LOST LDAP Administrator Password

So what do you do when you loose or forget your LDAP Administrator password....don't ask how...

*enter King Kong*

mkpassdb -setpassword <slot ID>
# where Slot-ID is second value of AuthenticationAuthority in users LDAP entry
see man mkpassdb
mkpassdb actually is for directly manipulation of PasswordServer.
You will probably need:

mkpassdb -dump
HTH

• Lost my administration password. What can I do ?

Hello,
I have a new IBook since Christmas. I did choose an administrative password, but it seems I typed it wrong : I cannot find it any more. I'm surprised because the hint question I left is very clear, but well, I guess it can happen. Of course, I tried all the ortograph versions I could think of and none works.
How can I re-initiate this password ?
Thanks in advance
Lise

Hi
Thanks for your answer !
I checked on the article and selected the 'change administration password' paragraph. I followed the instructions, but it seems the CD does not launch itself automatically as it should. What should I do ? I did not have to install the OS the first time, it was already installed.
I also checked if it was an AZERTY/QWERTY keyboard problem but it's not. I also tried any variations that came into my mind with the Shift button on and off but it does not work.

• Lost system administrator password

I've lost the password for account "System Administrator".
How can I reset the "S A" account password? Googling finds ways to reset root or non-admin passwords, but no mention of the account called System Administrator.
I have root / root password. I tried booting from the install disk and using reset password, but the list of accounts it brings up does not include System Administrator. (Well there is one called S A, but it also says "root" and the online tips say do not reset this since it really is root.)
Since I have root access, it isn't truly critical to get the SA password, but it would be nice.
Any suggestions?

Well, here's what confuses me. Per this site (and others), when using install disk to do "Reset Password", I am really resetting the root password. But there's a "System Administrator" entry in my account list, and the implication is that this is not the root account.

Are these descriptions wrong? I know the root password, and using that when trying to login using the "S..A.." acount doesn't work. The web page is 4 years old - is it out of date?

• Lost/forgotten administrator password

I have just bought a new imac and given my old one to my son. He reinstalled Leopard and has got everything up and running but whenever it asks for the administrator name and password it doesn't accept anything we put in.
We have tried my old name and password from before I gave it to him and we have tried his name and password from the account he has set up - which doesn't seem to be an administrator account. He is adamant that he hasn't changed any other passwords or anything but we don't know what to do now. If we try and re-install Leopard again it asks for the administrator name and password !
Is there anything we are missing like a start up default name and password (we have tried 'admin' and 'admin' or failing that do we have to reformat the whole thing and rebuild it from scratch?
Any thoughts welcome.
Thanks
David

Now that's exceedingly weird, A computer that won't start up from the install disk. Cobbyco, after trying Monty's suggestion, putting the install dvd in, turning the computer off, waiting a few seconds, then holding down the C key and pressing the power button, are you continuing to hold down the C key or letting go right away? I usually continue to hold down the c key at least til the screen lights up, that way I'm sure the install disk is the one starting the computer up. The more knowledgeable folks who have replied may think that's unnecessary, to hold the c key down that long, but it's just my own habit. Try it, might work for you too.

I have an early 2009 24" iMac running 10.7.4. I have Find my Mac active and have somehow lost my administrator password.
I have seen other questions and answers. I cannot log out to reset the password. Command + R takes me to the recovery desktop. Track pad and arrow keys allow me to navigate around the recovery screen but I am unable to select Utlilities>Terminal. In fact I cannot select any of the other options e.g. re-install Lion etc.
Getting desparate, so please, can anyone help?

• Lost Administrative Password and Have to update my flash player. How Can I get around this for updates?

Sure needing help here. I've lost my administrative password on my mac and have to update my adobe flash player. I've researched several, seemingly (to me) complicated ways around this. Does anyone have an easy solution. Really need this back up and running! Thanks in advance.

This password prompt is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software.
If this is your personal machine and you don't need a password to log into the computer when it first starts up, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to get past this prompt. If this is your personal machine and your normal password isn't working, check to make sure that CAPS LOCK is off, and type the password carefully.
If this is your work machine and it's asking for an Administrator password, well, you'll need to have a conversation with your friendly IT person.
If you're still stumped, you may need to reset the password on your Mac:

• Reset xserve administrator password

My Xserver 10.5.7 has spontaneously lost its Administrator password so it will not let me in to give it a new one. I don't have the Server Installation disk any longer, is there anything I can do to get back on the Xserver computer?

Hi
You could try logging in as root. At the login window use root as the name and use the same password you use for the admin account. Reset the admin password using any one of the usual methods.
If you have a client OS Installer DVS (10.6, or 10.6.3 for example) or any other OS installer DVD that can boot your server you can use the Reset Password Utility. In other words you don't need the Server Installer Disk if all you want to do is reset the admin password.
You really should try and find the Server Installation Disk. A reinstall would be impossible without it.
