User quota question

Okay, so I have one for the group here.
I have a volume that supports quotas, and houses both user directories, and group directories.
User has something in their home folder, that counts against the quota. User puts something in the group directory, that also counts against their quota.
What I'm curious about is, is there any way to prevent the latter, above, short of a cron job (launchd) that chowns everything in the group folders to some user that doesn't have a quota?
Used to be, you could use AFP inherit permissions. And while you can do setgid on a directory to force group inheritance, you can't do a similar thing with users.
So, it's not horrible that this happens, but it would be nice to know how to get around this. And of course, there doesn't seem to be a way to exclude certain directories from impacting quota.
btw, this is an Xsan 2.1 volume, but that shouldn't matter.
Thanks!

  • How to set user quotas on a certain filesystem

    Hi
It may be simple and easy question but I'm really new to this
I need to know how to set user quotas on a certain file system in details
I know it can be done easily in one step in Solaris ZFS
but how is it done in Linux ?
    Thanks in Advance :)

  • Increase Individual Users Quota

In the past I was able to right click on a Users Home Directory > Properties > Novell Info and change their Quota.
Now when I do this, even though it says the change was made, it is not updating for the Users. They still cannot save to their Home Directory as it tells them their disk is full.
There is ample room on the Volume.
NSM does not report any errors on the Engine or Agent monitor screens.
NSM 2.5.1 (I know. An upgrade is on our list :)) On Netware 6.5
    Windows 7 User machines
    eDir 8.8.6
    NSS data on OES2 SP3
Any ideas. This is probably the first request we have had for a quota increase since we went to Windows 7. Could that be the issue?
    Thanks!!

    kbannister,
Are you able to increase these users' quota through NSM's Quota
Management interface? Or through iManager? Or have you only attempted
    this through ConsoleOne?
If none of those tools work, the problem might be the NSS settings on
the volume in question. Verify those with NSSMU.

  • Different User Quotas

    Hellooos,
I have setted default user quotas for our ims5.2, but now i need to set different quotas, i.e. certain users to have different account quotas than the rest users of the domain!???

You can set a users mail message quota via the delegated admin, or via ldapmodify by setting the attribute "mailQuta" to the number of bytes. If you use ldapmodify, the number should be an even power of 2, ie for a 200Mb quota, put in 209715200. I'm not sure if this will cause a problem if you don't follow it, but I do know the iDA will modify your input to conform to the rule.

  • How to kick guest user when user quota has exhausted

    Hi,
I have wlc and acs v4.0. Currently, I am using layer 3 security with web authentication and has been succesfully integrated with ACS for authentication. User quota has been set so that when user has reached its quota, may not be able to log in again. But problem occurs when the user has not logged out, it still can connect to network although its account at ACS shows disabled because of its quota limitation. So, is it a way to kick the user out, when the user has reached its quota ?
Radius accounting has been properly set. and AAA override has been set on appropriate wlan ssid.
    Regards,
    Suwandy

    thanks for your reply.
do you mean "allow AAA override" ? If so, I have tried it and it works for changing user session by radius server. But the problem is, radius server do not send the user-session parameter dynamically. How can the radius send/calculate the remaining session time to wlc ?

  • Mail Per User Quotas Not Working

We just migrated from 10.9 server to the new 10.10 server and noticed that our per user mail quotas were no longer working.  If I change the Server app - Mail setting - to have a global mail quota on it work, however, we have a few accounts that we need to leave unlimited and the per user quota will not override the global quota.  So far we have had to leave the global quota disabled because of this.
Even without global quota turned off - trying to set per user mail limits is still not working.  We are changing it thru the Server app and clicking users - selecting a user - then select edit mail options - and changing the setting for the limit size.  No matter what we set it to - it will not work.
Does anyone know what command or how to change the per user quota limits from the command line?  I found that Dovecotadm quota -u username  shows you what the quota is, but I am stumped as how to change it via a command line or thru another method since the server app is not working.
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Is there a log to register a change user quota ?

    Hi,
I would like to know if there´s a specific log or event to verify with someone changed the user quota from a specific user.
Or with there´s an ID on eventviewer to check it
I have an user that for some reason I change the quota and a few days later the quota come back to the old quota.
    Thanks

It should be in Admin Audit Log if any admin has changed it...
Admin Audit log is by default enabled when you install Exchange and keeps 90 days of data (unless someone changed it)

    Hello,
I have two problems with ACS 3.1
1 - The dialog box for authentication reappear during the user connexion to Internet
2 - The user quotas does not work althought the function was selected

  • Xsan User Quotas

I got the official word from Apple regarding a bug in the Xsan User Quotas program: Although the program accurately reports quotas for the users, the program will NOT report quotas for the groups that the user is in. You'll have to use Xsan Admin to check on the group quotas. I'm annoyed that such a simple tool doesn't work, but I'm glad to find out the problem's not on my side.

Does anyone know if messaging server 6.3 supports mailbox user quotas over 6 Gb?, because in messaging server 5.2 we had some problems using user quotas of 3GbAs Jay said, larger quota's are supported in 6.3. The reason why iMS5.2 was unable to support a quota larger then 4GB is that it didn't support the use of the K,M,G extensions in the mailquota: user attribute.
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4437/6n6jckqv5?a=view
So for iMS5.2 the limit was restricted to the largest value of a signed integer. For MS6.3 "The maximum quota value of the user mailbox is 4096G".

  • Adding user challenge questions.

I have been successful in reading and changing questions and answers programmatically but have not been able to add new user questions. (I have been able to add them through IDM online interface.)
Does anyone know how to add new user challenge questions?

I am curious at what point your doing this? I have a set of challenge questions and answers in an LDAP that I would like to use to populate the fields inside of iDM. This way, I could utilze the iDM screens/logic when a user forgets their password. I would also need to keep these fields updated in iDM as they could change in the LDAP. Any suggestions?

  • User Quota setting problem on NAS 5210

    Hi All,
NAS 5210 user quota settings displays wrong usage space.
We have set a quota of 15gb per user.
Case No1: Two of the user directories contains 8.1gb of data and user is not able to copy any more data. When we check the status of the quota settings it displays used space as 16GB(which double the space of actual data stored).
Case No2: We tried to test with other user directory(already consists of 5gb data) with same quota settings by copying 8gb of data which was successful and we copied more data into the same directory it went upto 18gb which is more than the actual quota.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • Migrating Users Quotas on NSS Volumes

    Hi !
We have a Netware 6.5 SP7 server with around 45000 users on it. We have a NSS volumes called USERS where must of the users have a quotas restrictions.
How can I migrate all the users quotas restrictions from a Netware server to an OES 2 Linux server ?
I tried many tools like SCMT, migfiles, tcnvlnx.nlm, ... Everything is migrating correctly EXCEPT the users quotas on the NSS volumes.
    Any ideas ?
    Eric

    Marcel Cox wrote:
    > Are your users lum enabled?
Quotas don't need LUM enabled users on OES2 Linux.
But if Eric is referring to Volume Space Restrictions and migrations
just folders, then it won't work.. directory restrictions should
migrate, haven't tried becoz we only user Volume based.
6.1.3 User Space Restrictions Only Migrated in Full Volume Copies
In consolidation projects where individual folders are dragged and
dropped, or where a volume is
copied to a folder on the destination server, user space restrictions on
    the source volume are not
    migrated to the destination volume.
If your consolidation project is set up to copy an entire volume, with
    the contents of the source
volume being copied to the root of the destination volume, user space
    restrictions are migrated to the
destination volume. If user space restrictions already exist on the
    destination volume, they are
overwritten with the restrictions migrated from the source volume.

  • ZFS per-user quota availability

    Hi,
I am just wondering if the new Solaris 10 update will include per-user quota for one ZFS file system?
To be able to auto mount cross different file systems as exported by ZFS, one must use autofs4, which is an requirement very difficult to meet. We run different Linux distros/Unix and versions of various Linux and Unix. It's not possible to upgrade autofs to the latest autofs4 on all of them. Also we need to keep different versions around.
    Simon

Let's use an example. Create one file system for each user, user1, user2 and user3.
    /export/home/user1
    /export/home/user2
    /export/home/user3
On one Linux client, user1 logs in and autofs auto mounts /home/user1. When user1 tries to change directory to /home/user2. Autofs would not mount /home/user2 because the autofs older than autofs4 can't cross a different file system to mount.

  • A PC user's questions about Airport Extreme & Airport Express

    Hi all,
I have a few questions regarding both the Airport Extreme AC and the Airport Express.
I am a PC user who is currently looking at replacing my Cisco Linksys EA4500(primary router) and my Linksys E2500(bridge router) due to the lack of regular firmware updates that Linksys fails to provide for their routers  and the fact that I simply find Linksys products to be buggy..  Based on my research,  Apple's Airport Extreme N and the AC versions have received excellent reviews on Amazon and I am considering purchasing both the Airport Extreme AC(to replace my Linksys EA4500) and the Airport Express(to replace my Linksys E2500).
Before I get to my questions, let me be frank in saying that I do not have a Mac(but intend to after my desktop dies) at this time but in my house we have two iPhone 4s's and one iPad 2 as far as Apple products are concerned.  My computer network consists of my HP Windows 7 based desktop and HP Windows 7 laptop and I have a home ethernet in every room in the house . In addition, my den's ethernet connection is connected as Ethernet wall jack in which the connections include---->Ethernet switch------>Tivo---->Playstation 3/Xbox 360/Nintendo Wii/----->Samsung Smart TV---->Linksys E2500.
    My questions are as follows:
    1. Initial/Out of the box set up: Based on what I have read here, it is possible for a PC user to setup the Airport Extreme by downloading the Airport Extreme utility software from Apple. However I have been confused based on what I have read on Amazon in that some users report that the initial setup can only be done using a Mac.  Would someone from this forum kindly clairify this for me? Can I set up the Airport Extreme with my network assuming that I have previously downloaded an installed Apple's Airport Extreme Utility for the PC?
    2. Using the Airport Express as a wireless bridge: Currently my Linksys E2500 serves as my secondary router in my den in bridge mode.  Can I set up an Airport Express as a wireless bridge assuming I was sucessfully in setting up my Airport Extreme? On Linksys products this is done by setting the router in bridge mode and assigning it a specific IP address within the bridge router's settings.  So for example, my Linksys E2500 has a 192.168.1.1X IP address, can I do this with the Airport Extreme?  Note the the intention here for the extra router in my den to provide additional wireless coverage due to the size of my home.  I do not need it to provide me with the same wireless network name as my primary router, I only want to provide the back of my house with additional wireless coverage that a primary router will not provide.
    3. Router Security and reliability:  I would like the router that I purchase to include regular firmware updates beyond that of one year.  Especially now that most modern routers have some sort of cloud set up,  I wouldn't want to purchase a router today, only to find out that I wouldn't be able to update its firmware one year from now.   With respect to Apple's routers,  how often does Apple release firmware and typically speaking;  how long will Apple support additional firmware releases for its products?
Thanks to anyone who reads and responds to my long post!

The one problem is Apple using their own automatic port opening system.. NAT-PMP which is fine for apple clients but will not work with almost anything else made which depends on UPNP ..
There are lots of hassles with PS3 and XBox live and anything that depends on standard automatic port opening for interactive internet connection.
Manually opening ports is possible but a pain.
    eg
    AirPort Extreme and xbox 360

I do agree with John Galt that the Apple products are well made and generally great.. they did have a bad capacitor failure issue in the Gen1 and Gen2 TC which he may have forgotten about.. I have repaired about 200 of the bludgers. And there was a dedicated site to pressure apple to fix them.. with 2500 recorded dead TC.
    See http://timecapsuledead.org/
    See
    https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenague/a-deconstruction-of-routers-and-modem s/apple-time-capsule-repair
And some ongoing issues.. even post getting that fixed up.
    https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenague/a-deconstruction-of-routers-and-modem s/apple-time-capsule-repair/new-issue-with-a1355-gen-3-tc
But the AEBS had external power supply so didn't add to the heat of built in HDD and power supply in a case too small without cooling. New ones seem to have learnt the lessons of the past in that the power supply is internal but they use a fan system to keep it cool.
See http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Apple_Time_Capsule for internal construction.. TC and AEBS are now identical except for the hard disk.
An option worth considering is using a router with third party source firmware.
You are then never cut off from great updated firmware.. and you can do amazingly more with the fuller setup that includes Telnet cli and extensive interface on the GUI.
Eg Gargoyle on a Netgear WNDR3800 or even cheaper TP-Link WDR3600 or WDR4300.
These offer full QoS, not in Apple products.
Full throttling controls, not in Apple products.
Quota, not in any other products in domestic market at all.
NAT-PMP and UPNP, not in Apple products.
    VPN, not in Apple products.
Multiple VLAN, Multiple IP addressing, not in Apple producs.
SMTP, which Apple removed from all their new products.. no reason why.
Log access, which Apple removed from the new airport utility.. no reason why.
    etc.
If for some reason that firmware doesn't suit.. you can flash over to DD-WRT, or OPENWRT.. etc. in other words you are never again beholden to the manufacturer who after the product is EOL is also end of support.
