Huawei E160 issues

I was temporarily without broadband whilst moving home so loaded a e160 huawei usb modem tied to T mobile.
This didnt work and after several support calls to t mobile I ownloaded a file to a pc and updated the device to snow leapard compliance.
At this point it was unecessary as my broadband had been installed (it was a ludicrous situation - cant use the device till I conect to the net and hen use a pc to update it)
Anyway as a result of this stupid situation I resolved to not use the item again and ancel the mobile broadband contract.
I now however have a macbook that shows in console messages a list of items running for huawei updater, and t mobile web and walk that constantly exits and respawns
I cant see any programs still resident on the hard drive to cause this so I am probably looking in the wrong place.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please.

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this ?

I make the upgrade to the last firmware but don´t works...
We need support for this modem because it’s very common in our market. The ISP Claro, Tigo and Telecom use this model Huawei E160 and that incompatibility makes SRP500 a very unpopular router.
Please, make a new upgrade to support and resolve this particular issue.
    Regards,
    Daniel.

    Hi Daniel,
We have no immediate plans to integrate this modem with the SRP.

  • Orange Huawei E160E Mobile Broadband Dongle - NOT WORKING NOW!

Well as you can see from the title - i've just upgraded to Snow Leopard over the weekend - and love the 16GB of harddrive space I got back, however I came you use my Orange Huawei E160E Mobile Broadband USB Modem 'Dongle' and it doesn't work.
25 mins on the phone to Orange Tech Support, and they tell me 'sorry we can't do anymore' & 'thats what you get for being on the cutting edge of technology'!!!
Apple Care told me to install Rosetta - and still NO good!
    Any ideas?

    Hi
Thanks for the advice above. Initially cleaned off original app
I removed the software application from Mac HD/Applications/Orange Mobile Partner
The kernel extension located at Mac HD/System/Library/Extensions/HuaweiDataCardDriver.kext
The modem script located at Mac HD/Library/Modem Scripts/HUAWEI Mobile Connect – 3G Modem
Then dragged the Orange MobilePartner file to the HD, selected 'Show Package Contents' and followed the advice above opening the .mpkg.
Was about to try and return the dongle, but now after several tests, am sure it works

  • Huawei E160 O2 modem connection problems

I have struggled for months with the connectivity on O2 pay as you go with an E160 Huawei modem using O2's mobile partner software. This morning I appear to have solved the problem.
Don't use the rubbish O2 software. Go to system prefs then network. Select the modem then enter the following:
    Telephone number: *99#
    Account name: o2bb
    Password: password
    Goto advanced.
    Select vendor - generic
    Model: GPRS (GSM/3G)
    APN: m-bb.o2.co.uk
Click apply then ok and then connect, and it should work fine.

Great howto dude. Please pass this along to other Mac users around your parts and maybe let O2 know this work around for 10.6..

  • Problems on start up with Snow Leopard after T-mobile mobile broadband inst

    Hi All
I am a new mac user, and this is my first post, so please forgive me if I am repeating this issue.
I have recently upgraded my mac os to Snow leopard.
The issue that i have is that is that I installed a new USB mobile broadband stick from T-mobile, (which I was told by T-mobile is tested) when I tried to restard the Mac Book all I got was the Apple icon and it didnt boot up.
I spoke with mac support who were very helpful. They guided me and I ended up having to re-install the original OS and then had to upgrade again to snow loepard.
I installed the USB broadband again (big mistake), thinking that i may have been something else that caused the problem but the same problem occurred.
    My question is:
Has anyone had any issues like this with T-mobile mobile broadband with their mac book?
    Kind Regards
    Jag

I received my O2 Mobile Broadband stick (Huawei E160) yesterday and I was unable to run the Connection Manager. I went to my local O2 shop with my MacBook Air where we tried other models of USB modems but to no avail. They then produced their own Mac Book and all devices installed without any errors. They checked the OS version and they were on 10.4.xx. Armed with this information I went to the Apple store where they checked that there was no problem with my MacBook Air and tried to install the device but they had the same issues. They then tried to install the device onto another MacBook Air and a MacBook Pro and it failed. The conclusion from the Apple staff is that you cannot install USB Broadband Modems if you are using the Snow Leopard OS.

  • Get UK O2 USB mobile broadband dongle to work on Snow Leopard here:ther

Mobile Connect won't work on Snow Leopard, as you'll have discovered if you're looking here.
    1. Insert the modem into a USB port.
    2. Open the virtual CD image it makes
    3. Control click (right click) the MobileConnect application
    4. Select Show Package Contents
    5. Open the Contents, then the Resources folders
    6. Double click MobileConnect_DrvApp.pkg to run it. use this to install.
    7. Double click MobileConnect_DrvApp.pkg to run it *AGAIN*
    8. Open System Preferences and select the Network pane.
    9. Click the + at the bottom left, unless HUAWEI mobile is already in the list. If not, slect it as the interface after pressing +.
    10. Select HUAWEI mobile in the list. Set telephone number to *99# , account to o2bb and password to password
    11. Click advanced (bottom right)
    12. Set vendor to Other and model to HUAWEI mobile. Click OK.
    Click connect and surf.
I am sure that the basic principles will work for any other provider using HUAWEI USB 3G modems.
I hope that helps. If I got something wrong, let me know!

    Hi
To be honest this Huawei E160 device is not known to me but I goggled a little bi for devices details.
Is it this: [Huawei E160|http://www.three.co.uk/personal/mobiles_/discover.omp?CID=1215014587304&PAYG=true ]
Anyway in your case I would recommend contacting the Huawei support for some details and solution proposals:

  • Network Manager: Problem using Mobile Broadband

    Hello,
I'm trying to use NetworkManager to configure an Internet connection using a 3G modem USB dongle.
    I have a Huawei E160 on O2.
    Steps taken so far:
    * Installed NetworkManager using the ArchWiki article:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NetworkManager
    * nm-applet would not start, and the error on the virtual terminal matched that in the troubleshooting section of that article. I backed up and changed those 2 files. I don't know much about PolicyKit but nm-applet started and was able to connect to a WiFi network.
    * I tried connecting to O2: the device was detected but on attempting to connect, the nm-applet connecting icon froze or stuttered (as in the animation was about 0.2fps).
    * Errors on the tty indicated that nm was looking for files that did not exist. After searching I found a package 'mobile-broadband-provider-info' on LaunchPad which is included in Ubuntu. I found it in the AUR and installed it.
    * Tried again, same behaviour of the icon, but this time errors on the tty resembled the errors that occured when nm-applet would not start.
I'm guessing the problem is with the PolicyKit configuration in the 2 files:
    /etc/dbus-1/system.d/NetworkManager.conf
    /etc/dbus-1/system.d/nm-applet.conf
If we can put together a general solution to 3G modems (rather than my specific problem), I will be willing to help out with the relevant wiki articles (probably after my exams).
Thank you very much for your help,
    James Haigh.

    Hooray! It's working!
I booted into Arch to run nm-applet from the terminal emulator to collect the exact error message to post, but then I noticed the mast icon!
I couldn't figure out why this now worked but I wondered if Ubuntu had sort of initialised the modem somehow (when I started this thread using the LiveCD, that was the first time I'd got it to work).
I don't think it was the restart because I'm pretty sure I restarted after installing mobile-broadband-provider-info.
So I started to read the new replies. I thought I'd set pacman to download (and install) arch-wiki-docs while I write a reply. My USB wireless mouse stuttered and stopped working. I tried replugging it, syncing it, wouldn't work. The download which was going at about 20KB/s (I thought this was due to bad reception; my O2 phone gets 1 or 2 notches here at college), stuttered and spewed out errors.
My tablet PC annoyingly has only 2 USB ports and no CD drive. So to use a LiveCD, keyboard and dongle I had to use a hub. I left the hub in when I booted Arch, and unplugging it fixed my mouse and dongle. The download went about 100KB/s!
But I wasn't using the hub before I used the LiveCD. I was just using the keyboard and dongle, and a great Firefox add-on called LoL, which makes browsing with no mouse easier.
(If interested, this list including LoL is useful:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo … n/keyboard )
So the initial problem is at least 1 of these:
    * Bad reception
    * Ubuntu initialised the modem but my installation/configuration of Arch could not
    * I forgot to restart if/when it mattered
And the 2nd problem was the hub.
    These weren't problems:
    * ConsoleKit configuration
    * Settings
I tried to understand those 2 files using GVim's diff with the backups and I couldn't see anything to try, so I left them unchanged.
My settings are in the manual for the dongle. They're not in mobile-broadband-provider-info so I will file a bug to make it easier for Ubuntu users etc. Looking at /usr/share/mobile-broadband-provider-info/serviceproviders.xml I made this:
    <apn value="m-bb.o2.co.uk">
    <name>Pay & Go</name>
    <username>o2bb</username>
    <password>password</password>
    </apn>
    The manual also says that:
    * Tel no: *99# (which appears to be default and is never specified in serviceproviders.xml)
    * Authentication: PAP (Also not specified, the default of try all methods works for me)
I could add a mobile broadband subsection to the troubleshooting section of the wiki article:
    * Check signal
    * Check USB
And add relevant links on articles like 'USB_3G_Modem' etc.
owain wrote:...I felt a bit let down that some update, somewhere, had changed my settings without letting me know (there certainly wasn't a pacsave or pacnew which I'd missed).
I like pacman and I like the way upgrading my system is my responsibility but that shouldn't have happened without a message. I'll be aware of things like this now, thanks.

To install packages from the AUR, I suppose I'd have to:
    * look at the PKGBUILD and figure out what files I need
    * download the files onto my hard drive and save relevant wiki articles
    * restart and boot into Arch
    * modify the PKGBUILD
    * build and install.
Also, command line configuration of connections might not be very practical at college; if something goes wrong I won't be able to access the ArchWiki, Google or other help. Although it might be worth a try.
Yeah that sounds about right (except you don't need to modify the PKGBUILD, just place the downloaded files in the same folder as the PKGBUILD and run makepkg).
    That's useful to know.
Once you've got your internet running you can install 'community/arch-wiki-docs' for offline wiki access.
Thank you so much! This could be a life saver! I've installed it.
If you're in the UK, mkwvconf output for O2 is:
I will explore this alternative sometime. For something as important as this, a backup plan is useful. I've been using netcfg for WiFi for quite some time before I installed nm. It'd be great to use netcfg (and the nice menu) with wvdial.
    Thank you all very much,
    James.

  • How best to connect 850MHz 3G service to Time Capsule?

Hi all, I have recently created a 2TB Time Capsule network and want to link it to my only reliable internet source, a 3G mobile internet service which only transmits in 850MHz (I live in a developing country so have limited options!). I have tried connecting a Huawei E5151 mobile wifi device via ethernet cable to the WAN/LAN port, which worked but because the device does not have 3G capability at 850MHz, I could only get 2G.
Does anyone have any suggestions about the cheapest and lightest device which will get the job done? How about a TP-Link TL-MR3020 - I already have a 3G USB dongle which looks to be compatible (a Huawei E160e) and if that doesn't work, suspect that I can easily find another. Would this be able to transmit the 3G internet to the Time Capsule via ethernet in the same way as the Huawei E5151 did?
Many thanks for any assistance anyone can provide!

The TP-Link should work.. it is hard to predict these things. Getting 3G service going is never super easy.
As long as something that is 3G connected works as a router then the TC can just plug into it in bridge.
Lots of adsl modems also have fail over to 3G and some of those might be cheap.
Hunt around.. there are heaps of 3G routers for instance on ebay.. I suspect because they half don't work.. or the 3G service is so expensive that people get out of it asap.

  • Help please, T-Mobile uk mobile broadband E-160 dongle network settings pls

    Hello Members
I've manage to manually install the Huawei E160 dongle driver, but I don't have the correct manual network settings to connect to the net at T-Mobiles (Uk) optimum 3G speeds.
I do know that the telephone number setting should be *99#, and that username and password are both left blank, but all the other settings for the DNS, WINS, PROXIES and PPP tabs in the 'Advance' section I'm unsure.
I do not want to use the T-Mobile Internet manager software, as I found while I ran this software, my connection was poor in speed, and intermittent in connection.
I don't have all the latest Mac OS10 Snow Leopard updates, as I only have my T-mobile connection and I'm guessing there will probably be loads to download.
Any help would be great, especially from T-Mobile mobile broadband uk users
    Kind regards
    Livio

Just a post prompt, can any T-mobile (uk) members help, and that have the correct manual setup for the E160 mobile broadband modem dongle, i've have done many forum, and Google searches on this, and each one is different and/or doesn't work, regards

  • Huawei E1762 USB Broadband connectivity issue in macbook pro 13" 2011:

The Dongle is giving issues with Mac book Pro 13" Feb 2011. This is my first Mac and so i dont have idea if the same problem existed for other macbook pros. The speed drops to zero and sometimes it gets disconnected automatically. I also tried using the Mobile partner dashboard for the huawei E 1762 but it doesnt help.
Is anyone facing the same problem? Please help as i have to travel a lot and using USB broadband is the only option.

I have read some of the dongle firmware need to be upgrade, check with your ISP.
Im using a E1550 3g dongle which after I have updated my MBP to 10.6.7, it didnt work at all. Called my ISP, use Vodafone program instead of Mobile partner, and it works great now.
    Hope this is helpful.

  • Huawei E220 strange issue running 10.6.2

Hi, I'm testing the Huawei E220 with a brand new Macbook Air running 10.6.2.
    My provider is Vodafone IT.
I have a very strange Issue:
If I start the connection the Macbook Air suddenly shuts down a few seconds after the connection has been established. If I leave the modem connected to the usb port without activating a connection nothing happens.
Has anyone had this same problem??
This mac works perfectly with any other HSPDA usb modem.
Vodafone posted a new software for mac (Vodafone Mobile Broadband 3.04.10.00). This link can be useful (not only for Italy) because it is constantly updated:
    http://www.business.vodafone.com/site/bus/public/enuk/support/10productsupport/laptop_connectivity/40_software/software/10_latest/pmac.jsp

my friends 13" mbp is also having trackpad problems. I plugged in an old usb trackball and that seems to to at least get me so I can run a hardware test off the applications dvd.

  • All sort of technical issues. Huawei Y550

A week ago I bought Pay as you go (international phonecals) sim card with Huawei Y550 phone. Since then each day I'm experiencing all sorts of technical/network issues with it. Few examples: 1. At the second day I've received 468 text messages from EE asking for top up, all sent within 2 hours.2. 4G didn't work right from the start, there was no internet connection despite of small 4G icon showing up on the right corner - I've restareted my APN and everything went back to the norm.3. At the fourth day I've received over 300 text messages from EE asking about top up4. At the fifth day I've noticed that each phonecall or text messages I have made, are showing on my online account multiplied - each of them exactly 19 times.5. At sixth day (yesterday) I couldn't make any phonecalls, each time I've dialed any number I was told that I have not enough credit to do it - despite of still having over 400 minutes available as according to my online account.6. Today morning I can make phonecalls ( it just fixed itself, I haven't done anything), but 4G is not available again and I can't get internet access. I'm pulling my hears now trying to understand what is happening, Can anybody explain that to me and give me some advices please? Thank you.Peter.

I think with this your best option is to call Customer Services and explain the above.

  • My Nokia Lumia 1520 has a plethora of issues

This is mainly about my Nokia Lumia 1520, but also some other Nokia Lumia phones.
After I inherited my Nokia Lumia 1520 I had to wait a few weeks before I could install Windows Phone 8.1 (Blue) + Nokia Lumia Cyan on it, after doing so I signed in with my Microsoft-account (as it was of a deceased family member before, and I was using his Microsoft-account, so I had to factory reset it), after resetting it I noticed a plethora of issues that weren't present in Windows Phone 8, no offence to anyone at Microsoft, but Windows Phone 8 had absolutely 0 bugs I ever experienced, no crashes, no oddities, ever since the new operating system was released all my phones as well as my ex-girlfriend's and my girlfriend's phones have been experiencing issues, but none more than my Nokia Lumia 1520, here is a summation of each phone. Note that I am a huge Windows Phone fanboy, so I have purchased several devices for multiple people, and I'll write what they've told me down here too. Note that most are either Nokia Lumia or Microsoft Lumia, but one is by the Cantonese manufacturer, Huawei so I don't know if that will be considered (ir)relevant by the moderators.
    Nokia Lumia 1520:
    * Sometimes the touch-screen randomly doesn't respond (which is really annoying while playing Age of Empires: Castle Siege where I lost the chance to get several British banners due to this error), this recovers sometimes by going stand-by, but this alternates and seems completely random when the screen gets responsive again, and when not.
    * It randomly starts pressing physical buttons, and when I try to press them it's not recognized by the phone, and there is no way to turn my phone off or even put it in stand-by while it's doing this.
    * There is no back-up for settings and app data, it did this before but for some reason it does notify me that I haven't backed up in a while and any attempt to back it up is met with countless of errors, before my phone backs up my data again I don't want to factory reset it because I don't want important data to get lost, so please help me fix this.
    * It sometimes starts crashing random applications with provocation.
    * Sometimes it won't charge.
    * It crashes randomly while playing videos on Google YouTube and other websites.
    * It can't download Lumia Help + Tips.
    * Sometimes the screen goes all black, and the camera stops to work, but here is the odd part, whenever I click on the back-button and hold it it shows me the ''open'' applications, but they all remain black.
    * Half of the time when I take pictures with it there is a 3 second delay, and most of the time those pictures aren't saved, so I only use it to take screenshots, and maybe 1 in every 10 screenshot is actually saved.
    * It won't show the profile pictures of my Microsoft Skype-contacts.
    * The calendar doesn't work on the lock-screen, and shows me the wrong information all the time.'
    * Cortana randomly starts in the middle of other things.
    * Internet Explorer Mobile randomly crashes and closes the tab I'm on at that moment.
    * Internet Explorer Mobile randomly opens tabs I didn't ask for.
    Nokia Lumia 920:
    * The phone sometimes won't restart after going completely off unless one would hard reset it.
    * There is no back-up for settings and app data, it did this before but for some reason it does notify me that I haven't backed up in a while and any attempt to back it up is met with countless of errors, before my phone backs up my data again I don't want to factory reset it because I don't want important data to get lost, so please help me fix this. (note for my Nokia Lumia 920 this happened after I returned from Hanoi, the issue has been constant on my Nokia Lumia 1520 even while it was in Europe)
    * Microsoft Skype crashes when I want to upload a picture or drawing (unique to this specific phone, it works seamless on all the other devices).
    * Microsoft Cortana often notifies me about news, but can't fetch anything when I click on the message in the Action Centre.
    * It can't download Lumia Help + Tips.
    * On some (Vietnamese) Wi-Fi connections it can't update nor download several applications regardless of size (for example an Angry Birds game called Angry Birds Go! that is nearly 1 G.B. nor an 8 M.B. N.O.R.A.D. Santa Tracker).
    * When there is a flippable protective case around it the cellular network will crash, and can only be restored after rebooting it, before I got S.I.M. errors on it nearly 5 times a day, each time it required me to restart my phone.
    * It permanently shows 2 unread mails in Microsoft Outlook and 8 in Google Mail for no reason, I have 0 mails in Yahoo! Mail but it does tell me that I have ''unread'' ones in several (NON-EXISTING) folders.
    * The Calendar doesn't appear on the lock-screen, and if it does it's either several weeks too late, or shows me messages for months about things that happened last year.
    * Sometimes one ear-plug goes without sound, rather than being a hardware problem it gets fixed by rebooting the phone.
    * Sometimes I can't copy or paste anything.
    * Internet Explorer Mobile often doesn't recognize images I want to save, while somehow it does recognize those same images either the day before and/or the next time.
    Nokia Lumia 520:
    * The phone sometimes won't restart after going completely off unless one would hard reset it.
    * It doesn't recognize the Micro-S.D. card it did before (it worked while on Lumia Cyan).
    * It can't download Lumia Help + Tips.
    * It sometimes won't charge.
    Nokia Lumia 530 Dual S.I.M.:
    * After inserting a Micro-S.D. card it can't download in-app videos (Microsoft Skype) or voice messages (WhatsApp-Messenger) or even links (Facebook Messenger).
    * It can't download Lumia Help + Tips.
    * Sometimes it doesn't recognize the 2nd S.I.M. Card.
    * Like before, the Calendar doesn't function on the lock-screen.
    Microsoft Lumia 353:
    * Touch related issues similar to the Nokia Lumia 1520 as expressed above.
    Huawei Ascend W1:
    * The phone will detect low storage even when there is lots of free space.
Unrelated to these phones, but still ''Nokia'' hardware is the Nokia charger that comes with Nokia Lumia phones for some reason doesn't work, I mean like ever, and Microsoft forces me to buy new chargers, plus I still use the charger I had on my old H.T.C. Windows Phone for my Nokia Lumia 920. All the above phones have many more issues, but I just simply can't remember them right now.

Confirm that Date / Time settings are correct.

  • Yoga 11S WiFi issues

    Hi all,
As with many I am experiencing severe Wifi issues with new Yoga 11s. I will try to explain in detail in the hope that someone who better understands how wifi really works might be able to help diagnose.
I have a Talktalk badged Huawei HG533 router. This delivers c.15Mbs reliably all around my house (2xTVs, computers up and downstairs, 2xphones). Using Speedtest.net to capture speeds.
With the Yoga, if I sit right next to the router (as I am now), I get 15Mbs. In other parts of the house I get just 0.5Mb, including rooms where other devices are measured at 15. I have updated drivers and upgraded to W8.1 though I experienced exactly the same problem before the upgrade.
I have tested every room and it seems that it will either work at very close to the maximum (in a few rooms) or drops off catastrophically to 0.5mb or less. There is no in between. I never lose connection altogether. There seems no correalation between the level of signal displayed (4 or 5 bars) and the speed. The 'good' rooms are separated by fewer walls.
I have also observed that on occasion having tested in a good room and then moving to one of the bad rooms it initially shows good performance, before seemingly recognising where it is and throttling back to unusable.
It is as though once it gets to a certain distance/separation/signal strength it somehow 'jams' the signal.
I really neeed to find a solution to this as 1. my office is one of the bad rooms and 2. I am often in hotels, airports etc and need reliable internet even in poor signal areas. Any help much appreciated.

Hey everyone, I just registered here and I couldn't find a solution. Apologies if this has been covered already.
I received the Yoga 11s i5 as part of an internship and after keeping the package under wraps for a month or two, I decided to give it a go and start using it instead of my Microsoft Surface. Everything works smooth and I love it to bits - except for the WiFi.
I was able to connect a few times, but for the most part it just doesn't work. The WiFi icon in the bottom right corner displays the adapter icon with a little red x, and the Windows troubleshooter is unable to find a solution. I'm really not sure what the problem is because, so far, my connectivity problem is entirely random - several times, I was able to connect and use the WiFi regularly only to be greeted with the same problem next time I  start using the computer. The troubleshooter once displayed an error message amongst the lines of "The network adapter is experiencing hardware/software difficulties".
I don't know if it is worth mentioning that I live on a college campus with a dodgy wifi connection, but every other device I ever used is working properly. Any suggestions? Only thing I did try so far is refreshing the system and reinstalling Windows but, to no avail.
    Thanks in advance!

  • BT Mobile Connection Issue

I have a PAYG BT Mobile Dongle (Huawei E180) which I've been using for a couple of years now without issue.  I have just upgraded to the latest version of the Connection Manager software, and I can no longer connect to the internet.  I get the "Click to Connect" message for the BT Mobile (SIM) option and I have around 50% signal strength on 3G which has been okay in the past.  It appears to connect okay, and says that it has connected with 7 Mbs, but the browser reports that it cannot connect to any web page due to a DNS error.
I've tried this on two laptops now (one running XP and IE8, the other Win 7 and Chrome), both with the same error.  I have plenty of credit on my account.
I'm sure it will be a simple configuration issue - anyone have any advice?
    Thanks, Mark.

Yes, as long as you're using yours not a neighbours
Something odd there. You may want to contact the mods ... http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
One more thing you could try is a direct PPPOE connection from your PC to the modem, instead of the homehub.
Use userid [email protected] and password BT.
This will rule out the Homehub as a problem.
