HP Officejet Pro 8630

Today I purchased a Officejet Pro 8630 all-in-one printer. The issue I'm having is with different paper sizes, specifically legal and letter. When I try to copy a packet of documents that have papers that are legal size, it only prints on letter size paper which cuts it off. The packets are large, have to be in a specific order, and must be prepared for shipment next day. So spending time sorting papers by sizes and then copying takes up too much time. I have legal paper in tray 1 and letter in tray 2. Also have the default tray set to 2 as well.
In short:
When it copies a legal sized page, I need it to actually print the whole page on legal size paper.
Is there a setting that tells the printer there is legal paper in tray 1, and to use it when a legal sized page is copied/scanned?

I am having the same issue and have the same settings. Tray 1 is set to Legal, Tray 2 is default and set to Letter.  I want the device to detect paper sizes (Excel, Word, PDF) and pull from the appropriate tray.
Printing, scanning, copying and fax all do not DETECT or PRINT on the proper paper size.
1. PRINTING: Most documents I print are either PDF, Excel or Word files and are usually letter or legal sized.  I usually print using ePrint though sometimes I print from the application (Excel, Word, Adobe Reader). ePrint is why I purchased this printer but sending a document to an email address doesn't allow the printer to know what size paper to print on and thus all documents are printed from the default tray which is Tray 2 set to letter size.
1a - How can I set the printer to detect the paper size when printing from the computer,
and then to print from the proper tray?
1b - How can I send ePrints that detect the paper size and then print from the proper tray?
2. SCANNING: It is important that when I Scan to a file on the computer (with the glass or the ADF), that the resulting file be the size of the scanned document. As of now, this does not happen automatically. I have to tell the software or the touch panel what size to scan.
2a - How can it be set to detect the correct size and save the file in the proper size?
3. COPYING: This is the function that operates close e to what I need but I seldom copy so that doesn't help me much. I still have to tell the touch panel to copy legal sized or it will only copy up to letter sized even if the paper I am copying is legal sized.
3a - How can it be set to detect the correct copied paper size and print from the proper tray?
4. FAXING:  Faxes that are sent are fine. Faxes received are printed from the tray I select. If I get different sized faxes (letter or legal), the printer does not detect the proper size and pull from the proper tray therefore it would always cut off the bottom of my legal sized faxes. To get around this, I set the Tray 1 for faxes which has legal sized paper. However this is not a good solution, it is a band aid because I don't want all my faxes on legal paper.
4a - How can it be set to detect the correct fax size and print from the proper tray?
Can you please tell me what to do for these concerns?

  • HP Officejet Pro 8630 won't print from tray 2; says there's no paper

    Action: Print from tray 2.
Expected Results: Paper feeds from tray 2 and prints.
Actual Results: Printer displays "out of paper" dialog.
Notes: Ever since I purchased the Officejet Pro 8630 six or eight months ago, tray 2 has not functioned. It says there's no paper in that tray. I've tried multiple types of letter sized paper. I've inspected the bottom of the main printer unit and the top of tray 2 for signs of damage; there doesn't seem to be any.
Tray 1 works just fine. It's actually a fantastic printer. The best I've owned. If only Tray 2 would work.

    Hi @George1978,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I gather that you would like to learn how to change the print settings when sending an email to print on your Officejet Pro 8630 printer.
To better assist you, would you please supply some additional information:
How are you sending the print job to the printer? Are you sending it from your computer and choosing Print, from one of HP’s mobile apps, are you forwarding the email to the printer’s ePrint email address, or another method?
What operating system are you using on the device you are using to send the print job? I have included wikiHow’s guide titled How to Figure out Your Mobile Operating System if you are using a mobile device. If you are using a computer, please click on http://whatsmyos.com/ as it will tell you what your operating system is.
How is the printer connected (USB cable, ethernet, or wireless)?

  • OfficeJet Pro 8630 Scan to Network Folder Slow

I had an OfficeJet Pro 8600 that recently died.  On that printer I had set up the feature Scan to Network Folder, which worked flawless and quickly.  I replaced the 8600 with a new OfficeJet 8630.  Configured the Scan to Network Folder feature identically to how the 8600 worked.  When testing the connection via the web interface, the connection times out and says there is a problem with the settings.  However, if you go to the printer and initial a scan to a network folder, the screen on the printer displays "connecting" and after about 3-4 minutes the document scans to the network folder.
HP support had no suggestions other than sending me a replacement printer, but it behaved the same way and was returned.  Out of ideas.  Anyone having similar issues or have any suggstions?
    Rob

Rob - I encountered the same trouble just today while installing the HP 8630 on a network.  Eventually the scans would go to the computers but it took quite a while - maybe two or three minutes - for the scan to complete.
I resolved the trouble by substituting the IP address of the computer that hosted the target network folder for the name of that computer.  For example, if the network file path was listed as \\david\8630scans, I changed it to read \\192.168.1.122\8630scans.
After repowering the 8630, the scan connection was practically instantaneous and the scan proceeded normally and as intended.  You should be able to make this change using the web interface in the scan to a network folder section.  Apparently there is some sort of name resolution problem that is bypassed by using IP addresses.
Be sure to repower the 8630 after you make the changes to the network path.

The service requires a really good connection to the Internet.   Perhaps if you are using the default connection structure, the setup is not sufficient for the task.  That does not mean your connection is incorrect, simply that another method that might provide a more robust means of connecting the printer to the remote print server.
A more robust connection may mean a happier "web services" connection.

  • HP Officejet Ppro 8630 e-all-in-one 2nd Tray doesn't function properly.

I originally purchased this printer (today in fact) because it seemed better to have one machine instead of three in the office and I also required the 2nd tray. After getting it back to the office, setting it up, going through everything, I found out that the 2nd tray is essentially useless.  Previous (and hopefully future) models of this line, came with a dual driver that allowed the trays to function seperate from each other. This current model uses the second tray essestially as storage. You can not automatically print from one tray or the other. You can only have a default tray and/or a locked tray. I would definately NOT recommend this product to anyone that requires seperate printing capability..

Hi TTarcon, I am very sorry for the confusion, but I would like to help clear some things up. The second tray will only support plain paper yes, but the first tray can be used for plain paper, photo paper, envelopes and cards. You can dictate which tray you want to print to when you select a print job. Image source: Specifications page.  You could load the first tray with one paper type and print to it when you want to print on that particular paper type.  I found the following information in the user guide; Working with trays When using more than one tray, you can make use of the tray features provided and change the settings to achieve a better experience. By default, the printer draws paper from Tray 1. If Tray 1 is empty and Tray 2 is installed and contains paper, the printer will draw paper from Tray 2. You can change the behaviors using the following features:● Default Tray: Set the default tray from which the printer draws paper first.●Tray Lock: Lock a tray to prevent it from accidental use; for example, when you have loaded special paper (such as letterhead or preprinted paper). The printer will not use a locked tray even when the other tray is empty. NOTE: For better experience, load only one type of paper in a tray.NOTE: Tray 2 supports only plain paper. To achieve this Follow these steps Have paper loaded in both trays and use paper from one tray if the other tray is empty.● Load paper in both trays. For more information, see Load paper on page 23.● Turn off tray lock. Have paper loaded in both trays and use paper from one of the trays first.● Load paper in both trays.● Set the desired tray as the default tray. Be able to choose from plain paper and another paper type that you use occasionally. NOTE: For better experience, load only one type of paper in a tray.● Load special paper in main input tray and plain paper in Tray 2.● Lock the main input tray and set Tray 2 as the default tray. To change tray settingsNOTE: You can also change the tray settings from the printer software or EWS.To access EWS and the printer software, see Embedded web server on page 118 and Open the HPprinter software (Windows) on page 37.1. Make sure the printer is turned on.2. Make sure you have turned on automatic selection of paper source.3. From the printer control panel display, touch and slide your finger across the screen and touchSetup.4. Touch Tray Setup, touch Default Tray or Tray Lock, and then select the appropriate option.  To turn on automatic selection of tray or paper source (Windows) 1. Depending on your operating system, do one of the following:● Windows 8: On the Start screen, click Control Panel, click View devices and printers; right click the printer icon, and then click Printing preferences.● Windows 7: Click Start, click Devices and Printers; right-click the printer icon, click Printing preferences, and then select your printer name.● Windows Vista and Windows XP: Click Start, click Printers or Printers and Faxes; right-click the printer icon, click Printing preferences.2. On the Printing preferences tab, click the Paper/Quality tab.3. Select Printer Auto Select from the Paper Source drop-down list in the Tray Selection area.4. Click OK twice to close the pages and accept changes. HP Officejet Pro 8630 user guide.  I truly hope you can now go from less than satisfied to loving your HP Printer  Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. • Officejet Pro 6830 e-All-in-One Ink Cartridge Problem Message

Have/will soon "had" instant ink cartridge service.  Printer did not recognize that the black ink was out so I didnt get a black ink cartridge.  Couldnt wait for the mail service, so purchased all new HP cartridges and installed.
"Ink Cartridge Problem" Message came up and is now stuck in the machine, can't clear it.  The machine will not recognize any of the 4 brand new HP inks; that menu item has little red X for each cartridge and each one shows empty.....
Removed all cartridges, cleaned all contacts, unplugged machine, did a "reset" on the menu via HP phone technician.....nope, nada, nothing.
Did all above SEVERAL times.   Called HP back..."40 minutes wait time" .. wth...
Anything else?  Does HP have to reset my machine to "recognize" regular cartridges???
Thoughts, suggestions?  (Besides don't buy HP again....I will not....I should know better by now!)

  • HP Officejet Pro not printing for me, but printing for my coworkers

My office just got an Officejet Pro 8630 and I have been installing them onto our laptops. I have installed the drivers on four computers, and it has worked well for three of them (all but mine). Our office is doing wireless printing, and the printer is attached to the network. My computer is connected to the network as well. I did everything the same (to my knowledge) for the downloading, so I am very confused. I was able to scan from the printer to my computer in PDF form. I restarted my computer and also uninstalled/reinstalled everything but to no avail. When I try to print, it goes into the printing documents queue, waits there for a few seconds, and then goes away as if it had printed properly. Printing to our old printer still works for me (also wireless, but an Epson) but of course we will be getting rid of that soon. Am I missing something?

Hi , I see that you are having issues printing from just the one computer, but you can scan from the printer to the computer. I will certainly do my best to help you. Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor, it will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. If the issue persists, try the steps in this document to see if it will help. • HP Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter & custom paper sizes

Have found all the helpful instructions about creating new custom paper sizes in Windows 7. But am complete novice & need to buy a printer for a charity. Settled on this model because of good reviews but most work will be 1 document of custom paper size. Need to know if the instructions given are fail-proof!! (Before i spend their money.)
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hello invqn,
after having performed some detailed research, as well as installing the Pro 8100 (and other products) on a Windows 7 system, we determined the Pro 8100 doesn't support Custom Sizes:  that was by design and intent.
Note that one of our engineer's proposed using a different set of drivers (from an older device) as a potential work-around, but this is unproven and may serve to limit your overall functionality of the device.
However, we did confirm that a newer device that is currently out, the HP Officejet Pro 8610 (or 8620 or 8630) e-All-in-One, DOES support custom sizes; these are multi-function printers.
Using the instructions in the link you sent, you can create new Forms with custom sizes and it will show up in the Printer Properties for you to use/select. It supports custom sizes from 3.00 x 5.00 in. to 8.50 x 14.00 in.
Our intent is only to provide information on what we know; you might take a moment and perhaps see if an HP Marketing representative might be able to give you more information, but that's what we have.
       We hope this helps....
