WRT54G Wi-fi connects but no net access
Okay, I've tried everything I can think of. I sincerely hope someone here can help me with a walk-through (Imagine I'm in the fifth Grade)on fixing this problem. I just recently got internet through Cox communications. I have two computers set up right now. One in the oliving room, one in my bedroom office. THe living Room Computer is a Dell Desktop running windows XP. THe office computer is a homebuilt Desktop running Windows XP. THis router is connecte dto the living room computer. The internet is running through it. THe bedroom computer can pick up the signal and connect to the router, but the internet refuses to work. The DNS suffix for the living room computer is tu.ok.cox.net. The DNS suffix is missing from the ip configuration of the office computer. Ipconfig /release /renew does nothing to fix the dns suffix. I tried pinging yahoo.com but it doesn't ping. I don't know what to do, I'm at my wits end witht his thing. I've reset the router, the modem, turned off the computers, reset the router to factory defaults..still nothing..it doesn't want to let my office computer connect to the internet. PLEASE HELP! I've downloaded the linksys firmware upgrader, but it says my router isn't compatible. Below is tyhe living room Dell desktops ip configuration.

get into the basic setup in the web-based config pages. Check out the DHCP server enable/disable and the Start IP address Are you sure you haven't crossed the wires to the living room PC? This info that you gave, looks as if the the PC is wired directly to the DSL/cable modem and the router is not being used: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : tu.ok.cox.net Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connecti on Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-11-11-86-70-A1 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 70.185.195.109 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.248.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 70.185.192.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 172.19.57.19 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 68.105.28.11 68.105.29.11 68.105.28.12

VPN connects but unable to access resources on remote network
HI,
I'm able to ping the ASA interface once the VPN is connected but unable to access any of the resources located on the remote network such as shares and computers. The cisco vpn client shows data being sent and recieved when I ping the interface on the ASA but it doesn't recieve any data when I attempt to ping or access other resources on the network.

I have just bought a iPad 2 WI-FI 16G today. I have a full WI-FI connection but can't access the App store or Safari for any webpages, can anyone help?
Thanks!!!!Despite what you call, "a full WiFi connection", you may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPad a valid local network IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power to the router for 30 seconds and then restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc. -
I can't access my itunes store, it says I don't have an internet connection but I do. I tried updating to the newest version of itunes, turned off my firewall, checked to make sure itunes was allowed in my internet options. what else can i do?
Hello bigblue8
Check out the following articles for troubleshooting access to the iTunes Store. The first one will probably get you started enough to get it taken care of. If it does not the follow up article should definitely solve it for you.

JetPack 4G LTE connects but "no internet access" message
Would appreciate any help.
My JetPack 4G LTE mi-fi connects to the internet (3G or 4G) and shows that my devices are connected to it. However, I cannot get on the internet.
1) I have three different devices - two laptops and a smartphone. All three have the same problem.
2) I have a Sprint Mi-Fi that I use for a different business. All three devices can and do connect to that device and work properly on the internet during the same sessions in which they cannot connect on the Verizon JetPack. So it is not the devices I am trying to connect with.
3) The exact same thing has happened several times over the course of about 4 days and in two cities and two states - all three devices unable to connect via JetPack but connect fine through Sprint Mi-Fi. So it is not location or local network issue.
4) LED display on JetPack, in all instances, show a strong 3G or 4G (depending on where I am) signal and also that all three devices are connected.
5) Message on laptop wireless area shows connection but says "no internet access".
6) Under the wireless status or details, it says (on the list of info): "IPv4 no internet access" and "IPv6 no internet access".
7) I have done a battery pull with no effect.
8) I have done a factory reset (power up, remove cover, press reset button until long green light and short green light) with no effect.
9) After both battery pull and factory reset, I still show connected to 3G, all three devices connected, no internet access, and all three devices then work on the Sprint mi-fi.
10) Symptoms started about 4 days ago and have not changed since - it is not a come-and-go problem. It is not working at any time.
I am hoping to gosh to avoid a long ordeal with tech-support at Verizon. This is a company-issued device, so I could ask my company to take it up with Verizon, but I work remotely and access to the IT department is not that simple either. thought I would see if I am missing something simple. I hope I've given enough info for someone brighter than myself here can spot something I could do.
Thanks in advance for any help.Thank you for your response. I am having trouble logging back into this site to respond (I never created a User ID and don't know my cell phone number as it is a mi-fi and not a cell). I reregisterd for the forums only under a slight ID variation and will continue to do so for this dialog. Thanks very much.
The back of the Jetpack says SSID: "MiFI4620L Jetpack 89B4". I am currently using the device (since the problems began last week) in zip codes 49504 and 49503 - same symptom both places.
Thanks again. -
ASA 5505 IPSEC VPN connected but can't access to LAN
ASA : 8.2.5
ASDM: 6.4.5
LAN: 10.1.0.0/22
VPN Pool: 172.16.10.0/24
Hi, we purcahsed a new ASA 5505 and try to setup IPSEC VPN via ASDM; i just simply run the Wizards, setup vpnpool, split tunnelling, etc.
I can connect to the ASA by using cisco VPN client and internet works fine on the local PC, but it cannot access to the LAN (can't ping. can't remote desktop). I tried the same thing on our Production ASA(those have both Remote VPN and Site-to-site VPN working), the new profile i created worked fine.
Below is my configure, do I mis-configure anything?

All ohter PCs and switches gateway are point to another ASA, maybe that's the reason why i didn't work?
what's the recommanded way to make our LAN to have two 2 gateways(for load balance or backup router, etc)?
add two gateways to all PCs and swtichwes?

I'm showing a strong wi-fi connection but can't access web?
I have a strong WI-FI connection but when I go to access a website it won't open?Any suggestions to fix problem would be appreciated. I've already tried the reset network settings route but that only worked temporarily.
You may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPad a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart).
Wifi connected but cannot get access to internet
Dear all
I have my macbook pro with ma os x mountain lion10.8.2
bu I have a problem with connection
when you activate the wifi it show WIFI CONNECTED
But umpossible to get acces to internet, why?
Someone can hel meShutdown the computer.
Power off the router. Wait a while.
Power on the router. Wait until all the lights are lit properly.
Start up the computer. Try to connect to Internet.
Best. -
I have a new ipod touch and it shows I have a wi fi connection, but I am not able to connect to the internet.
Any suggestions?Try this first. In Settings > WiFi: Turn wi-ff, then turn it back again. If this does not work try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
If you have never been able to connect and are using WPA security, make sure your password is correct. If you are using WEP security, you're wasting your time as WEP is hackable in less than 30 seconds. And the iPod often has problems with WEP.
In any case, if you can't get it to work at home, try it in a place with free wi-fi. If it works there the problem is probably with your router (this can be the case even if your router works with other equipment). -
Wifi is connected but i cannot access websites can you help?
Hello - My wifi is connected but my ipod will not load any web sites. Can someone help?
- Reset the iPod. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
= Power off and then back on your router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

WRT54GS V4.0 Laptop Connects But can't access internet unless I am in DMZ mode.
This is recent. I've changed no settings or otherwise done anything to block access, but I've had this problem 2 times now, and I'm beginning to think the router is crapping out on me.
Here's why I know it is not the laptop Wifi that is the problem... When I am connected to the router, I CAN access the router administration pages, but I can't access anything on the internet itself unless the modem is in DMZ mode(I have to put it into DMZ mode and then power cycle the router). If the modem is in DMZ mode, I have no problems.
This only happens with the Wireless connection. On my desktop I have no such problems either way.
I have been using this router since January of this year and have not had any issues until recently when I would occasionally have to reset the laptop's connection to this router, and now this issue.
Note: after it happened the first time, I took my laptop over to the in-laws house and I had no issues for the entire day that I was using the laptop. I come back here to my router and start having issues again.
P.S. I use Ethereal (wireless security monitor) to determine what channels others are using within my range and have set mine to different channels that do not conflict with others, but still no change.

Message Edited by jokieman on 11-25-200601:05 PMHi.. What are the DNS serves that are assign to your laptop when you have this issue? Are they public or private? Are you able to ping to any of these DNS server?
You should have public DNS server assign to your laptop. and you should be able to ping to that DNS server to make sure that you have internet connection. If you dont have public dns server, try to ping to 4.2.2.2 (a very common dns server) if you are able to ping to this, then assign this dns to your laptop. you should be online.
Also try to upgrade the firmware on the router. -
VPN Connects but unable to access internal devices
Thank you in advance for any assistance that can be provided.
I am using AnyConnect to create a VPN with an ASA 5505. Once connected, the client needs to access a device behind a 1941 router.
Internally, (not using VPN), all my routing is working correctly. My VPN client can connect and when I put a route on my 1941 router, I am able to ping that particular device. But my VPN client cannot appear to ping anything else, either the devices on the same internal range as the ASA 5505 or anything past the 1941.
VPN Client ASA 5505 Workstation 1941 Router Far Device
192.168.201.20 -----> Outside IP x.x.x.x // Internal 192.168.101.1 192.168.101.56 192.168.101.2 // 192.168.8.1 192.168.8.150
Client connects and get IP from ASA
Cannot ping this Cannot ping this
Can ping internal IP of 1941

Can anyone explain why airport connects but no Net connection?
greetings all, i have a small and what i hope is an easy problem to solve..
my parents have wi-fi as well as my brother in his home, all i do on my macbook pro is turn airport on and it connects seemlessly..and i'm on google in 2 sec's...
but WHEN i go to my brothers house.. airport finds the network and jumps on it instantly and i have full service strenght. but no matter what i can't connect to any web pages,, they time out and i get a msg stating that i'm not connected to the internet... i eve tried my email prgram and nothing..all other net app's fail too..
how can this be if airport is finding the network? neither my parents nor brother have their network protected i.e. no WAP or WEP ect... so what is the deal?
even tho i'm connected on airport its like i'm not.. my brother has linksy's router and his sony viao jumps on it wit no problem at all!
anyone have any ideas or what i can do?
oNe
p.s. at my home which is an apartment there are several "open" networks and again the macbook finds them and jumps on them wit no problem... but i stick to my plug in net connection for security reasons...can't trust open networks.. sides my parents and brother i guess..
macbook pro 17" pimp ish Mac OS X (10.4.2) it came stock..I wish that was the answer, but it doesn't seem to be the case. I have a Linksys wireless router in my office with no other users and no security provisions installed. Most days, I can bring my Laptop in and connect right away. Other days, like today, it simply will not connect, despite having a full four bars showing. If I go into Internet Connect, it confirms that I am connected to Linksys. However, when it fails to open any Internet page, I get the terrible message "You Are Not Connected to the Internet." I am then prompted to open "Network Diagnostics" to solve the problem, which it never does. Obviously, someone needs to introduce "Internet Connect" to "Network Diagnostics" since they clearly have never met.
I have experienced this situation in other locations, so it clearly is not limited to the one router. While I am ordinarily a big Mac fan, this problem drives me stark raving mad. Being a simple person, I just cannot fathom how a computer can be connected to the Internet, but...not...connected...to...the...Internet. Since I don't own any firearms, shooting my computer is out of the question and I don't really want to hurl it into the ocean. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Wifi connection but 'No Internet Access'
We recently had BT fibre optic BB fitted and all seemed well on the day. However very quickly devices using the wifi started to have only intermittent ‘connection’. The devices show as having a good/strong signal, yet are often unable to access the internet, and in the case of our lap tops when we can not get online they say ‘Connected’ to the wifi but they also say ‘No Internet Access’. The iPad minis we have also show as connected, with good signal, but just will not access the internet.
The issue is intermittent and has no set pattern. At one point all devices are connected, sometimes one or two aren’t, sometimes none are. When they will not connect we have to move them into the room where the hub is and wait for them to reconnect. We are talking about 2 laptops, 2 iPad minis, 2 smart phones and 2 Xbox 360’s, as well as my PC (which is connected via ethernet cable). So I doubt I'm overworking the hub, especially as my old router worked (just) with this amount of devices and that was on a basic non fibre optic BB.
When the engineer connected us he set the internet up in the study, which is at one end of our house, as that is where the master phone point and my PC are. He connected the PC via Ethernet cable and I connected an iPad mini wirelessly (whilst sat next to the hub). He did not check anything else worked or check if we had coverage in the whole house. I do have a phone point in the hall, which is in the middle of the house, but he did not offer to connect to this point, or suggest that may offer better coverage in my house.
My frustration with this is compounded by the fact I had a basic Netgear wireless router running on a bog standard Virgin Media BB connection, never stronger than about 3 megs, that covered the whole house from exactly the same spot as the Homehub.
I have tried adding a plug in signal booster (as suggested on another thread), and that has helped with the overall strength of the signal in the rooms furthest from the hub, but it does not stop this ‘connection’ issue.
Can someone help with suggestions regards settings on our devices or the hub, I did wonder if it was due to the dual frequencies the hub uses, or regards getting someone out to look at this. I am at my wits end already, and I have only had BT BB 5 days.
Thanks in advance. From reading your original post, the issue doesn't seem to be wth wireless signal strength - your devices are connected to wireless but just can't make an internet connection, correct?
In my experience there are a number of reasons why this can happen:
1. Your device has a fixed IP address and it's on a different subnet from the router. Are your devices configured for static IP addresses or DHCP? The BT Home Hubs use 192.168.1.x as the default subnet. To be honest, it doesn;t sound like this is your problem if they work when moved to a different location, but best to check.
2. Your hub isn't connected to broadband. You should be able to see this from the 'b' light on the hub. Again, doesn;t sound like your problem.
3. The device connects correctly to the wireles hub but fails to get an IP address. You can check IP address assignments on the hub itself by pointing your browser at bthomehub.home, going to Advanced Settings and then DHCP Table (this is for a HH3). You can also check the IP address assignment on your laptops, but I don't know what OS you're using so I can't tell you how to do that. If the device is failing to get an IP address then I'd try restarting the Hub.
4. Your devices are connecting to the Hub's BTWiFi network instead of your real network (this happens regularly with my iPhone and iPad). Force a reconnect to your real network.
Hope this helps! -
I have WiFi connection but no internet access HELP
I got the ipod touch 3rd generation two days ago at yesterday it was connecting fine but now when i try to connect it shows that i have good WiFi signal but no actual internet connection because when i try to load app world or Safari it wont let me. I have reset my router several times and reset my network settings on my ipod but still nothing. My computer and laptop are both working fine with the internet. However, my sister also has the same ipod and she has the same problem but she resets it once and it works but her ipod has not been updated in a long time and mine has the latest software. HELP ME PLEASE!!!
You may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (not reset - to restart remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages. Check for a firmware update for your router on the manufacturer's support web pages. See the documentation that came with your router on how to install.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, and how you have it configured.

New computer, new iTunes?
I bought a new computer recently. I currently have iTunes 6.0.5.20 on my laptop, but I want to move it to my new system. The problem I suspect is that the CD that came with my 30G iPod is likely an older version (of 6.0, but still, older). If I insta
