Severe connectivity issues OfficeJet 6700

Just bought OfficeJet 6700. Downloaded installation from internet to my laptop - Windows 7. Every 2 minutes or so I get a message telling me that the scan to computer is no longer activated  - network connection to printer is lost. Therefore if I want to print something more than a page long - it stops about 2 pages in. Have re-installed twice - no difference.
Same problem if I connect the printer to my router with an ethernet cable.
Am seriously considering installing to use a USB cable which would make this new printer not a lot more useful than my old trusty £10.00 deskjet. Having not tried this I have no idea whether this would work either.
Help!

Jo - Sorry to hear yours never got sorted. I hope I have a bit more luck.
Rudy - Thanks for coming back again. Regarding ports being forwarded, it's not going to be a problem with the router since the firewall only works between the LAN and WAN. If we forget about the wireless laptop for a moment, both the printer and desktop are plugged into adjacent ports on the BT hub so at that point it's only layer 2 switching involved - TCP/UDP ports and indeed IP as a whole, is not used since IP is layer 3.
This has got me thinking though, that perhaps it's something to do with the PC firewall. Both PC's use Norton Internet Security. In Norton it says the printer app has full rights, but now I'm not convinced. Are you aware of any issues with Norton relating to this problem?

  • HP PhotoSmart 7510 suddenly has severe connectivity issues

I have a HP PhotoSmart 7510 printer since about 2 months. Initial setup worked like a charm and the printer has been working pretty much perfectly for the last 2 months. Wireless printing, scanning and internet access on the printer (e.g. for Facebook photos) all worked. Just from time to time i would get the occasional (mildly annoying) message on my computer saying "scan to computer is currently unavailable" but it usually worked itself out and whenever I needed it to work, it did work.
But since a few days ago, it has some severe connectivity issues. I didn't change any settings on the printer, router or computer - the issues just started appearing by themselves. I startet getting much more frequent messages on my computer saying "scan to computer is currently unavailable". I noticed I couldn't print anymore, and restarting computer, printer and/or router didn't help at all. The only thing so far i managed to print wirelessly since the problems started were the first 5 pixel rows of an image I tried to print, the rest didn't transmit.
It seems the printer still connects to the WLAN but printing and scanning no longer work, and whenever I try to access a web service on the printer (like Facebook) it says it has no internet connection, even though the WLAN light is lit up (not blinking) and all the wireless status reports say "congratulations, no problems found" and display IPs etc. just like normal.
I looked at the threads "PhotoSmart 7510 connects to router, but not to the web.", "Wireless printer (HP Photosmart 7510) not connecting to network" and "Photosmart 7510 won't connect to Web Services" but they weren't a big help. Activating EWS didn't work because even though the printer showed its IP address to be 192.168.1.3, when I entered this in my web browser it didn't find the printers configuration page.
I tried the following steps from one of the threads:
    1. Restore the Network defaults
    2. Unplug the printers power cord while it is still on. Leave it unplugged and walk to the router.
    3. While the router is still on, unplug the power cord from the router, leave it unplugged for 30 seconds, then reconnect the power cord to the router. Once plugged back in the router should power on automatically.
    4. Plug the power cord back into the printer. Once plugged back in the printer should power on automatically.
    5. Run the Wireless Setup Wizard to reconnect the printer to your wireless network.
    6. Try enabling Web Services.
I followed these steps exactly. Interestingly, even though I had done step 1 and restored the network settings to factory defaults, after turning back on, the printer somehow still had its old settings saved and reconnected to the network.
It seemed to have fixed the problem, the printer finally had internet access again (Facebook app showed my photos) and scan to computer found my PC. But after just about 3 minutes, the printer had lost its internet connectivity again. When opening the Facebook app, it displayed the same error message it did before. And printing no longer worked as well.
So, what is wrong with this printer?! It has the newest software update by the way (I checked during the 3 minutes it had internet access.) My computer is a HP Windows 7 x64 machine (EliteBook 6930p) and the router I'm using is a Netgear WNDR3700.
I specifically bought this printer for my studies at university. In one week i have my exams and in order to study I REALLY need to be able to print some of my course materials! So any help as quickly as possible would be greatly appreciated. Or do you think this is a case for a warranty replacement, considering the printer's really strange and error-prone behavior?
    Thanks a lot!

I can assure you that it is not a router issue.  It appears to me that it is a driver compatibility with Windows OS.  After trying to get to the bottom of this since my Photosmart 7525 was new and reading just about every forum and blog, I have come to the conclusion that the issue must be related to the HP driver itself.
The issue does not seem to affect any Mac systems, and from one forum someone was able to fix it by downloading new drivers compatible with 64-bit systems (which seem to not be affected by the glitch).  But that leaves us 32-bit people stuck with the current driver which does not work.
The printer is connected with good signal to the wireless router (no matter who's router it is and what configuration is made).  The printer can be pinged from the router and any computer on the network which is not currently being affected by this issue.  However, the affected computer fails pings by either request timed out, or destination host unreachable.  Pings are successful from the affected computer to any other device on the network.  The only way to recover (at least for a few days) is to reboot the affected computer.
Also, from the display on the 7525, the network tests pass without issue.  I can also download and print content from the internet with no issues.
Please do a quick google search of this issue and you will see several THOUSAND entries of people with the same request.  This is a serious issue that people are having and everything is pointing to an HP problem (not routers, improper installation of software or drivers, etc...).  I agree with several other customers that HP should be on the hook for this fix.  I will give it another couple weeks, then back to the store for a reliable unit from another competitor (Canon, Lexmark, etc..)
Thank you in advance for escalating this issue to product engineering,
    S. Hunn

  • Mac can not connect to OfficeJet 6700 while windows machine can ...

    Hello all.
I have an HP Officejet 6700 for more than a year. It is connected to a wireless network (Netgesr wireless router), both Mac an Windows PC printing and scanning successfully until yesterday…
Since yesterday the Mac cannot print or scan, while windows machine still works fine …
    Mac OS version is 10.9.4
I changes the printer from DHCP to static IP, I deleted the printer from the Mac and installed it again from the HP site but at the HP Utility I get stuck in the Add Officejet 6700 (08B0D2) Bonjour Multifunction with an “Unable to communicate with the printer at this time” error message.
Again all of this while windows machines communicate and work perfectly fine.
    Any idea?

    Hi @AmitFish,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are not able to connect your HP Officejet 6700 Premium to your Mac, everything was working fine and all of a sudden you get a communication error.
I would first like you to make sure you have installed all Mac updates, please run the updates and let me know if this helped?
If not, please complete the steps listed here: Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection, I know you have previously set a Static IP, please continue and let me know the outcome.
I will watch for your reply.

  • HP Officejet 6700 Premium cannot connect to wifi network

Since a few days, our HP Officejet 6700 Premium can no longer connect to wifi network. All our other devices as laptops, smartphones, tablets have no difficulty in connecting to the wifi. reconnecting and entering the WPA password doesn't help.
The printer says the SSID of our wifi network is not unique, it detects multiple access points.
What can I do to solve this issue.

    Hello there @karatejan
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I read about the issues you're facing when trying to connect your Officejet 6700 printer to your network recently. I have three suggestions for you, and please let me know the results when you are done.
Try power cycling the network devices:
Turn off the printer and computer and unplug the router for 1 minute (do not press any buttons on the router).
Plug the router back in and wait another minute, next turn on the printer and computer, and run the set up again.
If you are running a Windows OS, from your PC, perform a Clean Boot, which will turn off the start up programs just in case there is something blocking the installation. Try the USB to wireless set up again.
Check your router settings to match these recommended settings:
    1. Network name and password to have no spaces or punctuation.
    2. If using WPA2 security, switch to WPA personal.
    3. Dual broadcast Wireless b/g/n (printer may only connect to g).
    4. Mac filter needs to be turned off.
    5. Firewall settings need to be at there default settings, or set to a lower security.
    6. Multicasting "on".
    7. Following ports need to be un-blocked:
    Incoming (UDP) ports : 137, 138, 161, 427
    Outgoing (TCP) ports : 137, 139, 427, 9100, 9220, 9500

  • WRT150N Connection Issues

I have purchased the WRT150N router. It is installed fine and seems to work great with my Windows laptop but there are severe connectivity issues with my Mac Powerbook G4. Both of these laptops have wireless G notebook cards. Sometimes the Mac will connect but the majority of the time it says there is an error connecting to it. It does not work at all with security. When it does connect, it will work a few minutes, then it will say the signal is very weak (even though I am only 10 feet from the router) and will stop transmitting and eventually disconnect. The internet works fine with an ethernet cable from one of the routers ports. Anybody know of any solutions to this? I am soon purchasing a new hp with a built in wireless N card so I hope that works, but will still be using the Mac, so I need some help.

Hi Tyler sorry fr such a late reply to this, I have the same router and had the same problem. Now the more you play with these routers the more they mess about. I had this router sitting in my cupboard for 1 year and a half as I gave up hope fixing it. 2 things to keep in mind, 1 Make sure you have the Version 1.53.1 2 Just reset it to factory settings and it should do the work. Just secure the network. Hope this helps

  • HP Officejet 6700 Premium: eprint works; connection with printer cable doesn't

Just bought a new Officejet 6700 Premium. I had the same model before. Setup worked well and eprint functions. But with the last Officejet I had, I could also connect it with a printer cable and then I could print directly without having to send an email. I find this useful, because there is not so much waste of paper and ink on pages I don't need (sometimes I only want to print one page  from a series of several pages or I want to print something directly from the internet). With the new model I have connected the printer and my computer with the printer cable, but I cannot print with the option of, for example, "print this page", but always have to make a pdf and then attach this to an email and send it to hpeprint. Can someone tell me what I have to do in order to be able to print directly  with the printer cable? Thank you in advance!

    Welcome to the forums, @Sunshine888
I read your post about how you can ePrint successfully, however you cannot print from your computer. I would like to help you with this! To find the best troubleshooting steps for you, I would need to know which operating system you are running on your computer and also let me know how you wish to connect your printer to your computer (USB, Ethernet or wireless).

  • Officejet 6700 scn to email connection problem

this seems to be a regular problem. I have tried all suggested solutions that I found, but nothing worked. In some answers the support person said that she was sending a private email that seemed to solve the problem. Can you tell me waht I can do to resolve this. My printer is connected, ePrint works, juts the app fails to connect to the Webservice. I tried to disable and re-enable the webservice - didn't help.
    Thanks
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I gather that you are getting a connection error message when trying to use the scan to email feature of your Officejet 6700 printer.
There are several steps I would like you to try please.
    Please turn off your printer.
Please turn off your router.  If your router doesn’t have an on/off switch, please unplug the power cord from the router.
After waiting a full 60 seconds please turn on your router (or plug it back in).
After the router has completed its startup routine please turn on your printer.
After the printer has completed its startup routine, please test the scan to email feature.  If it works there no need to continue with any further trouble shooting steps.
Please set a manual IP address and manual DNS servers for the printer. I have included a link to another post with the steps, including screen shots on how to do this.   Don’t worry that the screen shots show an Officejet 8600 printer, the steps are the same.
Please test the scan to email feature.  If it works there is no need to continue with any further trouble shooting steps.
Please call HP’s Cloud Services at 1-855-785-2777 if you live in the USA/Canada region. If you live outside the USA/Canada region please click here to find the Technical Support number for your country/region.
    Thank you.

  • Officejet 6700 error while searching for updates: 'Printer could not connect to server'

I recently purchase the Officejet 6700 Premium. While setting the printer up, I received the error 'The printer could not connect to the server.' I first received this while the printer was searching for updates. I later received the same error while trying to set up ePrint from my computer.
The printer is connected through my wireless router. All other print services function normally. It is connected to the network, and I have printed several times over the wireless network.
Though I don't think it matters, since the on-board print set-up gave me the error, I run Windows 7 64-bit on my computer.
    Thanks for any help!

What is the IP address of the printer?  What is the make and model of the router that you use in the wireless set up? Is the router firmware up to date?
I would first try power cycling the router and the printer. Turn off/unplug the router and then power down the printer. Then plug the router back in and wait for it to be fully up and functioning before turning the printer back on.  After you have both pieces of equipment back on and functioning attempt to connect to web services again.
If still having problems I would attempt to set a static DNS on the printer through the embedded web server (EWS) by entering the printer's IP address into the address bar of  a browser on a computer.
Once that computer displays that page click on the Network tab.
Then look in the column to the left and find the Wireless section
    Click on IPv4
Then on that page look at the 2nd section that is labeled DNS Address configuration
Change the radio button to the manual option
Then for the manual preferred fill it out and make sure it reads 8.8.8.8
Secondary should be set to 8.8.4.4
    Then hit Apply
Read the next screen carefully. That message with the "OK" button below it  is one that states to click that button to undo the changes you  just made.  Just navigate away from that page by clicking on another tab.
Then reattempt to connect to web services.

We have a officejet 6700 in our office.
We're using Macbook Pros so I can say the problem is with IOSX
I tried setting the printer from settings screen and by downloading the related software from hp website.
However, everyday we are having a connection problem with our printer. We always get 'Printer not found' error.
I need to re-install the printer manually by IP adress (it changes every time we turn it of)
I am not sure if I am clear with my problem but it is becoming more and more boring day by day please find me a way to solve this issue.
    Thanks,

  • HP officejet 6700 scanner issue

officejet 6700 scanning to Macbook pro - When scanning pictures they are showing black and white need them to be color.  How do I correct this?

    Hi mcaacgel,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I understand that when scanning using your Officejet 6700 to your MacBook Pro that the scans are in black and white and not in color.
To better assist you, would you please provide additional information:
How is the printer connected (USB cable, ethernet, or wireless)?
What version of Mac OS X are you using on your MacBook Pro? whatsmyos.com
What software are you using to scan (HP Scan, Image Capture, or Apple Scan, etc)?
Is the printer plugged directly into a wall outlet?
Are you able to make a color photocopy?

  • HP Officejet 6700 premium no longer connecting to the computer

My HP officejet 6700 will no longer communicate with my dell (windows vista) lap top. Both are connected to the internet and have good wireless signals. I recently printed from this computer to this printer wirlessly and nothing has been altered, downloaded, ect since that last print job. The lack of connection between the two devices is new.
Any help or insight would be much appricaited.
Also, I've checked for updates and I had to use the disk to instal the software ( for whatever reason, the internet download would not work).

  • HP Officejet 6700 Premium Not connected for eprint

    Good evening,
I bought a officejet 6700 Premium and I installed it 10 days ago, The printers worked properly for a couple of days.
Now, if I log on in ePrintcentre, a message says that the printer is not connected.
If I launch a print using the wireless net (e.g using my IPHONE while I'm at home and using my home wireless) it works.
But if I launch a print @ my HPe address the printer doesn't work and remains in pending message (on eprint centre) for a while and then become "failed".
Is there something to set in the printer panel?
    Thank you very much

    Hi Antonio,
I would check if the printer has the latest firmware. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02919168&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=e...
Then, turn the printer off for about 20 seconds, then power it on again. When it's back at the home screen, print an info sheet to check your eprint connection.  Front panel of printer>eprint icon>print info
This next step will require you to delete your failed print jobs:  (steps from http://www8.hp.com/ca/en/support-topics/mobile-printing/mobile-print-help-iphone-ipad.html)
Click the tab at the top of the page with the name of your printer.
In the Recent Print Jobs section, click View Job History.
Click Cancel next to any print jobs that you want to clear from the queue.   (Try printing again)

  • No connection found on Officejet 6700 all in one printer H711n

I have reinstalled the printer.  The wireless blue light is on.  My Mac 10.8.5 sees the printer.  The Printer 'sees' the Mac.  I cannot print as 'no connection found'.  I hooked up the USBA to the printer/USB to the Mac and I can print, but cannot scan. It looks like it is scanning, but never comes to the Mac.  I have been told that my wireless card is broken and I need to buy a new printer.  Mine is less than 2 years old, so there must be some solution.  Anyone out there that can suggest anything else?

    Hi Rabbit_Hutch,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having a connection issue when attempting to print from you Mac.
I do have a few suggestions we can try in the attempt to troubleshoot this issue.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Just so you know, having the printer power cable connected to a bar/strip can hinder the performance of several componants with in the printer such as the Ink Delivery system, Wireless communication and the print quality and speed.
Please remove the usb cable from the printer and from tha Mac and leave it disconnected until further notice.
The first link that I am going to give you will give detailed instructions on How to reset the printing system.  Once the first step is completed, please click on the next link to Repair disk permissions.
If you have any anti virus protection running, please disable it so that we do not have any conflicts for a re install.
This following link is for the HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver - Mac OS X 10.6, OS X 10.7, OS X 10.8.  Once you have this file downloaded, please follow the steps for the installation. You will see prompts for connection options.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
    Thanks for your time.
