Wrong DPI/Huge Font Intel card

Can anyone help me with this? When I start GDM the dpi is messed up and Fonts are unusually huge. I tried everything listed in http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … Size.2FDPI but adding "Load "ddc"' doesn't work, I guess /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc is ignored by GDM because it didn't work either. DisplaySize is also ingnored by Xorg. And adding  "Option   "NoDDC" "true"" causes my LCD to not recognize the server output at all with an "Invalid Format" Error Message.
the olny thing xrandr does is alter xdpyinfo output, but the screen looks the same.
I the quick and dirty fix of setting the fonts to size "2" but Firefox icons look horribly wrong.
Heres a screenshot to get the Idea.

Thanks
P.S. I looked arround for other solutions but I couldn't find anything useful to me.

When you say "I've tried all", have you also tried adding
Option "UseEdidDpi" "false"
Option "DPI" "96 x 96"
to your Monitor section in xorg.conf?
If that doesn't work, post your xorg.conf.
I tried your solution but it didn't work.

  • Gnome splash screen and gtk-apps in awesome huge fonts.

    Hi all,
I installed awesome wm the other day and for some reason all GTK-apps have huge fonts. GDM and the gnome splash screen have the same issue. I'm thinking this is a DPI issue but I wouldn't know where to start looking. Could someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks.

In the meantime I swapped over to KDEMOD again, but I am still not satisfied. I prefer a mix of QT and GTK+ applications, and whatever I tried, they just do not look the same if running them in KDE or XFCE4.
Maybe I should try running a WM instead of a DE, after some reading I am very tempted to go for Openbox.
Can somebody running just a WM comment on the results, when mixing QT & GTK+ apps?
I use Openbox and don't have any ugly looking apps. Granted, I think the only QT app I use is opera though

Suddenly this printer is printing everything in a huge font - I've reset the printer, checked the default settings, etc.  It does this in every program.  I have over a hundred of these printers and have never seen this issue - any ideas?

    Hi there,
Could you provide the community with a little more information to help narrow troubleshooting? What operating system are we running and does this happen with all applications or just one?

  • Firefox displays gmail in huge font but other web sites show it in regular fonts

when I open gmail in Firefox it has just started coming up in huge fonts so that i can only see part of the screen. When I open gmail in Internet Explorer or AOL, it comes up just fine and I can see the whole screen. How can I restore the Firefox display to normal?

PERFECT. Many thanks for the prompt response.

  • Please help. Does anyone have a solution re: After the latest update my display has really huge fonts and is unusable

After the latest update my display on my iphone has really huge fonts and is unusable.
I can't even get the swipe bar.

The easiest way to turn off the zoom accessibility feature is to connect your phone to iTunes on your computer.  In the Summary pane, click the "Configure Universal Access..." button.  On the next screen, under "Seeing", select "Neither" and click OK.

  • Intel card uses Cisco PEAP supplicant

I have installed an Intel card on a PC running XP which also has the Cisco drivers installed. When I set up the Intel card to use PEAP, it also uses the Cisco PEAP supplicant, instead of the XP PEAP supplicant.
Any comments from a technical and licensing viewpoint?

The Cisco Peap supplicant will overwrite the Microsoft PEAP.
That is the reason why it uses the Cisco PEAP supplicant.
Microsoft upgrades may wipe out Cisco PEAP implementation.

  • PLEASE HELP!!! Installed huge font collection now the whole system crashed

I seriously need someone's help on this!! I downloaded a huge fonts collection (over 50,000 fonts) and copied them all into the System/Library/Fonts folder. Now the computer doesn't respond to ANYTHING!! It takes over 5 minutes to start up, whenever I try to open any type of program or folder, the multi-color wheel starts to go and nothing happens, even after over 30 minutes!! PLEASE I have extremely important work on my computer, I NEED to solve this without formatting the whole thing..

    gilles --
These are the ones that should be in your SYSTEM > Library > Fonts folder:
    AppleGothic.ttf
    Geneva.dfont
    HelveLTMM
    Helvetica LT MM
    Helvetica.dfont
    HelveticaNeue.ttc
    Keyboard.ttf
    LastResort.ttf
    LucidaGrande.ttc
Menlo.ttc (the new default font for Terminal)
    Monaco.dfont
    Times LT MM
    TimesLTMM
It's really important not to ever fool with SYSTEM fonts.
    Adding or deleting.
After you get rid of all but the above list in your SYTEM Library Fonts,
you can go back if you want and reinstall the extras that were originally installed in that folder.
They're not necessary, but then you would have a pristine SF folder.
Read this when you have recovered:
    http://www.jklstudios.com/misc/osxfonts.html
by our font guru, Kurt Lang.
Loading 50,000 fonts is a terrible idea.
But if you feel you HAVE to, put them in your USERS>Library>Font folder.
    All the best.
You came really close to killing your Mac.
    Best of luck!

  • System Update Stalls at WiFi Driver for Intel Cards

T510, XP 32bit. Running system update, it has now been stuck on the "WiFi Driver for Intel Cards (For windows xp 32bit)" installation going on 4 hours+ now.  This has happened with like model's / OS and the result is usually to force a reboot. And manually install it. Any suggestions why system update takes hours to install the WiFi Driver for Intel Cards (For windows xp 32bit)?

Then don't try and install it. Uninstall the device and shutdown. Once you reboot it should rediscover and attempt the driver installation. It you're have trouble with the same driver package. Delete it/remove it and download it again and deoompress the package. Be sure it's the right on for the OS and device.
You may have to work in safe mode to clean this up.

  • Dpi or font size being automatically set somewhere - hidpi screen

    Hi All,
I think this is a feature but I'd like to override it...
The feature, something is detecting I have a high res screen and automatically increasing my font size.
That's a really niice feature, only issue is when I plug an external screen and use that as my primary display, my font sizes are huge and xrandr command to set the dpi are being ignored.
Perhaps it's not a DPI setting but a font setting, because only my fonts in gtk and kde4 apps are large, while fonts in kde5 apps (with a broken look/theme) are fine.
Using i3, there is mention that i3 has automatic HiDPI support, perhaps that's what's tinkering with my DPI. How would I override it then?
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HiDPI
Primary display is 1920x1080 on 12.5" screen. I use  xrandr --auto --dpi 96 command when just using this display.
At work I use a 21" display also 1920x1080 res. I use xrandr --output HDMI1 --mode 1920x1080 --right-of eDP1 --dpi 96 when using both displays.
    ~ xdpyinfo | grep -B 2 resolution
    screen #0:
      dimensions:    1920x1080 pixels (508x285 millimeters)
      resolution:    96x96 dots per inch
    Any ideas?

Not sure what was adjusting my fonts, but I managed to resolve it by install plasma-desktop, open systemsettings5 and tick force fonts DPI to 96.
Hardly ideal (but at least its something for now), as I now have additional KDE applications installed.

  • What is wrong with my font? Squares instead of letters - Help!

Can someone tell me what is wrong with my system font? Everytime I need to put my administrator key the login page will appear but with weird glitched font of squared A's all around (see picture).  I can't recall that I have done any installations that would mess with it.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Regards,

You have a bad System Font.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Once Disk Reports OK, reinstall the OS.

  • Intel cards and aironet problems

I have SSIDs configured on 1231's to support WPA/WPA2. They work fine with Cisco cards/supplicants but intel proset cards (2915ABG for one / I tried the latest drivers from dell and intel) seem to have issues. They will see the SSID and associate, but never pull down an IP address. ACS server shows it as a passed authentication, the AP shows it as associated and not authenticated. The AP config is below. Can anyone offer any suggestions or explanations? Thanks!
    ssid <ssidname>
    vlan <vlan#>
    authentication open eap eap_methods
    authentication network-eap eap_methods
    authentication key-xxxx
    accounting acct_methods
    broadcast-key vlan <vlan#> change 600
encryption vlan <vlan#> mode ciphers aes-ccm tkip

I ran into a similar problem on one of my ssid's using the Intel client. That particular ssid is configured for WPA-PSK (TKIP + AES). It turns out the Intel client profiles have a check mark for "personal security" or "enterprise security". For some reason mine would not work with personal security selected. When I enabled enterprise security and selected WPA and TKIP (WPA)it works fine. It does not make sense but that fixed my problem.

  • Wrong DPI on iPad

    Hi,
I have recently updated to AIR 4.0 from AIR 3.6, but now the DPI is wrong on iPad (3, with retina display).
