Re: Vonage issues

I am also having problems with Vonage.  I can make calls but the person I call cannot hear me, however if they call me, they can hear me.  I do believe that Comcast is causing this to promote their own telephone services.RossM wrote:
Hi all - long time, no post Just wanted to shed some light on some recent issues some customers may have w/ their Vonage service.
The rumors in the blogs are completely untrue. Comcast does not block access to Vonage's - or any other provider's - Internet traffic.
We have been working with Vonage to investigate this situation, and they indicated to us that the problem was an isolated peering issue on their end, which had nothing to do with Comcast, and they are addressing it. We are certain that the problem is not an issue on our end.
Comcast does not block access to Internet traffic or Web sites.

  • WRTP54G Intermittent Connection Issues

Well I've had a WRTP54G router for a month and a half after the old one died. This one has been performing great once I got the firmware upgraded to the latest Vonage version. Well, today that changed. On all the machines on my network the 'LAN cable unplugged' window keeps popping up every 5-15 seconds. It then reconnects and then goes 'unplugged' again. Of course I tried power cycling modem and router. Of course I tried resetting the router to factory defaults. Neither was any help. I also tried connecting a system directly the modem. It was stable for more than an hour. As soon as I put the router back in the loop, I go back to the limited connection. I also tried the wireless connections and I was never able to get connected but I did see the network appear and disappear as I refresh the 'available wireless networks' so I assume it has the same symptoms as the wired connections. Any ideas? I've sat on hold for 2.5 hours now in two calls to Linksys support (first time I got disconnected in a transfer). I'm not sure if it's something that CAN be fixed, or if I just lost my second of these two routers in two months to a hardware failure. Help!

I'm having similar problems with my WRTP54G .. the problems have been occurring for over a year and have persisted through the migration to firmware 1.00.62 ... I have never had telephone/Vonage issues .. the only setup changes I have made are to disable wireless (don't use it) and to prioritize the telephone under "Applications and Gaming"/Quality_of_Service for ports 256 and 512 .. the problems I have been having with both Windows XP and Windows Vista computers is that they will report no internet connection/unplugged cable? at startup or after awakening from hibernation... I can only get connected by either resetting the router via the reset switch or by moving my ethernet cables to a new port... if I move my cable I get an "active" light on the router and I regain access... I know these routers have seriously bad firmware problems related to gaming and downloading sites... I use neither... how do I clear buffers/memory etc. to get this silly thing to work correctly?

  • Vonage email notifications and Apple Mail client

Vonage provides a very nice feature in which, as soon as someone leaves a voice mail message, Vonage sends out an email notification to up to five different email addresses, in addition to sending a text message to a cell phone alerting you that someone has left you a voice message on your Vonage phone. Besides getting just a text-based email notification, you can also opt to have Vonage attach a .WAV file to the email it sends to those email accounts you list in your account settings page on the Vonage web site. I think this is a great feature, because I have my iPhone set up to receive the text message, and I also configured my email accounts to receive the email notifications together with the attached .WAV file, so I can listen to the recorded voice mail messages right on the iPhone, without having to dial in to a Vonage number, or go to the Vonage web site to listen to the voice mail via a computer.
While the Vonage email notifications with the attached .WAV files arrive just fine in my mac.com and my aol.com email accounts, those same email messages are NOT being sent to my the roadrunner.com email account provided by Time-Warner cable, my Internet Service Provider.
When I brought this matter up the tech support people at Vonage, they theorized that the roadunner server might be blocking receipt of the emails sent by the Vonage server. However, the problem does not seem to be related to roadrunner.com, because those email messages actually do reside on the roadrunner server. I can see them all right, but only if I use a browser and check my messages via their Web Mail application. For some mysterious reason, my Apple Mail client is NOT receiving those messages, and I have no clue why that would be so.
Does anybody know what is going on here? Shouldn't Apple Mail be able to retrieve all the messages on the roadruner server? What could prevent Apple Mail from being able to do that? And, is there anything I can do to make those email notifications —with their attached .WAV files—show up in my Inbox in Apple Mail?
Since I thankfully receiving those email notifications at my mac.com and my aol.com accounts, this is not a mission-critical issue for me. It is merely one of one technical curiosity.
    bowlerboy

To close out this thread, about all I can say is that the issue does not seem to be related to Apple software or to my Internet Service Provider. It is a Vonage issue that can only be fixed by calling Vonage tech support and getting their programmer/technicians to do whatever it is that they to do on their end to configure their Vonage email notifications to function correctly. If something sneezes, as it did in regards to my account, then Vonage tech support is the first place to call.
I'll consider this issue "answered" now.

  • 2 routers; no communication from computers on each router to each other

So I have a BEFW11S4 Wireless router and a Vonage issued wired router. Here's the layout...
    Cable Modem>
    Linksys Vonage VOIP (router 1)>
       -Computer 1
    BEFW11S4 (router 2)>
       -Computer 2
       -Computer 3
I can get computers 2 & 3 to talk to each other through the network, but cannot access either way from computer 1.  I know this is probably something simple or impossible, but how do I get all three to communicate with each other?
Is there a way to disable firewall properties on Router #2 and just make it act as a gateway or does that leave my wireless communication vulnerable?

You need to convert your BEFW11S4 to a WAP (wireless access point).
To do this, do the following:
    1)  Power down your entire system, modem, routers, computers, etc. and disconnect all wires from the BEFW11S4.
    2)  Connect one computer, by wire, to one of the numbered LAN ports  (not the Internet port)  of the BEF.
    3)  Power up the BEF, and allow it to fully boot.
    4)  Login to the BEF's web page at 192.168.1.1
    5)  Change the "Local IP address"  to 192.168.15.2   (I assume your RT31P2 is still using 192.168.15.1  and that you are not using 192.168.15.2  elsewhere in your network.)
    6)  Set the "DHCP server" to "disabled".
    7)  Save your settings.
    8)  Power down the BEF.
    9)  Now connect any LAN port on the RT31P2, to any LAN port on the BEF  (do not connect anything to the Internet port on the BEF).
    10)  Power up your system, it should work.
Note:  Your RT31P2  will control all your router settings (DHCP server, port forwarding, etc.)  The BEFW11S4 will only control your wireless settings.

  • Issue with Linksys Router and Modem with Vonage Device

    Hello,
I have a Linksys Router and Cable Modem.  Plus I have Vonage for my home phone.  I have been having several problems and now, my Vonage phone will not work at all.  I have cable internet and my ISP is Cox Commuication.  I do not know how to connect my Vonage device with my Router and Modem.  People have been giving me advice, but nothing has worked.
Does anyone know how to intergrate all three of these items together?  Basically which plug goes where.  Currently my phone is not working.  The only thing that is in use right now is my linksys cable modem.  I have the power cord plugged in, the blue cord from the modem plugged into my laptop, and the cable from the modem to the wall jack.  Please help.  Thank-You!
    Linksys Router:  WRT54G version 6
    Linksys Cable Modem:  BEFCMU10

The router should be online first. Can you get into the router's configuration page?
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • X Pro Vonage and Audio issue

Just yesterday, I downloaded X Pro Vonage to use with my Mac Book Pro.  Install went fine, recognizes my new Vonage line.  However, when use the tuning wizard correctly, the X Pro cant find my speakers/mic.  Any help??

    Hi s,
    Try a PRAM Reset: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
    Is the adapter certified?

  • New AEBS installed, Vonage initially worked fine, but now is not.

I recently upgraded my home network, ditching the Linksys WRT54G router I had in favor of a new Airport Extreme Base Station. everything has been working fine, but all of a sudden I noticed that my Vonage adapter wasn't connected and was spitting out error 001.
The Vonage adapter is plugged into a 10/100 hub that's uplinked to one of the LAN ports on the AEBS (I know it's a waste, but nothing on that segment is gigabit capable…)
I launched into full troubleshooting mode, and determined that the cabling, hub and AEBS are all functioning perfectly. I also don't think that it could be a port forwarding issue, since several days passed between the time I swapped in the AEBS and the time when the Vonage adapter stopped working. In that time, several incoming and outgoing calls took place over the Vonage line and all was fine.
On a whim, I connected the Vonage adapter to a laptop and set it up with a static IP and attempted to configure port forwarding to it in the AEBS, but there was no change. Incidentally, with the static IP on the Vonage adapter, I was able to ping it from other computers on the network, but it still isn't able to download it's config from the outside world.
Vonage tech support has been willing to help, but unable to tell me anything useful thus far.
My question is, is anyone here using such a setup, and if so have you seen any issues like this? I'm really thinking that the adapter has given up the ghost, but I don't know.

To help you with your troubleshooting you should visit https://forums.vonage.com/
I had Vonage. Initially it worked then I had tremendous voice dropouts. After weeks of troubleshooting with Vonage (they rolled back firmware in their adapter) it worked... for about 6 months. Then the same problem reappeared. Troubleshooting with Vonage could not solve the issue this time. Since I had to have phone service, I cancelled Vonage and went to ITP. Unfortunately Vonage stuck me with cancellation fees even though their service would not work for me.

  • Linksys WRTP54G DNS issue

I have reviewed and tried HOURS of suggestions on this site regarding WI-FI DNS issue ie. "can't find the server" message. This appears to be Router model problem/resolution. Does anyone know the specific fix to get the ITouch to work with an linksys WRTP54G Router. General comments and fixes are not needed, only the one specific for this router. Thanks.

Don't give up on the iPod Touch. It's one of the most remarkable devices ever invented.
Your router routes IP traffic. That's all you need. Your iPod should work with any router. Somewhere, there a configuration setting that is not right.
There is one other possibility, and that's that your ISP is doing something funny like using a proxy server. Unlikely but possible.
You need to attack this systematically. Like has been suggested, narrow down if it is a connectivity or a DNS issue. If you can get to a site by its IP address, then you have a DNS issue. If you cannot, then it is something set wrong elsewhere.
    Possibilities:
    - MAC filtering (you have ruled this out)
    - Encryption (you have ruled this out)
    - Is your router not giving out enough IP addresses? If you set the limit to 2 and you have 3 computers, someone will lose out.
    - Is your router correctly picking up its settings from your ISP (DHCP), or have you hardcoded some or all of it? Does your (working) PC have some of the missing bits hardcoded - for example, if your router doesn't have its DNS settings, but your IP settings on the PC have them hardcoded, the PC will work, but the iPod won't - unless of course you hard code them on the iPod as well
    - Have you inadvertently coded something into your router like a static route, a filter, , or configured a DMZ that is conflicting with the DHCP address that your iPod is getting?
    - Have you (or someone in your house) configured some access restrictions on the router, maybe for another PC in the house, like a child's PC?
If all of this is confusing, or something is really screwed up, you could always start form scratch, as if you just bought the router. There is a way to reset it to factory defaults (I believe holding the hidden reset button for a long time), then set it up correctly for your ISP again, and it should work for all computers, iPods, etc.
There is always the possibility that the Vonage firmware is somehow interfering. Do you use the Vonage features? You could always put in a more standard firmware.
Bottom line, it is far more likely that this is a setting on your router than the fault of the iPod. The iPod is just an every day IP device, and should work with just about everything. Do not give up on the iPod.

  • Phone adapter issues

When I put the wall adapter into the battery port the phone will begin to charge but as soon as I put it down it stops. I have to hold the charger at an angle for the phone to stay charging. Any thoughts? (Plus ever since I updated the phone, I don't see the battery meter).

I just wanted to follow-up here for everyone's benefit.
I proceeded with the instructions for hard reset and disabled my firewall (Norton 2008) as instructed.  I still could not change the security settings and to make matters worse, my PC connection to the router throughout configuration kept degrading and I kept losing the webpage.  I tried different Ethernet ports on the router nad had the same problem.  I then connected my PC to spare ports on my Vonage router and had no problems so I think it is a router issue.
Any more suggestions?  Looks like it is time for a new wireless device.  Little disappointed this failed after 2.5 years in service.  Would have expected a little longer life.
    Thanks,

  • RT31P2 + WRT54GL + Vonage problems

Hey guys, I've been having a recurrent issue for a while now, and lately the problem has gotten a lot worse.  Before I describe the problem, I would like to explain the exact set-up that I have to better explain the situation. (I have had this set-up for a good 4-5 years now)
    - I have vonage phone service, and they provided me with the the RT31P2 router for use to connect my phone lines to. Since this is not a wireless router, I went out and bought a WRT54GL, so I can get wireless access for my laptop.
    - In order to set up the two routers, I connected the ethernet cable from my cable modem and plugged it directly into the WAN of the RT31P2. I took another ethernet cable, plugged it into one of the ethernet ports on the RT31P2, and plugged the other end into the ethernet port of the WRT54GL.
Note: Before I did the above connections, I disabled the DHCP on the WRT54GL and changed the starting IP address to 192.168.15.2. Also set up a secure password enabled network.  For the RT31P2 router, all the settings remained the same, and it's IP is 192.168.15.1.
    - For the most part, this set up has been absolutely fine. My home phones would work with no static, no dropped calls, etc. I have one PC that is hooked up via ethernet on the RT31P2. Three laptops that connect wirelessly to the WRT54GL.
Problem:  A couple of days ago, I noticed my internet speeds became drastically reduced on the PC's that are connected via WiFi. (Normally, I would get speedtest.net results with a range of download: 9-10Mbps and upload: ~ 0.54Mbps.) The speeds I was getting instead were close to 2Mbps (download), and even lower for upload. I isolated the problem and found out that only PC's connected via WiFi were experiencing this slowness. The one PC connected via ethernet was still getting its average normal speeds. (Currently, I hooked up two laptops to the RT31P2 via ethernet and disabled the WRT54GL router, and its running at normal speeds).
I called up my ISP to come and take a look and see where the proble might be, and everything on their end seems to be fine. Since they only provided the cable modem, anything extra has to be taken care of the party that is responsible for it. So basically, everything via direct connection from Cable modem, or ethernet connection from RT31P2 is good, but my wireless connection from WRT54GL is no longer usable because of the slowness.  I have not changed the above-mentioned set-up at all, there were no hardware changes, nothing that can explain why all of a sudden devices connected to my wifi would be this slow. This issue seems to occur maybe 2-3 days every two weeks or so, but currently, it's been going on for about a week.  I think I also had a similiar problem like this sometime last year, and it took a long long time for the wifi to become stable again (close to a month). At that time, my ISP said the same thing to me - that there is no fault on their part because the signal strength was good on their end.
So does anybody have any idea/know why this might be happening with my wireless router?
*Also, another issue with vonage phone service - right when the wifi started acting up, I noticed that my home phone was getting a lot of static, making calls unbearable. I would get a dial tone, but it was absolutely impossible to carry out a conversation with that amount of static. So I called Vonage this morning, and we spent a good amount of time trying to isolate the problem.  What we came up with is the fact since I kept my cable modem and routers literally on top of each other, that it was causing some type of interference. When I moved all the devices away from each other, the static disappeared (only a little bit remained, but not a big deal). However, after I hung up the phone with vonage support, I realized that the static was not gone because I moved the routers away from each other, but the fact that the static only occurs if i have another ethernet cable plugged into the RT31P2 (which is the router where the phone lines connect to), where the other end of ethernet cable is connected to a PC. Any ideas on what might explain that? Do you guys think there is a correlation between the static on the vonage and the wifi problems, even though they are on different routers..?
I know it's a long message, but I would really appreciate if somebody would take the time to go over this post and help me out. Thanks a lot to anybody with suggestions.

  • Access policy issues and daylight savings

I have the WRVS4400N. I have purchased a few Linksys routers in the past and have been happy with their operation. The wireless access however, was mediocre until I purchased this model. This model has great a great wireless connection. I like the fact that I can make many changes to the settings on the router without having to reboot the router. The performance of this router in combination with the cable modem has been excellent. It far outperforms the equipment that it replaced. I will normally pick a linksys product over another brand.
I am having 2 intermittent issues that are really causing me grief and an additional couple of annoying issues. I need help in fixing these issues. I have confirmed that I have the latest firmware version.
    1) Some computers do not have connection to the internet. As if the security policy is confused about the time or connection. I really think this is a security policy issue, but I will let you decide.
    2) There are some computers that I allow a 24/7 connection to the internet. For the rest I don’t want them to have access between the hours of 12a-6a. I have found that the connection doesn’t always shut-off. I have kids and do not want them to have access during those hours. I never had problems with my previous linksys router.
    3) I am unable to set an access policy that spans the 5 min between 11:55p and 12a. In my previous linksys router I could.
    4) The new daylight savings schedule is not part of my current firmware. This really threw off my security policies.
I have found that if I reboot or if I simply goto the security policy screen and click on save settings it seems to correct itself. But, I shouldn’t have to babysit it to make sure that it’s working correctly. When I am out of town I need to know that my security policies will continue to work while I am away.
    Here’s my set up:
    1) I have a linksys cable modem that connects me to the internet through my cable provider.
    2) I have the linksys wireless (WRVS4400N) router that connects to the cable modem.
    3) I have a 3Com Superstack II switch as the backbone of my network which connects to the router.
    4) I have several devices connected to this router: computers, xbox, vonage phone line.

This is EXACTLY what my router is doing...
    2) Access restrictions do not work, PERIOD...."ALLOW" will disable internet access for the entire subnet (regardless of the rule), and "DENY" will prevent uploading of file attachments to hotmail, myspace, facebook etc....for every computer on the subnet.

  • VOIP Dial out issues with SRP547W

Hi All, this is my first post so I appologise if I have posted it in the wrong place up front.
I have recently purchased an SRP 547w replacing an 877w and linksys pap2t voip box.
I have 1 major issue at present - no matter which number I dial, I cannot ring out.  I get what appears to be an engaged tone.
History:  I used to run the linksys papt2 behind the 877w and it worked without issue.  Ports opened and forwarded were:
    udp 5060-5061
    udp 8000-8001
    my SIP port is 5060
    the RTP ports are 8000-8001
I know this works on the SRP547 as without them, I cannot make any calls into the system.
These settings worked perfectly on the PAP2T; I have copied them across to the SRP547W and opened the same ports.  I can call VOIP device on the specified number, but still no dialing out.
The 2 main differences I can see on the new device 1)  The VOIP is integrated into the router so I'm not routing traffic in exaxtly the same way as I was with the PAPt2 and the second being that the SRP547W also has the ability to connect a PSTN line - which I do not have.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the issue?
For the record, I have diabled the firewall - same result; additionally, if I connect the PAP2T to the SRP547 and forward the ports (or enable UPNP) then I can actually dial out which means I think its safew to say that my issue is within the SRP547W.
I can conrim that the SRP547 does 'hear' the tones from the phone.  When I dial certain numbers (to force certein codecs) the system responds to them.
If anyone else has had a similar issue, could you help me out with some direction?
I'd post logs, but I'm not sure how to get them off this device (yet) - I've only had this device for 4 days.....

I forgot to post an update.
Get this, I figured out the problem and it was Sun Rocket.
They did a firmware update over night that caused it to break.
After about three months of working with Linksys, Comcast and Microsoft and tyring everything I was told. It still failed.
Then after another month, I finally was contacted by an engineer from Sun Rocket who was giving me advice over everything we already tried.
I asked him if there was a firmware update from the date I put the complaint ticket in. He checked the database and sure enought, that is what it was.
Their firmware update did not work well with the Linksys router.  He rolled back the firmware and now it works perfect.
The SunRocket tech said he put me on a list of Sun Rocket Gizmos NOT TO update firmware.
Well , about 2 months later, they updated it by mistake and now I am going through the pains with SunRocket all over again.
I told them how they fixed it but the Level 1, 2 and 3 techs don't seem to know how to roll back the firmware and they did not have any notes from the engineer on what version to roll it back to.
The the root cause was SunRocket's Gizmo.
Trust me, I've tried chaning the MTU to remoting in to the Sunrocket Gizmo and change the bandwith settings ect ect.  I've been through the ringer and I still have problems with them.
The SunRocket Gizmo can not handle the high bandwidth like the linksys router can.
Good Luck, I only have SunRocket for another month and I am thnking about going with Vonage or Comcast.
Here is a picture of the SunRocket Gizmo I am using.

  • FIOS & Vonage

    Hi,
I am thinking about making the switch to FIOS from TWC (I received a great triple play offer in the mail), but my only real concern is I currently use Vonage for my phone service and I am really happy with them. If I switch to FIOS from TWC, are there any issues with the two? I have read conflicting information online that there are problems using Vonage with FIOS as the ISP.
    Thanks

OK so for the other end of the spectrum, I've had FiOS and Vonage for years and had no problems whatsoever.  IMHO and experience, FiOS has been FANTASTIC! I've always had an excellent experience with the service.  Now over the years I have upgraded a few times and downgraded all the way down to $10 basic local only using the TV Tuner up to what I have had the longest, which is Ultimate HD.  I had been on the multi-room DVR since it became available and just yesterday installed my new boxes that came when upgrading to the new Quantum Premium TV service.  I have the 150/50 internet now since the beginning of May...  NOW, during each of those upgrades and downgrades there was some sort of SNAFU and for some reason something was wrong and not working for a day or a weekend until Monday cuz it's a holiday kind of thing.  BUT, once the service was up and running then it worked flawlessly without fail EVER. I freaking LOVE FiOS.  I manage 238 apartments and we have Comcast, RCN, an Verizon FiOS service available to our residents.  I both experience myself and see and hear from the experiences with each company from our tenants, and the feeling is mutual.  I have been here 10 years and had Comcast for half and FiOS for half.
OH LOL... I just realized I don't have Vonage anymore.... it's OOMA now tee hee.  Well you get the dirft...
