Zen Micro locked up on "Creative" scr

My new Zen Micro is locked up on the screen that just says "Creative". I can't get it to do anything. I've removed the battery and tried the recovery directions. It will get me to the recovery menu but after selecting a function it just sits there. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Happened twice on the first two I had... I have still, serious issues with my third. I am contemplating abandoning ship..

    My creative zen micro locks up on the 2nd creative logo when i attempt to start it up. I tried recovery mode. But when i click on format or something it brings up a little window saying formatting or something along that and just sits there. No my computer does not detect the mp3 player either.

    The same thing happened to me and I called the co. and they told me to send it in, (bad hard dri've)not only that the head phone jack was loose so i only got like half the sound, either high's or lows it sucked. I only had it for a month!!

  • Zen Micro Photo frozen on Creative scr

    Hi, I have had my Zen Micro Photo for three months and it has worked fine untill today. When I turned it on it went to the creative screen like it usually does and it just stayed there. I tried taking out the battery and putting it in again but it did the same thing. It doesn't even do anything when I hook it up to the computer. What can I do? I'm freaking out here please help me!!!!!!

    It could be that the microdri've is "stuck" or in failure.
    While the MicroPhoto is turned off, try tapping (well do it very firmly and with enough force) on the palm of your hand, restart the MicroPhoto and see if it boots up completely.
    If not, a firm smack on a table top or counter may unstick the heads of the microdri've if that is what's preventing the microdri've from completely booting up.

  • Zen Micro frozen on the creative scr

    My zen just froze at the creative startup screen and doesn't do anything after that. I tried resetting the battery, clean up mode and reboot. It just freezes again. I saw a lot of posts regarding zen freezing but no replies. can somebody help pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee? I did not want to reload the firmware because my computer doesn't recognize the zen either so then i would have no way to reload it on to there.

    Mine did this exact same thing... I ended up having to send it back..and im now waiting to get it back fixed!

  • Creative ZEN Micro Lock

    I have read many threads about the ZEN Micro locking up, i have one and it does lock-up!. im on bios .0.03 and i have narrowed the problem down to a problem with charging, strange as it may seem my player experiences MANY lockups when the battery is full. if i connect it using USB 2.0 when the battery is full is useless i cant get the computer to talk with it, the usb ding sounds to let me know its in but the player is not present and the sync software cannot communicate with it. when battery is used a little or flat then iits fine wierd. im going to try the bios 2.something flash and see what that does, i will let you know. by the way i have also changed the usb cable that came with it just in case! i have never had the player lock up on me during use. I love my zen micro but this is realy annoying and customers should not have to put up with problems, the competition is too steep where mp3 players are concerned. possible problems he or she might encouter are the last thing that makes the Buyer Decision Making proccess go the manufactuers way. hopefully im a one off and the problem will fix with the flash.

  • Zen Micro - Lock

    Why does the Zen Micro lockup so frequently?
    What is the permanent solution to this problem?
    I assume a firmware upgrade is due soon from Creative, if not the device is going back to the store!

    Neil I've been one of the ones that have had a bad experience with this player also. Mine locked up over 30 times in 2 days so I shipped it back to Amazon. I guess it's a matter of what you really feel the problem is. I'm not sure it is the firmware ... it may be a HD problem and I didn't want to take that risk. I was just so frustrated because I spent the better part of 2 days trying to get the thing to work.
    I'm not saying to send the player back right away. I've seen some posts here that I would try before making up my mind.
    It seems some have solved their problem by using a different USB cable cable when connecting it to their computer. Another has been that fully charging the battery overnight has solved their problems. Others have done a reset (To do a reset, pull the battery out and slide the power switch to the ON position and HOLD it there when re-inserting the battery.) There are a bunch of options in there to reset, reload firmware, etc..
    I did e-mail Creative support with my problem but by the time they got back to me, I had sent the player back. They did have a firmware attachment but I'm not sure if it was an upgrade or just the original firmware. I would say the best thing to do is play around with it as much as you can now and keep an eye on these boards. My patience lasted all of 2 days before I sent mine back... but I thought it was great for the short time I did have it working.
    I'm waiting a month or two to see if they work the problems out. If all is OK, I will probably buy it again.

  • Zen Micro locks

    I just got a new Zen Micro and everything seems fine until I select radio. After this is completely locks up. I had to remove the battery to turn it off. When the battery gets put back in the Zen goes to a Creative Labs screen and you can do nothing. I did the reset by putting the battery in while holding the powerr switch. This let me listen to mp3's I had copied over but then again when radio is selected it is locked up.
    Any idea of the problem or does it need to be returned. Less then hr of use on it so far!

    You could try loading a new firmware onto it, from the Downloads page (such as firmware version ..0). If you're still having problems after that, I suspect there is a hardware problem. It would be best to either have it replaced at the store, or to contact Customer Support and they'll be able to replace it for you.

  • ZEN Micro locking up, and wont "talk" to my

    I bought my ZEN micro about 30 days ago. It was working great until this am. I turned it on and it locked on the "Creative" logo. I tried removing the battery, but it did it again. Removing the battery waws the only way to make it cut off. I tried a "Scan disk" in recovery mode, but all it did was lock up while scanning. I cant get it to "talk" to my laptop via the USB and Im totally stumped. The bad thing is that I lost my dang Wal Mart reciept and I dont think they will take the thing back. Im at a total loss. The unit was working fine wednesday and I havetn used it since then, well this morning I tried.....
    Should I try to format it's
    The USB will give the unit power, but the computer doesnt show that its hooked up....
    Help?

    My micro is at the labs as we speak for warentee work. But this was not without scads of problems. I bought it at Wal mart and was told I had 90days to return it. (I'd had it like 30) so on day 3 I go into the store to get another and Im hit with the "new policy". That policy stated that all "digital music players" must be returned in 5 days. Not like everything else with 30 or 90 days, but 5. I asked when did they change this policy, and was told "about 3 weeks ago". So I said "well since I bought it under the old policy and was told I had 90 days, you have to honor that" I was told the policy was on the wall and it was too bad and it was "not their problem" and to "leave". I was polite talking to this manager, never raised my voice, no cursing or anything and I was told to leave! I was furious!
    SO I called the company (emailed the first time) and the guy was really nice, he told me that Wal-mart hadnt sold one of those in over a year according to his computer and was shocked I was able to buy one. But he tried to get me to reset it, (failed) and I explained that the email instructed me to this area where the instructions were posted and I did all I could.
    Long story short (too late), its at the "lab" now. It took them several days to even acknologe it was there and they havent sent me the first email (as promised) that they had it. So I wait. I sure hope they are able to fix it, I spent alot of money on that thing and I'd hate to think that it was a waste.

  • Zen Micro Locks Up!

    My first Zen Micro was a 5gb model. This developed headphone jack problems and was replaced by Creative in Sydney Australia with a 6gb USA model. This unit has now developed it's own problems. Every now and then when I switch the unit on all I get is a loud buzzing coming from the headphones. This can only be stopped by removing the battery. It also refuses to shut down at times also only repairable by removing battery. Today I switched it on and it started to play but no writing or anything was on the LCD screen, it was blank. Ive gone into rescue mode about 4 times but the problem remains. Just about had enough of Creative and wishing I had bought an Ipod instead. The thing runs out of warranty in about 0 days. Im afraid I will get another one and it will do the same thing.

    I have contacted Creative Customer Support and as usual all you get back is an automated email telling you to reboot this and reload that. I then contacted Creative in Sydney and they have told me to bring it in and they will swap it for another unit. If the next one does it I will demand a refund. I will have to check out a few Ipod forums to see if these peole are having the troubles Creative customers seem to have. I was going to ask for an upgrade to the Zen Microphoto but I can see by this forum that they are full of bugs as well. Technology is a wonderful thing.

  • Zen micro locked up on first plug

    Just got the zen micro. Plugged it in to charge and there should be a charging icon showing. NOPE. The LCD says creative, and the play/pause button is lit up. There is no control of anything. No buttons work. Tried the other battery, same thing. Brought up the cleanup, reboot menu but can't access anything because no buttons work. Any suggestions before I send it back? Thanks loads, Dg

    This is the first mp3 player I've ever bought. It is gorgeous and when I opened the box I knew I had made the right choice....that is until I tried to turn it on. It's a 250 dollar paper weight right now. I know that defects happen and that QC can't catch every defecti've product that heads out the door but it stinks when that defecti've product is yours. I've been soured on Creative all because I've had the worst out of the box experience of my life. I've pulled my hair out trying to figure out how to fix this thing. When I called tech support they were closed, and today they told me they'd "call me back". Is it me or do you feel like I'm getting a royal screw job?

  • Zen Micro locks up on the Shutting Down screen -intermittent prob

    Since buying the Zen Micro in December, it has failed to shut down after I push the shut down button. It shows the SHUTTING DOWN screen, but that stays on forever (until battery dies or I pull the battery). The problem is intermittent. Sometimes the unit shuts down correctly. After nothing would fix it, Creative sent a replacemnt. Well the replacement does the same thing. I just upgraded to the new Firmware that came out this week, but that didn't solve the problem. It must be something that I am doing wrong. There is no pattern to when it will shut down and when it won't (plugged in versus not, different batteries, different screens,etc). Has anyone else had this problem?

    I have contacted Creative Customer Support and as usual all you get back is an automated email telling you to reboot this and reload that. I then contacted Creative in Sydney and they have told me to bring it in and they will swap it for another unit. If the next one does it I will demand a refund. • Zen Micro, Screen stuck on Creative logo, free

    I was jogging recently and my Zen Micro fell off the pants clip i had on. When i picked my micro up off the ground the song i was listening to, was still playing, and played for another minute, before the micro shut off completely. It then would not turn on with the power button. So i removed the battery, and put it back in, and the micro came on, and the 'creative' logo was the only thing on my screen. With the logo on the screen, my micro wouldn't do anything, and just freezes. Anybody know how to resolve this predicament that im in? Or anybody have this happen to them, and know how to fix it's? I would appreciate any help i could get, Thank you in advance!

    You can always try removing the battery and seeing if it reboots correctly, after you tried the Rescue Mode options.
    The last option before sending the player in would be a firmware update.
    Cheers,
    Jan.

  • Zen Micro 6gb Stuck at "Creative" l

    First off, I realize there have been many topics relating to booting up and the screen freezing at the welcome creative screen. I just need to see what needs to be done, wether it be manually or by customer support. Recently on vacation, I dropped my Creative zen micro about 4 feet onto concrete. Now when i picked it up to check it out, there were no scratches or pieces that fell off. Also there was no rattling inside of the mp3 player. Later to my suprise, when turning it on, it froze at the "Creative" logo, and would not procede to go to the menu. I slapped it on my knee a couple times, nothing to serious, just seeing if anything that came loose, would set back in its place. Well it worked, don't ask me how, but it worked. I succesfully got to the menu and could listen to music. Well later, when I turned it back on I noticed it got stuck back at the creative screen. Somehow, when I put pressure on the mp3 player, something happened, and it booted back to the menu, like it would normally. Everything seemed fine, until about 3 days later it all happened again, but for good, its not going to the menu. All I see is a white screen with the black text that reads " Creative ". The only way to turn the player off, is to take out the battery, When plugged into my pc, it charges, and proceeds to glow in and out,.. but the screen light stays at a solid brightness, while the blue outlining fades in and out. I tried running all the options in the reboot menu, like format, and clean disk, but they all freeze up/ My pc recognizes the mp3 player, but the creative software I have installed does not. I tried updating the firmware, but it says my player is not connected. I thought about contacting customer support, but I notices that the seal is ripped, or "tampered" with. Its very easy top break the seal on accident, all you have to do is move the metal plate downward, and the seal ri
    ps.
    At this point, I just disassebled the player to see if there were any loose parts, and I noticed everything seemed to be in order, and I put it back together to find the same results as before. Well I have it disassembled again, with all the parts layed out. Any help would be great.
    Also, one last question.. Is there anyway I can reset the hardri've manually, as in, is there a little reset button on the hard-dri've that would format it's I have it in my hand, was just wondering if I could reset it.

    I started reading in this forum because my Zen Micro Photo freezed today . It left the bag of my trousers and hit the floor. I am now wondering how much people do have the same problem as me. My player was falling the first time from the height of my knees and it was turned off. Startup stucked on Creative screen.
    It seems to be that Creative harddisk players are especially vulnerable to hits like this. It is acceptable when it does not work anymore after hitting the floor 0 times. Or when it falls from a table. But already after the first time from a short height?
    I tried what administrators do not advise:
    Banging the player during startup. Reached music library. Had to bang two or three times more and all was okay. I am not sure for how long this will hold.

  • Zen Micro is detected by Creative MediaSource Organizer or Windows Media Pla

    <SPAN>Well, I have read through a good part of the message forum and have found nothing to help my case and I believe, truly believe that I have tried everything!
    <SPAN>
    <SPAN>My Zen Micro is detected by my computer and when plugged in I am prompted by MTP Media Player to

    <SPAN>Take no action</LI>

    <SPAN>
    <SPAN>I have checked my Device Manager and it says that the device is working properly, drivers are installed (this is the most common problem ? but for me this is the part that is working correctly).
    <SPAN>

    <SPAN>
    <SPAN>I should note that the Zen Micro does work properly on another computer in my household.

    <SPAN>Can someone please offer suggestions?
    <SPAN>Thanks

    Strange that WMP doesn't detect it, presumably you have v0? Worth checking the link "problems with connecting using MTP firmware" in the FAQ post and installing the hot fixes.
    Also make sure you have the latest software with MTP updates, by downloading and installing the following:
    . Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2
    2. Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices
    3. Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update
    Before installing connect the player to the PC. Then install 2 and 3 (the player must be connected for to verify you have a Creative product).
