Webcam recording application

Hi all.
I am pretty new to Flash development so here goes.
I have got FMS dev server running and it seems to work. Also have the trial version of CS5 and using FlashDevelop.
There is an absolute barrage of information on the topic at hand but never a beginner's guide, so to speak.
Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to create the following.
I need a loosestanding web application that records the video and audio from the webcam/microphone combination. First prize would be to store this as an FLV (or other compressed video) locally for later processing. Second prize is to stream it to FMS and store there. This will need to function in a ASP.NET site hosted in IIS as a plugin.
So the question is (and already managed to create an swf from a tutorial in CS5 that streams a specific FLV back to the SWF) how to do this. Sufferring from overload somewhat so if the experts would not mind to give me a few do's and donts and maybe, please, a tutorial that I have missed.
Main questions are:
1. How to set up the flash app to record the video stream with sound.
2. How to make this file available for .NET to use.
Would really appreciate any assistance.
Thanks

thanks patrick for your interest.
we're using the 2.0.3.
this error code was never traced in the log file of the 2.0.2

    Hi,
    Webcam recording on 3 different ubuntu 10.4 pc. Will only show a low resolution view and recording. We have this problem with a self developed flash application. On mac and widows it works fine. The same problem as exist in the youtube webcam recorder (http://www.youtube.com/my_webcam)
    We tested it with different 10.3.* flash players.

    I think these two bugs relate to the same problem. But the are closed. There are some people still complaining the issue isn't fixed. As I have experienced.

    Hi Marcel,
    This bug (our internal number is 2589240) has been deferred for the initial release of Flash Player 11 but will be considered for future versions.  I've personally brought this up to our management team and I know that others are aware of it.  Since Jira is no longer used for Flash Player, and the bugs are closed, would you mind opening a new bug over at bugbase.adobe.com?  Once opened, I'd like to encourage everyone effected by this issue to vote and comment in the bug.  We use these votes to help determine priority for bug fixes in future builds.

  • External Hard Drive and Audio Recording Application

    Hi, hope everyone is doing well today. I'm new to this forum but I have been occasionally browsing it from time to time and find it very useful. So I figured I would post a couple questions that I have.
    First of all I would like to tell you all excatly what I want to do with my computer. Currently I am trying to optimize my computer for the Audio Recording Application I have *Cubase SX 3* I recently just upgraded my RAM from 512 KB to 1.5 GB. My next purchased is most definitaly going to be an external hard drive, which leads me to my first question.
    1. If someone could recomend me an external hard drive that is abosolutly amazing for audio recording and such around $150. I would ONLY be using the drive to save my audio files. Definitaly needs to be firewire also.
    2. Next question is. I've heard of people booting from their external hard drives which has nothing but there OS and there audio recording application. That way when they boot it up they don't have processes running "Behind the scenes" and taking up some processor power. Is this true? If so, how would you going about doing this and what would I need?
    3. If anybody else that is reading this is like me and does alot of audio editing on their iMac G5 computer if you could give me some tips in optimizing the performance of the computer in order to get the most out of it.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks ahead of time everyone.

    drive that is abosolutly amazing for audio recording
    and such around $150. I would ONLY be using the
    drive to save my audio files. Definitaly needs to be
    firewire also.
    Hard drives are pretty much the same. 7200 rpm are obviously a bit faster than 5400rpm. Why Firewire? USB 2 is about the same speed as standard Firewire 400, but the drives are cheaper.
    2. Next question is. I've heard of people booting
    from their external hard drives which has nothing but
    there OS and there audio recording application. That
    way when they boot it up they don't have processes

    processor power. Is this true? If so, how would you
    going about doing this and what would I need?
    OS processes are going to be running in the background regardless of which disk the OS is on, that's what an OS does! If you don't want more processes simply make sure you don't have any other apps open. I don't know Cubase, but a G5 will handle video editing along with background tasks no problem, and video editing generally involves far more data manipulation than just sound, even if you're doing multiple tracks.
    You can easily install the OS on an external hard drive using your original system install disk. Simply connect the drive and choose that as the destination in the installer. To boot from that you would choose it in System preferences/Startup Disk. You could minimise that system by deleting other applications from that drive's Applications folder, turning off internet connections, disabling all widgets etc, but as long as you only have Cubase open it shouldn't make too much difference.
    3. If anybody else that is reading this is like me
    and does alot of audio editing on their iMac G5
    computer if you could give me some tips in optimizing
    the performance of the computer in order to get the
    most out of it.
    There's not really much else to optimise. Modern Macs are not like computers of old, and OS X is a very modern system, not requiring the type of disk optimisation etc that there used to be.

  • Captivate 4 Automatic Recording does not record application

    Windows 7 64bit, Captivate 4.01. Run as Administrator. Create Project>Software Simulation>Record Application - Microsoft Excel 2010. Automatic Recording selected - mode doesn't matter, but Demonstration and Assessment checked. Start recording with red button. All settings default. After lots of moving around, typing, clicking, etc. in window, I can't stop recording using End key - I have to click on the CP icon in the Notification Area icon to stop recording. The resulting project is a single slide without any of the actions recorded. To repeat - I did start Captivate by right clicking on the desktop icon and selecting Run as Administrator.
    Anyone resolve this issue? I did try searching the forum before posting, but maybe it isn't IE9 compatible as I got 0 results - even when searcing for "Captivate 4 Windows 7"

    Captivate 4 CAN sometimes work fine on Windows 7 64bit systems.  It does on mine, but not all users report this success.
    Before you go and buy Cp 5.5 you might as well try the different compatibility settings to see if one of them will work for you.
    Another thing to be aware of is that Captivate doesn't always capture every single screen event for some programs.  So with the project you found resulted in a single slide, were you hearing the camera shutter sound at regular intervals?  If not, it may be simply that Captivate wasn't "seeing" the events on screen and you might have needed to do more manual captures to get everything.

  • Easy Webcam Record App

    I am looking for a very very basic way to just take the webcam. Have a little button to click record, and then when done press stop. Then that video is saved as a .flv on my server (and then i can do other things with it not in media server). I am sure this is very easy to do but i can't find any tutorials and suggestions on where to start with this. Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks!

    Hi,
    You may want to take a look at this. This provides the client side code required to publish a video from the webcam. On the server side you'll need to create a new application with a simple server-side code in the main.asc like:
    var pubCount = 0;
    application.onConnect=function(clientObj){
              trace("          on connect ");
              return true;
    application.onDisconnect=function(clientObj){
              trace("          on disconnect ");
    application.onPublish = function(clientObj,streamObj){
      trace("          in application publish : " + streamObj.name);
      if(pubCount <= 1)
              streamObj.record("record");
      else
              streamObj.record("append");
      pubCount++;
    application.onUnpublish = function(clientObj,streamObj){
    trace("          on unpublish : " + streamObj.type + ":" + streamObj.name);
    streamObj.record(false);
    Hope this helps.
    Let me know if you have any other questions.
    Thanks,
    Apurva

  • Webcam recording on Mac but NOT thru iChat!

    Other than sodding well meeting iChat 4 System Requirements, there is no cost for a Leopard user to "subscribe" to iChat.
    You can use a FREE @mac.com name, a FREE AIM name, or some of each. You do NOT need to add ANY other software or pay for ANYTHING. Merely register as many free names as you need and use them with the iChat that comes with your Leopard Mac OS X.

    Some of the apps shown here offer simple ways to record video with your camera:
      http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage7.html
    However, some of the apps listed there are not free, and some are full-featured apps that offer professional power (and the associated complexities.) Others may not be compatible with your system, so be aware of all these facts while you are considering which may offer capabilities that you want.
    The easiest free way for a Leopard user to record video chats/conferences is to use iChat:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iChat/4.0/en/11881.html
    If you are specifically looking for ways to record video chat NOT using iChat, it can be done with Skype and some for-fee add-on software as explained here:

  • N82 Sound Recorder Application?

    This has been a handy tool on pretty much every phone I can remember owning in this century, but I can't seem to find such a feature on my new N82
    Am I missing something? Or does one not exist? If so, are there third party applications available for N-series phones that can let me use my phone as a sort-of dictaphone?

  • Error when I try to record application simulation in Adobe Presenter 8

    Hello, I have a 30 day trial of Adobe Presenter 8 and a subscription to Adobe Captivate 6.  I would like to record an application simulation within Presenter, but I receive an error after entering a SWF-Name that states that Captivate cannot be started and to check to see if Captivate is configured to be run in administrator mode. (Captivate is actually already open in admin mode.)
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!  Ryan

    Hi Mahesh --
    I have Adobe Captivate 6 and use Windows 7 Enterprise.  Below is a screen shot of the error.  Unfortunatley, it is in German, but it says  : Adobe Captivate can't be started.  Check to see if Adobe Captivate is configured to be run in adminstrator mode.  If so, configure Microsoft Powerpoint to be run in administrator mode and restart Adobe Captivate.
    Thanks again.

  • Recording application sound

    I want to make a captivate recording of a multimedia
    application.
    It works fine to record the movie-elements in the
    application, but i also want to record the application sound.
    As a work around, I now put my microphone in fron of a
    loudspeaker. The result is not to bad, but it would be much better
    If I could record the application sound electronically into
    Captivate. Is this possible? How?

    Hi Paul,
    Unfortunately this isn't really any thing else that you can
    using Captivate to capture the audio. I've used the old sticking
    the microphone in front of the speaker from some projects in past.
    If volume of the recorded audio is a problem then you could
    probably improve on this using an audio editing application such as
    Adobe
    Soundbooth (Beta 2) or
    Adobe Audition.
    Failing that, could you always contact the developers and can them
    if they could provide you with the application sounds.
    Regards,
    Mark

    Would cleaning out the preferences help Appleworks to run smoother? I noticed that was suggested in an earlier post.
    Peggy's reply is spot on. Deleting the preferences won't make AppleWorks run smoother and it's not something you should do regularly. It's only a troubleshooting remedy - if the preference files are corrupted then it causes strange behaviour with AppleWorks.
    The reason deleting your recent items makes AppleWorks smoother is because AppleWorks is programmed to check them regularly. And if there's a lot of them, then it takes AppleWorks a long time to check them. This causes AppleWorks to 'run a bit rough' – it's not just handling your typing, formatting, etc but also chasing up documents on your hard drive.
    Hope the explanation helps a bit.

  • USB WebCam record in iMovie

    I have VideoCam connected via FireWire to iMovie to import clips. When I turn the camera off, from VTR mode, the USB WebCam gets activated and there comes option "Record With Camera".
    Same happends naturally when I turn the firewire camera to "camera".
    But without first connecting the DVcam via firewire I cannot connect the USB Logitech Skype WebCam to iMovie.
    Is there anything that could be done to make iMovie to find the webcam without first connecting the firewire device?

    So it seems that if I want to use iMovie + WebCam combination it got to be done via connect other camera first trick.

  • Webcam recording problems

    I am trying to record audio and video from the user's computer and upload it to a Flash media server.
    The problem I'm having is that the audio doesn't start immediately even though the video does.  Also the video cuts off before the user has finished recording.  I am waiting for the netstream buffer to empty after the user clicks 'stop' so I'm not sure what the problem is.
    Do I have to do anything else to 'finish' a recording?

    I wrote a custom Flex application to publish the stream.  Most of the code I copied from Adobe examples.  To start the camera:
    var camera:Camera = Camera.getCamera();
        if (camera != null) {
            camera.setMode(320,240,30,true);
            camera.addEventListener(ActivityEvent.ACTIVITY, activityHandler);
            video = new Video(camera.width, camera.height);
            video.attachCamera(camera);
            var spriteWrapper:UIComponent = new UIComponent();
            addChild(spriteWrapper);
            spriteWrapper.addChild(video);
        } else {
            Alert.show("You need a camera.");
    The actual publishing part is here:
        nc = new NetConnection();
            nc.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, onNetStatus);
            nc.connect("rtmp://myserver.compute.amazonaws.com/jsd");
            var client:Object = new Object();
            client.onBWDone = function ():void { trace('on bw done'); }
            nc.client = client;
    private function onNetStatus(event:NetStatusEvent):void {
        if(event.info.code == "NetConnection.Connect.Success"){
            cam = Camera.getCamera();
            mic = Microphone.getMicrophone();
            mic.rate = 22;
            ns = new NetStream(nc);
            ns.attachCamera(cam);
            ns.attachAudio(mic);
            ns.publish("camtest", "record");
        if (event.info.code == 'NetConnection.Connect.Rejected' || event.info.code == 'NetStream.Record.NoAccess') {
            Alert.show("Rejected");
            nc.close();
