Sony GV-HD700 wont capture

No matter what combo of settings I use, I can not get Final Cut to capture HD footage off the Sony GV-HD700 deck. I have tried several coronations of setting on both the deck and FCP 6 and nothing works. Any ideas?

Yes on all three. I have set the capture preset to all the HDV settings I have, and have used the all the HDV firewire control settings, including the sony ones. It will control the deck, but it wont preview and when I hit capture now or set an in and out point, it wont capture. It says that there is no data. I have also unplugged the firewire and changed the iLink settings on the deck. Neither on or off work. I have also changed the HDV settings to Auto and HDV and nothing.

Wont capture n Widescreen 16:9

I have a Sony DCR-PC55E that wont capture in 16:9.
I start a new project, select DV widescreen but I get a 4:3 area appear in iMovie.
When I play back my footage its all squashed, iMovie then performs letterboxing after its captured making my 16:9 squashed to 4:3 have black bars on it!!!
How can I capture my footage at 16:9?
The same process has been tried on two G5's with iLife 06 and using two different cameras the other being a semi pro Cannon, with each setup we get the same results - all footage is in Pal format.

I understand that clearly and did it but my problem is i have saved the project in NTSC mode and widescreen before and want to add more clips into the project. But when i plugin my handycam and switch imovie to camera mode, it says:
"Incompatible Camera Video Format
The attached camera uses a different video format than your project's format. To use this camera, disconnect any other tape-based cameras, then create a new, empty project. "
But first project was made with the same handycam, same mini dv casette and same settings i really dont get it. I tired to do it in a new project with DV-Widescreen mode, when i switch on my camera it goes back to PAL and images seems longer. i will watch with a widescreen enabled television, maybe this problem doesnt make any difference i dont know.

Sony GV-HD700 issue

I'm having issues with FCP using the Sony GV-HD700 for video playback. I cannot get it to run as an HD playback device. DV seems to work ok, but the options for HDV are all grayed out.
My sequence preset is: HDV-1080i60
Capture preset is: HDV
Device Control Preset is: Sony HDV firewire
I'm trying to use a firewire connection. On the deck itself my settings look correct.
I've set the HDV/DV Sel to HDV. My i.link conv. is turned off, and my A/V-DV out setting is turned off.
I've tried handfuls of settings and have not had success yet.
Any ideas?

To view HDV on an external monitor you are going to need to purchase a capture card, like the ones Decklink (www.decklink.com) or AJA (www.aja.com) offer. They will both play out HDV in real time. The catch is that you cannot view this on a regular TV or NTSC monitor. Since this is HD, an HD monitor will be needed. HOWEVER, both cards are capable of down converting the signal so that it can be displayed on an SD monitor. This won't be color accurate
HDV cannot be played out of FCP via Firewire because it's Long GOP structure is too taxing on your processors to spare the system resources needed to drive an external monitor.
The best option you have is the Matrox MXO...$1000. This coupled with an Apple 23" display gets you color correction quality...but, it isn't compatible with COLOR yet. www.matrox.com
And there are the Decklink Intensity and Intensity PRO cards as well.
You can view HDV out firewire as DV...as stated in page 220 of the manual:
"For example, you can preview a 720p30 HDV sequence via an NTSC DV FireWire device
connected to an external monitor. The output signal is letterboxed and downconverted
to NTSC video. You can also use a third-party interface to view any format supported by
Final Cut Pro—as long as the frame rate of your clip or sequence matches the frame
rate of your current output device."
But I haven't a clue how to get that to work. Manual doesn't say as far as I can tell. THis is for external viewing only...not good for color correction.

Sony GV-HD700 Output problems

I've been trying to Print to Video for days now. Does anyone have a definitive answer on this mystery? I can successfully capture material in both DV and HDV, though in HDV the frame size of my clips is still 720x480 even though I set it up for 1440x1080 in the presets, but I can't Print to Video in either of the formats.
My deck settings are....
HDV/DV SEL: HDV
DV Rec Mode: SP
Component: 1080i/480i
i.LINK Conv: On
TV Type: 4:3
A/V to DV Out: On
My FCP Audio / Video Settings are....
Seq. Preset: HDV-1080i60
Capture Preset: HDV
Device Control Preset: Sony HDV FireWire
Video Playback: None ( but I can change without affecting ability to capture. )
Audio Playback: Default ( but I can change without affecting ability to capture. )
Under A/V Devices tab I have selected.....
Different Output for Edit to Tape/Print to Video
Video: HDV (1440x1080) 60i
Audio: HDV
After trying several other combinations the system seems to take control of the deck, rolls tape, transcodes or conforms to HDV, transfers to deck or camera, but nothing actually records on the tape.
Can anyone help?

The specs listed on B & H note that one cannot transfer HDV720p/30 via firewire, but the comments on the same site regarding the recorder in question seem to rebut this. I've since read a suggestion about defeating the down-convert option on the deck, so that FCP, which is expecting to capture HDV based on my capture settings, will recognize what's coming through the firewire. I'm wondering if I'll be able to control the deck through the capture window, or just start tape and capture now. Thoughts? Thanks very much!

Intermittant problems recognizing my Sony video camera when capturing

When filming live, I have an intermittant problem with PPro 6 recognizing my Sony video camera when capturing. I hit the G (for start recording) and something it goes live and sometime the capture window goes to digital mess. I am using the "no" device control preference setting as I was told to by the Sony customer care tech.
Has anyone had a similar problem?

Sony TRV70 wont capture

I am having trouble capturing with my Sony TRV70 to FCE 4. Whenever I try and bring up the Capture window i get a message saying "unnable to initialize HDV deck". I cant figure it out, and i have been trying to find answers all night.

The above warning suggests the current setup/Sequence is for HDV capture.
DV capture will not workin this mode.
As Bengt W suggests, change the Easy Setup to DV-PAL or DV-NTSC (depending on the video standard of the camera) before starting a New Project so the NEW SETTINGS are applied to the Sequence you will work with.
Do you know if the footage from your camera is 12 or 16 bit audio?
Also is it Widescreen or 4:3 aspect ratio?

How does everyone hook up there Sony Beta Deck to capture in FCP?

I have a Sony Betacam SP UVW1800 and I am wondering how you hook it up to a Powermac G5 so I can start capturing some footage ... I am assuming that I need to get some kind of converter to firewire. Any suggestions??

I use an AJA Io for uncompressed capture, and I think it is really great. It does a fantastic job with the transcoding to any SD format and has been pretty much bulletproof. I would concur with Greg Jio that AJA's technical support is excellent. I have had highly educational exchanges with then evey time I have needed support.
As far as a solution that provides component input and RS-422 deck control, it's the only one I have experience with, but I highly recommend AJA solutions.
Keep in mind that working with uncompressed video requires fast drives and more stoarge space. I use a FW 800 external RAID, or an internal SATA RAID, and have heard that uncompressed will also work fine on "soft RAIDs" such as you can create by simply formatting a set of drives inside your Mac Pro case without a dedicated RAID controller card.

Audio wont capture

i am trying to digitise some footage off a hi 8 camera through a canopus device and it has stopped capturing the audio for some reason, it did do with and earlier batch, but for some reason it has stopped?
Is there any settings i could look at?

All I know is that it is a 3CCD Sony Camera that takes 184 DV Cam Tapes.
I havnt messed with any settings on the camera itself yet as it has been loaned to me whilst I'm capturing.
But the settings I have on final cut are Firewire PAL and DV PAL which I thought was right. As I said the timecode does register on the preview but there is no audio or visual to be captured.

Wont capture

I have 300 GB available on my scratch disk. The easy setup is correct for the material I have, HDV-1080i60, and the camera, a Sony HDR1. The camera is showing ok in Log and Capture, and when I click Now, it shows that it's capturing. But when it stops, there's no clip, and none in the finder.
What am I doing wrong?

Sony Hdr-V1U - 24a capture

I set my Sony HDR-V1u To 24a capture instead of 24. This puts gaps in the time code. When I capture in FCP 7, though the tape is playing continuously, FCP pauses between breaks looking for time codes and its missing the beginning of each of the clips. IS there a setting so that it bypasses the time codes and captures everything? I did set ignore breaks, but that did not do anything. It still missed some of the beginning clips footage.

Question: Using Adobe Premiere CS3 and a Sony GV-HD700

My name is Gerry and I am new to the forum. My problem is as follows: I have my Sony player connected via USB2 to my workstation. I am using widows xp sp3 and the device is properly recognized. When I choose capture in Premiere I recieve a message stating that the device is off-line. I power it on and off, but I am not able to see footage in the capture window. My settings are as follows:
Capture settings = Capture Format : HDV
DV/HDV Device Control
Video Standard: NTSC
Device Brand: Sony
Device Type: GV-D300 * I do not see my device type listed in the drop down list
Timecode Format: Auto Detect
Check Status: Offline
The only options I have tried changing is the Device type, also changing the device control from Serial device control to DV/HDV Device Control.
Any direction in this matter will be appreciated.

The Sony HDV700 will work with CS3 via firewire. Settings on the deck and in CS3 are important.
The HDV700 is too new to have its own settings. Select "Generic Sony," that works for me.
DO NOT set the HDV700 format to AUTO--set it manually to either DV or HDV depending on the tape format. Note also, that its often necessary to turn off the deck and turn it back on before the change is recognized by the PC.
You DO NOT selct serial control--you select Firewire or IEEE (I forget what the option is labeled.
Use the pre-assigned option in setting the sequence parameters (yeah, I know, you're capturing to the project window not the timeline, but this is where CS3 gets the capture settings.)

Sony xperia z1 wont turn on completly after rebuild

Hi! I really need your help guys!I have a Xperia Z1. The other day i decided to change the screen and the back part (glass) and the frame, so almost the whole phone. Now when im done it wont turn on, but when i put the charger on the screen lights up with the sony logo, then it shows me the battery logo and then it turns off. I cant do anything. No hard reset, nothing. I cant connect it to PC companion because it cant connect. What is wrong?

Sony GV-HD700 HD Video Walkman

Sony's relatively new offering, the GV-HD700, looks like it might make a good feeder deck for editing HDV/DV. Has anyone had an opportunity to road test this unit? Thoughts/Comments?

Ron: My experience with previous generation DV walkmans is that they work perfectly as feeders, but the mechanism (which really is consumer grade) simply can't stand the wear. I have a ruined GVD-300 in my desk that broke a few times until it was damaged beyond repair. Just from normal use. DSR-11s DVCAM decks didn't exist at the time, but every unit I used since then seems to keep going like Duracell rabits. These things are designed for business/medical presentations, rather than being controlled remotely by a computer all day. When Sony puts a pro label on a deck, even if the features are similar, it simply is way more robust. And it may be less expensive in the long run.

Sony HD Camera as capturing device

I am trying to capture an mini HDV tape by using my Sony A1 to play out onto final cut pro. However, final cut is not recognizing the A1 as a capturing device. A friend of mine suggested to change the Audio/Video settings in final cut, but that still hasn't worked and they don't seem to stay set anyway.
I am new to using Final Cut (former AVID user) and am still unsure about the various settings. I will be fine with final cut's interface, I just need the capturing tool to work! I would really appreciate someone's help. x

1st, have the camera powered "on" BEFORE you launch FCP. then choose an "easy setup" to match how you recorded to tape on the A1; ie: HDV-1080i60 Firewire Basic. this is what I use for my FX1. I would guess it is the same for your A1.
