Translate Site English and French in ColdFusion

I am on this project where we need to allow users from French speaking countries to be able to view the webpages and surf the site in French. I am kind of lost on the best appraoch to get this done. Please any one has an idea of where to start?
The site is working now in English and there is a databse (MS SQL Server 2005) set up also in English.
How do I translate the site to French.
The database does it have an in-built translator that will do this translation for us?
Thanks

Well it's certainly no small task you're undertaking there, but there are a couple of ways of doing it as far as I know.
The first is to store all the phrases in all languages in an XML file, then pull the correct outputs depending on the current language. For example: (pseudo, obv)
<xml>
    <dict lang="EN-US">
        <phrase id="1" value="Hello there. Welcome!" />
        <phrase id="2" value="Sorry to see you go, goodbye!" />
    </dict>
    <dict lang="FR">
        <phrase id="1" value="Bonjour. Bienvenue!" />
        <phrase id="2" value="Ah, le chat des ami. Au revoir!" />
    </dict>
    <dict lang="ES">
        <phrase id="1" value="Hola! Bienvenido!" />
        <phrase id="2" value="Lo siento, pero tu hermana es muy guapa!" />
    </dict>
</xml>
You then load each language into a structure in the APPLICATION scope (call it APPLICATION.LANG), then pretty much everywhere in your code you need to output something you'd instead do:
<cfoutput>#APPLICATION.LANG[SESSION.language].phrase1#</cfoutput>
Or similar.
The other approach is similar, but involves having the phrases saved in database tables and doing a similar thing.
And sadly no, you'll struggle to find anything that can reliably translate for you - certainly not a database.
O
PS languages are not my strong point, as you may have noticed.

  • Maintaining F1 help in English and French

    Hi,
    I have a request for all users to have the SRM in English.
    But in France, we would like to have the context menu in French.
    With above requirement, I have following questions: -
    1. Can this online help overwrite standard one if standard one exists? If yes, how?
    2. Can we maintain translations and propose choice of language if the user is connected in EN or will we have to maintain the u201CEnglishu201D text both in English and French?
    3. What is the procedure to maintain this Context help? Creation in dev system and then transport?
    4. Can we highlight somehow the fact that for a specific field we have a context help?
    Please help,
    Amey

    Hi,
    if you want to provide F1 help in both EN and FR while users are logged on in EN, then this is a customer specific requirement.
    SAP standard would be that English speaking users logon with EN (and getting F1 help in EN only - without a choice to select an alternative language) and French speaking users logon with FR (getting both F1 help and standard menus in FR).
    Of course you can extend the SAP standard help by additional texts, but this is somehow treated like a modification and you need to save this during upgrades or applying support packages ...
    Hence I would  recommend to use the standard and let French speaking users logon in French.
    Best regards,

    The calendar language is determined by system prefs/language & text/formats.
    The app language is determined by system prefs/language & text/language, or you can probably use

  • Missing translations for Italian and French

    Hello Experts, I have successfully installed a ECC 6.0 server-ABAP +JAVA system (DB2 v9.5 FP4 windows server 2008-x64 bit). Kernel: 700 , Patch: 185 ; SP level : rel 700 , level 17. I have created 3 clients : 100, 700, 701
    I have installed 2 languages apart from default ones -- Italian and french.
    My issue is there are missing translations for few transactions when i log in italian and french and this problem is only with client 100(clients 700, 701 have no missing translation issue).
    For example, if i log in to client 100 in Italian or French and go to t-code FS00, the Tabs(Type/descripton,control data,Create/bank interest , Key word/translation, Informamtion (C/A)  ) are displayed in english instead of italian or french.
    I have already followed Note 1156507 - Language supplementation, RSREFILL and client maintenance.Still facing the same issue.Requesting expert help.

    Hi ,
    Refer sap note 1159021-in client 100, 518950-efforts to translet the language.
    You can run client maintainance again in client 100 and check.
    let us know, further.

  • English and French languages

    Can anyone tell me how I can setup the form to allow a choice of language they can fill out the form in prior to submitting it?  Thank-You.  Sparky131

    Support for multiple languages in a single form is not something that is supported.  You could use the show/hide functionality to expose fields with the user's language choice, but all date, number, currency settings will be wrong for one language.  The spell checker will also only be correct for the form's chosen language (not the user's chosen language).  The alternative would be to create your form in one language, duplicate the form and set the language to another language and then hand craft your email invitation and place links to both forms with an explanation that one is for English and the other for French.

  • SAP terms English and French ?

    Hello,
    We're now working on a system which use French , We met some difficulties in getting familiar with the terms in french .. because we've worked mostly in english, so is there any way or programme that will download the terms in french and its correspondant in english into a file so that we can have a look more quickly instead of loggin into 2 languages the same time.
    For example :
    English -
    French
    Material     -
         Article
    Contract    -
    Contrat
    Thanks in advance

  • Maintaining messages in English and French

    Hi Experts,
            I have created a custom message class and I have about 60 messages maintained in English, now I have the French translations for the messages and I would like to know how to maintain the messages in French so that when a user signs-in French , he should be able to get the message only in French.

    Hi,
    You can maintain the translations for the messages using the transaction SE91.You can create the messages using English language 'EN' and maintain the translation in other languages.
    Using the menu path GOTO -> Translation, you can specify the translations for any language by selecting the desired language from the drop down list.
    Hope this helps.Please get back in case of any clarification needed.

    To get your files remove the hard drive from the dead computer and put it into an external enclosure, connect to either the firewire or usb port of your mac depending on which enclosure you buy and get your files. The dead motherboard should have no ill effect on your files as long as the hard drive still works.

  • Toggle between English and French

    Hi,
    I need to be able to display in a navigation page a button/link which, when you click on it, toggles the language for the entire portal display. That is, if I start in English, the button/link would read "Francais" and when selected, do the equivalent of the Set Language Portlet.
    Is there a programmic way of mimicking the behavior of the Set Language portlet - passing in the needed language instead of listing them and having the user select from the list.
    This is for a Canadian Government Intranet where the standard is to have a top set of navigation buttons the first of which is always the "Francais/English" button. Has anyone else done this before?
    Thanks,
    Ted

    Most people use the "globe" key for that (after activating the keyboards you want to use in settings > general > keyboards, of course).

  • I have a MacBook Pro and have just switched from Windows, I would like to know if it is possible to download somehow my Collins Talking English and talking French Help please

    I have a MacBook Pro opperating on Mavericks, Apple is all new to me having switched over from Windows, my question is, I have been unable to download my two COLLINS talking English and French, both worked well on Windows but will not  download on my MacBook, is there a method or way to download,  help please

    I don't know these programs myself, but I suspect they are not written for Mac (if they are, it will say so on the packaging somewhere).  If they are Windows only, then your only alternatives are as follows:
    You can use Boot Camp which comes with your Mac to install a copy of Windows on your Mac so that you can boot into windows and run this software via Windows.  This, of course, requires you to have a copy of Windows that you can install on the Mac. Copies of versions of Windows can be purchased via e-bay etc.
    Alternatively, see if you can find similar software that is Mac compatible (this may be a cheaper option) on Amazon or other sites.

  • Premiere Pro interface : bad translations from english

    Translating a software into many different languages can be a difficult task. But honestly, a software like Premiere Pro can't be that bad in translated terms. For example, the function "add edit" is translated in french "ajouter le montage", which is a direct translation from english and means nothing in french.
    In the sequence menu, there's also a function called "afficher au moyen des montages", and I really have no idea what it means (4th function from the bottom of the menu) :
    Based on this screenshot, could you tell me what the name of this function is in english, and how it works if you know it? Thanks!
    Also if anyone wants to report translations error in this thread (in any languages), I'd love to compile them and send a feature request to Adobe so we can have a software with functions that make sense in other languages!

    "Show throught edits"!! Thanks, now I know what it is about
    True it's not an easy term to translate though... but it really could be better than the french "afficher moyen des montages" which litteraly means : "show the mean of edits"... A better translation for it would be "afficher la continuité des raccords". Feel free to pass this on, it's my 2 cents on the subject!
    But you're right, the simple solution not to be bothered with the translation problem would be to use the english version. In order to do that, I guess I have to set my language settings to english in the Creative Cloud app, then uninstall Premiere Pro, redownload, and reinstall. Is that correct?

  • Switched a profile to use french but finder is part english part french

    hello
    I have switched the language option to french on one profile in the international settings. this has worked fine on my powerbook, but on my G5 the language is all mixed between english and french,
    The finder menu option are in english aprt from window which is "fenetre" and apps like mail are in french
    dialgue boxes are in english
    the apple menu is in french
    I have tried rebooting and switching it back and forth but the french won't apply properly. can anyone advise?

    Dear all,
    I was having the same issue with my iPad- despite changing the app store country and logging with my credentials, it was still not letting me install the updates to my existing apps!
    And the reason I found is as below:
    1. We have multiple iOS devices at home and have accounts configured for the same country in my name, my wife's name, kids' names etc.
    2. Let us say the app you want to update is from the US app store and the account you are using is also from the same US store BUT you are still getting the warning like not valid for purchases in xx store.
    THIS MEANS that even though the App store account is from the same country BUT it is not the same account that you had initially used to download this app!!
    So please login from other account (your wife's, kids' etc.) even though they are also from the same country and this time, your updates should get installed.
    I know the Apple warning in this case is not specific enough- it simply says login from another country app store accout BUT not that you must use exactly the same account initially used for installing the app!
    Hope I have been clear enough and this will help some people resolve their "app updates" issue!
    Regards,
    AdVisRic
