Previously networked computer does not see network

I recently exchanged my Airport Extreme for a Time Capsule. My iMac picked it up immediately. Another networked iMac has been a little bit of a problem, since it occasionally gives me a message that it is not connected to the internet, despite the fact that the network shows up. Through trial and error I can usually get it back on track. My biggest problem is the Powermac G5, which always picked up the network, and which does not see it at all. I entered the name of the network with the password, and got a message that there was an error connecting to it. No network at all shows up in the drop down menu for Airport. What am I doing wrong here???

They may not help, but they're easy to try and shouldn't hurt anything.

    1. Because it is either the same IP as the new one or hidden by being plugged in as a second router.
To access it, isolate one computer from the existing network and plug it directly by ethernet to a lan port of the TC. Use the erase function in the TC to remove all the content of the hard disk.
Then go to the internet tab, connection sharing and select off bridged. You can then reconnect the TC to the network.. and the computer as well. The TC will act as bridged device.. getting IP from the main router and should then appear correctly in Airport utility.
    2. I covered in 1. But you just go in airport utility manual setup. disk, and you will see the erase function. You can also set it to bridge and leave the erase until you put it back in the network.. but be careful you erase the right one.
    3. You can use the old TC via wired or wireless.. although I would always stick to wired connection if possible. Speed on wireless is 10x worse than wired.
Also note the reliability goes down dramatically after 2 years.. a series 1 3 years old or more is ebay fodder unless you want to repair it. Do not trust vital data to it.. when it dies you will have issues recovering it.
    4. Yes, all apple routers will function as wireless extenders. when you do that the ethernet ports turn off so it becomes a purely wireless device.. strange apple decision on what you want to use your TC for.

  • HP DJ4645 scanner does not see Mac OS 10 Maverick and computer does not see scanner

HP DJ4645 scanner does not see Mac OS 10 Maverick and computer does not see scanner.
I installed drivers and software from the HP website. Printer works fine but scaner does not work over WiFi. I did not try over USB because printer and computer are not in same room.

    Hi @mamedina ,
I see that you are not able to scan over the wireless network. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (Deskjet 4645)
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
I have provided a document to make sure the Scan to Computer is enabled. You will have to select 10.8, then Network Connection. A 'No Computer Detected' or 'Connection Error' Message Displays When Scanning for HP Officejet 4610 ...
If you are still not able to scan, then I would connect the printer to the computer by a USB cable to see if it is a network issue or  the scan port might be blocked on the router. Unfortunately the printer isn't accessible in the same room, but this will rule out a software issue or a network issue. You can contact the router company to check and open these ports 9220/9500/427 on the router for scanning.
Please let me know the outcome.
    Have a nice day!

  • My computer does not see my printer

Hi: I am having a problem with my HP Photosmart 4500 printer. My computer does not see it. I have a USB connected to it, have uninstalled and installed the software two time, dowloaded the latest update and nothing. Add to that, I can not connect it by WIFI. WIFI on the printer is on but again, it's no where on any of the screens. The only variable I can think of that has changed has been the router I got recently from AT&T. Everything else works with the WIFI but no computer. I'm running 10.7.5. I have read the install instructions and nothing seems to be working. The one thing I do get from the HP install disc is a message reading the printer isn't recognized but there are no updates in support. OK, what am I missing here?

Try these steps to uninstall the current software using the HP scrubber and then reinstall using the current HP driver available through Apple.
To do so, perform the following steps:
    1. Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ and then click on “HP Uninstaller”
    2. Next click “Continue”
    3. Highlight the device on the left pane.
    4. Press and hold control+alt+command on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on “Uninstall”.
    5. After you do this, you will see a pop up that asks you if you want to uninstall all HP software. Please note, that in doing this, it will remove any other HP printers that you also have installed.
    6. Click “continue” and wait for the program to finish.
    7. After it completes, reboot your computer.
Once the computer is back on, do the following steps:
WARNING: This is will delete all of your printers.
    1. Go into “System Preferences” and then select either  “Print & Scan” or "Print & Fax".
    2. Right click (or control + click) on the rectangle listing your printers and then select “Reset Printing System”.
After you have reset the printing system, let's make sure you have the most recent HP driver package installed.
You can do this two ways. First,  check for any available HP Update's by clicking the Apple icon and then Software Update. If there are any updates available, they should show up here. However, if the printer is connected by USB, it will not show any available updates. The other option is downloading the drivers from Apple's website.
You can download it here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL907/en_US/HPPrinterDrivers2.14.dmg
Once you have downloaded the driver package and completed the installation, you will want to plug your printer back in (if you were using a USB connection).  After the printer is plugged back in, go into your print settings under System Preferences > Print & Scan. To add the printer, click the plus sign. You should see your printer listed here. If not, click "Add Printer or Scanner." Click the name of your printer and then click "Use:” box.  Make sure that says the name of your printer and not AirPrint. If you are using the printer wirelessly, make sure that the printer "Kind:" is set to Bonjour or Bonjour Multifunction. Click "Add" down in the bottom right hand corner.
This will add your printer back using the most recent HP print driver available through Apple. Let me know if this helps resolve your issue or not. If it doesn't, let me know I will see what else I can do.
    Best of luck,
    Kyle

  • New computer does not see others on network

I have a home office network with 3 computers on a WRT110.  One laptop is connected wirelessly.  When installing a new laptop (which will replace one w/ a bad video) it connects immediately (when using hard wire connection) thru the router to the internet but does not see the other computers nor do they see it.  I don't see any option to make a connection disk in the WRT110 manual or software.

Make sure File and Printer Sharing is Enabled...Also make sure both the computer's are in the same workgroup...
The default workgroup name in Windows Vista has been changed to WORKGROUP. In WindowsXP, the default workgroup name is MSHOME...
Also go into the computer software firewall on each computer, and set it to "trust" the other computers on your network.
If your firewall or PC security program keeps a list of trusted applications (also known as a "trusted zone"), then make sure that your router is in the trusted zone on your firewall...

  • Computer does not see ipod, no charge

My computer doesn't see or charge my ipod nano. It is only a few months old and this is the third time I have plugged it into the USB port to charge. The backlight came on when I plugged it in, but I didn't pay attention to what it said. When I came home from work, the screen was dark with the apple logo in the background. I reset it and the screen went dark. I changed USB ports to all available ports to no avail. The USB ports on the computer are good since they are running other devices. The power is not able to be lowered automatically by the computer. I have tried all of the "R's" given by the support center again to no avail. The computer does not recognize the ipod and no power seems to be given it at all. I am at a complete loss as to what to do. If anyone has a brilliant fix for this I will be ever so grateful. Thank you for your time!

    try reinstalling the ipod software

  • Computer does not see Airport Extreme

First let me say that I am a total "newbie" to Macintosh computers and the whole networking thing....so excuse my lack of knowledge. Here goes my problem:
I have a brand new iMac and a 2 year old PC. I want to have them both access the internet, not nessecarily at the same time. I bought the new airport extreme. I would like my PC to be wired in and the iMac to be used upstairs wireless. When I hooked up the Airport to the PC and installed the CD that came with it, the airport utility could not find it. The light on the front continued to flash amber. I also could not connect to my DSL when it was all hooked up. I am using a speedstream 4200 modem. I think I have everything connected correctly...phone line to modem, modem to WAN port on the airport, airport to computer. Did I connect the wrong things or is it an issue with my PC? I am very frustrated. I have not tried the airport on the Mac because I would like it to be wireless. Do i need a wireless card on the PC also?

Use the iMac to configure the Airport Extreme and ensure that it is working and that the iMac can access the internet.
This guide written for the older base station will also work with the new AEBS.
Connecting a XP PC to a Airport Network via the LAN port of the AEBS

Note that the PC does NOT need the Airport software on it to be connected to the AEBS.

  • Airport on computer does not see any wifi networks

Airport worked fine until recently and worked fine when I installed new OS a while back. I can see no wifi networks including my Airport Express. My other Mini sees it and others as well as my MacBook so it seems to be an issue with that computer.
Sometimes I can log into my network by choosing Join Other Network but sometimes it doesn't work like now. Earlier today I logged in in this method and then it dropped out and I haven't been able to connect again. Any suggestions as to what the problem is?

Yes, I had thought of that too. Just wanted to avoid buying another card without being sure of the problem.
I've now tried setting up two routers to the 5GHz band, and sure enough, they both work and their wifis are picked by the macmini. All the other wifi networks I see around my house seem to be 54g.
So it seems that only the b/g part of the macmini's wifi card is broken, while the n part is working properly. Do you know if this is possible or if there is a configuration in the macmini that is forcing it to only use the 802.11N?
    Thanks for your help anyway!

  • C4599 on wirless network / computer does not see scanner

Printer works fine and is seen by home computer and laptop, but it keeps losing the scanner.  I'm reinstalling software now as I type.  Any ideas?

One more thing to try is to set a DHCP reservation for your printer's and computer's IP address in your wireless-router.  Then reinstall the SW.
The HP printer SW sometimes gets lost when the IP address for either the printer or computer changes after the SW has been installed.
You can do the same thing using static IP addresses.  I prefere DHCP reservations; they are safer since your sure not to get a duplicate IP address on your network using this method.

  • TimeCapsule/Airport:One computer does not see the other

I recently moved to a Time Machine for my networking and backing up needs. All seems well... But I can not figure out what needs to be done to fix this situation: Both laptops are on the same network; Laptop B can see Laptop A in the finder. But I cannot see Laptop B from Laptop A! (And I no longer see the "network" icon in the "Devices" portion of the finder, bt maybe that's a Version thing.)
I'm on the latest version of OSX, 10.5.5. I have previously had everything networked on an Airport Express (and before that, on a dome airport).
    Any hints? Clues or solutions?
    THANK YOU!
    Kath

Ok, since both Macs are using the TC for wireless network connectivity they should both be getting an IP address in the range of 10.0.1.x. Are they? I assume, from your description, that they are so let's double check their configurations to make sure they are sharing.
Please check out the following Apple article to make sure you have both Macs set up properly: Mac OS X: About File Sharing

    Hi, Robert.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your device is not recognized by iTunes, I would recommend the steps in the article below.  Start with the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

When  updated my wireless router (AC 1200) my 8500a had to go to the "guest network".  The printer sees the router and prints the test pages fine, the computer does not see the printer and I can not print.  During the setup, when I enter the IP address off the printer, the computer does not find it.  What can I do? I am running windows 7 premium.
