5800 Cannot Hear Caller.. Phone to be exchanged ag...
Regular forum memeber may recall that I have an ongoing problem where at random I cannot hear the caller, but they can hear me.
I had a phone call from a young lady at Nokia UK today.
Guess what..I genuinely couldn't hear her.. it just so happened, that her call to me was affected by this problem.
I'm on to my second phone with this issue.
Nokia are now to do a doorstep swap on Monday.
Monday will be my third phone.
If it happens again then I'm at a loss.
I've tried everything I can possibly think of to try and identify why this is happening.
If it happens on the third phone, I think I'll sell it and buy something else.
After lots of workaround, what seems to be working for me so far was to disable call timing. I figured out that this was one of the things (should I say bugs?) I used to switch on after each of many hard resets attempting to fix the problem.
[Settings > Calling > Call > Show call duration > No].
Hope this helps.
(By the way, Nokia guys, I'm still waiting for the version 5 of the firmware for Colombia. Please release it and thanks in advance).

My phone was recently exchanged under warranty for a number of faults.. one of which was that on occasions, I cannot hear the caller, but they can hear me.
Hang up the call. the caller calls back and everything is OK.
So today, my exchanged phone did the same thing.
Is this another software bug ??
I've contacted Nokia to ask the same.It happened again today.. it seems to only happen if the phone has been without use for a number of hours.
Tuesday 6pm.. Cannot Hear Caller
Caller rang back.. all OK
No calls made or received for about 18 hours
Wednesday 12:00pm ... Cannot Hear Caller.
Caller rang back.. all OK.
Swiching to Handset (Speaker Phone) makes no differenece.. I still cannot hear the caller.
Have raised another Service Request with Nokia and am awaiting thier call back.
If I can hear them that is. -

I cannot hear calls with my iphone when I dial a number but I can hear when I put it on speaker. Any suggestions? Thanks Joe
I had the same problem like you. I can hear from the speaker, and when doing a recording and play back via the speaker. My iPhone 4 is out of warranty so I just got it fix at the small repair shop and cost me S$50. The repair guy did the above test and comfirm it is faulty of a small component, total tiem taken to fix my iPhone is about 10mins..

My Z10 is facing issue with calling. I cannot hear person who call me, but meanwhile the other side can hear me. I’ve tried everything to fix it, like swapped a battery bought from mpj, rebooted many times, and even did a factory reset. PLEASE HELP!
I would recommend downloading the BlackBerry Virtual Expert app from BlackBerry World and runnning through the tests to check if there is an actualy problem with your phone...

Answer phone, hear echo of self - cannot hear caller
About 6-times in the last 2-days I've answered my phone and could only hear myself echoing back to me. The caller could not hear me, and I could not hear the caller. The call ends when the caller gives up. I have powered the phone down, but that didn't clear it up.
Is this a known issue?Had something similar to this happen just yesterday.
I kept hearing the echo but the individual that I called said his reception was fine. Told him to hang up and I would call back.
When I called back, echo was still there but again, he could not hear it.
Today, I am not experiencing an echo on the calls that I originate.
Somebody once told me this is a phenomena that occurs when you get connected to two towers but I cannot confirm that one way or the other.
Normally hanging up and calling back does eliminate the problem but this time it did not work.

Phone rings but cannot hear caller on other end
I've only had my phone for a few days and something has gone terribly wrong! The phone seemed to be working fine until I downloaded the BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.152 (Multilanguage) update late last night. This morning I noticed while reviewing the ring tones already on the phone that I could not make them play, but I thought maybe I was doing something wrong because I was able to hear them when I first started using the phone.
Immediately after the software update I had to change the radio settings so that I could access the internet again (radio settings I think). Is there a setting on the phone I need to update, or something else I can do to resolve this?
Thanks very much in advance!
Solved!
Go to Solution. So, to be clear, it occurs, you pop the battery, things work fine for a while, then it occurs again, and you must again pop the battery?
Is that release of the device OS that you installed certified by your carrier? Or is it a leaked version? You can check your carrier's release here:
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
You might also try reloading the device OS -- something may have gone a bit wrong during the install last night.

Otherwise, if it persists, you should contact your carrier (if it was a sanctioned OS release) and let them know.

Nokia 5800 - cannot see caller contact name (one m...
This is a repeat of the question asked and seemingly "solved" here:
I'm starting a new topic cause the label for the topic mentioned above says "solved" in nice big green letters so people might miss this issue being raised again.
I have a 5800 XM (RM-356, software V51.0.006) with 250+ contacts...
The problem appears as in the case above, happens daily: I get a call from a number which is definitely in my contacts (phone memory, not SIM) but I still just get the number displayed and not the name of the caller.
Furthermore, if I then take the callers number as reported by my phone (with the '+' for international and all), and update the contact, nothing improves, same thing.
It gets better : my wife has the same number for her cell phone and home phone, with a different area code (smart, eh?). There Nokia definitely confuses the two, only if I erase one of them then I get her name when she is calling, though the numbers are definitely different, e.g.:
+38111XXXXXXX and +38165XXXXXXX (in the example the +381 is Serbia, and 11 and 65 are two different area codes).
This issue is driving me nuts, and not because I can't recognize my wifes number , but because of the OTHER 250+ business contacts that I get calls from daily!
I have tried everything, including doing a "hard reset" of the whole phone... not to mention it took me hours to get everything else but the contact list back to previous settings....
What is wrong here?
There has also been this advice on the Nokia forum :
unfortunately, tried all of it, and nothing worked.
To further complicate the matter, this problem appears only for a fraction of the numbers in my contact lists = some contacts I see names just fine when they call, and some I cannot get to show up no matter what...
Many thanks for all your help!It is simply multiple entries, as you have no doubt read about, for example if you entered all your wifes numbers just to your wifes name, but as individual details they would work. So say the contact is Wife, select option edit, add detail, then you can have Mobile , home and work numbers all attached to that one contact, and caller id will work, as long as you don't have several of her work colleagues as contacts with the same works number, the failure of caller id is always due to a conflict, as the phone can only identify the number (the incoming info) and if that is attached to more than one person it just gives out the number.
To resolve the problem you need to find and remove the conflicts !
Good Luck

My iPhone only works with headset/speakerphone, cannot hear calls otherwise
Everything I try and make a call I have to use the headset or speakerphone. Otherwise it won't work. Is there anything I can do?
After pulling my hair out with the same issue (could only use Iphone 4S on speakerphone or no one could hear me or vice versa) I disabled Siri rebooted phone, made a successful call without speakerphone and then re-enabled Siri. So far so good keeping fingers crossed. Shame on you Apple for letting this problem persist!
