Restore laptop software to factory condition

Before I sell my laptop how should i prepare it. The HDD will be new.
I will install windows 7 and activate, then plug in ethernet cable, then install all windows updates/drivers
is there any other HP specific stuff i should download?

Hi there:
If you're using Recovery discs/USB to restore everything to factory settings, I suggest you buy HDD of at least same capacity as the one that came with your laptop. You'll not need to download any drivers from your support page if recovery media is used.
If you're using Windows 7 ISO installation media for CLEAN INSTALL, then HDD capacity restriction is not a problem. Phone activation of Window 7 should be done on installation.
There is nothing else to worry about.

  • Restore 2012 imac to factory conditions - OSX Mavericks

    Hi
I have a early Late 2012 early 2013 maxed out iMac 27" (Slim one with Fusion drive and a FDD) It came with Snow Leopard installed.
I now want to restore it back to factory condition clean but with Mavericks on it.  I then want to set it up with my software.
How do I do this as I have read conflicting reports.
I will clone the drive before I start with Superduper and backup all software/Date.
One method says delete HDD in settings and then when you reboot you have an option to automataclly download Maverricks.  Is this correct ? Is this the best way ? How will it download when I havent set up internet access ?
Another methods mention making a bootable USB drive.
Please advise as I would like to do this over Christmas
    regards CARLO

You can only reinstall the OS version that came pre-installed. You must remove the computer from your list of registered products once you sell it so the new owner can register it and use the original pre-installed software.
Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
Step One - Back up your data:
           A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
           B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
              1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
              2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
              3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
                  side.
              4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
                  sure to opt for that.
Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
                   startup drive.
Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
              1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
              3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
              4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
              5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See.What to do with iCloud before selling your computer
Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
         A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
              1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
              2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
              3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              4. Install OS X.
              5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
              6. Shutdown the computer.
         B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
it is three times faster than wireless.
              1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
                  Utilities window appears.
              2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
              3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
              4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
              6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
              7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
              8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
*If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. If this is not possible then simply erase the drive. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.

Did you use the Toshiba recovery disks to restore your notebook to factory condition?  All of the drivers would have been installed at that time.  If you don't have the disks, consider ordering a set.  Call  Customer Service: (800) 457-7777.
Your notebook has a Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset.  The driver for it is available by clicking on the 'Product Support' link at the top of this page and navigating to it.  Please note that there is a critical product support notice concerning the need to update your BIOS to prevent a power on password from appearing:

If you did not use the Toshiba recovery disks, then there are several other drivers and utilities on your model's page that should be installed to get the best utility from it.
A quick link to the display driver for your notebook is:

  • Lost all my photos and music because I had to reset my laptop back to factory condition.

Hello everyone! ok so I had to reset my HP laptop running windows 7 back to factory condition. I could not back anyting up because my laptop was barely usable. I lost everything! But this happened to me in the past on another computer and I started messing around way deep in the computer files and eventually i found everything! It took forever to find them but I did in fact find them. but now the problem is that was so long ago that i cant remember at all how I did it or got to where i was. Does anybody know how to find the files i am talking about?

    Excuse me for jumping in.
Download and Recuva Free, it may get your files back even if the disk is formated, it will take a while.

  • T 61 - Hard Drive problem after attempt to restore laptop to ex-factory situation

    Hi all
I have a T61 Type 7664-17U from 07/10 bought at a charity auction. It came with all the disks to reset to ex-factory  situation. Worked nicely for almost a year the sound indicating that there was no drivers for it. Went to Lenovo site, got the correct driver and tried to install it.
A message came that only part of the request was executed, still no sound and no driver. I log off to sign up as administrator as it could be lack of "authority" so to speak, just to discover that the person that bought it for me and installed some software he had allowed himself to set up a password for "administrator".
    No other passwords exist anywhere.
Because the T61 came with lots of software that I do not use and that were just slowing it down, and also because it came from other "hands" and including for security reasons I decided that it was time, to clean the entire hard drive to ex-factory situation.
Used all the disks and everything went well until after all the disks were run and inserted the "Supplemental Disk" in the end a message came up.
    No AOD file found
After auto restart was made I was instructed:
"Click next to begin Recovery Process"
    then
    "Preparing Hard Drive"
The laptop freezed for about 3 or 4 seconds and proceeded again on its own but the hard drive was not formatted, simply no time for it.
    New auto-restart
    Then a message.
    "No Hard Drive Present"
Now, on a 160 GB Disk, I can only see a single partition of about 6 (six) gigabytes named SERVICE 0001
Couldn't find a way around this problem.
Can anyone help me and tell me what might have happened and how to solve this problem ?
Buying another disk is simply not an option at this time.

    Hello,
Have you tried erasing or wiping the disk using whatever tool the hard disk drive manufacturer provides, and then performing a clean install from the recovery media?  If so, what effect did that have?

  • HT1766 Forced to bring PC laptop back to factory condition.  Reloaded Itunes, Iphone app image on ITunes is faded, unable to manipulate.  Right clicking the device & clicking on backup doesn't let me manipulate my data.  How do I fix?

Prior to the need to strip my laptop, my Itunes/Iphone backup and synch happened with ease.  On the reinstall of Itunes, and the provision of my ID and password, I find that I can see a faded (greyed out) version of my apps, but I can't move them within Itunes, which I usually do to pop them in category folders.  The songs and ring tones on the Iphone do not show in Itunes either.  Any suggestions?
The phone functions fine by itself.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPhone. Only if you back up your device manually before syncing, you can restore it from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Here's what to do:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPhone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your device without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPhone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Restoring my laptop to factory condition

I would like to know is it possible to restore my laptop to the factory condition without having the system disks or the password to the previous administrator files?

    New models:
    Turn off the laptop completely
Press and hold "0" (ZERO, the one above letter O and P) and turn on the laptop without letting go of the zero.
The laptop will beep and say "Windows is loading files."
Let go of the zero and wait until you see the big WARNING sign.
Click yes, select "Factory Default", click next, select "Out of Box", click next, next
It should say "Initializing the partition, please wait"
Wait 1-2 hours for the process to complete.

  • I can't restore my system to its factory condition.

    hello all
i have Pavilion DV6 laptop, my HardDisk is dmaged and i can't boot anymore (because of the physical BadSectors) , so ibought a new HardDisk ( 1TB )
when i plug my old hard disk into another PC , i can see the 3 partion's
    1 : C:\[system]
    2 : D:\ [Recovery]
    3 : E:\ [HP TOOLS]
i can fully browse them , so i just copied all the files in the partion D:\ ( which contains the Recovery Files) to my new Hard Disk
( i made a new partion with enough free space for the recovery files )
i done that by showing the hidden files and the system hidden files and then copy , the original size of the Recovery files are the same with the new one (near 19 GB) so i just installed a new Windows 7 (32bit) in my New HardDisk (the old system was windows 7 64bit but i have windows 7 32bit CD Available so thats why)
and i also downloaded and installed HP Recovery manager to restore my laptop to its factory condition, but when i run the recovery manager,i got an error message(HardDisk.dll is missing) i downloaded that .dll file , next time i got another error (PRRC.dll is missing) i downloaded that file too , finally when i ran the Recovery manager from my Desktop i got a Turkish message ! , while my system language is arabic
    see here : http://imgur.com/WzrMDD2
and when i reboot and Press F11 To start the Recovery manager, it starts normally but i can't click on the system restore ! , i also can't reset my laptop to its factory condition, the buttons are disabled see here : http://imgur.com/7JYwO8B i can only click on Run Computer checkup and Show Contact info
should i install a 64 bit system and try the Previous step ? , or is there any missing files that i should copy into the D or C ?
please guys help me to restore my system , the old HardDisk is Dmaged and not bootable anymore so i don't want it

Hello MohammedFawzi.  I understand you're trying to recover your notebook to factory conditions.
If you're unable to perform the recovery the normal way I suggest ordering a set of Recovery Discs directly from HP.  This will not only reinstall the operating system but will also recreate the partitions (including Recovery), install drivers, and most of the software.
To order the discs you'll need to contact HP Support in your region.  You can visit HP Support Worldwide to locate your region's contact information.
I hope this is helpful.  Have an amazing week!
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"

  • Reload computer software to factory original from hard disk partion D

I have an HP Pavillion Slimline s3750t, bought in May 2009
    It originally had Windows Vista
It has a partitioned hard drive with the factory image on drive D
A few months after purchase I loaded Windows 7 Home Premium
I would like to wipe drive C clean and restore to the original factory condition.
    I did the following steps:
    PC Help & Tools
    Recovery Manager
    Advanced Options
Select:  Recover your computer to its original factory condition
A couple of ‘Next’ and Win 7 shuts down, and Systems Recovery Options screen comes up
It asks for a user name and password and gives 3 options:
ASPNET (I don’t know what that is plus when trying it nothing happens (I have no password for it)
    Dallas (my name)
HomeGroupUser$  (I am not hooked up to a homegroup right now)
I select Dallas and get 5 options: Startup Repair, System Restore, System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Diagnostic, Command Prompt.
None of these are the options I am looking for nor will do what I want.
Apparantly loading Windows 7 has interferred with the software that restores the computer to its factory condition.  Is there something els I can try.

  • Restoring Lenovo T61 to factory settings?

    Hi all,
I'm thinking of restoring my T61 to factory condition, but I don't know how. I don't have a Lenovo backup CD available, and I doubt they'll ship a CD to my country (Vietnam), so I need instructions on how to restore using the ThinkVantage button. Please give me thorough instructions, as I'm no expert on computers.
    Thanks in advance.

You can buy the recovery media from Lenovo Vietnam for about 50 USD equivalent.
The function of the recovery partition would only be restored when using the recovery media (this would reformat the entire hdd, so make sure you save everything before you do it).

  • Restoring HP laptop to Factory condition

I have a HP Pavilion DV7 4165DX laptop that I purchased a few years ago, when Windows 8 came out I purchased a legal copy of Windows 8, however I have always hated it and I want to go back to Windows 7. That is the OS that was on my laptop when I purchased it. I also remember a couple of years ago restoring that same laptop to factory condition, but I can't remember how I did it .... it was a key combination on boot up that would restore the laptop to factory condition. I have reseached on google what key need to be pushed in what order, however every combination that  I have tried will not work. I do know that the original recovery partition is still there but it seems like windows 8 boots so quickly that it by passes the key combination. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

    Hi:
Once you installed W8, you probably rendered the recovery partition useless.
In order to use the recovery partition, you tap the F11 key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen to get the menu to restore the PC to its 'out of the box software' condition.
You can try that, but I don't think it will work.
If it doesn't you will need to order a set of recovery disks for your PC by clicking on the link below, then click to expand the line labeled Order Recovery Media.  Then click on the blue More Details button.
