Apple Support for FCE HD - $200 per call???

i had what was probably a minor issue with editing in final cut express hd today. So naturally, i called applecare. They told me that it had been past the 90 days given to us for support from the point of purchase. Fine. However, the apple support representative went on to tell me that Applecare does NOT support pro applications and that i have to pay $199 per incident? I paid $299 for the product itself! Last i checked, i-pods were selling pretty well and i don't think steve jobs needs that money! Is apple serious? Where do they get off charging $200 for a ONE TIME PHONE CALL? Just because FCE HD is a "pro" application, apple can't assume that everyone who purchases this product is a "pro" from the start!
Where else am i supposed to get phone technical support for FCE HD??

These forums are here to give you technical advice. Admittedly it is not over the phone but it is FREE and lasts for ever.
Also you will have the collective knowledge of numerous people not just the one "expert" you happen to be speaking to.
Ian.

I am at Ramstein AB Germany.  My iphone screen was smashed badly on the flight to Germany this morning.  WHEN I access apple support for this subject it gives me 3 options call now, call me now or call me later.  As I am in Germany with no coverage and no working phone none of those options will work.  Can you get this e-mail to someone who can help.  My iphone serial # is C38xxxxxx. 1) I need to know where and how I can get a replacement somewhere nearby in Germany 2) If 1 is not an option I need to set up an appt to get a to get a new iphone at an apple store in Atlanta GA in the evening of 11 July.
Thank you very much, Phil Edelen

Thanks, my wife is the one serving I am retired and trying to follow her as much as I can.
I will schedule an appt for my next time stateside.  I have spent too much time on many Apple web sites trying to get an e-mail to communicate with anyone at Apple to no avail, only phone numbers. I guess if you are overseas with no international access you are out of luck communicating with them.  I did find one e-mail address but the reply was computer generated and provided useless links.
If anyone has any e-mail address for anyone at Apple I would appreciate it.
    Thanks again,
    Phil

Wow, Karan Taneja, you've just embarrassed yourself on a worldwide support forum.  Not only is your post ridiculous and completely inappropriate for a technical support forum, but it also shows your ignorance as to whom you think the audience is.  Apple is not here.  It's users, like you.
If you would have spent half the time actually reading the Terms of Use of this forum that YOU agreed to by signing up to post, as you did composing that usesless, inappropriate post, you (and the rest of us on this forum) would have been much better off.

  • Apple Support for purchase of AppleCare for Mac Mini / Cinema Display Combo

Below is an email that I recently submitted to Apple for feed back on the support system. I am writing here to find out if anyone might have any ideas about how to address this issue without resorting to a 2 hour wait on the phone (my last experience with Apple support). I have redacted some info with ID's and Case numbers as I know Apple does not actively monitor these forums so it would not make sense for them to be posted.
    Here is the question:
How do others in the Apple community feel about the points that I make in this email? I am curious to know if I am off base in my expectations or if what I am requesting is reasonable?
    Here is the email:
As someone who has spent 15 years as a web professional and has purchased/approved for purchase more than $1 Million dollars in Apple products, I have to say my recent experience with Apple customer service has been incredibly lackluster and almost insulting. Here is the issue that I am trying to resolve (not why I have written this email):
I recently purchased a mac mini and cinema display and in addition purchased apple care for both. I only received confirmation of apple care for the mac mini. Hence I have an issue.
Fail #1) I was asked when trying to register the apple care I purchased at MacAuthority, that I need to upload a receipt. I uploaded said receipt and then waited. Some time later I recieved an email (Jan 21) with with the following information - Case ID: XXXXXXXXXX / AppleCare Registration Number: XXXXXXXXXXXXX / Product Case ID: XXXXXXXXXXX saying my information had been received. I then responded to the email (Jan 21) saying that I did not see an option during the registration for registering both the monitor and the mini. I figured this was based on the registration number and maybe just did not show in the front end. I then waited 7 days to send another email (Jan 28). No response.
I typically spend my evenings taking care of things like this, as I can almost always address them through a couple of emails and it is done. I don't have time to sit on hold during the day waiting for a live person. Especially when I am doing work that ensures I can buy the product of the company I am waiting on hold with. Instead I try to rely on the most efficient method, which most companies have realized is email communication, when it is implemented properly.
Fail #2) Rather than making a call to Apple Support on my dime (during the day), I instead head over the support site thinking that at a minimum I would find a contact support form or an auto ticking email address. Heck maybe I would even be able to look up the case ID. To my surprise, there was no contact form, there was no support email address.
Fail #3) I then started hunting for the next logical step. I saw the link to the Express support and thought - "ah cool, they have a routing system to get my need to the right person/department". Errrrrr - wrong. Although that is what it appeared to be, in the end I was presented with only one option. Call back later. Seriously. SERIOUSLY
Fail #4) Now, after having spent more than 2 hours of my time trying to get this issue resolved, I am still going to forced to talk to someone on the phone. This is so incredibly insane for a modern web business who supposedly is fanatical about their customers!
I surely hope that this changes or my last purchase will be MY LAST PURCHASE. I have had so many experiences in the last 3 years that made me feel like I was inconveniencing "Apple". I am about to give up on the brand. There is a "greedy" feeling that I get when dealing with Apple rather than on of "wonderment"
There are lots of other options that I know provide a better customer experience. Why would I choose Apple over them? I dropped the iPhone for this reason and went to Android after having multiple issues with a support need that later ended up being a known hardware issue with the iPhone 3G.
I currently own two mac mini's, 1 cinema display, a 17" loaded MBP, a 15" loaded MBP, two airport extremes, an airport express and an iPad. I have spent over $11K with Apple personally in the last 2 years and I cannot get an option to contact someone by email or file a trouble ticket?
I truly hope someone has taken the time to fully read this email, as I cannot imagine that this is the message that Apple wants to send to its customers. If you have read this and can be so kind as to respond, I will gladly give you some other insights about how Apple can better serve its customers. If you can help me with my support issue, even better.
    Jamie

It's not clear to me on what information you were expecting from them. Did you, however, check the status of the coverage here to see if perhaps the coverage was registered correctly?

Apple does not provide support via email (except for the iTunes Store) and never has. Whether or not you wish to consider this a "fail" is your call, but they have always provided support only via the phone except for a short experiment with live chat which I believe they've abandoned.

Seriously. Though I think you misread. The option is available for you to set up a time when they can call _you. Or you can just elect to call later. It's your choice which you select.

    See number 1.
I surely hope that this changes or my last purchase will be MY LAST PURCHASE.
Suit yourself. I very much doubt that Apple will change their policy, since it's been the same for many years. There's nothing anyone here can suggest to change things or address them differently. You'll have to talk with them on the phone if the registration didn't go through as expected. Again, you can set up a time when they will call you so as to avoid waiting on hold.

  • Getting Apple support for a corrupted .Mac password

Can someone give me an address at Apple where I can get support that will help me get into my .mac and mac mail accounts? I have called support and visited a Genius Bar but they both say I have to write. I have written e-mails to Apple Support and they promise to answer in 48 hours but after weeks no response. I need contact information where I can get some response.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Sorry to hear it. Perhaps you could get more attention for your situation if you insist on having the password changed or obtaining a refund.

  • Apple ID disabled, no response from Apple support for 5 days...

My itunes account was hacked and drained by "Kingdom Conquest" last week.  I sent an email and got no response, even though the support form says I'll get one within 24 hours.  I called apple support and was transferred back and forth before someone finally said they could help, and the said they had to disable my accont for 2 days as part of the refund process.
It's been a lot longer than 2 days, now, and I still get an error saying "your apple id has been disabled" every time i try to access itunes.  I've tried resetting my password numerous times.   I've tried calling apple again and everyone just keeps telling me to email support, as itunes apparently doesnt offer phone support (???).  The last person i spoke to could barely speak english, which just added to the aggravation.
Why am i being punished for Apples horrible security?  Re-enable my **** account or transfer my past purchases to a new one!  This is ridiculous!

I also sent a support webform because 79,99 euro's worth of Pokerchips were bought by someone using my Apple ID.. I sent it 2,5 days ago, but still no reply.. My Apple ID is also disabled, but I managed to reset it and enter a new password. If Apple does not reply by tomorrow morning (GMT+2) I think I will send them an email. I hoped the Apple support would be somewhat faster than this..

  • I cant access icloud, my email address has changed recently and I cant use any emails and passwords or set up a new id, cant get hold of apple support for help, very frustrated!

I can not access icloud, my email address changed a while ago none of my email addresses and passwords work, I have tried to get a new password but that dosent work!, tried to contact apple support, no luck there either! What can I do?

If you are trying to change the iCloud ID ("email address") you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • IPad 2 Lack of Apple support for Display Issue

Recently I puchased two Ipad2's and one has a distinct yellowish tinge to all display white areas compared to the othe ipad2.  I realise there is some variability in the displays but this is quite a noticable difference leaving the entire display generally darker at various brightness levels compared with other ipad 2's I have compared it with.  For example, entering the  setup menu the greys are much darker and this does not appear to be an intensity issue.  Increasing the brightness does not solve the colouration issue.
I contacted Apple express support today and as the iPad2 is still within the 14 days I asked for it to be replaced.  The Apple support representative refused stating I had to submit the item for service instead at my nearest apple service agent to have the issue assessed and corrected.  I have apple care on the ipad2 and was under the impression Apple normally honor the 14 day refund / exchange policy.  I spent considerable time on the phone with Apple Australia today and tried a hardware reset and answered several questions etc I am not using a screen protector either as the item is literally just out of the box.  Given the holidays I will not be able to get the unit into Apple servcie until after the 14 days expires.
Has anyone in the forum experienced a similar issue with the display and had issues with Apple debating if there is a hardware problem with the display?  Or is there any way to fix the issue I have not already tried?  This is really annoying.  Normaly I would not worry about minor display differences but the issue seems to make the images darker on comparative measurements against other ipad2 units including the one I bought for my wife.  The only difference in the latter case is my ipad2 with problem display is a black model 32GB versus the 16GB white model ipad2 my wife has.

Thanks for the advice, but there is no Apple store within the city I live.  The nearest is 300 km away.

  • If I sell my iPad2, can I transfer ownership, for apple support for defects?

    Hi everyone,
I am selling an iPad2, because I didn't like the camera on it
Now... the person buying it. If he needs to get apple support on it, can he? Lets say something terrible happens, like the battery explodes, or something else that is the fault of the iPad2 and not the owner.
What happens? Does he have to go back to me and I go to Apple?
Or can I "Transfer ownership" to the other user, so he can go to Apple directly?
    If so, how?

The warranty transfers with the iPad. You can if you wish call Apple support and transfer the registration to the new owner, but it's generally not necessary.
    Regards.

  • Apple Support for USB

Blessings to those who are able to reply with possible answers.
I am curious if anyone out there that does reply to these Apple Support Communities actual work for Apple, OR, is it left up to Apple customers to reply and come up with solutions.
Here is my current problem: I have spent days working on getting my two USB ports to work also.  I basically use the USB ports for a wireless mouse and various flashdrives/memory sticks.  I have a MacBook Pro 2011 Snow Leopard 10.6.8  I have tried software update, SMC and PRAM resets, battery reset, hardware test, creating a new user account....and browsing and reading numerous discussion boards.....awgh!  I have stopped short of using my install DVD (fear of loosing data), upgrading to Lion or Mountain Lion (some fear of loosing an application that might not be compatible), contacting an Apple Store (AppleCare or whatever--live 2 hours away + fear of expense), and of course, trashing the laptop.  Does anyone out there have any possible solutions?   I see I am not alone.  --A frustrated first-time Apple products owner.

You really shouldn't have to buy a 3rd-party modem.
One of the other links on Apple's Discussion Boards lists how to issue "Terminal" and "Finder" commands to have the Apple USB Modem work in 32-bit kernel-mode (which, as Larry from VA notes involves holding-down the "3" and "2" keys when booting).
But to set this up you need to be in 64-bit kernel-mode, apparently.
You should also use the EXACT version of the driver specified in the link (not a newer one, as I did (it didn't work)).
Note also that the link specifies the modificaiton dates of the drivers in European format (dd/mm/yy).
If you have a Time Machine backup that goes back far, you may not need to use the "Pacifist" app to extract the old files.
Under Lion, use "Applications":"Utilities":"System Information":"Software" to verify if you are booted into 64-bit mode -- "64-bit Kernels and Extensions" should say "yes"; otherwise you are booted into 32-bit mode -- "64-bit Kernels and Extensions" should say "no".

  • Where is apple support for iCloud.  All online help asks for hardware number.  iCloud does NOT have a hardwdare number

Are there live people to help with iCloud?  Or is Apple too cheap to have phone support or iClouds after taking your money on a product that does not do as promised: play music you put on the cloud should be accessed across several devices.  Nada on iPhone, nada on brand new PC with Windows 7.  Nada to any Apple support unless I pay more money.
Used to buy exclusive Apple products.  Won't any more and I know why lots of others won't now.  Expensive and difficult to get real, live help once money is spend.  Before you put down money, Apple is ALL sales:  we'll help you, there is lots of Apple Support, we have Geniuses that will teach you, blah, blah, blah.

Agreed... we can only hope that they're using happily pounding away numbers on that on-screen keyboard

  • Apple support for Macbooks lost in the middle of Indian Ocean

    Hi out there,
This is probably the wrong forum for this query. I have bought my macbook in April 2008 ad since then I have been desperately looking for a support "email" like [email protected] While I am sure the phone service is Great, I live in Mauritius, a tiny island in the middle of the Indian Ocean and calling over can be quite complicated We do have an Apple reseller here. But last time I asked them about the Apple Care Protection Plan, half of them did not know about it and the other half confirmed it would be applicable in the island. But it's not sold here. I bought the Mac in South Africa. Apple stores do not ship over here. Why not???
I would certainly rest more peacefully knowing that support is a click away. Can we have email support, pleeeeeeeaaase?????

Use this page and the link labeled Mauritius to find the distributor in the closest geographical area to you, who is responsible for your location.

  • Apple support for Aperture

I read a post on the Canon forums that Apple is charging $199.00 per incident for support unrelated to basic installation. Is this true?

I cannot believe Apple won't honor their commitment regarding support. The Support Guide which came with Aperture says that complimentary support is included:
"For the first 90 days after your software purchase, Apple provides support over the telephone at no charge -- giving you expert assistance with installation, launch, and basic troubleshooting."
However, when I try to do "basic troubleshooting" with the Apple tech, he tells me that it costs $199.00 per incident.
