C4500 VSS quad - incorrect config synchronisation

Testing two C4510R+E chassis VSS in quad supervisor 7-E configuration.
All 4 sups. had the same basic configuration – converted to VSS and added VSL ports (same in each chassis).
During testing I inserted one more linecard to each chassis and added one port from the card to VSL. All worked fine. Then I removed active sup., booted previously ROMMON booted sup. to IOS and config was synchronized from ACTIVE to STANDBY sup. and VSL config was updated. Again, all worked fine.
But the I realized incorrect seting of calendar so I began to change UTC calendar time from factory to local setting. Change active - active synchronizes to standby, switchover, boot second sup. etc. But after second switchover, on ACTIVE sup console appeared warning, that config was synchronized from STANDBY to ACTIVE!
First I was thinking about version revisions of configuration – higher revision would have higher priority, but did not find any information about it so could the time synchronization be problem.? I was changing approx. +7h from factory settings.
Does anybody have any experience with this behavior?
Note: the log bellow is from Active sup. that had factory time setting and Standby sup. (probably) had updated time.

  • VSS Quad Sup Question

    Hi,
    We have two chassis 4500's with Quad Sup's. They are currently in VSS mode with Secondary Sup in each Chassis in Rom mon.
    Our problem is contained to the chassis themselves, not the VSS.
    When we do power failure test, the chassis reboots but the now rom mon mode supervisor powers up and becomes Primary. It does not have the configuration of the Primary Supervisor.
    So we need to know -
    1. Does the config get synced, if not do you have to manually load config from primary sup if it fails.
    2. Can you force a specific supervisor in a chassis to be Primary.
    Thanks

    When we do power failure test, the chassis reboots but the now rom mon mode supervisor powers up and becomes Primary. It does not have the configuration of the Primary Supervisor.
    Without VSS, if a chassis has dual-supervisor card, the configuration of the primary card is always synchronized to the standby card.  Same goes with VSS (single- or dual supervisor card per chassis):  The configuration is synchronized to all "on-line" supervisor card.
    The only time this doesn't happen is when the standby card is either in ROMmon or couldn't join the "redundancy" (of a dual-supervisor card per chassis or VSS) due to incorrect IOS.

  • Vss quad sup support for 4500 series

    Hi all
    I'm looking at at 4507r+e with dual supervisor 7
    I want to run vss, however does it support quad supervisors?
    I hear the second one will have to be in rommon?
    In a failover how would I get the 2nd supervisor working ?
    Would you need to manually boot it?

    Have a look at the config guide:
    Quad-Supervisor (In-chassis Standby Supervisor Engine) Support
    The Catalyst 4500 series switches support dual supervisors in a redundant chassis, which can be configured for SSO or RPR mode. However, when a chassis is running in VSS mode, it supports a second supervisor engine, but only in rommon mode. In-Chassis-Standby (ICS) can not participate in control, management, or forwarding plane functioning. This makes ports on the supervisor engine in rommon mode available for forwarding although it neither participates in any switchover nor provides protection against any failure. In VSS mode, an In-Chassis-Active (ICA) supervisor engine participates in VSS control/ management operation and manages ports on the supervisor engine in rommon mode.
    If the second supervisor engine is inserted in a redundant chassis, the following information applies:
    •It must also be manually configured for VSS mode, i.e., it must have been converted from standalone to VSS mode previously. If you insert a supervisor engine that was not configured for VSS mode, it will disrupt the operation of the ICA supervisor engine. If it was previously configured, automatic boot must be disabled (i.e., to boot only to ROM Monitor) with the confreg command in rommon.
    The supervisor engine does not takeover or boot automatically when the ICA supervisor engine fails. A manual boot up is required to make it participate in VSS; it then functions as an ICA supervisor engine.
    More details on rommon commands are found at this URL:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/15.1.2/XE_340/configuration/guide/rommon.html#wp1013959
    •A supervisor engine's conversion from standalone to VSS occurs per engine. If two supervisor engines exist in a chassis, one should be retained in rommon or removed, before conversion occurs. You can convert the second supervisor to VSS mode while the first supervisor is removed or in rommon, with the additional step of setting it to "boot only to ROM Monitor." When both engines are converted to VSS, they can be inserted into the chassis together and re-booted.
    •Booting a chassis with two supervisor engines configured for VSS causes one of the engines to become the ICA and participate in VSS. The other engine, which becomes the ICS, will continuously reload. The secondary supervisor (the ICS) must be configured to "boot only to ROM Monitor" with automatic boot disabled.
    •When the ICA fails, the ICS doesn't take over because ICS support of SSO or RPR mode is unavailable. ICS (the secondary supervisor) must be booted manually to become the ICA and manage the VSS operations. For this to happen, the former active supervisor engine must remain in rommon mode.
    •ISSU support requires ICA supervisor engines on both chassis. The ICS supervisor engine does not participate in upgrade or any forwarding operations.
    •Because ICS supervisor engines do not communicate with ICA supervisors, VSS and other configurations must be done at conversion time on the ICS. If not done or the configurations do not match the necessary VSS parameters (like, SwitchId, Domain, and VSL configurations), it cannot form a VSS when ICA goes down and ICS is booted manually. You can, however, enter these "bootup" commands to make it join an existing VSS domain.

  • Cisco spa502g incorrect config file provisioned

    Hi Guys,
    Apologies if this is not in the right location for this question. But i have several phones which have not been rmeoved from the portal correctly or have been used as test phones on site. Now i have been able to get them removed from portal so that i can use them again however the issue i face is i cant reset the physical phones, they currently have a config file which if you log into the phone is asking for username and password so i cant check the URL for the provisioning file. I have no idea what this username and password would be and i have also tried doing it through the phone to no avail. I have read about how it may be possible to force a config file on using a tftp server, so have downloaded Solar winds but will be honest i have no idea how to do it. Nor have i got a config file to put on the phone.
    I am in a business enviroment so have got a POE switch and plugged laptop directly in and a SPA502G plugged in next to it. I have left the device all weekend to see if it would pick up a new config file after it cant find one as this was advised to me by BT wholesale. This has not worked either.
    Could somebody please asssit me with either explaining how i can get a config file on using solar winds tftp or if somebody knows another process on how i can reset these phones to ensure they have got the right provision file.
    Look forward to your response.
    Thank you

  • Question about Config Synchronisation on CSS

    Hi All,
    i had a great Configuration on 2 CSS 11503 and want to synchronize the configurations.
    Now the customer asks which risk will be there.
    Does anybody now problems with that Feature ??
    Thx in advance for your support

    config synch works with redundant-vip.
    Just be aware that there are 2 type of redundancy available on the CSS
    - box-to-box
    - vip/interface redundancy
    Each solution comes with its own synch script/command.
    Make sure to use the appropriate one for your setup.

  • Error on Purchase Order - Document number 45* not within defined interval

    Hi All,
    PLEASE HELP ME or guide me in the right direction.
    I am faced with a somewhat unique case in our enviroment. Some background first.
    Back in 2000 when we upgraded from Walker to SAP, a number of Purchase orders had to be migrated, one of them is the order i am struggling with. Back then very little validations were built in, resulting in a Local Order being incorrectly created as a International Order but against a local currency.
    Now this ordered is still being reflected as open in our system. When attempting to change the order by activating the 'Delivery Complete indicator", we get an error "use only foreign currency" This is due to the fact that validations against Document Type and Currency was created in 2003 and are in full operation now. It is hard coded thus i can not remove this easily.
    Now when attempting to get around this by changing the Document Type to a Local Purchase order or trying to delete a line, we get the error below.
    "Document number 45* not within defined interval"
    Number ranges do come to mind based on the error description, however, Local Orders have a number range of 45, International Orders have a number range of 47. In this case, the order is created as a International Order BUT the number range is 45*, again, due to a lack of validations/incorrect config back in 2000
    Do any of you know a possible solution to such a problem.
    Regards,
    Jody Ponnusami.

    The validation of document type and currency is not standard, and if this validation cannot be deactivated, then you will have to resort to making changes in debug mode. Put a breakpoint at the relevant check and force it to accept the current combination.
    The second option is to update EKPO table manually using SE16N. Set the delivery completed indicator to X.

  • Is it possible to get back to the Try block from a Catch block?

    I would like to perform validations on a config file. To do so, I have a method which will throw a MissingConfigException or an InvalidConfigException if something is missing or if something doesn't match a regex pattern. Although I have to do that with many different configs and I would like to go through all of them so that my error message will report all missing / incorrect configs at once instead of 1 at a time. Thus, I wanted to know if there would be any way I could do something like:
    try {
         config.validate("ServerPort","\\d+");
         config.validate("MaxClients","\\d+");
    } catch(MissingConfigException e) {
    } catch(InvalidConfigException e) {
    and have the catch block executed before going through the try block from where the exception was thrown.
    Thanks in advance!

    No, you can't jump back into the try. You can put your try/catch inside a loop though, so that if one fails, it will loop around and start a new try for the next one. Define a class that holds all the data you need to pass to validate, and make an array or List of those objects. Change or add a validate signature that takes this object, or just extract the strings from each one when you call validate.
    ThingToValidate[] val = new ThingToValidate[] { new ThingToValidate("ServerPort", "\\d+"),
        new ThingToValidate("MaxClients", "\\d+"),
    for (int ix = 0; ix < val.length; ix++) {
        try {
            config.validate(val[ix]);
            // OR
            config.validate(val[ix].getThingy, val[ix].getOtherThingy[]);
        catch (....) {
            // logger.warn("failed...");

  • Does  BAM have maximum limitation number(64000) of rows in a bar chart?

    Hello,
    I just posted a thread about a problem, these two problems are similar, but this one maybe more interesting.
    I want to count the number of service request by day in August and display them in a char chart view, here is the data I got from database using SQL.
    Month
    Day
    Service Count
    8
    1
    139285
    8
    2
    1424
    8
    3
    692
    8
    4
    692
    8
    5
    1939
    8
    6
    1969
    8
    7
    2135
    8
    8
    1625
    The data is filtered from 1th Aug to current date, in the bar chart only the data in 1th Aug shows up, and the number on the data label is not correct, it shows 64000. When the data is filtered from 2th Aug to current date, all the data from 2th Aug to current date show up, and the number in the data labels are also correct.
    Could anyone tell why it behave like this? is it a bug or a feature of BAM? or does any incorrect config I did? I appreciate your replies.
    Best Regards,
    Martin

    Hi,
    Plz check the profile 'FND: View Object Max Fetch Size'. Set it to a large value.
    Also try using
    vo.setMaxFetchSize(-1)
    in your coding. This will retrieve all fetched records.

  • Clients not getting DHCP in VRF

    Good morning -
    We have devices in the global routing table (not in a VRF) getting DHCP addresses without issue. The SVI is configured as such:
    interface Vlan2301
    description BLUE
    ip address 172.19.68.1 255.255.255.0
    ip helper-address 10.4.16.222
    interface Vlan2512
    description RED
    vrf forwarding RED
    ip address 10.217.5.1 255.255.255.0
    ip helper-address 10.4.16.222
    Clients in BLUE are getting DHCP but clients in RED are not. If I statically assign an address I have connectivity and can reach the DHCP server (which is also DNS server; with a static IP in VLAN 2512 I can do name resolutions for example).
    I am at a bit of a loss. Is there anything special I need to do for VRF IP HELPER-ADDRESS configuration? A capture on my firewall interface shows the DHCP server is trying to reply - it is like the helper-address is not forwarding the dhcp reply (or is not getting it)

    Any ideas?

    Good morning -
    I have a pair of 6513 in a VS40 (VSS quad sup) connected via L3 MEC to a VSS pair of 4500X. Active to Active and Standby to Standby connected in a L3 MEC port-channel that is also a vnet trunk:
    (Core)
    interface Port-channel5

    ip address 172.20.68.2 255.255.255.252
    ip ospf message-digest-key 1 md5 XXX
    The interfaces are all using LACP mode Active inside the channels
    On the 4500 we have a global routing table and a vrf. Both have helper addresses pointing to the DHCP server which is extranet service behind the 6513 Core.
    interface Vlan2301
    description Global Routing Table
    ip address 172.19.68.1 255.255.255.0

    vrf forwarding RED
    ip address 10.217.5.1 255.255.255.0
    ip helper-address 10.4.16.222
    DHCP for the Global Routing Table subnet works. DHCP for the VRF does not.
    What is interesting is if we shut down the link that is connected to the standby 4500 (Te2/1/1) DHCP starts to work for the VRF.
    Using <debug ip dhcp server packet detail> at the 4500 here is what I am seeing.

    Mar 10 20:04:44.808: DHCPD: client's VPN is RED.
    It is like there is a bug that is treating the L3 MEC as a L2 MEC when both links are present; or the VNET trunk is not being processed correctly.
    Has anyone else used a L3 MEC with a VRF and a DHCP helper with success? Is this a bug?
    03.05.01.E is the code we are running on the 4500X-32(SPF+)
    This is also with TAC but I thought I would share with the community in case anyone else has a similar environment or if Cisco experts want to comment.

    Hi,
    I have tested the dhcp server and vrf on Cisco 3640 and it is working without VRF under the ip dhcp pool. Please ensure that you have configured routing for the dhcp-relay agent(VLAN facing dhcp client on 3750 in your case).

  • Configuring ssm multicast

    hi,
    we are getting ready to implement the nexus 7000 with otv are two sites. since multicast is required to support this configuration i am currently testing how to implement ssm multicast on our core network. i am having problems joining the ssm group. here is the output from the 6509 i am using:
    hw-dc-vss-cs6509-1(config-if)#ip igmp join-group 232.1.1.1
    Ignoring request to join group 232.1.1.1, SSM group without source specified
    hw-dc-vss-cs6509-1(config-if)#ip igmp join-group 232.1.1.1 ?
      <cr>
    hw-dc-vss-cs6509-1(config-if)#ip igmp join-group 232.1.1.1
    as you can see the source option is not available and i can't figure out why.
    here is a copy of my running configure and show multicast show commands

    i did some more digging and found the answer to my question, have to use the following command instead of the join-group command
    Ip igmp static-group

    I'm assuming you mean WebLogic SSM. If you set it up using organizational structure, you should see a new org in /entitlementsadministration with a number of applications bound to the SSM you declared.

  • Mixed (Java & ABAP w/different sources) System Copy Failed- NW 7.0 SR3/SP14

    Hello SAP Friends! Our NW admin did a dual stack system copy where the ABAP server came from system 1 and the Java server came from system 2. This worked fine for ABAP (duh it was installed first), but the Java system copy was a disaster. the server started but many key services did not.
    Why?
    Many of the configuration entries were not generated properly. For example, a new, unknown SID was created, and many entries referenced System 1 (the ABAP source, not even the Java source). We were able to find and fix some incorrect config entries, but we still couldn't get all of the services we needed to work.
    I think NW is so complicated that such a configuration is probably impossible, but maybe I am wrong.
    Does anyone have tips? Or can confirm that this would never work?
    The current plan is to install the Java Server from scratch as an add-in, which is less effort than searching through all the config files without any certainty that it will work. Hopefully it will work.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Matt,
    What kind of infos are you looking for? I didn't perform the copy, have just been trying to figure out how to get all of the Java stack's services to start properly. As far as I know, it was done using the standard System Copy wizard. The ABAP server was done as a central instance and then the Java server was copied and installed as a java add-in.
    I have asked the admin to post the details to this thread, but it would be helpful if you could mention what types of info and details you are looking for.
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    John

  • [Lenovo px4-300r] Not loading Admin Webpage

    Hi everyone,
    Until today i was using my Lenovo px4-300r without any problem. Static IP added, shared folders running OK and everything perfectly running.
    Today we finally add an owned SSL certifcate on Security Section, to avoid the annoying SSL problem. My surprise is that when we restarted the NAS we cann't reach to the admin web.
    I can access perfectly to the shared folders but cann't access to the admin web. Anyone knows who is it possible? Any solution?

    Please, please, PLEASE tell me that the cert you supplied is NOT a wildcard certificate. The automation that rebuilds the Apache config at every boot will build an incorrect config that will prevent Apache from loading when a wildcard certificate is used.
    Prior to upgrading to 4.x, I'd been using a wildcard, which worked fine. I upgraded and had the same symptoms. Luckily, I'd also permanently enabled support mode, so I could SSH into the system to see if I could fix it. AFTER ZERO USEFUL SUPPORT FROM THIS FORUM, I was able to figure out what was going on and ultimately fix it by deleting the wilcard cert from the system.
    You probably don't have SSH access to do anything with it, so you're probably looking at a factory reset/reflash to get back up.

    Hi,
    While publishing documents to cfolders, we are getting error as ' error in input parameter "I_BACKEND_SYSTEM' the required value is initial' in CFE01 when we click on copy documents.
    Please help.
    Thx.
    Anirudh,

    Hi Anirudha,
    This error is not because of authorizations but because of incorrect config.
    Goto CFC01 and maintain URL path for cFolder system like
    http://ides.#####.com:8000/
    This will solve your problem

  • Future Engineering Student?

    Which Mac is best for a future engineering student?  I'm looking in to chemical engineering at Purdue, and I don't want to be underpowered (cheap) but I don't want to be overpowered either (expensive).  I'm also not sure if chemical engineering would use a lot of Windows-native programs.  I know that mechanical engineers and civil engineers really need fast computers--but I'm not sure about chemical engineering.  I have three questions:
    1.  Is the Intel HD 4000 graphics chip enough?  Or should I opt for a 1GB chip (only in 15" models)?
    2.  Is it worth the extra $ to have a quad-core processor and a 15" display?  I'm worried about glare specifically--if I got a 15" I'd definitely get an anti-glare.  A 13" doesn't have that feature, however; and I think the glare is really bad without it.  I'm concerned if the hyperthreading dual-core i7 (2.9Ghz) would be enough too.
    3.  Retina display.  How useful is it in an engineering environment?  Considering both portability and useability here.  Not to mention glare.  Does the screen reallly reduce glare like Apple says it does compared to the stock models?
    I'd really like to know what anyone thinks, either from opinion or experience.  Right now I have a 2009 white unibody MacBook (2.26Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067Mhz, 256GB SSD).  I upgraded both the RAM (2GB to 4GB) and the HDD to SSD (250GB HDD to 256GB SSD) myself I've ran some CAD programs on it and they've been pretty slow, so I'd be nice to have a fast ENOUGH processor when it's time to get a new one.  I'll also for sure get an SDD in ANY computer--I'm willing to pay for that upgrade directly from Apple so there's no chance of problems if I do it myself.  I don't want to wait for the warranty to run out two years in to college before I upgrade the parts, like I did for my current Mac.
    I hope all of this makes sense, thanks for anything that you can provide .

    Since you will be going into engineering i believe you will be using design apps like AutoCAD and other such utilities. All such apps require a lot of raw processing power. which means a lot of graphic intensive prosesses as well.my suggestion to you would be to go for the 15" MBP and go for the base model. Retina or non-retina display is completely up to you. That is all a matter of what appeals to your eyes but go for the base model in whichever lineup you go for. I believe they start with the 2.3 GHZ quad core config and also has 1 GB of discrete graphics in that, which in my opinion should be powerful enough for your work and also future proofs the notebook for at least 4-5 years. Hope this helps.
