Changing Latency

Created an article about a month and a half ago after my connection screwed up, but its been sorted for a few weeks and was wondering how i contact the mods into getting changed from interleaved to fast?

this is a link to the mods remember going to fast path can make your line more unstable  unless you are an ardent gamer  i would reccomend staying on interleaved

  • LE 8 changes latency arbitrary

I wonder why LE 8 changes latency, when I change settings on guitar amp pro. For example, when I change amp model or switch on the reverb, I suddenly have unplayable latency of, let´s say, 1000 samples or more. That means I have to go to audioprefs and change buffer from 128 to 256 samples, for example. Then it works again. But this makes Logic unusable while I cannot make changes when playing live. Anyone got the same problem?

Hi, thanks for reply, but you did not understand what I mean. The reason for the changing latency is not the more or less power required but the fact of making a change in settings. The program then makes the mistake to choose a latency of about 1000 samples or more on it´s own decision. (sorry I´m german, my english is a little clumsy.) No other sequencer does this. Anyway I always test out the best compromise between playability and functionality. cheers, Martin

  • Changing latency of my 458 connection

I have serveral EZ Zone PM controllers that have been having 485 read issues with.  The latency time for these are recommended to be set to 1ms.  Could someone point me to an article on how to change the latency settings.  I assume it is done under the Windows device manager for comm/LPT.

  • BT Infinity - Changing Latency type

    Hello!
I have read a few articles that say that you cant change your latency type from Interleaved to Fast Path with BT Infinity because the modem is in a little white box and not part of the HH.
This is only the case for some people though. I still connect with the telephone wire and not the WAN port. I have always had a brilliant connection (noise wise etc.) and have always hit the theoretic max of my broadband on ADSL2 and now VDSL.
Would I be able to request my latency type be changed to Fast Path (as I assume it isn't that, although you can't tell with modern HH's) as I do not have this seperate modem box?
    Thanks,
    Craig

That's right, you can't. DLM handles the transition automatically.

  • Want to Change Latency from "Interleaved" To "Fast...

I used to have "Fast" latency which helped smooth play on xbox live, but when i turned my router on and off over a period of a few days (When i was rearranging my room) i noticed that my internet had slowed down, i checked and i had an "Interleaved" latency type! I wish to go back to "Fast" as it helped.
    Thanks.

  • Want to change latency type on my line

Last year I had a new line laid into my home after 3 years of problems with the old one. Earlier this year I opted for the upto 20 Meg speed, my line is outputting around 18.6 which is fine however recently i've been experiencing disruption to my line.
Sometimes the Hub will reset itself, then when it comes on the broadband light flashes yellow for ages whilst the other lights are blue sometimes upto 5 mins will go by, requiring me to reset it manually to achieve a stable blue light & connection.
I've checked my latency type and found its interleaved. My old line was Fast type as I a game alot and I need a fast stable connection. I think it must have been an oversight when they connected my new line at the exchange they forgot to use the same settings, I do have an I-plate installed so its not an interference thing either.
Is there anyway I can get my Latency set to Fast type please?. My download speeds are stable although sometimes erratic so its not a line problem I have just an exchange setting.

    DC74 wrote:
Right, then clearly theres something not quite right with my line then, shouldn't be taking ages to re-sync after a reset. Is fast latency still better for gamers though?
Depends on your definition of "better for gamers".....
You either have an interleaved connection that affords stability, maintained IP profile, and maximum sync rate, with maybe the addition of roughly 20-40 milliseconds latency to server connections, as a worst case scenario.
Or you have a slightly lower latency connection, with no forward error correction, possible rise in noise margin, resulting in lower sync speeds and associated IP profile and throughput.
A no brainer really ....  over to you.

  • Changing latency allocation for soundcard

    Hello,
due to the well known malfunction of sizzling/popping/hissing of my X-Fi Extreme Music I was regularly allocating more latency to the soundcard.
If, eg, every hardware component has 32ms latency allocated, I would simply raise that value for my soundcard to 64ms: Problem solved.
The application I was using for this tweak was PCI Latency Tool 3.. I will omit here the details of how to make the tweak work with restricti've environment such as Win 7, but believe me, it did work though.
This has worked for my both on Win XP and Win 7 64bit until the Service Pack had been rolled out for Win 7. Since then I cannot use PCI Latency Tool nor did i find any alternative piece of software.
Does anybody have any suggestions how to play with the latency allocation under Win 7?

    Hey John,
Go to iPod Preferences, and you will find a slider bar. As you move this to allow more storage, it will tell you how many songs can be stored, and will remove songs as neccesary.

  • Fsb problem with kt6

    Hello,
I just bought a kt6 with a xp2700+ and i cannot raise the fsb to 166. At default when it is set to 100, no problem at all. But if i go to 133 the pc starts up boot under windows and 10 minutes later shutdown. (or sooner if i use the cd rom)
I tried to swap memories, change latency, change the graphic gard, no improvements.
Do you think it could be the power supply or the mainboard ? (cpu idle at 50 °c = 123 F)
My power supply specs (400W noname)
    3.3V - 18A
    5V - 27A
    12V - 16A
    My system:
    xp2700+
    kt6
    ibm hdd 80go
    radeon 9800 pro
audigy 2 (not installed for testing)
    floppy
    dvd pionneer
    Thank you for your replies.

Thank you for your reply. I checked everything and concluded it might be the processor or the mainboard. I managed to exchange the board with my retailer. I have now a brand new kt6 and everything seems to work perfectly.
But my 2700+ is at 61 °C idling, is it a normal temperature ?

  • Turning off Interleaving

  • Audio Dropouts on new x79 build ..New to Audition..

OK here goes: I just built a shiny new monster with cs5.5 production premium. Adobe and after effects run strong and fast. But I can't even listen to a single track on Audition with out playback skips or very short drop out (the audio drop also loses musical time). I also noticed if I make a selection in multitrack while playback is going it will also drop out for a split second but stays in time. I can only change latency since I don't have any core audio or asio drivers. My realtek audio chip sucks?? I have all the newest drivers and firmware on EVERYTHING. This machine is now flying seriously. My specs:

    Adobe CS5.5 Production Premium
Microsoft Security Essentials (only virus protection installed)
2 Games installed (Batman Arkham City and Skyrim Elder Scrolls)
    Acronis Home True Backup
    Roxio Creator Pro
All updates for drivers, firmware, software, for EVERYTHING(motherboards, drives , video card...)
    system hibernation off
OS drive has trim support working, (no page file and no libraries)
Page file manually managed on one of the seagates on the marvell controller (not the raid) on its own partition first thing created on the drive
on that same drive I have the mp3's I used in the Audition session .
I have Audition using the Raid 0 for the temp.
The session was a multitrack with 3 different mp3's on one track cut down and crossfaded only 4 or 5 cuts total I threw on a reverb from audition for shitsandgiggles
the problem happens sometimes anywhere, but always when:
letting the track play for a indeterminate length generally more than 20 seconds then right after the cut (and switch to different mp3 file) a slight pause dropout
...but If I playback from insertion a little less ..say 5 seconds from cut... immediately afterwards... no dropouts
then sometimes playback just stops for no apparent reason @ anywhere
Also, during playback if I change the parameters of the reverb plugin..it takes about 1.5-2 seconds until the playback of the new parameters can be monitored.. Is this the normal for cpu based audio recording as opposed to DSP chip based (my old protools tdm)
I didn't know if I am going to have to buy a sound card with core audio or asio drivers to solve this???
My Goal is to leave my MAC 9.2.2 dual 1.0gHZ with 1.5gB ram and a scsi iii atto card with 24mixcube (one mixcore, two mixfarms)Pro Tools 5.1.3ce purchased in 2002 that records 16 Tracks flawless no glitch no dropout with realtime effects multiple reverbs ,24bit 48k while playback another 16 tracks.
I would like to be able to record 16 tracks @ once.. maybe MOTU 896 Mark3 hybrid and a MOTO 8pre... maybe playback  8 tracks while recording 16 and listening to all 24??? With some realtime dsp processing (non destructive)...
What the heck? Premiere Pro is smoking 4 layers of avchd with color correction and realtime dissolves and titles and overlays smooth like butter..
I can't even get 3 mp3's on a track without dropout out of Audition. I've tried every choosable latency in preferences. Can I get ASIO drivers for my realtek onboard HD audio chip?? Am I asking too much from my system for the 24 track count with no glitches or dropouts?? Should I put the system page file on another drive than the drive the audio is residing on (or audio would be written to)? I have most startup processes disabled through msconfig..should I get some kind of process killer and if so, the name of  a good free or inexpensive one?
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Okay, I have no specific fix for you but I can tell you that my 4 year old laptop (nowhere near you in terms of spec) frequently records at least 16 simultaneous tracks (I've tested up to 32, my theoretical maximum but never done it in anger).  I also frequently mix sessions in the 24+ track range.
Now, a few general system killers:  having any form of wifi enabled can be a pain, as can having anti virus software turned on.  I completely shut those down before doing any serious audio work.  Beyond that, there are numerous "optimise your computer for audio" sites full of tricks.  It's worth working through the hints.
Second, you mentioned reverbs.  Which one(s) are you using?  Some of them are a much higher processor load than others--I can't really use "full reverb" in realtime mode (but can either apply it in destructive mode or add it in multitrack and freeze that track).  Studio reverb is much more forgiving.  There are other processes as well that can be problematic in real time--most of them give you some kind of warning though.
Finally, I'm not clear about what you want to do with your Realtek piece of rubbish (not being nasty, my laptop has the same).  I can use it for basic playback if not hooked up to one of my "proper" cards but I don't know of any ASIO drivers for it.  This means that the buffers have to be big and latency high when I use it--but for simple playback (I'd never use it for recording) this isn't an issue.  However, one workround that might help you would be to download Asio4All.  This isn't a true ASIO driver but, rather, an ASIO wrapper for MME devices.  However, it's got a lot of people out of trouble with things like this.
...and a final finally:  you asked about a process killer.  I don't use it often, but, when I need one, I've had good results with one called "EnditAll".  It takes a bit of setting up but seems to work well.
Hope at least some of this waffle helps.

  • Lots of white noise from an M-Audio MobilePre

I suppose I should have just returned it long ago, but the MobilePre interface that I use with GarageBand generates a lot of background white noise during recording. I've found lots of proposed fixes out there (changing latency back and forth, restarting GB, etc.) that have not helped me much, unfortunately. The unit itself seems to be inherently bad. I've got the newest driver installed, but the problem is still there. Sigh.
I have a Shure PG57 mic plugged into the MobilePre...this wouldn't be the problem, would it?

Thank you all for the prompt replies! I have played with the multitude of gains that I have. There is one on the unit itself, a software control panel gain, and then a few gains within GarageBand itself. I'm not sure which one of those would be considered the "main" gain, but I have been able to mostly reduce the fuzz. Unfortunately, this also makes for VERY quiet recording levels. A decent recording level always seems to come with significant buzz.
I've also turned down the unused channel. That only helped somewhat.
I'll probably have to learn to live with a slightly scratchy recording until I can afford to buy a better interface. Ho hum.
