Moved into new house

This is the tale of my house moving saga!
Moved into house on the 16th July, previous house owners cancelled there BT line on the same day.
On the Monday I engaged a company called TitanADSL as they were my previous broadband supplier that had stated to me that they could arrange for a new number and give me an all in one package, of which up until then I had no complaints with there service.
I was given a go live date of Tuesday 27th July, On the Tuesday I received a phone call telling me that there was no spare capacity at the cabinet! and that a new line would have to be delivered to the cabinet.
Was told this would be done by end of play Wed, Thursday evening another phone call, now this one said that a BT line engineer has ordered a new line but there is not ETA and this could take weeks to resolve.
Has anyone else heard of this? or am I being fed a load of ....... (you can fill in the blanks  )

This is quite common.
With the network being set up many years ago there are areas where there is a shortage of line plant.
Broadband has made this problem worse as you need an individual line for it to be provided and you can't share the line as with standard PSTN.
It can take weeks or dare I say months for additional line plant to be provided.  It's all to do with the network in your area and the pressure on available lines.
If somebody near to you ceased a line then you could be given that line when it becomes available.

Could not find that setting anywhere.
It's in AirPort Utility, AirPort panel, Wireless tab.
When I'm within the range of the base station I connect normally, but further away the connection drops despite the fact that the other Airport is very close and light is green. Interestingly, my PB Pro has signal almost everywhere in the house, but my iPhone and Mac Mini don't. Most likely just a hardware difference?
In AirPort Utility with the second Express, in the AirPort panel, Wireless tab, have you checked "Allow wireless clients"?
The second AP does show an IP address: 10.0.1.3.
With a "Configure IPv4" setting of "Using DHCP", that suggests that the second Express really is connecting to the first Express. In that case I have no other explanation of your your problem.

I have an officejet 6500 wireless and it worked just fine - used it for pronting from Quickbooks.  Moved to new house. Because of new router had to reinstall via install CD.  Install worked fine.  When printing checks from Quickbooks I now get a message that says the the printer does not support the font being requested - it used to...what's up with this?

Does this only happen when printing from Quickbooks? Have you tried adjusting the settings in QB's? The meesage you are receiving is saying that the font that QB's is wanting to use is not supported by the printer.
I've included a link to the Hp website that has some updates available for this printer that might help as well.

  • Moving into temp house 2 mths,it has bt,can i shar...

I am moving into my Dads house for one or two months untill i find a new place. I am still under contract with BT and have bt broadband too. It will cost me £150 to get out of my contract, then when i find a new place it will cost me £130 approx to get bt back. Just for the sake of 2 months is there a way I can transfer my bt phone and broadband to my Dads address without disrupting his bt phone and broadband?? I dont necessarily want to use my phoneline or broadband, i just want somewhere to `store` it for want of a better word at little cost. I have heard of something called `Call sSgn` where the you can have 2 lines on one socket and the ring tone is different depending whose number is called, but what about broadband on this setup? Or does anyone have any other ideas? I hope someone can help save me almost £300.

If it would cost £150 to cancel, then it would actually be cheaper to order a new line at your father's address, and transfer to that - the fee for a new line is normally only £130.
Whether or not you have to pay £130 at the new address in 2 months depends on whether or not it already has a working phone line.  If the line is connected, there's no charge to take it over.

  • Moving to new House

I am moving into a new house. I have been a ATT customer for over 7 years now and have all the equipment needed at my new house. Why do I have to wait two weeks to activate the account? Everything is plugged in and ready to roll it's just active on the ATT side and they won't activate until a rep comes out to the house.

They need to check the condition of the wiring, run a direct cable from the outside terminal to the location of the AT&T router, wire your connection at the VRAD to your house, check the speed at the house, then connect everything and test for proper operation.

  • Problem after moving to new house

I previously had no problem with wireless Airport Express connected via cable modem.
Now I've moved to a new house and cannot get it to work. Same Internet Service Provider. The green light on AX is on. Internet Connect utility says I am connected to AX, and that AX is connected to the internet via ethernet (?). My MacBook recognizes the AX name and says it's connected wirelessly. But then I open Safari and cannot connect to the internet.
I've reset AX by pressing the little reset button, and also reset it through Airport Utility. No luck.
Finally, my wireless connection works fine through a neighbor's system.
The only thing I know of left to try is connecting via an ethernet cable, which I don't have now.

Oh, and I can use AX to play music wirelessly just fine.

  • Moved into New Build in August - still no phone li...

I know from reading various forums online that ours is not a unique problem but I'm not sure how it can be resolved. In a nutshell we moved into our new build home at the beginning of August. Once we had received confirmation of the completion date I placed my order with BT for a new phone line. I was advised that it would probably be easier to sort out the phone first and then add on broad band when that was done. My order was placed on 31 July. I was told an engineer would attend on 20 August to connect us up. So far so simple but then it all goes wrong. I check online and the engineer should be with me between 8 and 1. That's all fine. I'm working but my husband will be in as he is on a late shift. Come 12.30 no sign of the engineer and now my husband is concerned that if the engineer does show up, he will need to leave for work before the work is done. I call BT from work - I'm told that the engineer is en route but that he's been delayed. My husband and I therefore agree that I will leave work at lunchtime and be in should the engineer arrive in the afternoon. I call up again in the afternoon - I'm told that there is no engineer en route, I should never have been told that. The connection is delayed because of some outstanding works that need to be done. Thus begins the series of lies and untruths that lead us here. I am told time and time again that works will be done by X date, only to receive a text message telling me that it is not possible to provide the update and that BT will contact me again in due course. Then begins the passing of blame - BT tell me that my developer hasn't completed all the ground works, my developer tells me they have and that it is Open Reach who are delaying. This goes on for many weeks and many phone calls. Eventually I'm told that there is to be a meeting between my site manager and Open Reach on the site on Monday 28 October. Surprise surprise Open Reach fail to attend. Not only that, but they they refuse to reschedule despite requests from the site manager. There is clearly a communication issue here - my developer tells me they have done all they need to do. They are therefore not going to do anything else as they don't know what they need to do. The meeting would at least (one hopes) have cleared that up. I have called BT today and been told that a site surveyor is attending our site on Friday but it seems no one has bothered to tell the site manager (obviously I have passed this on and asked him to call to check arrangements).
So here we are many weeks on and still no phone line. I don't feel like I am getting any sort of proper answer from BT about what the issue is and of course Open Reach won't deal with me direct.
Given the number of discussions about this on various forums, does anyone have any advice or tips on how to resolve this. I know it seems like a small issue but it is starting to impact on us. For example we had some bad news in August that required making numerous overseas calls which we had to make on our mobiles. It really is beyond a joke now and I cannot see that it will be resolved this year!

  • Moved into new flat

I've recently moved into a new flat. The previous tenants were with BT and as far as I can tell, they moved out fairly recently. I've attached a landline phone and there's still a dialtone, but I can't make outside calls. I want to take over the phoneline and had hoped that it would be quite a simple process, but this doesn't seem to be the case!
-The first person I called said I needed a completely new phone line installed and it would cost me £170 (unless I took a broadband deal and an 18-month contract, neither of which I'm that eager to do).
-The second person I called said they can reactivate the phone line, but that this would require an engineer visit, and it would cost me £30. I made it clear at the beginning of the call that as I'm working full-time and living alone, I could only really have a visit at the weekend. We went through the very lengthy process of making the order, then after I'd given my bank details, he mentioned that there were no weekend slots available at all, ever. I asked if the engineer would certainly need access to my property, because I'd read on the website that this is something that's not automatically required, especially if there's no damage to the line and there's a dialtone. He couldn't really give me an answer on that, and said there's no guarantee that he won't need access to the property.
All a bit of a mess really! I basically only want broadband, I'm not too fussed about a landline. I'm quite confused about the whole thing too, as it seems that the account was stopped but the phone line has not yet been deactivated. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? Preferably something not involving engineer visits, as I'm not keen on taking time off during the week!

If they were with BT, then line activation normally is done via software, and no visit is needed.
You can find out the number by dialling 1470 17070. If its a BT number then a voice will read it out to you.
You can tell BT the number, and they should be able to activate it for you, once credit checks have been done.
They may have had a BT line, but paying another provider for their calls. If that is the case, then it may take a bit longer.

  • Moved into new flat - How do i find out what the t...

I've just moved into a leased flat as a tenant and there is a BT box on the wall.
I'm looking to setup broadband etc but all providers require the telephone number at the property.  Is there any way to find this out?
I don't have a phone plugged in atthe moment so i'm assuming no dial tone etc.

Don`t assume there is no dial-tone, as quite often the line is simply "stopped".
Plug a phone in, and if there is dial tone, then dial 1470 17070.
If you are lucky it will give you the number.
You may however wish to ask for a different number, just in case the previous tenant, had problems.
If its not a BT line, you may get a different message.

  • New house need phone line

i have just moved into a house and there is a bt box but when i plug a phone in there is nothing.
the previous owners had virgin tv but stipulated that a bt phone line was connected to the house.  I ideally would like to get phone and broadband from o2.
What charges would i incur for activating this line?  also would i then have to pay line rental to bt as well as monthly payments to 02 for their service?
    thanks

The standard charge for re-connecting a line is the same as for installing a new one - £127.99. There are discounts available, but only if you sign up for BT services.

  • Moving to a house thats been repossessed, can get ...

I am moving into a house that had been reposessed.  According to bt speed checker I can not get infinity.  Our house is no 15 and if I check 13 or 17 they both can get infinity.  How is this possible?  Can anyone from BT check the details for me if I PM?
    Regards,
    Richard

I'm not an expert but one single house in a road being unable to get Infinity does sound like a very unlikely scenario, especially if it's in the middle of the street.    Calling them up sounds like the best move to resolve this.   You'll need to get the telephone line activated before you can have Infinity anyway, so you might as well get started.

    Hi all,
I am just about to move into a new house and I believe the previous owners are going to take their phone number with them.
How do I go about getting my own phone number for the property, and does this cost any money?
If someone could let me know, that would be great.
    Thanks.

Telephone numbers aren't allocated to specific properties, getting a new number is easy.
Just pick which service provider you want, i.e. BT, Sky, TALK TALK, etc then call that company's sale team or if you can place the order online as they normally put the better deals online because it is cheaper for people to do that then phone their call centres.
In regards to cost, again that depends on what company you go with and if they have any offers on. Best thing to do there is shop around.

  • Time capsule not working properly after moving to a new house

    Hello,
I have a macbook pro and a refurbished time capsule 2tb. I purchased both in 2013 and the time capsule at that time was used as both a wireless router for our house and my back up.I recently moved and didn't have access to the time capsule for over a month. Once I settled into the new house I plugged the power cable and internet connection into the time capsule and assumed that automatically it would keep working. It appears that it is backing up my system as I can pull up the application and see appropriate in-time documents however it consistently has a slow orange light blinking. I am not currently using it as a router as we have xfinity and have a different router for the house and when I try to use the time machine instead it cannot connect.
My internet connection is fine and I would like to leave it as is. It also appears the back up function is working for my mac. The question is, does the orange blinking light matter and or is it indicating that I am improperly using the machine? It it because the ethernet cable is attached and can the time capsule work without this?
I have tried resetting the capsule with the 10seconds hold on the reset button etc as seen on other posts but the orange light remains.
    Thoughts?
Thank you for your time and assistance,
    ahahn063

The question is, does the orange blinking light matter and or is it indicating that I am improperly using the machine?
The amber light is like the "Check Engine" light in your car. It blinks for a reason......the Time Capsule has a message for you.
That message might be that there is a firmware update available for the Time Capsule that needs to be installed....or....that AirPort Utility has detected that the Time Capsule is not configured correctly to work with the Xfinity router that you are now using.
To see the message.....open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click on the amber dot
Then look for a Status setting, and click on the small amber dot there
A message will appear to tell you why the Time Capsule is whining, along with a suggested action to fix the issue.
If you are still having difficult, we for you to post back with the exact message that you see.

  • Moving home but not moving into house straight awa...

     Hi
I am moving out of rented accommodation soon and will not be moving into my new house straight away. I currently have a phone/broadband/vision package that has been running for 6 months. I can't find any paperwork from BT to say how long my contracts are set for. My question is can I cancel the services at my old address and then wait a month or so before having them put on at my new address (while still paying)? (although I would like to cancel Vision as we have not watched it for 4 months). If not I am going to have to cancel all the services and I would not like to know how much that will be.. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
      Cheers
          Steve

The early termination charges are here: http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/dynamicmodules/pagecontentfooter/pageContentF...
You'd have to add up all the charges for each of the services.

  • How do I import an iPhoto Library  (V.7.1.5) created on my old MacBook (10. 6.8) into my new Macbook pro (10.9.1) running iPhoto 9.5.1? I tried copying onto memory stick and moving to new mac, but new iPhoto doesn't recognise the library.

How do I import an iPhoto Library  (V.7.1.5) created on my old MacBook (10. 6.8) into my new Macbook pro (10.9.1) running iPhoto 9.5.1? I tried copying onto memory stick and moving to new mac, but new iPhoto doesn't recognise the library.

So what exactly did you copy over? If it's a 12 gig iPhoto Library then it sounds like the files are there. Perhaps the copy went wrong along the way.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
