RoboHelp 7 and x5

Have files from client that uses RoboHelp x5... can I use
Robohelp 7 to create help files for client without creating
backward compatibility issues for client when files returned?
Thanks
TH

I would not think any reputable software supplier would still
be shipping it.
Be wary of any other source. Maybe they used the copy of X5
to purchase an upgrade so I think they would not be able to sell
that as they are still technically using it. That assumes it is a
genuine copy in the first place.
You may find cracked copies but apart from the legality, you
never know what you may catch from that.
Can your client not uninstall a copy they have and let you
use that?

  • Help file fails to generate RoboHelp 7 and Word 2003

Hello, I am back again with a new struggle.  I am creating a WinHelp4 file for an older application using Word 2003 and Robohelp 7.  There are several different results regardless of whether I make updates, corrections, add jumps, change Topic IDs or do nothing when I click on generate:
    1.  sometimes it generates and works perfectly, just not very often, usually between 8 and 805am ET.
    2.  sometime it will generate an error:  Failed to compile
    3.  another error:  filename.rtf does not exist, but it is there in the folder
    4. generates a Warning, but I don't know what the warning is as it does not show it
    5. generates a blank Help with only a single glossary definition
    6. not enough memory ( 1 gb is available)
    7. corrupted file, rerun and it works...sometimes
    I have:
    1. Started over
    2. Rebooted
    3. Uninstalled and reinstalled RoboHelp 7 and all updates
    4. Tried adding one item (jump, new topic, changed topic, updates to TOC, renamed anything) at a time and then generated file
    5. Create an html from Word...I know silly but it worked some of the time.
I feel like there must be a setting error I missing or something hidden that I need to remove.  There is something or a very big bug! I can't find anything and RoboHelp 7, Word 2003 and creating Winhelp4 files have been fine the last 2 months...now...not so fine.
Please help!  I am so close to finished!
    Thanks,
and if this isn't enough, I cannot generate a print to PDF either, but used to!

I wish I could try on a different PC.  This is a government facility and that is not an option.  There are only 2 of us who have RH and I think the other person may have left last week...what luck!
As far as anything else running, that is possible....I may try disconnecting the network and see if it will work...that should check it, right?
Background resources are very probable as their are virus scanners and who knows what else...my rights are very limited, no Admin rights to the machine.
It just amazes me that it has worked and now at the very final stage and updates it will not.  I am in early when it usually works, 745a ET and it failed.  These are the error messages and I usually get this type:
Warning - HC4004: datcap.rtf is not an RTF (Rich Text Format) file.
Warning - HC4009: The Topic ID "Data_Capture_Operations" specified in the Project files as the Default Topic does not exist.
What is odd, is they are both there and have worked consistently up until this recent failure....cannot complile.
I know this is long, but here is the notpad error:

  • Running RoboHelp 10 and RoboHelp 11 on the same system

    Background
    Windows 7, 64-bit operating system.
Upgraded RoboHelp 10 to RoboHelp 11 this week. Upgraded my RH10 WebHelp Proj project (released with our 2.0 application) to start editing for release with 3.0 application next June .
The upgrade did not uninstall RoboHelp 10.
I work from within Visual Studio 2010 Professional. (I know that this is not a Source Control thread, but my issues are intertwined here.)
I create WebHelp Pro (even though we are not yet publishing to RH Server, although we're working on it!).
I check the output into Release folders in Souce Control, and the build picks up the files for installation with our application.
    Questions
If I need to update the 2.0 application Help, does anyone know whether I can still use RH10 to update that project? (I've posed the question to an Adobe consultant, but have not yet heard back.)
If I can't use RH10 to update the 2.0 application Help (and have to open the 2.0 project in RH11 and, therefore, upgrade it), are there new things in RH11 that could affect the WebHelp Pro output and, therefore, affect the use of the WebHelp Pro HTM files by the application? (Our release engineer believes that, for version control purposes, I must make changes to the 2.0  project in the same RH Client used to develop it.)
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi,Carol
First, (and to reiterate what Rick said) if you are not publishing to RoboHelp Server right now. Do NOT use WebHelp Pro. The Pro flavor is strictly for hosting on a RoboHelp Server installation.
The good news is that when and if you do decide to use RoboHelp Server, you simply take the Rh project (whether from Rh 10 or 11) and publish it with the WebHelp Pro SSL. It sounds like there is a some confusion between RoboHelp Server and Source Control. It is a common option to use RoboHelp Server and Source Control. But they are mutually exclusive. (While both may be used, they have nothing to do with one another.)
If you think about it, RoboHelp Server is output (by definition not "source")
So, you can continue using Rh 10 and 11 clients on the same computer, but as you note, you cannot open an Rh 10 project in Rh 11 because it is a one-way forward conversion (as Peter said).
As for publishing, be aware that when you move to RoboHelp Server, the publishing workflow is different. The web admin can't simply copy/paste WebHelp Pro output (from source control as you describe) to the Rh Server (or, as you said, "pick up files"). The project must be published from the RoboHelp 10/11 client directly to the Rh Server. This is because Rh Server is a database application and in order for the database to be "aware" of the new content, it must come from the RoboHelp client app (10 or 11). Also, in terms of Application Help and context sensitivity, there is a CSH API and a syntax that is used to call the Rh Server help topics from the application. This is covered in the online help. See the sub head "Access context-sensitive Help" in the Adobe RoboHelp Server 9 * RoboHelp Server Web Administrator tasks as well as Adobe RoboHelp 11 * Program Help for web pages

  • RoboHelp 10 and Visual Studio 2010

The company I work for is thinking about buying RoboHelp 10 to create an offline user help system for a WPF Ribbon Application being developed in Visual Studio 2010. I have been tasked with finding the recommended output format from RoboHelp 10 AND the best viewer for Visual Studio 2010. CHM output format is not an option. I have searched the web and found nothing that addresses both products. Does anyone know the best output format to use AND/OR what is the best viewer? Any / all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Visual Studio does have its own ability to create a help file. Here's the home page of Paul O'Rear's blog. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/thehelpguy/ You will also find information at http://www.helpware.net. You need to research that to find out if that would suit. This is not the forum for that topic.
Aside from that, the first issue is where is the help going to reside? If it is on a web server, then WebHelp would be an option. That can also be run locally but you may encounter some issues if you need links to PDF files. If the help is going to be installed locally, what's the objection to CHMs? In RoboHelp 10 they can be skinned to look like WebHelp.

  • RoboHelp 9 and ActionScript?

Hello. I am still quite green when it comes to the in's and out's of RoboHelp, so please pardon me if my inquiry is out-of-place in any way...
I am working on a PC/Mac compatible AIRHelp project in RoboHelp 9, and was wondering if there are any issues with authoring/inserting Actionscript? Essentially what I am looking to do is add two ActionScript source code files... the first is to be added to the project source folder and defines a particular class...  the second attempts to validate a function of said class. As these source files are part of a third party purchase, I wanted to verify that this class can be interfaced once the installed .air application is launched.
I thank you in advance for your time and information

Yes. It's called Technical Communication Suite upgrade
Sorry to be flippant. The whole point of TCS is that it adds the level of integration that you require but which is not available in the individual products.

  • RoboHelp X5 and MS Word 2007

    Hi,
I am going to have a new laptop soon. Currently, I am using
RoboHelp X5 and MS Word 2003. I have the option to install MS Word
    2007 on my new laptop.
My question is "Does MS Word 2007 work with RoboHelp X5?"
    Thank you!

    Hi again
Yes, you may open the X5 project in 7. But just to be on the
totally safe side, I'd make a backup copy of your project before
working on it in 7. Also, make sure all patches have been applied
to RoboHelp before attempting to open the older projects.

    Hi,
When I generate my primary layout with Robohelp 7 and open it

  • RoboHelp 10 and .CHM File Functionality Issue

I have RoboHelp 10 running on Microsoft Wincdows 7 operating sytem. I have completed my help topics in RoboHelp 10 and was using the Microsoft HTML Help layout/format to create my final .CHM help file. When I compile the help I don't get any error messages and all seems to be good. The .CHM file does get generated but when I open/run it, there are problems. It "freezes" on the first Help topic and none of the buttons or links work. I also can't close it down; I have to force it closed using the Task Manger. As a test, I also tried generating other help file formats using the same help topics/project I used to create the .CHM file. For example, I used the Multiscreen HTML5, WebHelp, and WebHelp Pro source layouts to generate a Help file and all of them function properly to produce a working Help file. It's just the .CHM file that is not working correctly. Is this a problem with Windows 7, RoboHelp 10 on Windows 7, or some other key process/step I forgot to do or include before generating the .CHM file? Thanks, Thom

It may be something related to the default topic. I'd suggest temporarily configuring a different default topic, recompile and see if the problem clears. If so, you know you need to pick apart the code of the default topic. If the problem is there with a different default, try creating a simple new topic with nothing really in it and set THAT topic as default. If it STILL happens after that, look at the Window settings. Perhaps something is lurking in there.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Adobe RoboHelp 7 and the Adobe Technical Communication Suite have just been posted

    Hi, folks.
The long-awaited Adobe RoboHelp 7 and the Adobe Technical
Communications Suite have just been posted on the Adobe website.
There are 30-day Trial versions that can be downloaded here:
    http://www.adobe.com/ap/products/robohelp/
Follow the link that says "Download the trial". After you
sign in, you can download either the RoboHelp 7 standalone release,
or the Technical Communications Suite which contains these
integrated products: RoboHelp 7, FrameMaker 8, Adobe Captivate 3
    and Acrobat 3D.
If you or members of your team use both RoboHelp and
FrameMaker, I'd strongly advise you take a look at Tech Comm Suite.
It's more than simply a "bundle:" of products. There is real
integration among the apps. Here are details:

For some screenshots and information, check out Peter
    Grainge's website
    http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/rh7/rh7.htm
I will also be posting some Adobe Captivate movies of the new
interface on my website in the next day or two.

You can also read more on the Adobe Tech Comm Blog
    http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/technical_communication/
These are exciting times. Two releases in one year! I don't
think there's any doubt about Adobe's committment to RoboHelp now
    Thanx,
    John

The first thing I looked at was the upgrade price, which is I
think is pretty reasonable. I may not have made it clear in my
other post that I installed the RH7 trial with RH6 still installed.
I'm pretty sure management will spring for an upgrade, and I don't
intend to use RH6 simultaneously at that point--only while I'm
    doing the trial.
The main thing I'm checking out is the double-byte character
support. One complaint I have there is that in HTML view, Japanese
characters are showing as squares. If I open the same topic file in
Notepad, the Japanese characters show up there, so I know RH7 isn't
really messing up the characters, it's just not displaying them in
HTML view. This still makes it difficult to manipulate Japanese
text in HTML view. Does anyone know if there is a way for these
characters to display in HTML view properly? Should I start a
    different post? Thanks,
    Ben

  • RoboHelp x5 and Office 2007

Does anyone know if you are able to operate RoboHELP x5 and Office 2007 without it shutting down with errors.  Currently we have a help system set up and we were updated to Office 2007 late March.  We are now having quite a few difficulties making changes to documents that needed updates.  Usually the documents were loaded as MS Word docs and then during compiling transformed to .html files.  Now with the Office 2007, RoboHELP doesn't want to import any documents because of the fact that X5 doesn't support Office 2007.  Is it possible to import the files as .html files instead to sidestep this issue?   Any help here would be greatly appreciated as I am a new user of RoboHELP with limited people who know how this program works.
    Thanks!

Not a chance. Sorry but you will have to upgrade.

  • Robohelp X5 and Vista

What are the expectations for using RoboHelp X5 and the
    webhelp output on Vista?

Hi sheilastew and welcome to our community. Webhelp will
certainly be supported under Vista regardless of whether it is
produced in RH. As always it is wise to test all aspects of your
project before going live on Vista. There is no reason to believe
RH won't work on Vista in much the same way as you can use Word 97
    with windows XP.

  • Robohelp 9 and TFS 2012 issue - TFS linking is not working

    Hi,
I'm using Adobe Robohelp 9 with Team Foundation Server 2012 on Windows 7 -  64 bit. I've also installed Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2012 MSSCCI Provider. I've also mapped the project folders on my machine.
But when I try to open any project, it is giving the following error message:
And if I click on Yes, it shows:
If I say No for this second message, it opens the project without TFS connection. I can't check-out any file. I can just modify it and it will be saved locally.
When I'm outside of Robohelp project, means in the project folder, I can see all the project files are mapped and they have TFS check-in/check-out/Get latest.... all these options as shown below:
But when I open the project, I can't see the TFS option under file menu.
Please suggest if there is any solution...
    Thanks,
    Dipali

    Hi,
Just to be safe: Did you also install the VS 2012 Shell (Isolated) and the TFS plugin? As far as I know, you need the shell and the TFS provides apart from the MSSCCI provider. (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/robohelp/articles/robohelp-tfs-integration.html)
The interesting thing is not that the connection is lost, but that if you want to browse it, you don't see a browse page. Normally, RH would just show you a popup where you can select the project.
Now for some magic: **Note: I will describe how to manually change your source control link. Make sure that you have a backup apart from TFS, just in case.
    Check out the .XPJ file.
    Remove the .CPD file.
Open the .XPJ file with a text editor, such as Notepad.
    Search for the text <name>vc::cookie</name>
    <matchedpair>
          <name>vc::cookie</name>
          <value>$/BV - MVV/Main/Key2Vergunningen/Tools/Documentatie/mvv-gebruikers</value>
    </matchedpair>
Now get the path from the VS project ($/BV - MVV) and the full path to the folder in source control where the project is stored.
Set the complete path between the <value></value> tags.
    Save the .XPJ file.
    Open the project with RoboHelp.
You connection should now be restored. Note that if you make even a small mistake in the TFS project path, RoboHelp will not be able to find the project.
    Greet,
    Willam

  • RoboHelp 9 and IE10

I created an HTMLHelp project using RoboHelp 9 that is housed on a server here at the office. Users use a link to access the server and the help file. I am finding that the online help works fine on IE8, IE9 and Firefox...but does not work with IE10 (links within the help...whether on the TOC, Index or Search just take the user to a blank page).
It does work with IE10 when in compatibility mode...but unfortunately our software does not work properly when IE10 is in compatibility mode.
Does anyone know of a way to make online help projects created with RoboHelp 9 work with IE10...or do I need to upgrade to a newer version of RoboHelp?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the reply, Jeff.
Apologies...should have mentioned this was WebHelp. I did try to add the OLH's server to the list of trusted sites...but it didn't seem to make a difference.
It is really strange...the OLH initially displays without a problem and the welcome page displays just fine. I can see the TOC, the Index...I can do searches. However, once I click on another topic in the TOC or click on an index entry or click a search result, the area that shows the topic just goes blank. There is no error. It just doesn't display the topic.
The only workaround I see is to display the blank page and then right-click and select Encoding and then either Western European or UniCode UTF-8 and the topic displays. However, if I click the TOC for that very same topic that is now displaying, it goes blank until I select the Encoding option again. Very weird.
