Wrong Device Type Selected

This is a partial fix when a wrong device type is selected in the network map, either by you or Network Magic. The first step here was NOT done by me, but by "mbroadfo". He did an excellent job on figuring this out. There is a quicker and easier way however, once you do mbroadfo's work. This was his post under "Network Map Issuses Solved!:
09-22-201010:02 AM
I have been trying to figure out how to resolve a couple of issue with the Network Map in Cisco Network Magic (I have version 5.5.9195.0). The problem is that the device names and types I established initially don't get updated correctly in the map when my DHCP server assigns a new IP address. Network Magic does not seem to recognize the device by the MAC address and seems to put too much stock in the IP address (which is strange as DHCP is prevalent on most networks).
In order to re-initialize the network map, perform the following steps on ALL PC's running Network Magic:
1) Do not de-install Network Magic (it's not necessary unless you want more work)
2) Run: serveme.exe from "C:\Program Files\Pure Networks\Network Magic\Support\" (or wherever you installed Cisco Magic) - I created a shortcut so I can do this in the future without hunting around
3) Find the System Tray icon for serveme (it's a green dot surrounded by a white box)
4) Right click on the serveme icon and select:
- Stop NmService (the first item)
- Delete NetworkLib.xml
5) Repeat on ALL PC's running Network Magic
Once you have finished on ALL PC's, perform the following on each PC with Network Magic installed:
1) Right click on the serveme icon in the System Tray and select:
- Start NmService (the first item)
- Force First Run (the eleventh item)
- Exit ServeMe
2) Double-Click on Network Magic icon on the System Tray
3) Click the Link to restart the Network Magic Platform
4) Go through the initial startup steps per the instructions in the User Guide
5) Repeat on ALL PC's running Network Magic
Hope this helps!
Foot
The one problem that I kept having, was on one laptop in particular. Once I got all other PC’s correct, this one followed in suit. (I guess I should mention briefly, there are always at a minimum, 5 laptops, 2 desktops, 2 network drives, 3 network cameras, 1 network printer and 3 game consoles listed on the network map. More if friends come over.) You can see my dilemma if one of my device types change. One step left out by mbroadfo, if you have multiple computers with Network Magic on them, only have ONE connected to the network with a complete map at a time. If anything changes to the device type, all of the computers will change their device type and you will have to start all over again.
1. Leave all of your network devices turned on. Follow the steps above to disable Network Magic.
2. On one computer, follow the steps above to get Network Magic running again. Once you have a full map of all of your correct devices displayed, proceed to step 3.
3. Go to the following folder: C:\Users\All Users\Pure Networks\Platform
4. Copy this file: networklib.xml
5. SAVE THIS FILE somewhere in a folder where you know where it is. You could rename the copy to something like network.xml.temp
6. Go to the next computer, leaving the first PC running all the time on the network, and start Network Magic. Network Magic's network map should populate with the first PC's map. If anything changes, you can restore the xml file on the first PC. I'll explain this step later. Once the map is populated correctly, do the same thing on copying the "networklib.xml" file on the second PC, disconnect the second PC from the network or shut it down so its map cannot change. DO NOT copy the "networklib.xml" from the any PC to another thinking it is a short cut. Each "networklib.xml" file is specific to that PC. Move to the next PC and perform step 6 again until all PC's running Network Magic are done.
7. Once all PC's are done, they can all be brought back online and life should be great.
Now for the easier part. From this point on, if the map ever changes, simply exit Network Magic, open Task Manager and stop the nmsrvc, go to C:\Users\All Users\Pure Networks\Platform and delete "networklib.xml", copy your saved version of that file back to this folder and restart Network Magic. I know that the initial setup takes a while, but it is easier in the end if anything changes. I use the map and shares to access my cameras and network drives and if one of those changes to any type of computer, you cannot change the device type back. The software needs to have the same type of selection for all device types as when the "Network Device" in the drop down's is selected. I have just spent hours trying to get all of my devices set back to normal. I hope this will help some of you from repeated frustration when something changes.

Since I wrote the previous fix, I have had some other issues which forced me to correct several times, the Network Magic map. This was for the most part, letting other people have access to change the map. I have since put passwords in place to stop that. I have come up with a shorter way to do the fix that I suggested and found a possible flaw in the previous fix. I don’t know why or where this comes from, but on all of the computers that I have, NM has two different names for the process that runs. Two computers can both be 64 bit hardware and 64 bit OS and still have different process names. The following is what I am using now and works fine for me, but from what I am seeing no matter what software package, whether game or tool, each computer is so unique, the same problem may be on computers with two completely different fixes. Anyway, the following steps are what I am using now and works great on my systems. Hope maybe these steps will work on yours:
1.       Goto each computer and do the following steps in order. Right click on the Network Magic icon in the notification area of the task bar and exit Network Magic. Next, open Task Manager and click on the Processes tab. This is where NM uses two different names that I have seen: nmsrvc.exe or nmctxth.exe . Which ever process is running, end the process. Next, click on the Services tab. Scroll down until you find nmservice. Right click on nmservice and select Stop Service. Wait to make sure the Status column changes from Running to Stopped. It may take a few moments. If it does not stop or a message appears saying that the service cannot be stopped, click on the Services button at the bottom right corner. Scroll down on the Services window until you find Pure Networks Platform Service. Right click on the this and click on Stop. Again, wait until the status column changes from Started to Stopped. I have tried to just stop the service, but all of the steps above have to be done in order for this to work. This service is what communicates between this computer on all others running NM and tells them what is in the map. Leave this window open and proceed to step 2.
2.       Go to C:\Users\All Users\Pure Networks\Platform folder. Delete the file networklib.xml on all computers.
3.       Once step two is done, go back to the Services window and right click on Pure Networks Platform Service and click on Start. When the Status column changes back from Stopped to Started, click on your Network Magic icon to restart the program on one computer only. Watch to map to make sure it populates correctly. If not, you can simply delete the networklib.xml file at this point without having to stop the service again. The map should start over again from scratch. (John.h2h, see at the bottom of this for a possible area to look at for your issue.) Once the map is correct, goto the next computer and do step 3 again. If the map is correct, disconnect the second computer from the network and proceed on to the next computer. If it changes, you only have two computers maps affected and it is simpler to correct at this point. Once all computers have correct maps, bring all online and all should be great.
4.       As I stated in the previous fix, make a copy of the networklib.xml file on at least on computer and use that one as your map base. If the map should go awry, you can replace the file after all of the other computers NM services have been stopped and the networklib.xml file has been deleted.
This looks more complicated than it is and I hope this helps.
John.h2h, two things that you may want to look at, I use a Brother laser printer for a network printer. The port address changed for whatever reason on my system. I had to open the printer properties on each computer and change the IP address to the correct one and the printer worked fine. Another place to look, and if this is the problem, Network Magic is only following rules. Do you have any DHCP address reserved in your router. I have assigned blockes of IP’s to the different types of hardware. Example, all desktops are assigned from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.109, laptops are from 110 to 129, cameras, network drives and printer are from 130 to 145, and game consoles are from 146 to 149. I know that Netgear has the ability to set these. If you do have it reserved, either delete this in your router or change it. If you reserve the address with the IP and Mac address that you want, make sure that your computer is set to obtain IP address automatically.
Good luck, denpag

Your response in this issue would be highly appreciable.
    Thanx in Advance.

    Dear e GURU,
I am MM consultant and I would like to share my experience with you in this regard. If you consult MM for theis issue, they will see the configuration in thier own domain, which probably be correct. However, my suggestion is you look into the possibility of any BADI used recently by either MM of other modules and you might get the clue to the solution.
    Hope ot works for you.

  • Creating a device type for Chinese Simplified

    Hello Gurus ,
i have a question regarding Device types. We recently bought a Chinese Simplified Font Flash USB and we installed it on an HP Laserjet 4515. In windows mode the printer is printing chinese correctly . But in SAP i didnt found how to make it print. I was searching for OSS notes but i couldnt find something relevant.
So i copied the device type for the printer , which is HPLJ4000 and i set the character set to 8416 which is (Printer HP LaserJet PCL-5 series Simplified Chin) .
Unfortunately this didnt work , i also tried other char sets but the problem remains . Did anyone had this problem before ?
Best thanks for an idea !
    regards,
    david

I'm not really sure if you can transport it... but you can export it to file and imported in the target system
SPAD -> Full Administration -> Device Type -> select the device -> Edit -> Transfer -> Export.... same in the target system but Import.
    Hope that help.

    Hello,
Try using HP Laserjet 4 series PCL-5 driver for the printer you have mentioned.
Otherwise you can customize your own drivers with needed controls, formats, etc macthing the cheque printing.

  • PRINTER TRAY CONTROL/SELECTION WITH SAPSCRIPT USING ZTROYMIC DEVICE TYPE

We are printing checks using SAPscript in which we specify TRY02 for the overflow/invoice detail pages of  a check and TRY03 for the check itself, this is in order to use check stock only for actual checks and plain paper for the invoice detail pages.  As indicated above the device type to which we are printing is ZTROYMIC.  The device type was downloaded from note 94233, and is printing the MICR characters successfully however there was no Control Character Sequence provided for TRY03 in SPAD print controls.  The tray selection is not working correctly, I was given the following escape sequence, escape character & l 5 H, for TRY03 by TROY but not sure how to implement this in SPAD.  Should we pose this question directly to SAP?  Is tray selection supported for this device type?  If not how can we direct pages to correct tray otherwise?
    Your help is much appreciated,

  • Which device type support Unicode printing ?

    Hi all,
Do you know which cascading font device types support Customer-defined true type fonts ?
I use HP LaserJet printer. I've imported ZSWINCF device type in to SAP system and installed some true type fonts required for my report. It's able to print <b>Unicode </b>text in ABAP List but unable in SAPScript/Smartform printing.
I also try to use ZHPUTF8 or HPUTF8, and install these fonts. But i've problem in printing out.
Do you know how to resolve this problem ?
    Thanks,
    Best regards,

    Hi
see this OSS notes may be useful
    OSSNote:960341
    Symptom
In some device types (e.g HPLJ4, HPLJ5) you experience non-uniform character spacing in the PDF document after the PDF conversion of SAPscript or Smart Forms documents, using HELVE or TIMES fonts. You want to know the reason.
    Other terms
    CONVERT_OTF, SAPscript, Smart Forms
    Reason and Prerequisites
The problem is not due to an error in the PDF converter but due to the fact, that the printer font, underlying the device type (e.g. Univers or CG Times in PCL-5 device types), is not available for the PDF converter and is either not available in Adobe Reader. The PDF converter has to try to simulate the layout of the printer font by means of a font which is predefined in Adobe Reader. This is done by assigning the letter widths of the printer font to the font used in Adobe Reader.
The PDF file contains a table with letter widths, used by Adobe Reader in the output of text, for each used printer font (except PostScript fonts).
    Example:
    %Charwidth values from HP4300 HELVE 060 normal
    /Widths
    [ 278 333 500 633 633 1000 758 333 333 333 633...
Adobe reader converts this width table, by modifying the space between each character, so that the specified letter width (= space between the current and the next letter) is kept.
This 'Simulation' of printer fonts results in the sometimes visible irregular spaces in PDF.
The PDF converter always uses the Helvetica Adobe PostScript font for the display of HELVE and the Times Roman Adobe PostScript font for the display of TIMES. However, for these Adobe PostScript fonts, Adobe Reader often uses a Windows TrueType font, which differs slightly from the original PostScript font.
    Solution
Workaround: Use the POST2 PostScript device type or the PDF1 PDF device type for the PDF conversion of documents in the Latin-1 character set. They both use the Adobe PostScript fonts Helvetica or Times Roman for the HELVE/TIMES printer fonts.

Documents printed via SAPscript or SmartForms do not print with correct special characters, e.g. ### prints instead of Japanese or Russian characters. What to do?
    Other terms
SAPscript, SmartForms, printing, device types, OTF
    Reason and Prerequisites
Help required to choose proper fonts in a SAPscript or SmartForm
    Solution
When using SAPscript or SmartForms to print (or email or fax) a form from a business application, many factors influence the outcome of the actual text within the form. All these factors must be checked in order to ensure a correct printout:
    1) The language version of the form used to produce the printout.
Example: If you want to print a French invoice, you need to have a FR version of your SAPscript or SmartForms invoice form RVINVOICE01. And the application program must specify the corresponding language key (FR) when calling the SAPscript or SmartForms API.
    2) The font selections specified in the form (possibly also in a SAPscript style or SmartStyle used in a form).
Example: In a SAPscript form or a SmartStyle you need to specify HELVE if you want to print German text in Helvetica (or similar) font. If you want to print Japanese text, HELVE is not a valid choice but you need to specify a Japanese font like JPMINCHO in your Japanese form.
    3) The output character set of the device type
Every printer in transaction SPAD has a "device type" assigned. Device types used by the spooler for printing support only one single specific output character set. All text from the form has to be converted (using SAP's built-in character conversion mechanism) to this output character set.
A character set can typically support either a single language (e.g. Shift-JIS which supports only Japanese) or a set of languages (e.g. ISO 8859-1, which supports Western-European languages). It is possible that a given language (such as German) can be supported by several output character sets, e.g. you may use either ISO 8895-1 (Latin-1) or ISO 8859-2 (Latin-2) to represent German text. This is so because both character sets contain the special characters used in German.
Example: HPLJ4000 is a HP LaserJet device type supporting the ISO 8859-1 (Latin-1) character set. ISO 8859-1 can be used to represent e.g. Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish, Swedish but NOT Russian or Japanese.
As a consequence, it is ok to use HPLJ4000 to print English, German French etc. but not for Japanese or Russian.
    4) The set of available printer fonts for a given device type
When formatting a document, SAPscript and SmartForms perform an automatic mapping of the font definitions in the form (e.g. "HELVE 14 point bold") and the available printer fonts of the device type. A replacement printer font is chosen, should the specified font selection not be available in the device type. Now this replacement can be problematic if a language-specific font, such as Chinese CNSONG, is specified in a form and it gets replaced by a font which does not support this language, e.g. COURIER.
To solve this problem, font families in SE73 have language attribute assigned, e.g. some fonts are characterized as being suitable only for certain languages. And when a replacement has to be chosen because the original font from the form is not available in the device type, a replacement font is chosen which has the same language attributes.
If no fonts for the language in question exist in the device type, the resulting font will not be able to print the special characters and you will see "wrong" output characters in the printout.
    Note on SAPscript/SmartForms Print Preview:
The OTF Print Preview available in Windows GUI (e.g. from transaction SP01) will sometimes not show the "wrong" characters which appear on the final printout. Here is the reason: since the Print Preview runs in Windows environment, it will use Windows fonts to represent the actual printer fonts. A Windows font typically has more available characters (i.e. covers more character sets) than are actually available in a printer's resident font.
A typical example where the Print Preview will differ from the printout is here: if you have a Chinese PCL5 printer such as CNHPLJ4 and use the Western Latin font COURIER in your document, the print preview will show you Chinese characters if you (by accident) tried to format Chinese characters in COURIER font. This is because Windows will automatically choose a font that can output Chinese characters (which is actually not Courier). But when you print the job on an actual PCL5 printer with resident Western and Chinese fonts, the Courier font will not print any Chinese characters but Western special characters instead, because the printer's resident Courier font does not include Chinese characters.
Rule of thumb: all Asian device types (e.g. CNHPLJ4, JPHPLJ4, JPPOST, KPHPLJ4) support not only Asian fonts but also COURIER, HELVE and TIMES fonts. But these Latin fonts can only be used to print English text, not Chinese/Japanese/Korean characters.
Which fonts are suitable for a given language?

Verify your output by examining the OTF data
When analysing printing problems of this type, be sure to check the OTF data which gets produced by SAPscript or SmartForms. OTF or "Output Text Format" is the intermediate page-description format generated from SAPscript or SmartForms. OTF will contain the final printer font names and character set/language identifiers which help to solve the problem. OTF will even name the form and the language of the form used to create the output.
The easiest way to do this is to create a spool request from your application, run transaction SP01, use menu
    Goto->Display Requests->Settings
    and choose
    Display Mode: Raw
Now display your spool request. If this is a SAPscript or SmartForms spool request, you will see OTF data. Each line represents one OTF command, every command starts with a 2-character cmd identifier and possibly some cmd parameters follow.
Here is an excerpt from a sample OTF file where we highlight the most interesting commands:
    //XHPLJ8000    0700 00000000001

The 1st line with the // (Control) command reveals the device type usedto print: HPLJ8000
    //XHPLJ8000    0700 00000000001
The 2nd line (IN = Info command) shows the name and (internal 1-char)language key of the form:
    IN04EALEXTEST_ZEBRA
In this case it is the English (E = EN) SmartForm ALEXTEST_ZEBRA
The OP-line (OP = Open Page) gives the page format used in the form, it is DINA4 Portrait orientation:
    OPDINA4  P 144  240 1683811906000010000100001
The CP (CodePage) cmd shows the SAP system codepage used to code the text and the active language. In our case it is codepage 1100 and language E = EN = English.

Finally, the FC-cmd (Font Call) lists a printer font selected within SmartForms. Please note that every SmartForm has a designated default SmartStyle under "Form Attributes->Output Options". In addition, every text node can have a SmartStyle attached (which will override the definitions from the default style for the text). In our case the resulting printer font that was selected is HELVE 12.0 pt bold-off, italic-off.

  • Device Type for EPSON TM-U220

    Hi All,
We are using EPSON TM-U220 dot matrix printer. Can anybody tell me which device type should be used for this? How to find a appropriate device type for a printer? Where we can get this info? I have selected EPESCP and its not printing the way how its appearing in the preview. I tested with SAPWIN too, same problem I have faced with SAPWIN too.
    Thanks in advance.
    Hernando

is correct, the printer is set up in the Tx SPAD, we tested several device types, but none has proved effective, as reported, the preview is fine but when printing it is so wrong. My question is, If you have used this type of printer, if so what kind of device type are you used?
    Thanks

  • WFMC_PREPARE_SMART_FORM - device type problem

    Hi,
I have created the logical destination "ZMAIL" to send a mail for vendor address.
It's working fine in ME21N/ME22N. if we go to ME9F then it's goes to print it's not sending a mail.
    I'm using the FM "WFMC_PREPARE_SMART_FORM".
In ME21N/ME22N, pe_device value is 'MAIL'
In ME9F, pe_device valie is 'PRINTER.' (It's wrong)
On what basis, This function module select the device type. how to change it.
    Thanks with Regards,
    Vallamuthu M

    Hi,
Try to check the FM logic for ME9F execution, i can see that there is a call to one FM ADDR_GET_NEXT_COMM_TYPE to get the communication type based on the TCODE (different Communication Strategy's can be defined in SAP). And then based on the communication type your Communiation device can be determined in another FM - CONVERT_COMM_TYPE_DATA.
Hope it can help you to understand the problem.

  • Error - Device type unsuitable for ADS documents

    Hi,
I have created a print form using transaction SFP and i am doing test from transaction SFP
    (Test function module )
    /1BCDWB/DOCPARAMS
    YCTC                                  0000000000
    YCTCUSAGE                             0000000000
Once i press f8 system asking for printer,  then i have given printer name as LOCL and select print preview. then system giving error as
Cannot find PDL type for output device locl and Device type unsuitable for ADS documents
Can i anybody give info what i am doing wrong.
I have tested with FP_TEST_03 that also giving the same error

    Hi,
I have tried with LP01 and with some other printers in the network its giving error that "Call contained error (02)"
    I tried with all FP_TEST*
    but no results

  • Mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on floppy

Since I switched to kernel 2.6.1, I can no longer mount floppys.
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/floppy/0,
or too many mounted file systems
I thought some filesystems might be compiled wrong, or the fstab is not OK, but I can't find any mistake.
If some prof could have a look, I am sorry for the long quotes.

What about the ext3 floppies? I have no problem with vfat ones, I can mount them as you mention but when I try to mount ext3 floppies as a regular user I get:
    [florin@guns /mnt]$ mount /mnt/floppy
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/fd0,
or too many mounted file systems
    [florin@guns ~]$ mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
mount: only root can do that
    [florin@guns ~]$ mount -t ext3 /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
mount: only root can do that
I can mount an ext3 floppy as root:
    [root@guns /mnt]# mount /mnt/floppy
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/fd0,
or too many mounted file systems
    [root@guns /mnt]# mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
    [root@guns /mnt]# cd floppy/
    [root@guns /mnt/floppy]# ls
    lost+found  test
What am I missing here? What should I do to be able to mount ext3 floppies as a regular user too?
