Target SNR reset request

After the BT outage a couple of weeks ago I noticed a significant drop in the speed of my broadband connection. It was a little unstable for a few days. The line has now stabilised but my noise margin is now at 12db. I am quite a distance from the exchange but can usually sync at 3.5mb.
At the same time as the BT outage there were also some engineers working on a nearby pumping station which has been the source of REIN for us in the past. I am not sure what caused the instability.
Can I request a target SNR reset? I saw some other threads stating to contact the mods from a link in their profile but I cannot see it (only a PM button). Current stats from the router below.
Thanks.
Mark.

  • Target SNR reset

I have had some REIN problems on my line due to a neighbours treadmill.  All sorted now and have had a stable connection for over 3 days.  Just wondered if/how I can contact the Mods to get a target SNR reset on my line?  Stats from router below (doesn't report up-time).  Also a graph from Routerstats showing my very steady noise margin.
    Thanks,

  • Help neighbour get an SNR reset

    Hi,
I have been helping a neighbour (who is not very technically minded) get her broadband connection to work better.  She used to use microfilters, and plug in her Home Hub via an extension lead every time she wanted to use the internet.
I explained that she should have an ADSL Faceplate, forget the extension lead, move the Home Hub to the lounge, get a USB wireless adapter and go wireless.
I have now done all this for her, and her connection speed went up from about 1.8Mbps to about 2.1Mbps.  However, due to her extension lead, and all the unplugging and plugging in, her target SNR is 12db.  I would now like to request a Target SNR reset, so that she should then connect at around 3Mbps, which is more normal in this locality.
Please can anyone advise what I should do to help her?  Is it going to be best to phone BT, or would she be able to contact the mods and refer to this thread?
Any advice would be most welcomed, as she doesn't fancy trying to phone BT without at least some help.
    Regards,
    Nigel.

    Hi DavidM,
Please could you clarify a few things for me?
    1) Roughly how long should the target SNR take to recover?
    2) If the exchange decides to reduce the target SNR, does that automatically cause a resync? If not, how would we know that the target SNR has dropped unless we do a resync?
    3) If I post my neighbours stats, can you proceed with a reset if that is what she would like?
    Regards,
    Nigel.
1/ Recovery is not exact, dynamic line management (DLM) keeps a historic record of your lines performance and adjustments are made based on this.  Three days is normally what we normally look for as evidence of good stability.
2/ Yes, your hub will resync.
3/ Post the stats and we'll see what needs to be done.
    Cheers

  • How do I get a modorator to reset my target SNR

At approx 11.30 on 3.5.11 my line continuously dropped and re-established connection for about 20-30 mins (each time synchronising at circa 4800kbps and SNR of 6.0).
By 5.5.11, the (target) SNR had risen to 9db and the line was synching between 3700 and 4200kbps.
On Saturday 7.5.11 I spoke to customer support who reset target snr margin to 6 and line synched at >4800kbps. Unfortunately, in the evening, target snr margin was at 12db with synch between 2800-3500kbps. It has been like this ever since.
I have asked for target snr to be reset to 6db almost every day since then with assurances that it will happen. It hasn't (even when put through to UK help team last night). My line has operated perfectly well for the past 3 years at target snr of 6db. I know both from previous dealings with BT and from these community support forums that BT Wholesale can manually change target SNR to the default of 6th either by a team leader talking to them or a forum moderator instigating the change.
Unless this change is made, I will not achieve the synch speed I know is possible. How do I get a modorator to reset my target SNR back to 6db?

    welcome to the forum
have you found the cause of all your reset problems which resulted in your increase in noise margin and reduction in speed?  If you get the noise margin dropped to normal 6 and the noise problem is still there then in a few days maybe even sooner you will be back with a noise problem of 12 again
has you connection been stable with noise margin of 12 or has it still been resetting.
you can email the mods  by completing the form http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
may take a few days for the mods to get back to you.
it would help your case if you psot you adsl stats showiing your stable connection

  • Default Target SNR Margin

I was wondering if I could request that the MODS can arrange for my default SNR margin to be decreased back to the default 6dB.  After their help via this forum at the beginning of the year I have experienced a stable connection at 6dB for 50days+ without any resets but during early June the power adapter on my router intermittently failed (sparking sounds) which caused my router to power-cycle thus, I guess, forcing the exchange kit to increase my SNR up to the current level of 9bB.  Having now fixed the fault with my router I have currently been constantly synced for 13.5 days but the target SNR has not reverted back to 6dB.  As my line length is getting on for 6km from the exchange I am lucky to get 2.4meg downstream at 6dB but now that I am forced to 9dB then the speed has reduced to 2meg.  The difference may appear a small one to most but in my case this has a significant negative effect on my ability to use TV on demand, etc.
The stats are shown below.  The connection is really stable at both 6 and 9db.  I would just like to see the 6bB target reinstated please.  It's also worth noting that due to the high attenuation, interleaving has always been forced on by the exchange and this certainly improved things but for some reason the systems have recently switched interleaving off so I am now on fast path and I guess this also demonstrates that I experiencing a reasonable stable connection time.
Is there any particular algorithm used by the exchange kit to automatically reinstate things like the target SNR or interleving status on a connection?

  • Recovery of speed/target SNR margin after resoluti...

I have had a line fault on my phone line (noise due to a damaged pair near the exchange) for the last couple of months until I finally got around to getting this fixed. This had resulted in many many frequent disconnections of the ADSL rounter and as a result the target SNR margin for the service currently seems to be somewhere around 12. Since the line has been fixed (perfectly clear phone line now) I was hoping that either a) BT could manually reset the target SNR margin or b) failing that the recovery would not take too long. I raised a fault and was informed that "something has been done" but there was no evidence of this. Having been away on business for the last week I thought I would see what happened over this time but it seems that after a week of no disconnections on the router the synchronisation speed still has not improved. Here is the current status of the ADSL connection

21CN adsl2+ connections can suffer profoundly from banded profiling.
If the line has seen frequent problems, as is the case, it may take from 3-5 days to see an improvement.
The dynamic line management of 21CN pays a lot of credence to connection history, and coming out of banded profiles can often be lengthy. Your connection even though now fixed has to recover, unfortunately your throughput for the BRAS profile, something totally different ... is not good.
You can either wait and look for improvement over the next few days .... or drop an email in to the moderators.
They can get the banded profiling lifted ... and see how you go.
I'm a little surprised it wasn't requested after the line repair, sometimes it is .... sometimes not.
The noise margin at 12db is not too bad, but should get better with time, if BTw don't reset it.

  • Line target SNR gone from 6 to 9 to 12 and now 15d...

Having connected reliably and almost constantly at 7616 (target SNR 6db) and stayed good for the best part of a year my line is playing up again.
Its gradually stepped from 6db through to 15db over the last two weeks and of course the speed and IP profile are going down the pan too.
I've checked all the usual stuff in the house and tried a substitute router all to no avail.
Now the last time we had this problem it took nearly 2 years to convince BT that it was actually a fault on the line and not the line length! They did eventually fix it (old corroded connectors in a green box) when a mod here forwarded my posts to the 'twitter team'
Is there any chance you could do that again please?
    Thanks

    Thanks
    OK here they are:
You will see that the IP profile hasn't dropped to 4000 yet as the target SNR only went to 15db and the connection speed to 4864 this morning, but when it does the throughput will of course be even slower at about 3700.
Checking my router stats light log I see that it all started to deteriorate on the 30th of May.

  • Snr reset needed ?

Until recently, I used to sync at over 10Mbps but then my line deteriorated to the point where I had difficulty using the phone due to crackling. FInally, a couple of weeks ago, it got to the point where callers were unable to connect, getting a message stating that there was a fault. This lasted a few days. Presumably, someone did something to clear the fault, as the crackling has now vanished and the line is perfectly quiet.
Unfortunately, my Broadband speed is a casualty in all this, being now just 3Mbps downstream.
    Here are my stats :

  • Getting the Intended Target for a Request

I now know how to set the target for a response:
    HttpServletResponse.setHeader("Window-target","myFrameName")
My next question is how do I determine the intended target of the initial request, before I set it to something else with the above code? It doesn't seem to be in the header parameter list. Is there another source?

There's no way to get the initial target from the request. That information isn't sent by the browser. :-/
I didn't even know you could force the response to go in another window from the server-side. Most of the time, you know which window it's going to already, so you have the HTML <form> specify target="myFrameName", which forces the whole request to occur in another window.

  • Error Message SCCM 2012 ERROR: Unable to access target machine for request

Should I be concerned with this message, or will it resolve on its own?

No, this is nothing to be concerned with. Assuming you have auto-client push enabled, it will try to push the client agent to a resource without the agent every hour for 7 days. Thus, after the 7 day period expires from the last time it was discovered,
it won't try to push to this system anymore.

I can't remember my security question for my Apple ID. But when I press "send reset request to email" my email won't recieve it. What should I do?

Wait a few hours and check the spam filter. If you still don't get it, ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • Target SNR moved from 6.0dB to 9.0dB due to a one-...

Last night there was some very strange interference that was causing TV signal issues, radio issues and affected the ADSL line stability. I can't see how many times I reconnected but actually it doesn't look like many at all. CRC errors are low and interleaving is off (which needs to stay off for gaming).
However, as a result, my target SNR has moved to 9.0dB.
The interference has now gone. I tried calling for help, went through to India. They gave me some explanation that my line was "being monitored" and if it was stable they will switch it back to 6.0dB in about 24 hours. Somehow I don't believe anyone is actually watching my line and I will probably be stuck at 9.0dB unless some intervenes.
Any ideas how I actually get this sorted out?
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

    Thanks for the replies!
I have no problem waiting for 3-5 days and I will resist the temptation to reboot the hub in the meantime!
The difference means I lose the top 1 meg of throughput. So its not a huge hit, but, like many, I want the fastest I can have as I download a lot.

  • Can i have my snr reset back to 8 or 9db please

Hi i have emailed the mods many times concerning this matter can i please have my snr reset back to its optimum 6 or 9db i have had a steady stable speed now and would like it reset back to what it was please. If for any reason you wont can i please have an explanation to why as i havent recieved one yet many thanks.

@ rodger i believe it was a hub fault at first then too many resets on my part from swapping hubs over and being impatient (had to learn the hard way!). Advice from you guys would be great though. I am considering buying a new router where i can use the dgt firmware to lower it gradually myself or maybe getting a bt business 2700 as ive herd they can hold the snr on long lines. I was syncing at 3.4 minimum so ive lost 1 mb in speed and that was stable since my line was up and running untill i had a hub issue. Maybe i need to wait longer but noone is telling me anything concerning it. So some advice would go a long way

  • Noise issue + DNS Reset request

Below is a link to a screeshot demonstring ADSL stats and uptime for my router/modem
     http://clip2net.com/s/3iwOLT1
Internet speed and noise increased roughly two weeks ago following a malfunctioning microfilter - that has subsequently been replaced.
I have read on other posts that following an unstable connection an automated BT system attenuates bandwidth in response ,reducing speed.
I have also read that after 3-5 days of a stable connection the same system will attempt to reverse these precautions in 3DB intervals. And that if this fails to take place I either have an issue with my line (which is extremely unlikely considering the circumstances) and that I should contact a forum moderator in order to process a DNS reset request.
If my research/assumptions are correct I am happy to supply any info further required.
Otherwise I appreciate any advice in advance.
    -J.Shelley
P.s I have performed these same tests on the main phone connection with similar results indicating extension wiring is functioning fine.
    Solved!

you cannot get a DNS reset you mean a noise margin reset
    this is your problem
Due to all the disconnections / restarts of your hub you are now in a banded profile you need to maintain a stable connection for 3/5 days and you will start to lift out of the banding automatically

  • Having to repeat SNR Resets

    Hey
I've been having some problems with my broadband speed; I start off at around 2.9Mbps, and then eventually crawl back down to 1.5, sometimes even a little lower.
I posted this on this thread about it and was advised that I should get an SNR reset, which I did and my speed went up; However, after about a month, it gradually slowed back down again.
I've done this three times now, tweeted @BTCare and got an SNR reset, and each time it's the same outcome, slowing down eventually; I'd quite like to get to the bottom of this issue, as it's a littl ebit of an inconvenience
