimes the console even crashes when trying to do this kind of search. Note that this behaviour only occurs when searching inside a folder, not in the device collections root node.
    We managed to trace the SQL query in the above situation from SMSProv.log, and it is as follows:
    select  all SMS_Collection.SiteID,SMS_Collection.CollectionType,SMS_Collection.CollectionVariablesCount,SMS_Collection.CollectionComment,SMS_Collection.CurrentStatus,SMS_Collection.HasProvisionedMember,SMS_Collection.IncludeExcludeCollectionsCount,SMS_Collection.IsBuiltIn,SMS_Collection.IsReferenceCollection,SMS_Collection.LastChangeTime,SMS_Collection.LastMemberChangeTime,SMS_Collection.LastRefreshTime,SMS_Collection.LimitToCollectionID,SMS_Collection.LimitToCollectionName,SMS_Collection.LocalMemberCount,SMS_Collection.ResultClassName,SMS_Collection.MemberCount,SMS_Collection.MonitoringFlags,SMS_Collection.CollectionName,SMS_Collection.PowerConfigsCount,SMS_Collection.RefreshType,SMS_Collection.ServiceWindowsCount from vCollections AS SMS_Collection  where (SMS_Collection.SiteID
    in (select  all Folder##Alias##810314.InstanceKey from vFolderMembers AS Folder##Alias##810314
    where (Folder##Alias##810314.ObjectTypeName = N'SMS_Collection_Device'
    AND Folder##Alias##810314.ContainerNodeID in
    (16777237,16777374,16777384,16777385,16777375,16777376,16777377,16777378)))
    AND SMS_Collection.CollectionType = 2) order by SMS_Collection.CollectionName
    From this we noticed that not all ContainerNodeIDs are searched, but a list of only 8 ContainerNodeIDs. These ContainerNodeIDs remain the same if the search is done again in the same folder. The same behaviour repeats also in other folders with a different
    list of ContainerNodeIDs.
    For clarification I'll attach a picture which shows our folder structure with ContainerNodeIDs and ParentContainerIDs. We have also marked the containers which were present in SQL statement. From this you can clearly see there should have been far more ContainerNodeIDs
    than listed in the SQL query. Is this a bug in the admin console or could this be a problem with our site database? Is anyone else experiencing similar issues? We have written a custom
    powershell script that reads containers from SMS_ObjectContainerNode WMI-class recursively and is able to return complete list of folders and their subfolders, so we assume that our site database and WMI on site server is functioning correctly.
    We noticed this on CU2 (could have been present also earlier) and updating to CU3 did not fix the problem. Currently we are running SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3 with one primary site. All components besides distribution point is running on the site server. Distrubution
    point is running on a separate server. Our SQL server is running on the site server.
    Best Regards,
    Juha-Matti

    Sorry for the very long delay. I created the ticket in the autumn of last year and just received the final verdict to this issue.
    Microsoft support said they were able to reproduce the problem and that they contacted the product group about this issue. It turns out that this behaviour is by design (wait, what?) and since it is by design there is nothing they
    can/will do about it.
    So the only choice is to request a tailored customization for SCCM2012, which probably in this case (as it is by design) would cost.
    I feel a bit puzzled: how can it be by design if it clearly does not work?

  • I must install and setup TDPO on all nodes RAC?

    Hi, everyone
    I have oracle rac 9i four nodes and filesystem archivelogs per hosts. without NFS.
    my question is. Is necesary to backup de archivelogs install and setup TDPO on each node? and by the way. The node_name is tdpo.config it must be the same on all nodes rac.?
    Many Thanks.

  • 2 Node RAC with Single Node Standby Help

    Hello Everyone -
    I'm preparing to set up a 2 node RAC and use a single-node standby database.
    I'm a bit confused on how to set up the Standby Redo Logs on the standby to use the LGWR functionality from the RAC instances.
    Should I just create a set of standby redo logs (alter database add standby logfile...) like on a single-instance environment or do I need to create standby logfile threads (alter database add standby logfile thread. . . ) one for each cooresponding thread on the RAC?
    It just seems odd that 2 RAC redo threads are able to write to one standby redo logfile at the same time (or maybe each RAC redo thread picks the first available standby redo log and writes to it??)
    If anyone has some advice or insight, I'd appreciate it.
    Andy

    Hello Andy,
    Did you get answer to your question about RAC with single standby?
    Could you please share with me your experience if you have done so.
    Thanks

  • Oracle RAC performance

    Hello all,
    I have a 3 node oracle RAC. Each server has 2 intel quad core processors. I was asked to extend the RAC to 5 nodes to increase the processing power. I was told that Intel 6 core processors are in the market. So I was looking at the following options and need your input/expertise or suggestions on the following options.
    Option 1: Add 2 more nodes with 2 quad core processors to the existing 3 node RAC. so total cores available to process the load will be 40 cores.
    Option 2: completely replace all the above 5 nodes(in option 1) with 4 nodes - each with 2 * 6 core processors. total cores available are 48 core.
    option 2 will give have 1 less server to maintain.
    will the performance on option 2 be better than option 1? Any there any white papers or documentation to help me take a decision as to which option i should go?
    Thanks in advance.

    hi
    I would also first try to tune the database. However it demands some professional skills. There are many areas of tuning.
    For example, if your storage subsystem runs slowly (often a bottleneck), then you will not benefit from and node's scaling!
    Upgrading hardware is the last thing to do, as it is costly.
    If you have a budget, then run for it, buy new "toys", why not, but make sure you hit the performance issue lest you spent money with no improvement...brr
    So start with storage, if disks are old e.g. 10k RPM replace them with new 15k RPM, or SSD even.
    Run AWR, see "Top 5 events", find the slowest subsystem, if this is I/O then invest in disks, if CPU then CPU, etc.
    Replacing old hardware (scale-up) have this benefit, that you don't have to buy all components and install all software from the scratch (OS, add nodes).
    Also, however it is not forbidden, but it's been said by Oracle, nodes should have similar performance.
    Next thing is that adding more than 3 nodes to the RAC cluster , probably will not improve the overall performance in a linear way, and is more expensive.
    My suggestion is to scale-up after inspecting and finding the bottleneck of the cluster performance.
    Hope this helps,

  • MULTIPLE USERS 10G RAC ORACLE_HOME INSTALL WITH ASM/CRS

    Hi,
    We need to install multiple 10g RAC databases on a two node Sun servers. Below is our configuration:
    1) Sun Solaris (ver 10) with Sun Cluster 3.2
    2) One ASM/CRS install (by 1 OS account)
    3) Four ORACLE_HOME 10g database install (by 4 different OS user accounts)
    We would like to use one ASM instance for all four databases with appropriate privileges.
    OS User:           OS Group
    ========      =========
    oraasm           dbaasm - (ASM and CRS install owner)
    ora1           dbaora1 - first db owner
    ora2           dbaora2 - second db owner
    ora3           dbaora3 - third db owner
    ora4           dbaora4 - fourth db owner
    I understand that certain privileges need to be shared between ASM/CRS and DB owners. Please let me know the steps to be followed to complete this install.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
    Please read that: Documentation http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B10766_08/intro.htm
    - You can install and operate multiple Oracle homes and different versions of Oracle cluster database software on the same computer as described in the following points:
    -You can install multiple Oracle Database 10g RAC homes on the same node. The multiple homes feature enables you to install one or more releases on the same machine in multiple Oracle home directories. However, each node can have only one CRS home.
    -In addition, you cannot install Oracle Database 10g RAC into an existing single-instance Oracle home. If you have an Oracle home for Oracle Database 10g, then use a different Oracle home, and one that is available across the entire cluster for your new installation. Similarly, if you have an Oracle home for an earlier Oracle cluster database software release, then you must also use a different home for the new installation.
    If the OUI detects an earlier version of a database, then the OUI asks you about your upgrade preferences. You have the option to upgrade one of the previous-version databases with DBUA or to create a new database using DBCA. The information collected during this dialog is passed to DBUA or DBCA after the software is installed.
    - You can use the OUI to complete some of the de-install and re-install steps for Oracle Database 10g Real Application Clusters if needed.
    Note:
    Do not move Oracle binaries from one Oracle home to another because this causes dynamic link failures.
    . If you are using ASM with Oracle database instances from multiple database homes on the same node, then Oracle recommends that you run the ASM instance from an Oracle home that is distinct from the database homes. In addition, the ASM home should be installed on every cluster node. This prevents the accidental removal of ASM instances that are in use by databases from other homes during the de-installation of a database's Oracle home.

  • Performance issues with version enable partitioned tables?

    I’ve been doing some performance testes with a large version enable partitioned table and it seems that OCB optimiser is choosing very expensive plans during merge operations.

    Hello Vitor,
    There are currently no known issues with version enabled tables that are partitioned. The merge operation may need to access all of the partitions of a table depending on the data that needs to be moved/copied from the child to the parent. This is the reason for the 'Partition Range All' step in the plan that you provided. The majority of the remaining steps are due to the hints that have been added, since this plan has provided the best performance for us in the past for this particular statement. If this is not the case for you, and you feel that another plan would yield better performance, then please let me know and I will take a look at it.
    One suggestion would be to make sure that the table was been recently analyzed so that the optimizer has the most current data about the table.
    Performance issues are very hard to fix without a reproducible test case, so it may be advisable to file a TAR if you continue to have significant performance issues with the mergeWorkspace operation.
    Thank You,
    Ben
