BB fault at Stonham exchange, Suffolk

Hi,
I have had a problem with Broadband disconnecting every 10 minutes for the last few weeks, and after trying all the advice about connection issues (eg using the test socket, new hub, using ethernet instead of wireless) an engineer was finally sent today.
It transpires that I am one of several customers on the local exchange (Stonham in Suffolk) affected by constant drop outs, but it is a fault the engineers cannot fix. It is not affecting everyone, just the lucky random few!!
I understand from the engineer that other people in my area that have been affected include people that work from home, who have had to relocate to work elsewhere as they are contstantly being logged out of their systems when the BB connection goes.
The engineer said that as it is not a fault that they (Open Reach) can fix, the fault I have reported will be closed - which indeed it has!
Obviously I am unhappy with this, because I now have an 'unrepairable' fault on my line, and what is annoying is that BT do not seem to be recognising that several customers on one exchange have an identical fault.
Can anyone offer any advice on how to escalate this? Are there any other Stonham customers on the forum with this issue?
Thank you
David

  • Fault at Hardingstone Exchange, Northampton (EMHAR...

Been without broadband and phone service now since 10th March 2015. In the process of porting my number from BT to Talk Talk , something has gone wrong at my exchange.
After 5 hours of phone calls with Talk Talk and BT, finally getting some useful information from BT this morning (16th March 2015). Apparently there is a fault at my exchange (Hardingstone, Northampton, EMHARDI) which is effecting multiple customers who are trying to port their numbers to LLU providers like Talk Talk. There is a technical fault in the "frames", whatever that means, and they expect to get this resolved by the 19th March 2015 at the latest.
Anyone else out there experiencing the same problem? Would really appreciate knowing that I'm not the only one suffering....
The hardest thing has been getting any information.....
Foxtrot (forever hopeful of getting my phone and broadband back at some point in the not too distant future!)

I am indeed in communication with Talk Talk but I also have a fault call logged with BT retail. It might not be the normal way of things but it's happened in my case. I think the fact the something failed during the porting of my number from BT to Talk Talk the process did not complete. So my number is still registered on the BT faults system. If I speak to BT customer services then they tell me to talk to Talk Talk but if I dial 151 then they are quite happy to assist. The same end result that I have to wait for Open Reach to resolve the technical issue in the exchange but it does help to get information from both ends so to speak.

  • Im haveing a fault with my exchange acct all settings are correct

i added my gmail acct and password.. it keeps coming up to re-add password and everytime i enter it corrct it will not accept it so i cannot sync mail

I would restart the iPad and then try to correct the password again - making absolutely sure that it is correct - upper case and lower case letters in particular - and if that doesn't work, you may be better off deleting the email account and starting all over again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Repeated BT exchange fault 'repairs' making Infini...

I've been noticing Infinity 2 dropping out, for anything from a few seconds up to a few minutes, for a couple of months. Completely fine in between and good speeds until the moment of cut off and as soon as it has spontaneously recovered again.
The frequency got worse so I eventually got round to reporting it using the online tool, which immediately diagnosed a fault at the BT exchange and triggered a reassuring message it would be sorted within three days. To cut a long story short I keep getting updates to say 'we think your fault is now fixed' but despite following the instruction to restart my hub (was home hub 2 when problems first materialised but now home hub 4) there's no improvement - indeed the problem is getting worse and worse.
I keep reopening the fault each time, only to go through precisely the same circle of messages. Indeed the web page seems to have run out of space to show the more recent supposed 'repairs' and re-openings of the fault!
After a couple of weeks of getting pretty fed up with this, I've used the separate online complaint form to draw attention to this issue and to ask a person to look into the problem as I'm concuding this is just some automated repair system I'm stuck in. I was relieved to see a text come through just now from BT thinking at last someone is getting to grips with the problem... how niaive I must be, as sadly it was yet another (automated!) customer feedback text.
Please, please, please can a human get back to me and sort this out - what was at first an inconvenience is actually becoming a nightmare as both my wife and I need to work from home at times and are dependent on being online. I really do expect better service.
I am connecting wirelessly as the hub isn't in a very accessible location, and the problem occurs on a Macbook Air, Windows 7 laptop,  iPhone 4S and iPhone 5. My firm's IT consultant happened to be doing a house call for me the other day on unrelated matters - she looked at the configuration and could see no indicators of any problems within the house, supporting BT's own diagnosis of a fault at the exchange.

Thanks for the swift reply Ray.
I figured that at the hub was changed without any impact on the problem, and as it effects multiple devices the exchange is a sensible diagnosis, but I have only my common sense to base that on - no technical know how!
If you suspect interference, is there anything I can do about it?  I can't imagine what device is suddenly sending out the killer rays (I jest) to strike it down in short bursts, but if that really is a possibility is there something a lay person can do like changign channels?

  • IPhone4 - Exchange Mail works on WiFi but not Cellular Network

I am not getting much help from my network admin so I am asking you guys. My mail works beautifully while connected to my corporate network via wifi. When I try to connect via the cellular netweork I get the "connection to the server failed" message. I think we are running exchange server 2003 and a cisco router/firewall. Any ideas that I can pass on to our IT admin?
    Thanks!

    CJ,
I fixed my issue and it was my fault. My Exchange account on the iPhone 4 works just fine over the cellular network now. My company uses IMAP for email and I had set up the IMAP account first on the iPhone because of VPN protocols set up by IT so I thought I needed to. Remember no support from my IT department for non Microsoft products...
I then set up the Exchange account for company email using my co-workers settings. The Exchange account was confusing the outgoing server from the IMAP account and would give me the "connection to server failed" message whenever I tried to use the company email over the cellular network.
I deleted both the IMAP account and the Exchange account and then set up only the Exchange account and it works perfectly now. With the IMAP account gone, the Exchange doesn't have that server getting in the way and works as it should.
You probably didn't make the same mistake I did, but thought I'd share my experience, just in case.

  • BT Openreach Telephone Landline Fault

Today I had my BT Openreach installed. My telephone landline no longer works. When I plugged my analogue phone into the Tel 1 or Tel 2 socket I receive an intermittent beeping tone. I plugged my Sky +HD into the Tel 1 and the phone line connection is recognised. Do I need to call an engineer or is there a simple solution ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I phoned BT 0330 1234 151 from my mobile this morning. The Call Centre phoned me back and had diagnosed the fault from the exchange. I was told that it would take 3 working days for an engineer to look at the fault. This evening my landline was working again.

  • Phone now has strange ringtone after fault fix

    Hi,
A few days ago i reported to BT about having noise on the line, particularly bad in the morning - early afternoon and a day or so later got a call from a BT engineer saying they had found a fault at the exchange and now it was fixed, noise had indeed gone!
However now the phone ringtone has changed - first ring is normal then the tone seems to get distorted and extended in length.
Is there still a fault with the line?
    Thanks

    Hi
It does sound like there could still be a fault on your line, have you tried a known working phone in the test point of your main socket?

  • Ever worsening Infinity Speed from Exchange to Mod...

I had BT Infinity installed in the summer, in June and did regular speed tests which were getting me approx 15 - 16 MBPS DL and 2.5 MBPS uplioad, from the exchange to the modem
5 months later, I now get 7 MBPS DL and about 1 MBPS Upload
Thh BT speed check say I could get between 20 and 26 MPS - ive never believed that, and was happy with the 15-16 I was getting, but being down at 7 is pathetic.
Nothing has changed. Anyone any idea why?

Ok - so an update to this:
i just received a call from BT, who told me that regarding my issue they have identified a fault in the exchange which is being worked on, and my normal service would be restored by 8 PM tomorrow. It wont require an engineer to visit my home (as expected).
When I then pushed her for info on what the fault was, she said there was some planned work going on in the exchange and it was affecting lots of other people as well. Im annoyed I didnt ask more questions abot precisely what she meant by "exchange" in the context she said it.
So clearly, she is just reading some generic notes from a helpdesk system and wouldnt be in possession of any particular info to my fault. I asked what would happen if the service wasnt restored by 8 PM, she just said it would be.
So, i wonder whether there is some deliberate work being done by BT to manage demand / capacity, and the speed was being kept lower than it could be during this planned work on purpose.
Either way im intrigued to see what happens tomorrow at 8PM. Im:
30 % expecting it to be fixed
    50% expecting no change
20% expecting it to be worse
Bearing in mind they referred to planned work, I'll wait to see what happens then phone BT asking for a partial refund of the broadband part of my bill. Might get £5 i suppose!

  • 7 day exchange repair???

    Hi guys,
Just off the phone with bt tech services, great service, BUT, I was informed my issues with dropping out and below 150kbps speeds were due to a major fault at the exchange. Seems plausible but I was also told it would take untill 5pm on the 7th of November to fix.
Does this seem correct? I checked the service status but there is no mention of it on there, and is 7 days not looking a bit excessive?
    Any comments or advice appreciated.
P.S. First post so sorry if you need any more info! Ask and you shall recieve!

  • Intermittent broadband fault

So I am currently waiting on an engineer visit as my broadband has been faulting on and off for over a month. First it slows right down, then it won't load wirelessly, then the hub cuts out completely and starts to flash amber then goes solid amber, then cuts out completely again and then does this consistently for at least 45 minutes to an hour. After several long conversations and lots of whinging I have got a visit next Friday. I was told earlier that this is a Sky engineer not an Openreach engineer which limits what they can do apparently? I was told its possibly a faulty router (Hub) but when it did this last year it was a fault at the exchange. has anyone else had this problem and have any helpful advice about what it could be? I'm so frustrated!!!!!

I had the same but mine had been going on for about a year, finally after getting a line engineer out and him replacing master socket and re-doing the connections and swapping a jumper cable at the cabinet it was ok for a day. After calling Sky again and moaning they sent out a broadband engineer out and just as he came the line dropped connection again so after his test and it showed errors on his stuff he went and found a more stable and better pair to connect to. This worked for the whole of last week perfect, not once did the SNR/ATT figues change so was waiting the DLM software to run after a voice message saying they were going to reprofile but no 2am disconnects yet. Yesterday afternoon though it decided to keep dropping connection again and the upload snr figure had almost doubled again like it had been before engineer visits, it dropped connection a few time yesterday and has done so again today but none have been around the time DLM kicks in. So I don't know if the fault is back or if it is due to the heavy rain on Friday or there is work going on due to the ipv6 upgrade stuff I saw in the forums. Either way I shall give it a few days see if it continues dropping and I will call again if it does. The enginner did say the cab is almost full capacity and could be picking up noise from other lines and fibre might be better for me but I am not sure if it is worth the gamble, I know you can get it free for a yr right now but I don't want the monthly cap I want unlimited like what I am on now

  • Barnet exchange down for nearly 2 weeks

Anyone else suffering because of this? I haven't had a connection for nearly 2 weeks and BT keep missing deadline after deadline. I'm currently using hot spot which I just found out about, it's slow but better than nothing.

there are no reported faults with your exchange and exchanges are not down for that long other wise there would be over 25000 customers complaining just on that exchange

  • Have intermittent fault, BT said there was no faul...

    Hi.
I have an intermittent fault on my phone. BT Infinity works OK
I have only one master socket attached. To this is a wireless phone, which has been replaced. When I got the fault I bought a phone which also plugs directly in the socket (not wireless). The fault has appeared on all these phones.
Two BT engineers have been, they could not find the fault, yet it continues. I checked my BT Bill today to discover that I have been charged £130 for the visit when clearly it cannot be my equipment, or I am the most unlucky person in the world and the fault is replicated on 3 phones or a BT Infinity modem.
The fault is that when sometimes we talk, our voice is distorted, but the person we are talking too sounds clear as a bell. The person who is ringing us now knows when it is going to be bad because the ringing sound at their end sounds distorted also. It is not one person but several people.
The BT engineer check the line at all places but not up the pole as it is out of date so they are not allowed up it. The first engineer suggested that their may be a fault at the exchange but this was not followed up by BT.
I cannot understand why my equipment can cause the fault and I have been charged £130 for this?

  • Phone fault: call centre staff seem to be making u...

Very frustrated. We reported a fault with our phone (affects broadband also of course) 10 days ago. Huge amount of crackle on line, so bad we can't hear the other party, and piifully slow BB speeds or no connection at all. Line tests done by BT confirmed a fault 'between the exchange and the telegraph pole'. Fair enough. Told fault would be fixed by 2nd Feb. This came and went with no fix and no contact from BT. Phoned again. Was assured problem would be fixed 'that day'. Call centre phoned back a day later 'just to check the fault had been fixed'. No, it hasn't. How could it be? We live on a small island, we know when the BT engineers are about and nobody has been near us.
Phoned again yesterday. Was again assured phone would be fixed that day (6th Feb). Again, it didn't happen. Phoned again today (Saturday 7th) and was told the reason it hadn't been fixed was that there had been a 'huge disaster locally'. Absolute piffle. I think we would know if there had been a disaster, and our neighbours' phones are all working fine. It's actually a lovely sunny day today. We have, however, had a lot of snow and rain recently and since our phone cables run along the side of the road there are often problems with 'weak joints' where the rain get in. We even know where these places are, and are 99% sure that it's a connection box at the top of our drive that is the location of the problem. It aslways is: we get this same problem several times a year.
Was then was told that even if I couldn't see engineer's van on the road this would be because they were working in the local exchange. Absolute piffle: husband and I drive past the exchange several times a day. There hasn't been anyone working there today at all. There rarely is on a Saturday. Was assured that phone would be fixed by 1pm today. It was 12.40 when I was told this. Needless to say, there has been no progress.
Why can't they just tell us the truth? I would rather they said they were short staffed and couldn't get to our fault for a few days, or that (more likely) the wiring from exchange to pole is in a dreadful state because it's been patched up so many times, and it's now a nightmare for the engineer to isolate the problem.
And it would, of course, be nice to know when our line really will be fixed.
I'm due a call back tomorrow between 12 and 1pm. Any suggestions of what I should say/ask when the lady says she's 'just checking that the line is working properly'??

  • New Infinity Installation. No internet connection ...

    Hi.
Had Infinity installed on Thursday afternoon and was initially impressed with 40Mb+ download and 15Mb upload speeds.
However, at about 5.30pm webpages stopped loading. Rebooted the HomeHub3 and was ok again for about 15 minutes but then nothing for the rest of the night.
Internet was back the next morning but same thing happened again last night until about 11.15pm when it was back as if nothing had happened. Whilst there is no access, the HomeHub shows 3 solid lights. It's like there is a connection but its so slow that webpages time out. Tried using wireless connection and wired through Powerline adaptors. Also tried connecting directly to the router.
So for 2 nights out of 2 I've had no access to the net which is obviously not acceptable. Can anyone suggest anything that I can try? I will have access to a new router later today so I will try using that.

Hiya - same thing has happened to me - go BT Infinity2 installed last Tuesday, all ok 48mb down 9+up until Fri 18th May when it dropped out and was v.slow. No internet until Saturday 19th during the day. Then 40+mb ok until 2330 Saturday 19th dropped out log shows CWMP:session connect host failed - again no internet until Sunday 19th - a call to 0800 111 4567 remedied the situation with "a fault at the exchange - working the the exchange" then I got 48mb dowm, 9mb up until.... 2330 on Sunday when the signal dropped out - like you, SensiBlue, three bluse lights and I can ping a server so theres a connection,  but the log again shows CWMP:session connect host failed and CWMPSL certificate error. No internet again all night - a further call to tech help merely resulted in the response than an engineer will come to my house - in four days time! to see if its a fault on my line. This hardly seems likely as I can ping out, and the line was checked - just 6bB loss only on Tuesday. I have tried a new router too - no difference. This intermittent fault seems to be fairly common on the forums too. Anyone got an idea? Like you say, SensiBlue, its not acceptable.

  • How long does it take to replace a cable?

I reported a problem (no dial tone) on Friday 22 July 2011, the automated line check showed a fault at the exchange. On Monday 25 July 2011 I received a phone call from BT saying the problem was fixed. I have a dial tone so think that's the end of the problem.
On Wednesday 27 July 2011 a BT engineer arrives saying there is still a problem with the line, I let him investigate and he traces the fault to the line between the cabinet and my house. He says an underground engineer will be needed to trace the exact problem, later that day the underground engineer arrives and traces the problem to just outside my driveway, where a fault had been fixed in October 2008. A hole will need to be dug to fix the problem, it would be Friday before this could be done.
Fine my line and broadband are actually working OK. So the delay is not an issue.
Friday the 29 July 2011, the hole is dug and an engineer comes arrives, the patch from 2008 is letting water in and has damaged the cable, the cable from the hole to the feed in point (grid) needs replacing. The cable is currently not in a duct just directly in the ground so a duct needs to be fitted for the replacement cable. Engineer leaves the cables with plastic bags on the ends and one with a label presumably saying it needs replacing.
I now have no phone and therefore no broadband.
Nothing further happens until Thursday 4 August 2011, when workmen arrive but they don't start installing the duct they just fill in the hole.
I contact BT and they assure me after speaking to the engineers that the problem will be fixed on Monday, I will have a working phone line on Monday.
Monday 8 August 2011, no workmen, no engineer, no contact from BT. The BT.com/faults page has not been updated since 29 July 2011. I contact BT and they can tell me nothing, they need to speak to a 'higher authority'  tomorrow. They have promised to phone first thing tomorrow but I won't hold my breath.
I realise the promise on the 4 August said Monday not Monday 8 August so which Monday did they mean?.
From a lack of dial tone which is fixed in one working day, I am left with no phone for over a week and no idea when (if?) it will be fixed.
BT is a communications company that has forgotten how to communicate.

Hi there could be a multitude of reasons for a delay as a duct has to be layed that could mean road/footpath closures which need local authority permission also the trench work will be carried out by contractors then new cables laid then openreach back to make connections all this unfortunately can and does take time
