Re: Japanese input method editor (ime)

Hi. for about a week now my Japanese ime in outlook 2007 student version hangs when i try and convert to kanji from hiragana (Japanese to Chinese characters). It does eventually unfreeze but only after some minutes. Because the IME is built into language settings in windows 7 64 bit (on a satellite) it won't let me uninstall and re-install. I have tried removing and re-adding Japanese keyboards/IME but that doesn`t work either.
I assume that it has gone wrong because i installed and then uninstalled some other Japanese software so the converter now starts off by looking in the wrong place for the character. I have tried to repair outlook but that doesn`t work either. Any thoughts welcome.
Thanks
Gary

Possibly some software which you installed make some troubles now
Maybe you could set the OS back to early time point before you installed the additional software.
You can set the OS to early time point at following way:
*Start > All Programs -> Accessories -> system tools -> system restore*

  • How to install Japanese input method on my 8820

Hi everyone.I just bought an 8820 and I wanna install the Japanese input modules on it.
However, after installing the 4.5 East Asian version of the ROM, there's no Japanese input selection.
is it possible that the 8820 could install the Japanese input modules?

    1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.
Now, with loader.exe running, do you see the additional options for the launguages?

  • [SOLVED] Japanese Input using IBus/Mozc

    Good day,
Recently, I finally managed to install Arch (phew!)
As the title suggests, I need to frequently use Japanese Input. I've tried Anthy, however, the prediction is bad and the dictionaries are lacking.
Then I've found mozc (successfully utilized on Mint and Manjaro before) along with IBus , which worked really great!
Running mozc successfully on Arch has been a series of unsuccessful attempts so far. I have browsed tons of pages about people having similar problems, none of the given solutions seem to work for me.
This is what I've done so far:
    1. After installation of Arch, I installed Cinnamon and GDM.
    2. I've followed IBus installation page. Installed ibus + ibus-qt packages, then installed mozc through yaourt.
    3. Put the lines below to ~/.xprofile (Note: .xprofile didn't exist in the first place, so I created it).
    export GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus
    export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus
    export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus
    ibus-daemon -drx
    and in ~/.bashrc
    ibus-daemon -drx
    5. Ran qtconfig-qt4, under the "Interface" tab, set ibus as default.
    6. In /usr/bin/skype, I put the line below.
    export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus
    7. Installed a set of Japanese fonts.
    8. Finally, added the Japanese input -> mozc to my IBus input methods.
At this point, Japanese input is supposed to work after a relog. I decided to reboot, though, just for safety.
Yes, IBus did autostart. The tray icon would soon disappear for no reason. After restarting Cinnamon, it would magically re-appear and work with inputs like English/Polish properly. Japanese, too, albeit, not with the desired results.
First of all, the typed text in Japanese will not appear unless I press enter in applications like Firefox, Leafpad, LibreOffice. That is not the desired behavior of a Japanese Input Method Editor. Back on Mint/Manjaro the text would appear instantly, that's how it's supposed to behave.
I use Skype extensively, and the Japanese input doesn't seem to work there at all, even after putting the export line into /usr/bin/skype.
I was hoping somebody here would be able to help me. Thank you in advance!

    Hello,
I went with the suggestion of using fcitx instead of IBus. I once again decided to follow the fcitx Arch Wiki thoroughly. Here's what I've done:
I've installed fcitx-im and fcitx-mozc packages. Before that, I completely removed IBus.
I put this in my ~/.xprofile and ~/.profile
    export GTK_IM_MODULE=fcitx
    export QT_IM_MODULE=fcitx
    export XMODIFIERS="@im=fcitx"
After that, I configured my fcitx, and added mozc as my layout for Japanese.
Ran this command, too since Gnome apparently tries its best to break other IMEs.
$ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.keyboard active false
Fcitx seemed much, much better than IBus. It's faster and more responsive, however, the Skype lament still persisted, so I decided to test out one more thing, which has caught my eye whenever I ran an application through the console. The error message was saying something about 'falling back to the "C" locale', so I went way back to the "locale" Arch Wiki article, only to find out, that inside my /etc/locale.gen, I had only one US locale. On top of that, the US locale in locale.gen was different than the US locale in /etc/locale.conf.
    A silly, yet, overlooked mistake.
After uncommenting my locale, generating a new one and rebooting my system, Skype finally came back to life, and I was able to type Japanese inside its text field.
Thank you again for your input! This case is solved.

  • Handling Japanese Input in an Applet on Windows

    Hey there,
We're working on a Java applet that needs to be able to handle Japanese input. The input methods on the Mac work just fine. On Windows (Win2k, specifically) it seems to fall appart. We've been using the Windows standard Japanese input method (IME-2000) and we've run tests using both the IE native JVM and the Java Plugin (1.4.0). In the native JVM we just get a ? on input and the value of the key character is 0. In the Plugin all we get are empty boxes. I'm not sure what the value of the key character is in the plugin as I haven't been able to trap a key-press event.
Interestingly, you can copy a Japanese character from another program (Word, for example) and paste that character into the native JVM. Even the copy and paste method didn't work in the Java Plugin.
It seems unlikely that this is a font issue. We can display Japanese characters (input from a Mac) in both the native IE VM and the Java Plugin (assuming the correct font is selected). We simply cannot accept input.
We're currently compling to the 1.1.7 spec using WebGain VisualCafe 4.1. All the interface elements are AWT based.
So, the question is, has anyone else found a fix for this problem?

Not too sure why it is, but someone once suggested that the Microsoft IME doesn't support unicode, and therefore won't produce the correct code for Java.
If you read through the documentation provided by Sun, it also states that the Microsoft IME's don't work.

  • Bootcamp, Windows 7: EN option not showing up in input method selector

    Hi,
I added a Japanese and a German input method on my Bootcamp Windows 7 install.
For some reason only JP (Japanese) and DE (German) are shown as options in the input method selector - but no EN, which should be the default...
In the settings the EN entry is shown however:
      EN English (United States)
        +-+ Keyboard
            + United States (Apple)
      JP Japanese
        +-+ Keyboard
            + Microsoft IME
      German (Germany)
        +-+ Keyboard
            + German (Apple)
When starting up, the German keyboard is activated and there is no way to switch back to the English one.
When adding another English keyboard, US for example, an EN option is shown - but it selects the normal US keyboard and not the "United States (Apple)" one...
Any idea how to solve the problem?
    Thanks, Dietrich

    Hi andrum99,
Could you please explain a bit for the system compression in cleanmgr?
I only seeing the option under the drive properties for Compress this drive to save disk space, and I never heard of the new '' system compression".

  • Japanese Input on a Blackberry in Germany

We got a 8707v working with Romaji input in the UK.  But the same package did not work in Germany or France on devices there.
We are with Vodafone.  We deleted the vendor.xml  before install but still not able to get this working.   Chinese and Korean work fine.
What is it in the Device.xml or CJK.alx files or elsewhere that might make this firmware UK specific or prevent the Romaji methiod from working? All the .cod files referenced in the Romaji method section of the CJK.alx have loaded on the device and I gave them all full permissions.  I choose Japanese input on the device but it does not work.

    Hi,
We use at our firm 8707V and I downloaded the same firmware for Japanese Character Support.
We also have offices across in European town such as Frankfurt and Paris.
We did try number of devices to achive the Japanese Character Support, however none from European 8707 devices works.
What we found is that 8707 model with only QWERTY model works with the firmware but not with any other K/B such one you can obtain in German and France.

  • How to STOP OS X from automatically changing between language input methods

I want to know if there is a way in OS X Leopard to stop the system from automatically changing the language input method. I use English and Japanese on my computer, but this would apply to anyone using more than one input method.
For example, when I click on a Japanese-language file, the system automatically changes input to Kotoeri (the Japanese-language input method). When I then click on an English-language file it usually, but not always, changes back to English input. But I almost never want to TYPE in Japanese. I just need to be able to read Japanese and to cut and paste from Japanese language files. It is very annoying when I start typing in an English-language file and find the input method has been changed to kotoeri without me realizing it—everything comes out in meaningless Japanese. When I want to type in Japanese, I want to manually change to the Japanese input system. That is, I want English to always be the default input method even if I am manipulating Japanese-language files.
So, I’m wondering if there’s a way to set the computer so that it never AUTOMATICALLY switches between the input methods. I want to be able to switch only manually. In the old days of System 7, 8, and 9, there was a third-party control panel you could get that would do this (I think it was called Stay There!) and I don't remember this being a problem in Tiger or earlier versions of OS X. Is anyone aware of any way to do this in Leopard?
    Thank you!
    Colin

Well, I do have it set that way, and I can look up there to see where I am, but in the work I do time is critical and I move back and forth between the two languages frequently. It is really a pain and a waste of time to have to look and make a change that should be unnecessary. The problem is not so much that I don't know where I am. It's that I don't want to ever have to think I MIGHT be in anything but English input unless I specifically want to be. In other words, I need to be able to forget about this problem even being a possibility.

Can anyone help me out of this.
    With Regards,
    Bala M

    Excellent Eitan,
Here is what I am trying to Achieve.
In Create Notification IW21 , They need 5 Long Text in Custom Tab ( Say Tab Name is MBR ).
    TAB1 NOTIFICATION Standard Information , TAB2 REFERENCE OBJ , TAB 3 MalFunction , Breakdown Standard one...... TAB 7 ( Custom Tab ).
In Custom Tab , I added 5 LONG TEXT ( its 5 WHY Concept ).
When the User enters data in 5 Long text , it should store long text along with Notification number when save.
But Notification number will be generated @ the time of SAVE , but before that its just shows as
%0000000001 ( and Number will be generated 1000065479) at Save.
    How to achive this .
    I did this:
Added 5 Custom Container. and In PBO / PAI
      PROCESS BEFORE OUTPUT.
    MODULE STATUS_0100.
    PROCESS AFTER INPUT.
    MODULE USER_COMMAND_0100.
    IN PBO
CREATE OBJECT TEXT_EDITOR1 ,    CREATE OBJECT TEXT_EDITOR2,    CREATE OBJECT TEXT_EDITOR3 like wise 5
CALL METHOD TEXT_EDITOR1->SET_TEXT_AS_R3TABLE ,    CALL METHOD TEXT_EDITOR2->SET_TEXT_AS_R3TABLE .. Like wise 5 , So when the user Click on Custom Tab ( MBR ).
    It give 5 Long text.
When he click tab1 or tab2 or tab3 .. and again tab MBR , still data is available.
How to store this data for future retrival ( IW22 or IW23 ) ?
Its working fine when I enter first time and goes here and there and finall save .
IN SAVE BADI , I imported the Long text and created Standard Text SO10 with Notification Number with LONG1 , LONG2 .. means 1000065479LONG1 as standard text.
But not working when I entered first time and go to tab1 and tab2 and then to MBR tab and added few more lines , its not exporting full lines and in IMPORT ( SAVE BADI ) giving ZERO Lines.
Please help and thanks for your quick response.

  • Should Arch have a common input method ?

Should Arch have a common input method ?
Arch is a really great distro,so I think there are a lots of arch users all over the world.
And I believe that more and more people will know Arch, use Arch,Love to use Arch
But I am curious about that : everyone use english only? Just input English only?
For me I need a input method to input Chinese in gedit,gnome-terminal,openoffice and so on.
I guess some users( in particular for non-English users) also need it for their own language.
So I eager hope Arch will  official have common method support.
And SCIM is a good choice--Smart Common Input Method.
    Old Homepage    http://www.freedesktop.org/Software/scim
    New homepage  http://www.scim-im.org/
    And http://sourceforge.net/projects/scim/
SCIM is the defaults Chinene input moethod in SUSE Mandriva(formerly mandrake),and included in Fedoa's Repo.
Tt also is the defauls input moethod for CJK(Chinese/Korea/Japanese) users,SCIM  supports a large
number of input methods in a bunch of languages, and trying to enumerate all the input method
    engines and their corresponding languages.
scim- scim is the core package, which provides the fundamental routines and data types
skim - An input method based on SCIM library and KDE/QT.
          scim-{anthy,canna,prime,skk,wnn} -  IMEngines for Japanese
scim-chewing - IMEngine for  Tranditional Chinese
scim-pinyin- Currently contains a Smart Pinyin IMEngine for Simplified Chinese.
scim-fcitx - fcitx ported to scim for Chinese
scim-tables - Contains many table based input methods.
scim-uim - A wrapper to use uim as an IMEngine of SCIM.
scim-m17n - A wrapper to use m17n library as an IMEngine of SCIM.
          scim-qtimm - Qt-immodule support for scim.
scim-hangul - A Hangul !IMEngine which is ported from imhangul project.
scim-input-pad - scim-input-pad is an OnScreen input pad for SCIM used to input some symbols very easily

cactus wrote:@dibble: in fact, I would. Then i would set out to make the packages myself so I could use them, or try to form a group of like minded individuals to create a language specific port.
i don't want to start a massive fight about this cactus because you know I respect your views but i wonder how a group of people that require internationalization support can collaborate on a project without a common language?
We can already see that miracle is doing his best to get his point across with varying sucess, i can't imagine trying to achieve many harder things in the internet environment, never mind establishing a project.  Of course this is well within the users power but i really think that in this instance non-enlgish speaking users would greatly benefit from the support of experience Arch Users who have english as first langauge.
miracle - if the PKGs are in the AUR you need to contact other arch users, possibly on the other languages forums, and tell them to vote for the scim pkgs

  • Follow Up Post - Input Methods Win2K

Just a quick note - I discovered that Windows 2000 (English version) does support input methods in Chinese AND it works with Swing. :)
There was some talk of using third-party software like njstar, but I guess it seems to be only needed in NON-Windows 2000 environments.
To activate Chinese Input methods on a pure English Windows 2000 -
Go to Regional Settings - Input Locales
    Add: Input Language: Chinese (PRC)
    with Keyboard/layout: Simplified@Chinese - ZhengMa
Now, your ready to type Chinese in Swing Windows too ...
    I have'nt discovered 2 things yet -
---- Why should the keyboard/layout be set to:
Chinese (PRC) - Simplified Chinese Zhengma?
    Why does'nt
Chinese (PRC) - Chinese (Simplified) US Keyboard work??
Because the fact is I am using a US keyboard.
----- What the encoding of the text generated by Windows 2000 is and how do I read it?
When I go to IME Setting for: Chinese (PRC) - Simplified Chinese Zhengma it pops a Chinese window with GB2312 and GBK ... are these encoding methods? I thought Win2000 used only Unicode?
Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks Martin for some of your previous posts - they were helpful.
    TIA,
    Carlos

    Hi Carlos,
Correct, NJStar is extremely useful if you aren't in Windows 2000.
I'm pretty sure Win2K's support of Unicode is bog standard at best. It certainly isn't up to Java's standard where everything being stored internally is in Unicode. As far as I'm aware that statement of MS's only covers flat files and databases at this point in time, and will take another two OS releases before it occurs across the board as it does in Java. But don't quote me on that! :)
GB2312 is a Chinese encoding. Java will be able to read in this form of encoding, and then convert it to Unicode once it's being stored internally. Hope that doesn't sound too confusing! The important point here is that GB and Unicode are two entirely separate encodings. You may need to convert between the two in places, especially if you're dealing with HTML and/or JSP.
As for the keyboard, no idea. I can only assume that:
    1) The US version is laid out differently
    2) There's a bug in the JDK for this keyboard layout
    3) It refers to a keyboard that lets Chinese people type in English characters (though I'd doubt it!)
    Hope that helps!

  • Japanese input Kotoeri Maverick Register Word menu not visible

    Hi,
I would like to add words to Kotoeri japanese dictionnary, but the menu Flag/Register word is not visible, I tried alt but on succès
    Any idea?
    Best regards

Ok So I asked on the Japanese Fourms and this is the answer I got back. To be honest I had tried this on my work computer before and it did not work but it is working on my home computer so maybe this will help you.
    Mavericks (OS 10.9)ではことえりのユーザ辞書の仕様が変わりました。
The way you do this action has changed with the change to Maveriks.
    1)まず、ことえり入力メソッドを追加する必要があります。
Make sure that you have added the Kotoeri Method (I think you have)
→ Add the Kotoeri input method
    2)既に追加済みであれば、こちらのヘルプをご確認下さい。
Next use the below link to help you add words to your dictionary.
→ Add words and symbols to a user dictionary
Pretty much you add things to your dictionary like you would add shortcut word like (R) becomes ®.
    1. While using Kotoeri, choose Edit Text Substitutions from the Input menu (looks like a flag or character) in the menu bar.
    2. In the text pane of Keyboard preferences, click Add to add a word.
    3. Type the hiragana reading of the word in the Replace field. Readings of registered words can be no longer than 32 characters. If you’re registering an adjective, make sure to enter the reading in its dictionary form. The ending must be 〜い (~i). For example, あたらしい (atarashii) or たかい (takai). If you’re registering an adverb, don’t include inflective endings, such as 〜な (-na) or 〜だ (-da).
    4. Click the With column, then type the replacement word in the With field.A word can be no longer than 64 characters.
Hope this helps you out. I will have to wait until Tuesday to find out if it works on my work computer.
    Happy Chinese New Year.

  • Japanese input - keyboard layout

i am fairly new mac user. i bought this imac in May and set it up, so that i can type in japanese.
it was working fine until last weekend. usually, i just use english keyboard layout to type in japanse (type "sushi" to get sushi in japanese), but now keyboard layout is off. when i type "sushi" in japanese mode it shows typed as "ogodc" when it should be "sushi". i am not sure what happened. the conversion itself works. when i type S on the keyboard, it acts as if i typed O (which is wrong), and it shows as O in japanese (which is correct).
when i go to international language setting, i can see the input type as "keyboard" for US, but "input method" for japanese.
i could not find anything in documents provided by apple.

Go to Kotoeri Preferences (toward bottom of the "flag" menu when you have Hiragana or whatever selected), first tab, third item down, and make sure it says US. If not, click on it to select US.

  • Series 60 3rd Edition Japanese Input

    Hi
I posted a similar topic about this for the N70 but plans didn't pan out as originally intended and it wasn't required.
I'm planning to return to the UK and I am looking at phones for my return. I've used some variant of Series 60 for the past 4 years and would quite like to continue.
Is there any way (third party or otherwise) of getting a 3rd Edition phone running an IME for Japanese text with Japanese font?
2nd Edition phones can run applications by Psiloc however I've contacted them and they have stated that they are not intending on upgrading these applications to 3rd Edition in the near future.
I really need a phone that I can enter Japanese into, any suggestions?

    Update...
You have the full procedure explained here:
    http://erwan.jp/2008/10/29/japanese-input-on-s60/
I haven't tried it yet, but I definitely will.
I hope it works on Nokia N95.
    Cheers.

  • Plz help!  Multi-byte input method and JPasswordField in java 1.4

    Hello
I got JTextField and JPasswordField in one dialog. I enter multi-byte text into text field, using Microsoft IME, switch focus into password text field without changing input method, and now all text entered in password text field appear in previous visited text field. This issue actual only in java 1.4 and disappear in java 1.5. Is anyone now what can i do to fix it in java 1.4? thanks!

  • Input Method selection broken in Emacs?

I just installed Emacs through "pacman -S emacs", but I can't get the selection of input method to work.
When I hit "C-x RET C-\" or choose "Options/Mule/Select input method" in the emacs menu I get
"Select input method (default rfc1345)" as usual, but when I hit tab to get all the alternatives, usually about 100 alternatives, I get "no match".  I also get "no match" if I write "japanese" which should be an alternative, and even if i hit RET to get the default value.
Any idea what could be wrong?

I found an old newsgroup discussion about a similar issue, and it seems I will need leim, as in the package emacs-leim which is in unsupported. I guess all emacs packages I have used in other distributions had this already.
