NOOB with remote question

Hi all, Im a noob here and just purchased the mega 180. I already have a couple of questions that I am hoping someone will be kind enough to answer. I have read through this forum and havent been able to find the answers (maybe looked in wrong place).
First, is it possible to use a different remote than the one provided? And if so, what others can be used or what software is necessary. Does the use of a different remote affect the HI-FI functions? As in, do you lose the ability to control those functions?
Second, could someone please tell me where I can purchase the MSI Mega TV tuner in the U.S.? And, if I get this tuner will the remote be able to control the media center 3 that ships with the mega? Will it be able to control the HI-FI?

Of course you can use a differente remote and, of course you'll lose the HiFi functions
If your new remote have IR-learning function you can make it learn the codes of the original remote and use it directly with your Mega.
In PC mode, you can use almost every remote and learn the commands with Girder (http://www.girder.nl, actually moved to another site)

FMS2 noob with capabilities question

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
I am just learning the basics of FMS2 and have some simple
questions(I hope).
I currently have a php/mysql application that creates mixes
of mp3s.The songs are played using progressive downloads and this
is causing some concerns among the license holders.I understand
that by using FMS2 I can stream the mp3s instead.
My question is about keeping current functionality after
migrating to FMS2.
My mp3 player uses xml playlists.Its is already coded to hook
into flashcom streams if needed. To create a playlist, a user
searches the DB and adds songs to his account. I then use php to
write the added song data to an xml playlist. The playlist is
stored in the users folder, with a copy of the mp3 player. The mp3s
are all pulled from a specific location on the server.
From what I have learned about FMS2 so far(which is very
little), I am not sure if streams can be dynamically created in the
same fashion. I have seen plenty of info about FMS2 streaming mp3s
from a specific playlist with the mp3 all coming from the
application folder, but not any info about what I am trying to
attempt.
I would not be doing the coding myself, I can handle
php/mysql but I know very little about action script and have
little time to learn. But I want to know if I am barking up the
wrong tree. Are dynamic streams possible? I dont want to look like
an idiot when I try to hire someone to code an impossible solution.
Im not looking for a how to, just want to know if the capability
exists in FMS2

Yes... everything you're asking about can be done with FMS,
and fairly easily at that.

Noob with a question about overclocking.

I just picked up an MSI A6000-029US laptop and am looking to overclock it to get a bit more from the processor. For reference, hardware follows:
Chipset: NVIDIA MCP79MVL
Processor: Intel C2D T6600 2.2GHz; FSB 800MHz
GPU: GeForce 8200M G
RAM: 2x 2gb 800 MHz Samsung PC2-6400 DDR2
I have installed the 64-bit Windows 7 upgrade and checked out an overclocking guide on slickdeals.net, but could not use the tutorial as I am missing a couple of drivers that did not transfer when I changed the OS to 64-bit. (SMB/SMU memory driver being one of them)
I am new to overclocking and working with the BIOS, etc., so any advice is appreciated.

I'd be surprised if you find any overclocking related setting in your bios. Make no mistake laptops can be overclocked but tools for that aren't widely available. You may reach for modded BIOS versions if the lappy if popular enough, but looking at the specs I'd wouldn't say so, so my guess is that you'll fail to find any modified BIOS revisions.
On the other hand, you may very well succeed with tools like setFSB which has the biggest number of supported PLL's - clock generators among any software of that kind.
Oh, and since you're using a nVidia based chipset, you may check out the nVidia control panel, if you're lucky it may allow for some O/C.

Noob with a question, help plz!

A month ago i got a msi neo2 and amd3500 and set everything up fine, kept memory timings on auto etc. System booted fine. Then i decided to oc my comp, before i realized i should probably have a more powerful psu. Whenever i pressed enter to go into the HTT setting my comp would lock up. So i upgraded the psu, got this new ocz rev2 pc4000, and decided to give it another shot. The HTT option STILL freezes my comp. Its stuck on the 5x setting. Why is this option locking up my comp and how could i fix it? My main concern now is to get this RAM to run faster, and oc'ing my comp would be nice. Oh and when i installed the ram it wouldnt boot unless i put them in the furthest two slots, slot 3 and 4.
(I found the fsb setting at 200 but cant find the mulitplier as well, is this the HTT ?)

if you plan on overclocking, i would update the BIOS to the latest version, clear CMOS and then try again.
HT multiplier are for the communication between the proc and the chipset (FSB x HTmult). If you plan on raising the FSB, lowering the mult could be needed.

VM with remote access VPN without split tunneling

Hello experts,
I have customers who require to use VM in their laptop. These users also require to VPN to Corporate network to do their job. However when they do remote VPN to corporate Network (ASA VPN concentrator) from their VM host machine, they loose their access to their VM guest machines. This problem was not happening when they used cisco VPN client which has gone end of life and support as of end of July 31, 2012. In Cisco VPN client (IKEV1) if we set the protocol to udp they had no problem to keep their connectivity to VM machines while connected to corporate with remote access VPN. However this feature does not work in new Cisco VPN client which is called AnyConnect. ( NOTE: I am using IPSEC IKEV2. NO SSL at this time).
My Question to Experts:
1. Was the ability to maintain connection to VM guest machines, while connected to VPN without enabling split tunneling a security flaw in the old cisco VPN client?
2. Is there a way to maintain connectivy to VM machines installed in a computer and still connect to remote access VPN concentrator through host machine? (My question is about AnyConnect client only using IPSEC IKEV2 and I do not want to enable split tunneling)

When I open an email there is a small blue box with a question mark instead of the picture. How do I change my settings so the pictures show up?

I'm not able to view pictures in gmail. Where the picture should be is a outline and a small blue square in the middle with a question mark. How do I fix that so I can see my pictures?

Try going to Mail/Preferences, Viewing, make sure display remote images in HTML messages box is checked.

Problems with remote control and user accounts - error 1759?

We're running:
-XP Pro SP2 clients with Zen SP1 IR3a agent, 4.91 SP2 Netware client.
-We are NOT running Middle Tier.
-Novell servers are running Netware 6.5 SP7, E-directory 8.7.3.10b or 8.8.
-Zen server is also SP1 IR3a.
We have no problem using remote control on workstation objects. We are having intermittent issues with remote controlling user objects. When the issue occurs, we receive the following error, "Error 1759: The selected user is not logged in on any workstations" even though the user is in fact logged in. After some more research, it appears that the "networkAddress" attribute of the user object is blank so we feel that this is the root cause. My question is what would cause the networkAddress attribute to randomly not update? For instance we had a user (verified his login) who we could not remote via the user object (workstation object worked). We checked his networkAddress attribute and found that it was empty. User rebooted and logged in again and his networkAddress attribute populated, and then we could remote control him via the user object. Now this isn't always the case after a reboot. There doesn't appear to be any pattern to when the networkAddress attribute does or does not update. In fact, this particular user has a laptop so he boots it up fresh every morning yet he was not showing a network address when he logged in initially today.
We've followed the troubleshooting steps in Novell Documentation without any success. Is there anything else that we might be missing, especially with respect to getting the networkAddress attribute to update? We ran a DSreport on that attribute and found about 500 out of a total of 1500 users had no networkAddress. Some of those are sure to be legitimate but that number is much too high for the number of people that should be in the office.
I've read some older threads on the subject but none of them really provide a firm solution. Also most of the older threads reference Middle Tier which we are not using.

Clear doubt on standalone IS and integrate with remote BI4

For Information Steward 4.1 or earlier release 'Simplified User Experience for BI Users' was available only when Information Steward was deployed on 'Shared BI Platform'. What's the exact meaning for the above, does it means starting from 4.2 SP1, linear data and impact analysis should work even without sharing the common BIP platform? And if yes, below steps from note 1907168 should be the right source to configure?

From IS 4.2 SP0 Patch 2, IS supports the lineage/impact and BOE Metadata Integrator with remote BI 4.1 SP1 (or higher compatible patches) when installing DS and IS with IPS 4.0 SP5 on the separate landscape.
For the new installation, the supported landscape is
On machine 1, install BI 4.1 SP1
On machine 2, install IPS 4.0 SP5 (or later patch), DS and IS 4.2 SP0 Patch 2
If users want the BI Launch Pad Integration feature from BI 4.1 SP1 (or higher compatible patches) or want to collect the metadata from BI 4.1 SP1 installed on machine 1, refer to the following SAP Note 1906580 to install and configure the following:

this was especially related to the customers who want to use the direct and native integration of the Data Lineage and Impact Analysis Graphs and the Metapedia Terms within the BI Launchpad itself.
Before IS 4.2 SP1 customers who wanted to enable their BI Users to view e.g. directly within the BI Launchpad the information where the data for a specific report was coming from were only able to do that when the IS installation was on top of the BI installation. Now they can even have a separated installation of their BI and IS (on IPS), but are still able to view the lineage and impact analysis within the BI Launchpad.
This does not affect the collection of metadata information from the BI system and also from the beginning of IS it was possible to view lineage and impact analysis or metapedia terms within the IS UI itself, independent of the standalone or on-top installation.

My organization is currently looking to migrate towards using MBAM from McAfee's Endpoint Encryption product. Our environment may be a little different from a lot of other companies though.
I've watched a few installation guides (including the newest from TechEd this year) and still have a couple of questions for deployment for our organization.
The computers that will be encrypted, they will be set up internally on our network and then shipped out of our network perimeter. This means that communication needs to take place over the internet. Does the MBAM server support open web communication with
remote devices over the web (assuming over port 443 or designated port)?
Secondly, if we need to restrict access to a computer remotely (as in disable a user) does MBAM automatically take care of this for us, or will we need a open facing domain controller that can be hit from the web as well?

First, MBAM clients requires access to the MBAM service to update compliance status as well as store new recovery keys (if one is used). Other than that it is fine to use the PC outside of the corp network without access.
Secondly, MBAM doesn't help you to disable a user on a local machine. It doesn't manage users at all. Perhaps I missunderstand you.

Scheduling procedure with remote db = logon denied

I´m having two DBs (db1 and db2) which are connected by a database link and a non-dba user "xyz" in both DBs.
I´m starting a procedure in db1, which catches data from a table in db2 and combines it with data from db1 - it works perfectly fine.
Now I want to automate this procedure with the scheduler, so I´m getting the privileges (GRANT CREATE JOB TO user xyz) => works perfectly fine, too.
Whats the problem?
The procedure runs in the given time interval, but I´m always getting a ORA-01017 error invalid username /password; logon denied.
If the procedure runs manuel (outside the scheduler) it works perfectly.
Do I need additional privileges or is there something wrong with the db link? (e.g. the username and pw will not be committed).
Sorry to bother you with these questions - if you need additional info, please let me know.

forget to mention: If I´m running the scheduler with a procedure, that accesses only local table, it works...but if I try to access a remote table (which is normally outside the scheduler no problem) it doesn´t work.

The mystery has been solved: the DB link was created by another user, thats why the remote connect didn´t work - now I´ve created a fully qualified link and it works :)

Ipod Universal Doc with Remote Issue

Wonder if you can help, I have a 80GB black classic iPod and have bought the Uni Doc with Remote - The Remote will only control the sound and nothing else. I have tried re-syncing the remote but with no luck

Hmmm, good question. Its at home right now and I'm at work... I want to say that it is a flat receiver. I bought it with the iPod Touch, it came with about 8 different plastic pieces to fit a few different iPods, and it doesn't have the S-video connector in the back... just an audio out, and the same dock connector slot in the back which is hooked up to my component cable. It works with both my iPod Touch and iPhone 3G, it displays tv shows and movies perfectly on my tv, but it won't jump back and forth in my play list. I think I've got 3 or 4 different remotes lying around; I assumed that they were all the same, but is it possible that the remote that came with the dock is different than the remotes that came with the Mac Mini, MacBook, and MacBook Pro?

PSP, router, and modem issues with Remote Play

I haven't seen a post on this topic yet, so I'll explain the issue. The Playstation 3 is networkable either through a wired ethernet or wireless connection. The Playstation Portable is also networkable over wifi. The PSP has always worked at hot spots for web surfing and gaming. With the release of the PS3, there was a new feature called Remote Play, which let you connect your PSP to your PS3 and stream the PS3 interface. You can manipulate the options, watch videos and listen to music, just like you are at the controls of the PS3. The PS3 has to be put in "remote play" mode for this to work.
Last week, Sony released an update that made this functionality work over the internet. For most people this worked just fine. Others had to open ports here or there, but there is a group of users that cannot connect from a hot spot, but can connect over the internet at home. The original remote play connection (before the update) was a direct connection between the PS3 and PSP. Now you can connect through your router at home (scan for your router and connect that way). This connection works since the PS3 and PSP are both connected to the same router in your home. When you go to a hotspot, you can get all the way up to the point that the PS3 streamed screen should start, but it times out.
This is taken directly from the PS3 owner's manual:
"If the PS3 system is connected to the Internet via two or more routers, communication may not work correctly."
It seems like internet connection from a hot spot doesn't work because the request for the PS3 gets lost between two routers when it gets to my home network.
Finally to my question. It seems like my Westell 6100 is functioning as a router, as is my WRK54G. When i look at my modem's settings, it is set up as a bridge protocol in routed bridge mode. Everything else I try makes me lose my internet connection.
Anybody know what I'm talking about or have any suggestions?

A lot of PS3/PSP owners are having this issue with Remote Play. I have a WRT350N and have been through Sony forum as well as this one to know about all setups from port forwarding to giving your PS3 a static IP and placing in DMZ. I can say I had success connected via or public wi-fi but I also noticed how unstable Remote Play is. There will be times you can connect to it but if you turn your PS3 completely off (not standby) and back on you will pretty much need to setup your PSP again with the PS3 for Remote Play. The problem itself lies more with Sony and not our modem and routers except that fact that you do have to make some minor changes like disable UPnP, forward ports and etc. I own the Sony LocationFree Player which uses a similiar function like Remote Play but instead gives you control over your cable tv remotely anywhere on laptop or psp. LocationFree never failed me since day one because Sony created a DDNS for it which worked for me no matter who my carrier was or what router I have used over the years. Remote Play was introduced later for PS3 which pretty much like LocationFree but Sony doesn't provide a DDNS for it, instead we have to go through all the crazy configurations which is never stable. However you can register for a DDNS at DynDNS.org and configure your router with it which I have done before and found it to be very stable. No matter what Sony still needs to address the issue with the PS3 communication for Remote Play. From the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility. Don't click Continue.

After repairing the disk, try to start up normally.
Important: If Disk Utility finds issues it cannot repair, you may need to back up as much of your data as possible (or use Time Machine to back up to a different disk), then erase the disk and reinstall Mac OS X. You should back up important files and data before erasing a drive. Erasing deletes everything on the hard disk (including things on your desktop). Also, you can install Mac OS X onto an external disk, start from the external disk, and use Migration Assistant to transfer items from your usual internal Mac OS X startup disk to the external disk, then erase the internal disk and reinstall Mac OS X.
If the issue persists, and Disk Utility didn't find any irreparable issues, quit Disk Utility, quit the Installer, select your disk when prompted, and restart.
If the issue continues, reset PRAM. Note: After resetting PRAM, if the computer starts up normally, reselect the startup disk in the Startup Disk preferences.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, start up from the Mac OS X Installation disc and reinstall Mac OS X.
if none of this works but you have to format the entire disk, which is not very fun forsomeone, and if you have important data on your disk that you need, how do you do?

first a little info about me, I'm IT technician then a couple of years and have never beena fan of the mac, and will probably not be there, because I think that off "giant optimized"systems have no security, personally, I want the mac to be release an update so it forcing / or remind the user to backup with time machine, so no I will not get me one of your machines, enough about that, I had a client who had this problem, (ps / something allhave to remember is that all customers are idiots and do not know what a computer realy are, that is why it remains "the rule 101"!
His desk was this apoblemet, and I am recommending not to open up his mac becausethis would guarantee his disappearance, he had also no backups at something so long story short, he was fu ***,,
However, he had all his business accounts on the computer and much much more, so hemade the choice to give me permission to open up the machine, I went through all theguides that were on the Internet and Disk Utility was not helpful at all, nor disk Wari disc to start up, even when I plug in the drive as an external drive on another mac wanted itabsolutely does not come up.
However, so when I connected the disk in a PC with Windows 7, install a program thatmade it possible to see the disk in my computer but could not go into it because then it said that there was something wrong, but then I thought for a bit spruce, windows can see all unknown hard disk format "RAW" guidelines for adding, then it's just to make a RAW backup (google it) and Woll! now i have a copy of all his data, would also like to point out that this may take time, so be patient.

so if you really have to have a backup of data you need the following;
a PC whit windows
a Controller that convert SATA to USB
a program that makes creating a driver for HFS + disks
a back-up software for RAW drives

Hardware acceleration has been disabled because it is in compatible with remote desktop

So I go and lock my pc only to come and find that after effects says hardware acceleration has been disabled because it's incompatible with remote desktop
I have looked around and others have said to delete a certain preference file but they did not give the file location
Does anyone know where this pref file is?

And what is the question? C'mon, the files and folders are properly labeled. Don't make it any more complicated...
