Static on video when added to timeline

Hi all,
I'm having quite an annoying problem. I am working on a project which is almost completely stop-motion. Each frame was captured in a separate frame-grabbing program and organized into different scenes. These scenes were imported into Final Cut and I have begun editing them.
However, when I add two specific clips to the timeline, I get a lot of static on just certain portions of these clips. I watch them in the Viewer and there is no static, I watch them separately as QuickTime movies (using QuickTime Player) and there is no static - only when I add them to the timeline.
At one point I was playing around with filters and suddenly the static was gone on one clip. However, shortly thereafter it reappeared and cutting/pasting the filters back onto the clip did nothing.
If you have any information that might help, it would be very much appreciated!!
Thanks in advance.

All the imported animation clips are classified as "Animation" under the Compressor line.
Not sure which settings you wanted me to post from the Settings window, but the QuickTime Video Setting is DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, Quality: 100%, and:
Frame Size: 720 x 480, Aspect Ratio: NTSC DV (3:2)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC - CCIR 601 / DV (720x480)
Field Dominance: Lower (Even)
Editing Timebase: 29.97
Let me know if you need anything else.

  • Volume doesn't come with video when dropped into timeline (CS3)

    when I click the "insert" button in the Source window to drop a defined video segment into the timeline, all of a sudden the audio doesn't come with it.  It was but now it doesn't.  I was messing with the link/unlink for other clips in the timeline but I"m not sure how that relates to dropping segments in the timeline and why the audio doesn't come with it.

    This was driving me nuts.  I started a new sequence and it worked there.  I went back to my original sequence and it still wouldn't drop in the audio yet I could copy and paste the audio AND video from the new sequence into the old.  It turns out that somehow I was able to (not intentionally) make no audio track active in my first sequence and when I used the insert button it didn't bring the audio.  But if I clicked on the source video and dragged it to the timeline both audio and video came to the timeline.  Once I highlited the audio channel the little insert button worked.
    This drove me nuts.

  • Video doesn't slow when added to timeline of different frame rate

    I'm having trouble understanding what's going on here.  I have a video shot at 59.94 fps, and I add it to a sequence that is set at 29.97 fps.  It plays back normally which makes sense if premiere is dropping frames by 1/2, but the drop frame indicator says that it isn't dropping frames.  The clip also runs the same length.  The interpret frame rate for the clip in the project window says 59.94 fps, so if it's added to a sequence that is set at 29.97 fps and it's NOT dropping frames, shouldn't it be slowed down?

    OK cool thank you very much.  So I've been doing some research to figure out the best way to edit this project.  The problem is that I have some GoPro videos shot at 1080X1920 and 59.94 fps and some at 480X840 and 240 fps.  But the catch is I want to make the final product work well for Youtube.  This is how I feel I should go about getting the best quality for my final video.
    1.  Set the sequence settings to 720X1280 (which is what I will export as so that the 480X840 doesn't loose as much quality compared to having to resize up to 1080X1920 to match the other clips).  I don't think there's much quality loss in down-scaling the 1080X1920 to 720X1280 (if any, or is there?), so it's kind of a happy medium for both frame sizes that I have and it's still good for Youtube.
    2.  Apparently Youtube really works well with 29.97 fps, so this is what I will set the sequence frame rate at.
           **Another side question I have is what if my sequence frame rate is set at 29.97fps and I interpret the frame rate of a 59.94fps clip as 29.97fps and add it to the sequence.  Now if I use the rate stretch tool to speed up the now slowed down clip to 200% so that it plays at normal speed.  Will Premiere remove frames to speed up the clip or does it really increase the rate of the frames so that I don't loose any frames?**  My guess is if I export at 29.97fps it will remove half of the frames.
    Is it not possible to have an exported movie clip that contains multiple frame rates?

  • Footage becoming grainy when added to Timeline

    Newbie here.
    I recently switched cameras from a Sony handycam to a Nikon 5D100.
    Looking at the footage in the viewer it's crisp and clear, but when I put it on the timeline it becomes blurry and grainy.
    I converted the footage from a .mov to .mp4 thinking FCE didn't like the Nikon 5D100 format, but I'm having this issue with both formats.
    Any suggestions?

    The reason the video becomes blurry is that your source media (from the camera) does not match your FCE sequence settings (easy setup).   FCE is designed only for certain video codecs, specifically QuickTime/DV and QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec.
    When you capture video directly from a camcorder, FCE can ingest DV, AVCHD and HDV video.  DV video is directly imported into QT/DV clips; but in the high-def (AVCHD/HDV) capture process, FCE converts AVCHD and HDV video to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec (QT/AIC).
    If you don't capture directly from a camcorder you have to make sure your video clips conform to QT/DV or QT/AIC before using them in Final Cut Express.
    The D5100 records video as H.264 but it's NOT AVCHD.   You need to convert these clips to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec before importing them into FCE.    Use either MPEG Streamclip or Clipwrap to convert the video.
    In FCE you need to use one of the AVCHD Easy Setups that matches how you shot the video in your DSLR, for example 1920x1080i30.   (Note that FCE does not support 24fps, and the only mode in which it supports progressive video is 720p)

  • Sequence Settings message when adding LT clip

    I was one who took the plunge with QT 7.4.5.
    I'm running FCP 6.0 on OS 10.5.2
    I found upon importing a rendered Livetype clip that when adding to timeline it shows this message:
    <Warning This clip does not match this sequence's settings or any of your sequence presets
    For best performance your sequence and External Video should be set to the format of the clips you are editing.
    Change sequence settings to match the clip settings.?>
    If I say no, it needs to be rendered. If I say yes it adds to the timeline without needing rendering.
    BUT...THen any other previous clips added from the project force the above message.
    I am wondering what in my preferences are being affected and what is a good workaround?
    Perhaps just adding and re-rendering in FCP?
    Thanks!

    Duh..I was looking in preferences, and now I vaguely remember this menu.
    Thanks ThrillCat!!

    PE-11: when adding music to a program the video splits and if it is dragged back together the music splits.
    How can I get around this problem?

    Glenda,
    As a test, try dragging, while holding the Ctrl/Cmd modifier key, that "music" to Audio Track 2, and the "bird sounds" SFX file to Audio Track Audio Track 3. There have reports from other users, where the Fixed Audio Tracks, Narration and Soundtrack have caused problems. Those problems seem to be Project-specific. If your Timeline does not have Audio Tracks 1 - 3 already, you can use Add Tracks. The use of the Ctrl/Cmd key, changes how PrE handles existing files on the Timeline, when adding Assets. This usually comes into play, when one is adding Video, or Stills, and should not really affect those, when only adding Audio, but remember, this is only a test.
    Good luck,

  • When adding soundtracks it creates a gap in the video

    There are times when adding music to the soundtrack that it causes other media such as photos, audio, narration to be pushed out on the timeline so there is a gap between the video.  I do a delete and close gaps.  I re-try to upload the music to the soundtrack and sometimes it is placed properly and some times it still causes a gap in the video.  Please advise on what I need to do to fix this.

    This ARTICLE will give you tips on adjusting Volume in Audio.
    When an audio file is playing, the soundtrack in the background does NOT lower.  The background soundtrack does lower when narration is playing.  Why doesn't it work when audio clips are playing?  How do I set this easily?
    If you have done no Volume adjustments, then the Narration and the Soundtrack should maintain their original Levels, unless there is some new added "feature." If there is a new feature, then I am sure that Steve will educate me.
    As it's easy to adjust the Volume in several ways, I would not really want a program to try and do it for me.
    Also, some users have had issues with the two fixed Audio Tracks, Soundtrack and Narration, and in nearly every case, the fix was to just use a "regular" empty Audio Track, instead of one of those.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

    Hi
    A. I don't know
    B. BUT it happens to me to and my strategy is
    - to add new material beyond the end of all material in TimeLine
    - then move it into place.
    This also happens to me when adding Video to another track ==> all splits - but by first add it beyond the end and move it into place always works.
    But to be able to put it (Video, Photos and Audio) into right place directly would have been great.

    Thanks for the follow up.
    Missing in this equation were the version of Premiere Elements that you were using and the computer operating system on which it was running. But...
    The deed is done. But.....Until now and after you went ahead and moved to version 12, we now learn what version of Premiere Elements you were using. We still do not know the computer operating system involved.
    You just said Premiere Elements 10. Premiere Elements 10 is hit by a serious known display issue if the computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card. In this issue, the only remedy is to roll back the driver version to about May 2013. The description of the problem and how to do the roll back are described in one of the Announcements at the top of this forum. What video card/graphics card does your computer use?
    On another front, Adobe will be releasing a new version of Premiere Elements any day now. No one but Adobe knows the feature set for the new version. That type of information is announced at the moment of release of the new version.
    So the remedy to the problem that you presented in this thread could have been...
    1. Rolling back the NVIDIA GeForce driver version to about May 2013 if possible (Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit, may not be possible)
    2. Move to another version of Premiere Elements (which you did)
    I offer the above for consideration so that you can review your decisions. We are pleased to learn that Premiere Elements 12/12.1 works for you.
    Please do not hesitate to ask questions and ask for clarifications, but remember that the answers are in the details.
    Best wishes,
    ATR

HELP!! any ideas?
    I did not nest any clips or sequences, premiere just seemed to combine the clips under one name when I moved them to timeline.

    When adding a mp4 videos as a slide, what should quality be changed to? (Optimized, J-Peg or High 24-bit)
    What will this do?
    Thanks,

    Himanshu, if loading a video on a slide, would the slide quality setting for that slide have any effect at all? It's my own understanding that the videos are always separate and loaded when needed. So I'm curious if the slide quality would remotely matter in this case.

  • When video ends go to timeline label

    Hi Everyone
    I am using this code to play a video when a user clicks on a button:
    function clicked(event:MouseEvent):void {
    var video:Video = new Video();
    addChild(video);
    var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
    nc.connect(null);
    var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
    ns.client = {onMetaData:ns_onMetaData, onCuePoint:ns_onCuePoint};
    video.attachNetStream(ns);
    ns.play("video.flv");
    function ns_onMetaData(item:Object):void {
    trace("metaData");
    video.width = item.width;
    video.height = item.height;
    video.x = (stage.stageWidth - video.width) / 2;
    video.y = (stage.stageHeight - video.height) / 2;
    When the video ends I want to go to another part of the timeline. How can I do this?
    Hope someone can help!
    Many thanks!

    Many thanks Andrei!! that did the trick! (sorry Andrei I was meant to mark your reply as the correct answer!)

  • How do I keep FCP from auto-distorting my video when I drag it into the timeline?

    FCP keeps auto distorting my video when I drag it into the timeline. It keeps setting the motion aspect ratio to -12.5, then when I set it to 0 and render, the video has lost significant quality even though I have my motion render settings to: best. I figure it is this motion distort which is ruining my quality on render because the avi from the camera is ridiculously clean and un-pixelated. How do I keep FCP from auto-distorting my video? It makes no sense that it does, because at -12.5 aspect ratio, FCP is creating a letterbox for my video. I just want the video to fill the entire canvas that I chose! There must be a setting somewhere that I have missed, but I cannot figure it out for the life of me. Please help!
    I have a video shot on my Pentax K-r that is 1280x 720p 25fps. When run it in quicktime pro, the inspector affirms this sizing. And in QTpro there is no letterbox present when the original is played.
    In FCP I have the sequence settings at:
    HDTV 720p (16:9) (which is 1280 720)
    Timebase: 25
    I have tried to turn anamorphic on, then off in the clip format settings, and also turn the anamorphic on and off in the sequence settings. No combination seems to correct the problem.
    Any help is appreciated. Thank you,
    ML

    Hi I have done some more digging and found this:
    1) In the bottom left corner of FCPX, click the film reel so that you can see all your projects:
    2) Select the project you are having problems with and then in the inspector window, click on the spanner icon in the lower right side:
    3) Finally a window appears so that you can choose the settings for the video you are using:
    Hope that helps
