Sickbeard fails to start. "Unable to write PID file" [Solved]

I've installed sickbeard from the AUR but can't seem to get it started.
when running "sudo systemctl start sickbeard.service" I get the following output:
Job for sickbeard.service failed. See 'systemctl status sickbeard.service' and 'journalctl -xn' for details.
'systemctl status sickbeard.service' provides:
sickbeard.service - SickBeard daemon

Feb 23 14:49:19 arch systemd[1]: Failed to start SickBeard daemon.
Feb 23 14:49:19 arch systemd[1]: Unit sickbeard.service entered failed state
And it looks like 'journalctl -xn' provides about the same info:

Feb 23 14:49:19 arch systemd[1]: Unit sickbeard.service entered failed state
Also, here is the current systemd file for sickbeard, if that helps:
[Unit]
Description=SickBeard daemon
After=network.target
[Service]
EnvironmentFile=/etc/conf.d/sickbeard
User=sickbeard
Group=sickbeard
ExecStart=/usr/bin/sickbeard --nolaunch --daemon --quiet --config "$SB_CONF" --datadir "$SB_DATA" --port "$SB_PORT" --pidfile=/run/sickbeard/sickbeard-8081.pid
Type=forking
TimeoutStopSec=20
PIDFile=/run/sickbeard/sickbeard-8081.pid
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
So I guess obviously the important part is "Unable to write PID file: No such file or directory [2]", but I'm not really sure what that means or how to fix it. I've played around with the PIDfile configuration for the systemd service (tried renaming from sickbeard to sickbeard-8081) but I always get the same error.
Any ideas?

The sabnzbd systemd unit file doesn't use a pidfile. Not sure why. It would make more sense there than it does for sickbeard, because IMHO sickbeard should run as the user who owns the target tv-series media folders. Using tmpfiles.d just causes a headache when you are going to update it using the AUR package.
I installed it once using sickbeard-git from AUR, changed the systemd unit file and /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/sickbeard.conf to match my user, chown -R'ed /opt/sickbeard, ran "pacman -R --dbonly sickbeard-git", and ever since use "git pull" to update. That also works directly from web interface.

  • Getting "Unable to write cache file" message in DW CS4

    I was having some issues with a Javascript message, so looking for possible solutions, I came across “Deleting a Corrupted Cache File” in the Index to Dreamweaver FAQ located on this forum. I decided to give it a shot and carefully followed the instructions on my Windows XP, deleting the suggested cache file in my Configuration folder. That didn’t help make my Javascript message go away, though I did eventually find a work-around for that issue.
    However, after deleting this cache file, I began to get the following message every time I close my program or change sites in local files, “Unable to write cache file ‘C:\Documents and Settings\...” the message ends with the site name and the extension .dws.  If I go to Manage Sites and turn off the Enable Cache button for that particular site, I no longer get the message. But if I turn the Enable Cache Button back on, I get the message again. It gives this same message for all the sites.
    I’m hoping others have had this issue and there is a simple fix. I can’t say for sure that deleting the cache file in the configuration folder caused this, but it was only after that I began noticing the problem, so it would make sense the two are likely related.
    Also, I wonder how important the cache is. I could just turn off the Enable Cache Button for all the sites as a work-around if there's no quick fix and if it’s no big deal.

    First of all, only delete cache files when DW is shutdown.
    Also, there are a few different caches. That article only addresses 1 of them. Take a look at this TechNote to be able to find the Site .dws cache files:

  • GW POA Can't write .pid file to var/run/novell/groupwise

    I'm running GW 8.0.2 HP2 on SLES 10, and just recently figured out after trying to set up a CRON job that I can't restart my POA without rebooting the server. When I run a rcgrpwise status, the POA shows as "unused." Running rcgrpwise stop or restart fails to stop the POA, though the domain goes up and down with no issue. I've checked my gwha.conf file, and everything appears to be in the correct case, and referencing the correct locations. The domain can create its .pid file in /var/run/novell/groupwise just fine.....
    I've read and followed the directions in the tid 7003322 (which sounded like a direct match for this issue), but when I edit the header for the POA an rcgrpwise status returns that it is "unable to check [@gw4post.poa]"
    The forum thread titled: "rcgrpwise status shows "unused", but it is running." also sounds like the same problem, but there was no resolution.
    Anyone have any ideas? Please let me know if I can provide any further informnation - I'm writing this at 0-dark-30 and probably left something out....
    Thanks,
    Stacey

    Okay, so your stuff looks good.
    Yes, when the system boots it's supposed to basically load/fire up the rcgrpwise script (more or less, but it reads the gwha.conf file)
    That is quite odd that if you bounce the server, it's fine.
    Greg is correct that the PID file(s) get written to the directory where your log files are at.
    Do you know where you log directories are at for the MTA/POA?
    They should be in diff. directories.
    Brief section from the docs:
    If you selected Launch GroupWise Agents on System Startup in the Installation program, the Installation program configured your system so that the agents start automatically each time you restart your server. The Agent Installation programs always creates a grpwise startup script in /etc/init.d for starting the agents, as described in Starting the Linux GroupWise Agents as Daemons. To enable automatic startup, the Agent Installation programs also create symbolic links named Snngrpwise in the rc3.d and rc5.d directories so that the agents load on restart into level 3 or 5, depending on the configuration of your Linux system. The value of nn is determined by the chkconfig command during installation so that the GroupWise agents are started in the proper sequence with other processes running on the server.
    When the grpwise script runs and starts the GroupWise agents, the agents read the agent startup files in /opt/novell/groupwise/agents/share to check for configuration information provided by startup switches. Because the --show switch cannot be used in the startup files, the agents do not run with server console interfaces when started automatically when the server restarts, unless you modify the gwha.conf file as described in Enabling the High Availability Service for the Linux GroupWise Agents.

    QuickTime has decided today that it will no longer launch. When I look at the message generated in Console it says:

    This has been happening since I updated my copy of Fetch. I have tried reinstalling QuickTime but it hasn't helped.
    I am running QuickTime Pro 7.1.6 with DivX and Flip4Mac, both of which were installed some time ago and everything has been running fine until this morning.

    Did you repair permissions & restart after the
    update?
    I tried repairing the permissions and QuickTime still failed to launch; however, I didn't think to restart the machine. But then I fired up TechTool and it found problems with the volume structure, repaired it, and all is good now. So I'm not sure if TechTool fixed the problem or if it was eventually restarting after repairing the permissions.

  • VM won't start, unable to mount VHD file

    Hello,
    Last night I powered off my Windows 8.1 Pro machine running Hyper-V and one of the virtual machines may have gotten forced down hard.  This morning when I tried to start it I am getting:
    BOOTMGR is missing
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
    My first suspicion was that the .VHD was corrupted and needed repairing.  In the VMware world I would mount the disk to another VM and use various tools on it (chkdsk, etc) I believe Windows actually makes this a little easier by allowing mounding of
    a .VHD within disk manger.  I mount the disk and see the following image:
    Although the size is correct the disk comes up as RAW (Which seems odd to this hyper-V newbie).  I am unable to explore the contents of the drive, I get the error "F:\ is not accessible.  The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."
    I have a crazy suspicion that the drive is still locked by Hyper-V as if it is still running.  Naturally I have confirmed the virtual machine appears offline.  Is it possible that some kind of lock was not fully released when the machine was powered
    off?  Any other troubleshooting tips I could try?

    Hi,
    I don’t found the similar issue, if you have the backup of this vm, you can try to recovery it ,then try to start it again, or you can try the following method for the further
    troubleshooting:
    Method 1:
    Backup this guest vm, use the VHD tool to fix that VHD.
    Method 2:
    Merge this vm checkpoint then try to start it again.
    The VHD Tools download:
    VHD tool

    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to write trace files in Background dump destination in oracle 10g

    Hi All,
    OS version : RHEL 5.7
    DB version : 10.2.0.4

    Today I faced a strange behaviour for one of our production database. Its a 2-node rac database. On the first node there is no auto generation of trace files in the BAckground dump destination. I am able to see trace files of second in its background dump dest. But the strange behaviour occurs on the first node. I see only Alert log file in the background dump dest . Inspite of getting an error which shows trace file generated but no file occurs in the bdump. The following is the error but physically there no trace file generated:

    We run into a strange problem today.
    We have a JWS based app which uses version jars. If we keep the Keep temporary files on my computer " checked in the Java settings the application works fine.
    However if we uncheck it then we get an error saying it can not find the jar:

    Should it work with "Keep Temp files on my computer" unchecked ?
    Thanks

    Guess you use proxy server.
    However firstly try Solution 1. If it does not work try 2.
    Solution 1
    1. Open Java control panel, goto "Advanced" tab
    2. In tree branch "Java plug-in" uncheck "Enable the next generation Java plug-in"
    3. Restart the browser if you launch your applet in browser.
    Solution 2
    1. Open Java control panel, goto "Advanced" tab
    2. In tree branch "Security" check "Use SSL 2.0 compatible ClientHello format"
    3. Restart the browser if you launch your applet in browser.

    We have raised the SR with ORACLE, after uploading the trace & alert log, reply from oracle as follows:
    Generic Note
    I couldn't find any issue in the trace file.
    I think you need to open a ticket to the O/S vendor to identify which process is locking the file.
    ====================================================================================
    We have move the database from F: to G:, problem got resolved, but we cant keep the database in G: for more time as the space issue, We have to move the database back to F: , and we are facing the issue on F:
    can any body help, how to monitor the windows process locking the database files,
    or the utility that can log the errors at the same time when database goes down.
    Thanks,

    Hello,
    You can have a look to the windows Event Viewer, see if something happens around 03:30.
    Do you have an antivirus on your server ?
    At what time does your backup run ?
    Regards,
    Sylvie

  • Insufficient quota - unable to write to controlfile

    I am getting what is probably a typical error using Ora9.201 on Windows 2000 Server. It seems to happen after reboots - rendering Oracle Unavailable.
    From trace file...
    ORA-00221: error on write to controlfile
    ORA-00206: error in writing (block 3, # blocks 1) of controlfile
    ORA-00202: controlfile: 'C:\ORACLE\ORADATA\ORA9201\CONTROL03.CTL'
    ORA-27072: skgfdisp: I/O error
    . repeats this for each of my other 2 controlfiles
    OSD-04008: WriteFile() failure, unable to write to file
    O/S-Error: (OS 1453) Insufficient quota to complete the requested service.
    Restarting in the Service Manager clears it up, but I would like to understand what is going on here.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    If all your controlfiles are damaged you have to use the option befored mentioned by me:
    CREATE CONTROLFILE
    Caution:
    Oracle recommends that you perform a full backup of all files in the database before using this statement. For more information, see Oracle9i User-Managed Backup and Recovery Guide.
    Purpose
    Use the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement to re-create a control file in one of the following cases:
    All copies of your existing control files have been lost through media failure.
    You want to change the name of the database.
    You want to change the maximum number of redo log file groups, redo log file members, archived redo log files, datafiles, or instances that can concurrently have the database mounted and open.
    Note:
    If it is necessary to use the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement, do not include in the DATAFILE clause any datafiles in temporary or read-only tablespaces. You can add these types of files to the database later.
    An alternative to the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement is ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE, which generates a SQL script in the trace file to re-create the controlfile. If your database contains any read-only or temporary tablespaces, that SQL script will also contain all the necessary SQL statements to add those files back into the database.

  • Unable to find/read file META-INF/ra.xml

    When using the oc4j_admin_client to deploy an ear to a oas cluster I get this error, but only sometimes. I cannot find anything on the web that explains what might be causing this to occur. I'm guessing it might be with the configuration of OAS but even so I have no idea where to look. If anyone out there can give some advice it would help. Thanks,

    Hi forum-hog,
    I think this is due to a known product defect. The patch is available and can be downloaded and installed.
    Please try the following:
    1) Download and apply patch 9073284
    2) Perform the deployment again
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,

    My iTunes stopped working at this time.  I thought I could delete iTunes and start over. This tactic did not work.
    Can anyone make sense of what I am saying and help me to get my iTunes back again?

    Try a more recent version of my advice. The "for older video cards version" may work when the default version doesn't.
    For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
    The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
    The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
    Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
