Jump to Slide not jumping to previous slides

I have created a button to Jump to an earlier slide, but it
does not jump to previous slides - only forward slides. Can anyone
tell me how I can get it to go to a previous specified slide.
Many thanks

  • Jump to slide-not jumping.

I'm adding question slides throughout my project and when I
choose "Jump to slide" for a wrong answer, it won't jump. I am able
to jump if I set the quiz preferences to do so, but I don't want to
set it up that way because the slide I need to jump to is going to
change based on the question being asked. I've only been using
version 3 for a couple of weeks now so I haven't quite figured out
    all the tricks. Any ideas?

Name your target slides and see if that helps. It rather
sounds like you might be using random selection in your quizzes, so
if you are jumping to a slide "number", you are trying to hit a
    moving target.
Also, check to be sure you haven't disallowed backward
movement in the Quiz preferences. That is less likely to be your
    problem but worth a look.

  • Next and Previous slide from Flash Menu

We are currently tasked with updating SAP training that was
created with OnDemand software. The current simulations have a
Javascript menu on each screen which provides various functions
including moving from current slide to next or previous slides.
When the existing movie is played and captured, we lose the
    javascript menu functionality.
I have created a Flash Menu and have imported it to the newly
captured Captivate movie. All links on the menu work except Next
    Slide and Previous slide.
The script I use for the button for the Next slide is as
    follows:
    this.next_btn.onRelease =function(){
    this._parent._parent..nextFrame();
Also I have tried substituting for nextFrame "play" and for
the target path "_root" for the first "_parent."
The variables "rdcmndNextFrame" and "rdcmndPrevious" do not
work unless you are using a playback bar, which detracts from the
    simulation.
Has anyone ever created this type of functionality? It seems
that it would be straight forward. It is most likely a target path
issue. The captivate movie is the container for the flash menu. To
access the captivate movie timeline and move to the next or
previous slide is what I really need.
    Help!

I resolved the issue by selecting to use a playback bar and
then in the Flash file setting the visibility of the playback bar
    to "0".

  • Reading the slide notes

Here's the deal; Running 7.01.237 on Win 7 Pro. Have to create a project that will read the slide notes (using a screen reader) first, simply because this is the only text equivalent approach the customer will accept. The default setting reads the slide notes first, but when the user uses a tab/enter or keyboard shortcut to advance to the next slide, the focus stays at the point of the action, rather than going back to the beginning of the new slide and reading the slide notes.
What I need is a button that goes the next slide and starts at the beginning of that slide, not from the location of the button (since, by default, anything interactive on the screen is going to be presented AFTER the slide notes). Any ideas?

What I've learned: Using the tab/enter function to go through the lesson, the tab focus remains on the last interactive object you selected and will reactivate when you select tab. For example, If I use the playbar or navigation buttons, when I select "Next" or "Forward", the next screen will appear, and the tab will be focused on the "Next" button, meaning the user must either "shift+G" or "arrow up" key back to the "flash start" location, then enter using "arrow down" to hear the slide notes. This is awkward at best, and not the best design.
My current workaround is a twist on the old "D" link structure. I place two extra navigation keys in the top left corner of the slide that allow the user to navigate to the next slide and to the previous slide. These buttons are visible, but very small. I set the tab order on the slide, making the "go to next slide button" first, and the "go to previous slide" button second. Instead of alt text that simply states "select this button to go to the next slide", I've inserted the content of the slide in the accessibility name area for the "next" button. The user can now tab into the slide, hear the content, select enter (or a yet to be determined short cut key combination - JAWS has 24 pages of shortcuts it already assigns) to go to the next slide and then select tab to hear the accessibility name/slide notes for that slide. The visually impaired user now has the ability to navigate the course in a similar fashion to the sighted user, and is given the option to arrow key/tab through the slide (more on reading order tricks some other time) if desired.

  • Turning audio off from previous slide

I put together a CP5 demo for my lead to present at a meeting to show management some of the things CP5 can do.  On the slides I placed and example of the following:
    a Software Simulation
    a video
    project built from PPTs
Each of these had narrations in the example.  WHen my lead when to run through it the audio from each continued to play when the project advanced to the next slide so by the end it was a chorus of voices.  Is there a way to tell CP5 to stop the audio when the slide advances?  I'm thinking it must be an advanced action but I"m not good with these.
    Thanks,
    Susan

Did you add each of these examples as Captivate published SWFs added on separate slides of a master project?
If so, you would effectively have three or more SWFs each with their own audio track.  Unless you explicitly stop the audio for an SWF inserted into a Captivate movie slide, it will continue to play until finished.
For best results in Captivate you should avoid nesting Captivate movies within other Captivate projects.
Just copy and paste all the slides from each separate example into a main project file so that these slides become slides in the master project, each with their own separate audio on each slide.  Then when you publish you shouldn't have problems with the audio playing over the top of other slides.  When you move from slide to slide the audio from previous slides will cease playing.

  • Exporting Slide Notes

    Hi,
When building any eLearning modules in Captivate we always
start the instructional design in another tool. This tool outputs a
basic text file that details the initial design ideas including
    scripts.
From this document we build the basic structure of the module
in Cap3 then we go through slide by slide to ensure the scripts are
correct/make sense etc. I then up date the scripts back in the
other tool, output the text file again and send this to our
    voiceover artist to record.
I figured I could make life easier by copying the scripts
into the slide notes section in Cap3 during the initial build. Then
update them directly while looking at each slide. Then export the
slide notes and send this to the artist.
Sorry for the essay, here are my questions:
Is there a way that I can output the slide notes only,
    without the slide backgrounds?
Is there a way I can easily output only slides with notes?
    Thanks
    Craig

    Hi Craig
About the closest you may probably come is to use the "Export
    XML" option.

  • Cap6 What would prevent a project from jumping to previous slides?

My current project is using buttons with jump to slide to move between four slides in sequence.  When the project is previewed the buttons that progress forward work correctly however none of the buttons that go to previous slides work.
When the progress bar is moved back it does not move past a certain point.  If you move the progress bar forward rapidly you can then access the previous slides and the buttons begin to function correctly.
Has anyone encountered this issue and found a resolution?

How did you check? Preview in browser or after publishing? Are those the navigation buttons on a default playbar or custom buttons?
Do you have question slides? If yes, what are the Quiz settings? Do  you allow Backwards navigation, what is the Required setting?
Do you have pretest slides? Is Branch aware checked?
Which version (exact number) of 6? I'm asking this because the version ending on 199 had some navigation problems.

  • Button-jump to slides not working

    Hi!
I have created a content menu for my project. Created several
buttons on the same slide. Only the first one works - which links
to the next page. The rest of the buttons don't link to the slides
though I have set it to "jump to slide - 5 slide 5".
    Please advise. Thanks!!

Hi Cherry_t and welcome to our community
I've seen this behavior before. In the case I saw, the user
had inserted question slides that were placed between where the
jump was supposed to go and the slide they were on at the time they
clicked the menu item. You may wonder what this would have to do
with impeding progress. Well, it's not so much the fact you have
Question slides, but if my hunch is correct, you also have enabled
a setting for quizzing that says each question MUST be answered
    before the project can continue.
So take a look at the following setting: Project > Quiz
Manager... > Quiz Settings tab and look at the second field
labeled: Required. My guess is that it may say "Required - the user
must take the quiz to continue".
    Cheers and happy Friday! Rick

  • Jump to Slide not working correctly

I created quiz questions in Captivate (5.5) that are interspersed throughout the content and  I want to to jump back to the beginning of the section that contains the relevant content for review if the user gets the question incorrect. I created custom question slides using variables and advanced actions and it seemed to work great.  Now all of a sudden, the [Review] button, which appears if the user gets the question incorrect, does not work. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks Lilybiri,  I know this was posted a while back, but you saved me today!
My quiz scope was preventing my jump to slide from working.  Essentially the quiz scope ends in your deck on the last slide that has a scorable field.  Captivate 5 wasnt allowing me to jump beyond that point from eariler in the deck.  Ex:  My menu was on slide 4.  I had a single scorable click box (for LMS SCORM reasons) on slide 75.  And my last menu item was trying to jump to slide 76.  I found I could not jump to anything beyond 75.  I Simply moved the scorable object to slide 76 (or could have been even further out as needed), and its working again.
If you have nothing scorable, quiz scope shouldn't affect jump to, at least that's been my experience in the past.  You can check using the F9 (advanced interactions) and look in the "Include in quiz" column for the YESs.

  • Button Widget - Need it to jump to next slide, not simply continue

I'm new to Cp 5.5. I was an expert in Cp4 and prior versions, but due to work changes I've not worked with Captivate in a few years and am just getting back into it. Definitely things have changed!
I setup a master slide and at the top-right I placed one of the static SWF button widgets that comes with Captivate. In the options for it I set it to go to the next slide when clicked, however upon preview it is continuing on the same slide and not jumping to the next one. I tried it with a few of the swf buttons and they all work the same. Am I doing something wrong? Or is the code broken on these buttons?
If the latter, then I guess my option, if I really want to keep the look of the button (I do), then is to just use it as an image button?

    Hello and welcome back,
The static button coming with Captivate 5.5 has no pausing point but it should work OK, does for me anywat. How did you test? Can you insert a text caption with the system variable rdinfoCurrentFrame to see if there is indeed no jump to next slide?
If you want the static button with a pausing point, at half its duration, you can download it from my blog:
    What I (dis)like in Captivate 5.5
I do not understand your last question? You want only the image, not the functionalities of that button? You should be aware that only static objects can be inserted on a master slide, not interactive objects.

  • On exit, jump to slide not functioning

Using Captivate V. 6.0.2.325, at the end of slide 19, I would like it to jump backward to slide 6.  Slide 19 contains an audio recording, and many buttons that jump to other slides.  No matter how I preview it (in web browser or not), the jump to slide function doesn't work, it continues on to slide 20 instead.  The project does not have reporting enabled.  I tried removing all the buttons and having only the audio on the slide, that didn't seem to make a difference.
Any suggestions on troubleshooting or other things I might be overlooking?  Also to note, I tried opening a copy of the project in version 7.0.1.237 for grins.  No change.
    Thanks so much!

You can insert a text container (shape or caption) with the system variable cpInfoCurrentFrame. Use the X button in the Format accordion to insert the var. Play from that slide, then that variable will start showing the first frame which will be 1. Default framerate (FPS) for Captivate is 30 frames per sec. Check the duration of the slide, and calculate the number of the last frame from that. When playing 'From this slide' - not F3 but F8 you'll see if the last frame will show up.

  • Why does "Jump to Slide" action disable the quiz slides?

Here is what I have setup:
I have a Captivate 4 program using AS 2. The program is a total of 23 slides (quizzes and tutorials). The program is broken into 3 lessons with one of the slides set as a menu slide. Each lesson button on the menu jumps to the slide that is the first slide of that lesson. At the end of each lesson I have a completion slide with a menu button that jumps back to the menu slide when it is clicked.
    Here is the problem:
When I start the program and complete any of the lessons and return the menu, none of the question slides work in the remaining lessons. The question slides show up, but the radio buttons and submit button are no longer active on those slides. Its as if the program thinks the slide is complte, but nothing is selected. I have narrowed the problem down to the “Jump to Slide” action that I use on the Menu button in the lesson completion slides. If I would complete the program in a linear way without jumping back to the menu slide I don’t seem to have any problems. The problem seems to only occur when I jump backwards through the slides.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? Is this a bug with Captivate or am I missing something?

    Hi there
The unfortunate fact is that question slides work best if you can place them all in a linear fashion where you move from one to another without ever going backward. We often see posts here where things fail to work when you choose to jump backward and forward in the movie.
Perhaps one workaround would be to force a specific order of progression. Sprinkle the "menu" slide so it follows each segment. That way you could also easily implement something like check marks or a progress indicator to show completion of the segment.

  • Slide Navigation not working on revisiting slide

    Hi,
I've got a presentation in 5.5 where one of the slides (Slide 5) has audio, some user entry textboxes, some clickboxes with advanced actions and couple of navigation buttons that appear as soon as the slide appears, a "Back" button which jumps to the previous slide, and "Next" which goes to the next slide, which is a multiple choice question slide (Slide 6) with Clear/Back/Skip/Next.
If I'm at the question slide and go back to Slide 5 I can click on the Next button, but it will not advance as the first time it was clicked, it waits for about 5 or 6 seconds and just goes to a blank gray stage and we're stuck there. The action on the Next button on Slide 5 is Jump to the Next Slide, and the overall slide Enter action is Continue and Exit is No Action, which is the same for the rest of the non-question slides in the presentation. I've tried changing the actions on the textboxes to Continue and to No Action in case this was influencing, but the behavior remains the same. The checkboxes simply assign values to user variables. Overall there are no transitions on the objects and they appear for the remainder of the slide. The Quiz setting is Answer All, and we allow backward movement. is there a system variable that can be reset to allow the user to re-exit the slide?
    Thanks in advance

You might be running into an issue with the Quiz Scope.  Captivate doesn't like you jumping in and out of the quiz scope.
Try placing a scored button on the very first slide of the project, and make sure this button is set as added to the quiz.  This will extend the quiz scope to be from the very first slide and might free things up a bit because you'll always be inside the scope.

  • Next and previous slide doesn't work

    Hey all,
    I'm working on a presentation in Captivate 3. I've added 2
buttons in the slides, 1 button to go to the next slide and the
other jumps to the previous slide. But when I test the
presentation, the slide keeps repeating itself. In other words, it
seems that the 'go to next or previous slide' function doesn't
work. I've also tried 'jump to slide *, but this doesn't work
either. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
And my next question is: How can I 'stop' a slide from moving
on to the next slide? Like in PPT it stops automatically, and
progresses with a mouse click or key press.
    Thanks in advance!
    Greetz,
    Frederik

    Hi Frederik
Normally the presence of a button or a click box will pause
the slide. Are you saying this isn't the case?
Can you describe how exactly you are expecting things to work
    when you play the project?
    Cheers... Rick

  • Audio not working on one slide when publishing to HTML5

I'm in Captivate 8. In one slide in my project no slide audio will play when published to html5. I've tested in Chrome and IE 11. In Chrome, I see the 'speaker' icon that appears when audio or video is running but no sound comes up. (The speaker appears for the length of the audio file ~5 sec) All other slides are fine, and the slide audio plays correctly if I use F3 or F10 to preview the slide inside Captivate.
The slide in question is a 'menu' only reached via an advanced action. I know the advanced action is not the culprit - if I change it to jump to a different slide, the audio on that slide plays without problem.
Similarly, I've verified that if I place this audio file on a different slide, it plays fine, but if I add a different audio file to this slide the problem remains. If I create a button on the problem slide to trigger the audio it plays, (but is unhelpful since I want the audio to play automatically when the user enters the slide).
I've tried removing/re-adding the audio, recreating the slide from a copy, setting the audio to play via an "on enter" advanced action, and adding a play trigger to the advanced action that jumps to this slide. Nothing I've tried gets the audio to play.
I'd welcome any suggestions of what might be happening or how to fix this.
    Thank you,
    Jenny Nilsson

    Hi Lieve,
Thank you, yes, if I view using f12 the audio works correctly.
The "exitBranch" action is associated with a continue button at the end of each branch. If all branches have been visited, it jumps to a new slide, if there are unvisited branches, it jumps back to the menu slide where the audio is not working. (If I edit the action to jump somewhere else the audio will work for the different slide.)
The action was created from a shared action and my colleague and I have used it in multiple other modules without this error.
    Thanks,
    Jenny N
