The Question: Why has In Design Vanished?
I have Design Standard V6 for Mac. The In Design icon won't respond and I can't open the program. I have found it impossible to navigate through to Adobe where I purchased online to re-download the ID program. Help much appreciated.

First, make sure you're logged into the iTunes Store using the account ID and password you set up, or used, when you redeemed your card/gift. If you are, try signing out of the account and back in.
If you're sure you are using the correct account and that you're signing in to the iTunes Store, and signing out and back in doesn't help, go to the Purchase History and review your purchases to make sure that you should indeed have a balance left. iTunes doesn't always refresh the balance it shows, so it's possible you spent the money and it just wasn't being reflected in the display. This display error can usually be corrected by logging out of the iTunes Store and then back in.
If you confirm that you should have balance left but the iTunes Store isn't showing it correctly, send a message to the iTunes Store customer service department through the contact form you'll find by selecting the most applicable section of their Support page (select the Contact Support link and follow the instructions) and explain the problem to them.

Is there any easier way to edit imovie files that have been exported as mov file then added to FCE 4?? As every move I make has to be rendered and takes forever??? Also my recording is going out of focus without me touching the camera, why has this happened any idea what causes this??
iMovie '08, Mac OS X (10.5.8), FCE 4My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now. About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

At least once a month - sometimes much more frequently - I get calls from users asking why the file extension they "need" to upload to SharePoint is blocked.
Most recently, it was a Microsoft Access database that the user was attempting to upload to a document library. Before that, it was a shortcut link (*.url). And so on.
Is there a reference document which goes over the reasons why specific file types are blocked?
Thanks!Each blocked file format has it's own reasons for not being allowed to be stored on a SharePoint library.
Some of them are blocked because they would be processed by SharePoint Servers during the upload/download sequences, thus, possibly corrupting the system ( like dll files ). Others would cause Crawl to break ( url files ).
The Access database files are blocked for two valid reasons. First, because saving "live" to those files using Windows explorer window ( WebDAV ) doesn't work. Second because SharePoint product managers want us to use SharePoint lists instead.
And it does makes sense.
If you're in the middle of a migration from file servers to a SharePoint solution, your people could use these situations to stop and think about it for a little:

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

Why has my Latency (Ping) increased from 20ms to 3...
Got BT Infinity installed (FINALLY, after over 12 months of them putting it off every 3 months) but this was due to a problem in our village I believe. Anyway, I am right at the end of my line and 5KM or so from my local exchange, I was only getting 2.3 meg max on ADSL and 0.8 meg upload, on BeThere (02) broadband. My pings averaged 18ms to BBC.co.uk (London/Local Servers).
Now, had infinity installed last Tuesday, and expected upload and download speeds according to Infinity of 42.1MB download and 6.5MB upload. Fastest speedtest yet was 48MB on speedtest.net and fastest upload was 6.7MB.
Now two questions:
1. A few days ago, I was receiving speeds on average of about 42-44MB in speedtests, now as of yesterday morning, this has dropped to around 38Meg. My Upload is about the same at 6.2meg.
2. THE MAIN QUESTION - Why has my Latency increased from about 20 (18-23ms on average) to 30?
Every speedtest I do now for the last 2 days, is coming back with a ping of 29-33ms which is a sudden increase of 10ms. I'd like to know what may have caused this, as I game and I know a better ping is crucial for gaming.
Can anyone shed some light here?

Well from that tracert you can see the increase isn't all down to interleaving, the first hop after the router is only 15ms, that's the interleaving, it's after this hop that the ping times increase to near 30, so in your case the ping increase is all down to how bt are routing your connection over their network.
Here's my tracert to the same website, routing is different for me and hence the better pings, also the lower interleaving depth on the second hop is also helping of course -
Why has this Z depth expression not yet been made?
I recently had an issue where I needed to composite two objects from a 3d application together on separate layers.. But the objects interact in such a way where sometimes an object from layer A is in front, and sometimes the object from layer B is in front..... But the layer order would give me a result where either A or B is in front the whole time depending which layer is on top in After effects.
(Yes I know in that example you could simply mask it, but in reality there were several objects all dealing with the issue named, and it would have been too complicated to do so.)

This is a good answer if you're only dealing with two layers... But it doesn't have an answer if you're dealing with any amount of layers more then two.....
Soooo here's my question, why has nobody made a script, option, or button in After Effects yet that simply says "do you want to use the Z depth in your RPF/RLA file to determine where the objects should fit in the scene???"
I ask only because it seems like the most obvious thing to do. If the 3-d application went through the trouble to create the option to have Z depth information, and even has file types that support having that information, then why wouldn't the compositing program have an option to use the information in the most obvious way?I was just looking more into that! And that seemed like an even better way to go. But I noticed an interesting issue. I'm rendering out of Maya 2012, and found that if I follow Autodesk's tutorial it runs me into an issue...In that youtube tutorial where they explain render passes with the space ship, the instructor adds the various objects to different contribution maps, then the layer with the background he tells maya to make a "beauty pass"....Then in the attribute editor he edits the beauty pass node by clicking on the "hold attribute." This masks out any area where the object is covered!! Great solution.... However this poses two problems for me...
1.That in the compositing program there exists about a one pixel area separating objects.... (This can be solved by duplicating the object, and adding a minmax effect to it, spreading the color out about one pixel, and setting that layer behind the original. But that means you're going to double every layer once, and add an effect to it. Not very efficient as far as render time goes...)....So if you have found a better way to solve this issue, I'm totally open to suggestions!
2.There's the issue that if I have a camera edit.....then I need to go back and re-render each image sequence... This could be ten different objects... And since the parallax changes the shape and alpha, there's nothing that can be done about that. But the real kicker is that if you used the contribution maps, you need to tell maya to batch render each contribution map individually one after the other, and name the image sequence correctly each time replacing your old image sequences....What a pain!! It'd be so much easier if it were just like the render layers... Just check mark each one you want to re-render and click batch render, and then boom! It re-renders each render layer correctly for you where the project is set, no need to re-name or anything... Far more organized. So why don't I just do that instead of using contribution maps you ask? Well that won't give me masked out renders becaus objects on separate render layers don't interact, so that "hold attribute" won't do me any good.
Since I'm new to this, I'm sure there's got to be an easier way to do this, or something that I've overlooked. Let me know if you have any ideas, thanks! -
All my music in my itunes library has vanished apart from the purchased items! It is not in the music > itunes > itunes media folder, I've searched the entire system for mp3 and nothing. Why has this happened and where has it all gone?

IKR! But u an order a connector that can plug nto any old speakers and then connect to your charger port and it will play music!

12 hours and 16 minutes ago.When you delete a message you need to give a reason. I then do. If the forum software meant for instance that people who posted a deleted message were shown that reason, the problem would be solved.
Your suggestion of a message saying "Message Deleted Due To Rules Violation" would in this particular kind of case (a new thread) mean there would be a new off-topic thread in the forum. If I delete a post in a thread (vary rare occurence but occasionally
needed) then I do post a message in the thread explaining why.
Usually these days I edit away additional exclamation marks (1 or more); additional question marks (more than one); trailing "...."; use of "Help" in Titles; use of "Urgent" in Titles; and change CAPS to non-caps in Titles (and tell people in the visible
"why edited" the reason for the edit). However if there are two such techniques in use to try to push a post ahead of the queue (for instance URGENT!) then I will still delete.
There are guidelines for Moderators but in the end it is up to the individual Moderators of a set of forums just where they want to draw the line. My particular dislike is a) for people who think their question is more important than anyone elses and thus
try the above kinds for techniques to push their posts ahead of the queue (includes saying in the text that they want an answer asap) and b) people who are so eager for points that they ask (typically) in their sig people to mark their posts as answers
(or indeed those people who propose their own posts as answers).
The key thing is that the Moderator(s) is consistent.
(I used to edit the first examples of things like exclamation marks but then delete the ca sixth or more in a session because I was by then irritated. That wasn't consistent. Now I edit the ones with a single violation and delete the ones with duplicate
violations. That is consistent and is punishing the main offenders rather than the person (as here) whose post I read sixth in a session.)
You ask about other rules for deleting ...
A. There was someone who in almost every post said that "it's very urgent". I edited out all these and asked him in the reason not to continue writing this. He kept on doing it. Finally I wrote in the reason that if he kept writing this I would
delete his posts. It had no effect so I deleted his next post (which naturally also said "it's very urgent").
You have to have the option of deleting posts if someone refuses to follow the "rules" for that set of forums. It's not a hammer that is needed very often (once or twice a year maybe) but it needs to be there.
B. There is a guy who only ever makes posts that propose the use of his product. (He also never says that it is his product). This is using the forums as a marketing tool and as such is forbidden so his posts get deleted as spam. (There is of course more
obvious spam - here it's the pattern of posts that make it spam).
If say someone answers a lot of forum questions and occasionaly has a post suggesting the use of his product (and is open about it being his product) in a thread where thats's a reasonable post then it's OK. Key is that the % fits (roughly 90% good product-neutral
posts).
C. Spam. (Obvious spam that is)
D. Posts designed to provoke a reply from the same person that suggests a product.
These are sneaky ones. Post One: "Hi, I'm looking for a product that does XX". Post Two (same poster sometimes with different display name): I found this product that suits my needs.
You need to be wide awake to see these but they do occasionally happen. Usually spotted because that product is suggested by the same person in other threads. Sometimes though they are simply not as clever as they think they are.
E. Duplicate posts
If intentionally then usually sent to two different forums. (Leading to parallel threads)
If unintentional then sent to the same forum 10 mins later because the assumption is made the first post didn't make it-
F. Posting the identical question both in an existing thread and as a new thread.
Here the Moderator decides which of the two to delete. Roughly delete the new thread if the post to a thread was to a current, active thread; remove the post in a thread if the thread was old, inactive and leave the new thread.
Again leads to parallel threads and again wastes people's time because the question could well be already answered in the other location.
G. People who search the forums for a particular phrase and then post the same message to all the threads they find via the search. They don't care if the previous post in the thread was several YEARS ago or if the thread was already closed.
Once the pattern has been spotted, all the posts are deleted.
(These are people out to get points and/or to push people towards their blogs. Replies in Dec 2010 to threads started in 2007 and ended in (say) 2008 help no-one.)
Is that enough for you to be getting on with :)

Why has my monitor suddenly begun to have a moiré pattern all over – it is even showing up on my icons on the dock? It appears to be very thin bright green vertical lines. I have a 2007 iMac which is running 10.6.8. What does this mean? I've attached some screen shots below.
Also experiencing some funky issues with my wireless keyboard. With new batteries, it will just stop functioning. Certain keys intermittently won't work. Also the fans go on as soon as I turn the computer on - some times they stay on and sometimes they don't. Ever since upgrading the operating system - I've been having many issues with this iMac. Not happy. I can put a disc in but it pops straight back out again without registering on finder.
The idea of using an external drive was to enable me to avoid the cost and loss of productivity whilst machine in repair... if I have to take it in to get the old drive removed than I might as well have a new internal drive put in, although I do worry about the reliability of these apple drives given my experience with this one coupled with my limited online research ... on line forums seem to be full of people with the same problem (although perhaps searching such forums is bound to make it seem a common problem as users with perfectly working machines are less likely to post (?)) Your reply suggests that no external drive will work whilst the existing drive is in place.
As a postscript: I do realise that this is a user forum ...my secondary question was asking if anyone knows how to put forward a case/complaint to Apple... I can't find a link on the support page that would enable me to do so and I was wondering if anyone on this user forum had any ideas/experience.. -
First off, i think it's sad that i have to use my non apple device to post this question... Why has my iPad become absolutely useless after updating to iOS 8.1? I am unable to use my mini because it crashes, slow performance, major battery drain.
Restore iPad to Factory Default; do not restore from backup. It may be the cause of the problem.

The spinning beach ball - why has my MacBook slowed down SO much?
My MacBook has become terribly slow. I get the spinning beachball almost every time I hit a key now, and I am just about ready to throw everything out the window. Mainly I use my laptop for internet browsing (Safari only), iTunes and iPhoto. I do have third party stuff on my computer such as the software for my Nike Fuelband, and Jawbone Updater for my Jambox. I have Java too, which I probaby don't need. Oh I also have some card games - but those sorts of things I get from the App Store. I don't muck around with settings or anything, because I don't know anything about that! I just USE my laptop. So having said that, I don't know why I would have the spinning beachball as my new sidekick....
I have followed instructions I found on another discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5303293?start=0&tstart=0) to test my MacBook. My results are good news I think: Logging in as a guest account, everything runs like I would hope - iTunes opens up quickly, same with iPhoto, and when I look up sites on Safari they load up quickly. I then started in safe mode, and logged in as myself. Excusing the "stuttering" of the graphics and such, I would say that in safe mode things moved along much more quickly. I got the beachball in safe mode but not every time I tried opening something, and only briefly when it did appear.
My question is, where do I go from here? How do I "clean up" or fix my MacBook so that it runs like it used to? Like I say, I think it must be good news that in those test scenarios my MacBook performs much more like the good old days. Does this suggest that my own account just has crap on it that needs to go? And if so, the big question is, how on earth would I go about identifying the source(s) of the problem and then getting rid of them?
I have searched some on the forums here but I'm at a bit of a loss because I don't really even know what to search for! As I say, I am a complete user only! I do follow instructions pretty well though, so if anyone could point me to the right help page or give me further advice, I would be oh-so-grateful!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as certain other aspects of the configuration that may have a bearing on the problem. Don’t be alarmed by the seeming complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode, if possible. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing. If you can only boot in safe mode, you can still use this procedure, but not all of it will work. Be sure to mention that in your reply, if you haven't already done so.
Below are instructions to enter UNIX shell commands. The commands are safe and do nothing but produce human-readable text output, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects. I am not asking you to trust me. If you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them.

This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it.
