Issues on my hp laptop dv4 1114nr

hi,
i have a HP dv4 1114nr laptop that i had bought about 2yrs ago. Recently i have started seeing startup issue with my laptop.
my laptop hangs at start up when HP logo is displayed, and after that i see the next screen , the following options...
continue
setup bios utility
and 2 other options. Continue was selected and when i clicked enter..it did not respond at all. I tried to bootup multiple times, but same behavior every time.
Also another issue i have noticed on my laptop is ...when i start it up..i just see blank screen, the power light is ON and all other lights seem to be coming on, but nothing shows on screen other than blank screen. In this situation when i try to power down the laptop...it powers down very fast..it does not need me to hold down the power button for too long to power it down.
Even when everything is working fine...after a successful bootup and when i am in the middle of working on the laptop..suddenly the laptop screen goes blank.(this has mainly happened at tiems when i am using the laptop on a sofa or bed with no proper air ventiallation)
Has anyone had similar issues ? what could be the issue and how can i fix the problem.

Sounds like the CMOS battery is going dead.
You should get the manual for your computer and see if it is something you can do yourself or take to a shop.
Go here to search fro your model and follow directions to your Maint. & Service manual.

  • HP DV4-1114NR bricked by HP's own bios update help plz and thank you

Hello friends, I have a HP dv4-1114nr, I downloaded the Bios update from hp and guess what? it bricked the laptop. I have read several forums on how to fix this, i have gotten as far as attempting to restore the bios, renaming the bios and putting it on a flash drive... The windows+ B key is definitely the way to launch recovery, with my bios i am not sure what to rename the file and also is it a requirement that it be on a small usb drive and that it be FAT format only? any help would be greatly appriciated. I have been working on it for weeks now... Thank you and god bless..

If the HP_TOOLS partition is still on the hard drive, it may contain a copy of the original bios that was replaced by the newer one.
To recover the bios from the HP_TOOLS partition hold Win+B down while you power up, continue holding Win+B until you hear some beep(s) then let up, it may take some time to recovery and may show no signs of activity or mesaages.
If Win +B does not work try all 4 arrow keys.
Usually the bios file name must match the motherboard model number.

  • I've read others' posts on this issue and still need an answer that works. Safari keeps dropping wireless; no issues on a Dell laptop with XP in same room. Cleared cache, etc. - any other ideas?

I've read others' posts on this issue and still don't have an answer that works!  Safari keeps dropping wireless connection every 5 - 10 minutes (it's gotten progressively worse over the last month). My husband, sitting 10 ft across from me, has no issues on a Dell laptop with XP so doesn't appear to be the router or ISP. Safari v5.0.6 Mac OS 10.5.8. Cleared cache, tried kill commands in Terminal, restarts, etc. Only restarting seems to keep it at bay for a period, but then it will start again. Any other ideas?

You posted a question about a problem connecting a Mac to a wireless router. You have an old Dell laptop that works well with that router.
I pointed you to a brief discussion with another poster who had a problem connecting a Mac to a wireless router. He had an old Dell laptop that worked well with that router. I suggested he upgrade the router firmware. He upgraded it, and the problem was solved. Another poster in that thread did the same thing, and his problem was also solved. Within the last day or two, I made the same suggestion to a third poster in another thread, and his problem was solved too.
Conclusion: Upgrading the router firmware helps sometimes.
If I understand your response, you think that checking for a firmware update isn't even worth a try. Am I missing something?

  • DV4 Battery Issue - Battery Charges; But Laptop Won't Run From Battery Power

    Greetings,
I have a DV4, and let me tell you - I am so over this laptop. I have had it for over a year, and in that time, the backlight went out 6 months into owning it, the battery died just after the one year mark, and the webcam has been broken since I sent this computer back to HP to have the backlight issue resolved. I will never buy a new HP ever again.
Now, the battery I have replaced in my laptop charges - but, when I unplug the laptop from the wall, the battery power does NOT switch over. I have had this battery a total of two weeks - it was working fine until last night.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Hi, SoCal Cal. Take a good hard look at your battery contacts: both the ones on the battery itself and the "prongs" in the PB case that engage with the slotlike contacts on the battery. Are any of them significantly darkened/tarnished? Is there any debris or fluff on or in them? Clean out any foreign matter, then insert and remove the battery at least a dozen times in succession to see whether doing so will wear away any tarnish that may be impairing the necessary electrical connections. There's not really any easy, better way to clean the contacts, at least not the ones in the slots on the batttery itself. Then test again.
It sounds to me as though not all of the battery contacts are making good contact — though some of them obviously are, at least some of the time. Perhaps "working" the contacts this way will improve matters.
I really don't know what's going on with your machine; these are just shots in the dark.

  • I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on my MacBook. Constantly dropping internet connection or message "error connecting to the network" comes up. No wireless connectivity issues with windows 7 laptop or iphone.

I have a MacBook with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. The last few weeks it has been constantly dropping internet connection, and one of these messages appear on the page: "Safari cannot open this page because the server where this page is located isn't responding" or "Safari cannot open this page because you are not connected to the internet" comes up. I will check Wifi and I am connected. No wifi connectivity issues with iphone or windows 7 laptop, this doesn't happen with either of those devices. I have unplugged and reset router, cleared cache, still happening. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • Issue With Brand New Laptop

I just got my Gateway laptop yesterday, it wouldn't load or recognize a printer driver disc....is this normal? If not, I will return and get an HP like I had before....

Forgot to mention testing another disc LOL.
Whenever I reload my computers, I rarely, if ever use the discs that came with them for drivers. I prefer to go directly to the manu. site so I don't have to bother with updating the old ones that are on the discs.

  • Failed to issue print from win7 laptop to Canon MP230 which is connected to mac mini os x 10.8.3

    HI
I have recently bought a Canon MP230 printer and connected to my Mac Mini 10.8.3 usb port.
To setup the printer I downloaded the latest driver from canon web site and install all of them
When I issue print from my mac mini it works fine.
Next step was to issue print from Windows 7 laptop .
To do that I intalled Bonjoure in my Windows 7 latpot and set the printer connected to MAc Mini as default printer.
Upto this point every thing works fine.
When I tried to issue print from my Windows 7 laptop the printer gets activated the power button start blinking . But it just pass a page from
input tray to out tary without printing  a single line. I have looked into cups server page at my mac mini. It shows that the job fired from windows
    laptop was done.
I treid a lot debug it myself . But no luck yet.
Please help me. I am very upset.
    Thanks
    Anirban

I just updated to 10.8.3 today, and my computer and Apple TV won't even recognize each other now.  I have absolutely no advice, but wanted to throw this in so you (and Apple) know you're not the only one.

  • Flash, IE 8 and Windows 7 Compatibility Issue on new Dell laptop

    Hello,
I am trying to figure out why our Flash header is not working on our boss's laptop running Windows 7.
    The specs are:
    Windows 7 Professional 64bt version
    IE 8.0.7600.16585
    Flash 10.0.42.34
One of other sites Flash header works fine, but not our main site.
The one that works is http:/www.ideachannel.com
The one that does not work is http://www.izzit.org
    Any help would be apprecciated.
    Regards,
    Don

I did'nt go line by line through the source code... but I do not see any Flash header or content on ideachannel.com, I do see it on izzit, which leads me to believe, that there may be some permission issues with the laptop. Flash and active x must be allowed through firewalls, and system, check the the Flash Global settings also, and make sure browser(s) have plugins or addons neccessary.
It also may be that the version of IE? your running is the 64bit vers.? Try resetting the IE default to 32bit see if that helps, not sure if it has changed yet but last I checked Adobe did not support IE 64bit.

  • PS Elements activation issue (not recognising this laptop)

My copy of Photoshop Elements 9 is installed in my laptop and my partner's. It has rarely been used on hers but she tried to open it and it is saying it can't be activated as the serial number is already in use on two machines. This IS one of the machines it is activated on. It is telling me to deactivate it elsewhere but the only other place it has been installed is my laptop. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening? I am positive it has not been installed elsewhere so should not be having this problem.

Our support team can investigate your difficulties with the activation.  For the best assistance, I recommend our chat support at http://adobe.ly/yxj0t6.  Our chat representatives can provide a personalized experience to resolve the issue you have described.

  • Any fix to keyboard issues on Dell E7440 laptop ?

I'm hitting the bug described here on my "work asigned" Dell laptop
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … e_keypress
In red hat Bug 1145954 is looks like a patch may be available. Anyone know if this is in an upcoming arch kernel ?
    Last edited by gps1539 (2014-12-23 21:29:43)

What?  There are 5 bullet points of items there that are listed as not working.  None of them are related to the keyboard.  There is a keyboard issue in the "troubleshooting" section, but it also provides the solution.
You need to tell us what your problem is if you want help.  If you want to know the status of a patch, you need to link to the patch and/or the mailinglist where it is discussed: we have no crystal ball to know what patch you are referring to.
EDIT: I see the anchor of the url you posted didn't get me right to the item, but is for the keyboard issue in the troubleshooting section.  Have you tried the solution provided?  Did it not work?

  • Mic issue with Lenovo G710 laptop

I have a laptop Lenovo G710 which i have upgraded to Windows 10. The laptop has an inbuilt microphone.I'm going through the setup process with Cortana but my voice isn't being detected when getting Cortana to learn my voice.I have done following to try and fix it but it hasn't yet worked:
I checked in Device Manager and looked for Microphone(IDT High Definition Audio Codec) and it says Device is working properly when i go to the properties of it.The latest driver was installed 09/07/2015.
Secondly, I have tested the inbuilt microphone out by going into Control Panel, then going to Speech Recognition then click on Audio Devices and making sure that the microphone is enabled.
I then right clicked on it  Properties went to the Levels tab and increased the  Microphone level to 100. Microphone boost is set to the max level. If anyone can help me to fix this issue, it would be much appreciated.Kind Regards,

    Hey there,
I've been having the same problem for a long time now, seems like the IDT drivers for this model are fu**ed up somehow. No one ever responded to my problems. Don't expect anyone having a magical solution to this, unless someone from the Lenovo support really decides to dig deep. The newest driver is absolutely incompatible with Windows 10, even though it says it is. The mic works "fine" when listening to it through the recording devices properties, but never have I been able to make it work with Cortana, neither Skype! To temporarily solve this problem, until MAYBE a solution will come, I advise you to open Device Manager, and under Sound, video and game controllers, click right on the IDT High Definition Audio Codec, Properties, Driver, Update Driver, Browse my computer for driver software, Let me pick from a list, and select High Definition Audio Device. Your sound will sound worse, after some restarts it will maybe even go almost mute (at 100% volume set EVERYWHERE application-wise, windows-wise it will sound like 30%, 40% before), but at least the microphone will work service-ably with Cortana or Skype.
Guys could any of the official support REALLY take a look at this problem? Seems that not just me has it. This is a serious issue to solve. Thanks! (whistles in the wind, becomes forgotten in a few days)

  • Screen Issue with HP G7000 laptop

    Hi there,
I bought a second hand HP G7000 laptop preinstalled with Windows Vista Home Premium x86 a few days ago, the problem with it was that the screen wouldn't light up even when plugged the laptop was plugged in using the AC adapter which I also had to buy seperately as the original one was misplaced and only cost me £10 for a compatible one off the Internet, the screen wasn't shattered and showed no signs of wear and tear, I took it to my local PC repair shop for £40 in which the contacts behind the screen needed connecting back up and with a little soldering for some other parts of the repair, however when I tookit  back to my place the screen lit up fine in which I decided to perform a factory restore to make it feel like it was brand new and that it belonged to me. After restoring the laptop successfully, I noticed that a lot of stuff was a little out-of-date and decided to update it to make it compliant with the latest security fixes as well as the latest bug fixes i.e. to upgrade to SP2 etc, however upon updating and turning on the laptop every so often the display kept going funny i.e. black and white and wouldn't display anything clearly in which I had to keep forcing the laptop to shut down with using the power button in which I don't like doing as this will corrupt the hard drive eventually, however upon researching this problem on the Internet I stumbled across this forum thread http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f108/hp-g7000-screen-issue-529809.html using Google describing a very similar problem to me, the problem not only seems to be with tilting the angle of the screen but also the surface in which the unit is placed down on, I've tried various surfaces including my USB fan cooler, glass and wood and all produce various results from time to time. So I guess the answer is to place the unit down on a flat surface that isn't shiny and screen not tilting when using the laptop? I thought the purpose of a laptop was to make computing mobile regardless of what surface you place the unit  down on and what angle you have the screen at. Your feedback and suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    RocknRollTim
P.S. I also suspect that the problem is related to interference and lighting conditions as well as heating conditions and the battery as the battery sometimes retains its charge whereas sometimes it doesn't and have to use the AC adapter when this happens, don't know whether flashing the BIOS has helped the battery to retain its charge though.
    This question was solved.

    Hello @RocknRollTim,
I understand that your notebook computer is experiencing an issue with the display screen as well as keeping a charge with the battery, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To further diagnose the integrity of your computer's battery, I recommend following this document on Calibrating the Notebook Battery (Windows Vista). This should help re-synchronize the battery with your notebook.
Because the display intermittently stays on the screen when moved a certain angle, I believe the display panel cables are defective. According to the Maintenance and Service Guide for your computer, this part can be replaced with a camera (462455-001) or without (454932-001), and can be found from the multiple vendors below:

  • Several Issues on new Satellite laptop

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5203, part #PCSN4U-02U01U within the last month and I am having several issues with it.  It came with Windows 8 and immediately updated to 8.1. As far as I am concerned, I am a computer dummy. So, any replies, please be very basic.1. When I first boot up the laptop, the keyboard will not work.  The only way I have gotten it to work is to hold down the right shift key for about 30 seconds.  This works but I dont feel like I should have to do this every time I start the computer.2. Occasionally, when I type a website in the search engine, it just refreshes and stays on the current page.  Example: Home page is Yahoo.com, I type in google.com.  It will let me type the website, but the processing circle goes around and just stays on yahoo.com. I have even tried searching for a site in search engine on the webpage and it still does not work.  After 10 or 15 attempts, I can typically get it to start working. 3. Videos - more times than not, when a video pops up, like on facebook or youtube, the screen turns green.  The audio will play but no video. I tried going to Internet Options, Advanced, and making ure the top checfk box is checked.  It is. Still nothing.  I have even tried unchecking the box and then it will work for a little bit. I would reset back to factory default but I have purchased office and quicken that I downloaded (don't have a hard copy) and i don't want to have to buy them again.  Can anyone help?  I am about ready to throw this laptop in the trash and try a different brand.  I appreciate any help

This issue is closed.  I upgraded to Windows 10, made a couple of changes and have not had any issues since.

  • X220 touchpad issues when bottom of laptop is covered

This is kind of a weird issue that just started happening recently. Whenever the bottom of the laptop is covered (eg. when on top of bed sheets, on top of cusions, any type of fabric, etc.) the touchpad stops working or is very very unresponsive.  When just elevating it a bit or slanting the laptop a bit it works fine again.  It also works fine on hard surfaces.  From the looks of it,  it seems like if you put it on something soft that it will cover the intake vents or something it will stop working... The thumb stick or whatever that is called still works fine and the buttons still work fine and the whole laptop still works fine..
Does anyone know the cause of this?  I've had my laptop for 3 years now and this hasn't started happening until a couple months ago..  It's geting really annoying because I always use my laptop in bed and now i can't set it on top of the sheets anymore.

My first guess is your battery is swollen. Do you notice any distortion of the bottom part of the case?
2008 MBP has a battery that is user replaceable, so try running the MBP without the battery using the AC adapter.
If in fact a swelling battery is the culprit, the only real solution is to replace it.
