itunes won't download because something about "mobile device not authorized?"

Hi buckirich,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  It sounds like you may need to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service.  This article has instructions for doing this:
How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1567
If that doesn't resolve the issue, I would recommend trying a thorough uninstall and reinstall of iTunes as described here:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

    Iceman50,
Apple Mobile Device is a background service that helps iTunes communicate with the iPhone or iPod Touch.
This article discusses how to restart it:

  • Error 7 (windows error 126). Have tried to re-install itunes but failed, twice. some end message about "mobile device not supported".

Error 7 (Windows error 126). I have tried to re-install itunes twice now, and each time  " mobile device not supported" appears and the  installation can not finish.

Do you have any iOS devices? If the link above doesn't completely fix your library I could talk you through installing iTunes without Apple Moble Device Support for now which would at least enable you to open iTunes.

  • ITunes won't download because MSVCR80.dll is missing

I have had an iTunes account, and have much music on file.  I have recently been unable to access it because MSVCR80.dll is missing.  It said to uninstall my iTunes, which I did, but now the new version still won't download.
    Help, anyone??

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • ITunes won't play older purchases says the are not authorized

SOme of the older TV shows I purchased with this account won't play on my laptop. I looked at the other posts on this issue but not of the advice is relevant. For example, one recommendation to get rid of the "this computer is not authorized" message is to delete the SC Info folder in /Users/Shared/. I don;t have an SC Info folder at all on the laptop. I did the thing where you use terminal to change permissions, no luck. Some TV shows play, others don't. I checked the Get Info summary page for the files in question and confirmed I bought them with my one and only account, so it isn't an issue of multiple accounts. To say the least this is an annoying position to be in, any help would be appreciated.

"For example, one recommendation to get rid of the "this computer is not authorized" message is to delete the SC Info folder in /Users/Shared/. I don;t have an SC Info folder at all on the laptop."
    It's a hidden folder.

  • When trying to connect to itunes i get an error saying apple mobile device not started. what does this mean

i try and plug my phone into itunes and it comes up with an error saying this iphone cannot be used because apple mobile device has not started! what does that mean?

  • ITunes won't download because my computer isn't "modified"?

Okay. So when I got my iPad and started syncing things, my iTunes just didn't work after that.
Being the stupid idiot I am, I ended up just deleting off my whole computer.
Now, I cant install it because of my system not being modified.
I did a system restore and uninstalled all the Apple things I had in my computer and still nothing works :c.
Is there anything else I can do?
( I run on Windows 7, and Im not sure if I got 32 or 64. I got this laptop back in December 2011 )

I have a brand new Dell computer and a new nano, I get the same message. I have uninstalled 3 times with the same result. I can successfully download version 4 and version 6 of itunes, but I need version 7 to get my ipod to work. All Apple said to do was to uninstall and try again, very helpful....not. Why is this acceptable, to buy something that won't work?

  • My itunes won't download because of older itunes software

I've tried to redownload itunes on to my computer after it was reimaged, and it wont allow me to download it because of old itunes software. Anyone know how to fix the problem? I've tried to delete any old itunes update software remaining on my laptop, but it wont delete.

Probably could be some residue in registry. For windows 7 see support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Did I see XP? There is a similar tool (no longer supported by microsoft) available on the web called windows installer cleanup utility. It allows you to inspect the registry. With EXTREME CARE delete any entries containing the words  iTunes, Quicktime, Bonjour

  • Itunes won't open because it says Quicktime was not found?

When I click to open Itunes, first this message pops up: The procdedure entry point QTCF_CFHTTPPMessageSetHeaderFieldValue couldn not be locate in the dynamic link library QTCF.dll.
Then i click OK and the same message pops up, and then another one pops up saying: Quick Time is not found.  Quicktime is required to open Itunes.  Please uninstall Itunes, then install it again.
Except I checked, and i DO have Quicktime.  So I uninstalled Quicktime, and installed it again.  I opened iTunes and ir won't work.  So I uninstalled iTunes and then installed it again.  Still doesn't work...

If you definitely have a working QuickTime but iTunes thinks that you7 do not, then this points to a particular type of error.
Do you have a computer that has been set up for a work network? You may find that iTunes works OK when the computer is connected to the network but doesn't at home when not connected.
There are other possibilities, but this is a common one.
If I have guessed right, the problem lies in the %path% environment variable. In order to look at its contents, could you do the following:
    Type:
    cmd
into your search box and click cmd under Programs.
The black cmd window will open.
Next copy&paste the following into the cmd window and press return:
    echo %path% >documents\path.txt
This will place the contents of the %path% variable in a text file called Path in (My) Documents.
Could you copy&paste this text file into your next post so I can look at it.
(Use ctrl V to paste into the editor, right click doesn't work.)

  • ITunes won't run because a required component is not installed

I think a Quicktime upgrade went wrong and now I can no longer open my iTunes and this message appears:
"The itunes application could not be opened. a required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reenstall Quicktime (-42404)"
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime but it still does not work, and I don't want to risk losing my 50GB of music..
    Thanks in advance

Download iTunes 11 from the Apple site and reinstall. The error message was quite plain in telling you what to do to resolve the error.

  • ITunes won't sync purchased tracks to mobile devices

...When I sync playlists from my mac mini to my new iPhone 5, the playlist lists all songs in that playlist but will not play (skips) all purchased and downloaded tracks in the playlist and only plays tracks I copied off cd's.  How can I fix this?
On my iPad, the playlists are shown as icons with the number of songs and '0' minutes of time, and no songs are listed when I click on an icon.  Haywire with iTunes!  Everything is normal on the Mac mini.

Managed to find a workaround on this one.
Signed out of my iTunes account in settings on my iPhone, then synced again and everything (including purchases) transferred across. Then signed back in.
    Happy days!

  • I'm trying to install the new Itunes but every time it gets to a certain point it says something regarding mobile devices not install correctly and wont let me continue

Everytime I try to install the new Itunes It fails.  I've tried downloading the set up twice with the same effect.

  • A song won't play because it says i'm not authorized. When I try to authorize my computer, it says I already am authorized.

All the other songs on the album play just fine. I don't know what happened.

Delete and redownload it if doing so is free in your country.
