    3. Are the loads full upload or delta enabled.
    4. For which areas of SAP are the loads done. Do they use Business Conetent or Generic Extractors.
    5. How do they do "data validation" after each load.
    6. What are the source systems from which data is loaded.
    7. what are the kind of reports that are used - Bex or Web.
    8. What are the typical(most common) errors faced while doing the dataload.
    9. Any plans for upgrade?

    The activities in a typical Production Support would be as follows:
    1. Data Loading - could be using process chains or manual loads.
    2. Resolving urgent user issues - helpline activities
    3. Modifying BW reports as per the need of the user.
    4. Creating aggregates in Prod system
    5. Regression testing when version/patch upgrade is done.
    6. Creating adhoc hierarchies.

  • SAP BW support Project error in implementation

    Dear Friends,
    My company got a support project in Business warehouse Intelligence, with a retail chain manufacturing and selling fashion wear across India through its chain of stores & other resellers.
    This SAP BW was implemented by a SAP partner and no documentation is available and I find following issues to be solved apart from other issue that I have solved:
    1. The datatargets are activated some in 3.5x and some in 7.0 i.e. some having infosource u2014> datasource u2014> transfer rules u2014> update rules u2014> infopackage while others are having transformation u2013> DTP u2014> Infopackage,
    my question is should I convert all datatargets in 7.0? If yes what are the benefits? And how?
    2. For every datasource there are quite a few infopackageu2019s created for loading data.
    Should I delete the unnecessary infopackages?
    3. For infocube 0FIAP_C02 the data is supplied by ODS 0FIAP_O02, the data is loaded correctly but in case 0Creditors which references 0Vendor the master data is available in the system but is not displayed in the infocube and in the query.
    How do I sort this issue?
    4. Quite a few Process Chains is created and active, but as mentioned above the data extraction is happening through a few infopackages.
    Should I deactivate the process chains and carry out data extraction manually till the system is stable and then activate the same after checking the dataflow?
    5. And lastly to create/ change/ view queries though we are having latest patch for SAP GUI 710 we are not able to carry out above activities.
    How do we solve this?

    1. It's up to you to use 3.x or 7.x flow If you have enough resources/time you can Migrate them to 7.x Flow
    Ofcourse you will have advantages over 3.x like you will only transformations which replaced Transfer rules and updates rules as well and easier to manage and you will DTP  -> Error stack / Debugging / Rich delta functionality
    2. Normally we will have Auto Infopackage for Delta and also one for Manul infopackage(incase for 'Repair full') .. Check all the IP's If there any filters in each package to upload data to targets .. If you feel they are unnecessary then you delete them or keep them they doesn't impact
    3.You don't need to load 0CREDITOR if it's being referenced by 0VENDOR since MD is shared for reference objects
    4. Try to understand the unused PC's and their purpose sometimes we will have PC's for delta and also for Full loads to avoid manual interaction, and we will have pc\s for full loads as well .. If there are many pointing to the same target anyalze and delete them .. you can remove them from schedule (if they are scheduled) and later you can schedule as per your needs
    5. Check If you have enough authorizations / check SU53 - If you are missing any authorization objects and contact basis team to get access.

    Hi Sivaram,
    1. As a DP functional consultant you need to resolve all the incidents raised in APO DP module( Forecasting, lifecycle planning, master data in APO DP, Planning books, macros , release to APO SNP or R/3 or other systems, CVC maintenance etc) which will also include BW part of  SCM -APO related to DP, like data extraction and back up into and from infocubes. You will also support all the interfaces realted to APO DP , for the APO related part of the interface.
    You need to reoslve these incidents in the time frames defined by SLAs for the support project.
    You will have to also carry out problem management of some of the critical incidents so that incidents do not re-occur.
    Further you will have to support Release  /Change managment support( if it is part of your contract of Support project).
    This willl involve testing changes in quality system, before these are moved to production system.
    2 I found 2 crtical issues in APO DP support as below:
    2.1  Sales history extraction  data interafces from BW system used to have problems : technical problems of interface / jobs in BW running late, functional problems: sales history extract in BW not correct because various reasons 
      This used to lead to delayed job runs in APO and finally delayed forecasting and ptehr DP processes .
    By proactive monitoring by BW team and taking appropriate actions for master data issues, this issue occurance frequency was reduced , but not completely eliminated.
    2.2 Another major issue was related to back up process of APO DP planning data into infocubes. Finally by splitting the jobs as per daily, weekly and monthly bakc up procedure , we were able to resolve the issue.

    Demand Planners role in Implementation Project:
    - Business process related requirement provide to the implementation team
    - Test scenario explanation
    - Unit testing as per the Demand Planner's view
    - Report requirements provide to implementation team.
    You will work as a Business expert or as a Core team member in the Implementation Project. Your role will be very crucial .. you will Drive the project as per the business processes of Demand planning.
    Support Project :
    If you are working as a Demand planner and doing day to day Demand planning work then in case any issues come you will send it to support team for correction.
    You may be from Business Team work as a single point of contact from Business.
    You will gather the requirement for reports/ any new devlopment and for implementation send it to support team.
    In the support project you will require to see continous process improvement

  • Project processing : Version of Enhancement packages

    Hello,
    I want to know which enhancement package should be installed to get the 'project processing' objects. The issue is EhP2 needs a higher NW stack and hence presents a hurdle. Instead if the PP objects are available with EhP1, which has a lower NW-support pack requirement, there would be lesser worries.

    Below are the few main points that you need to do.
    Knowledge Transition  This should include the complete understanding of client landscape,get the required documentation for exact functional area.
    Reverse Knowledge Transition It is always a very good practice that there should be a reverse KT from your side to Com1.This will make sure that what ever you have understood from them is correct, and in case of any gaps it can be filled.
    SLA Agreement  Get a complete picture that what are the SLA's for the support and what is the criteria for a case to become a High Sev incident (SEV1,SEV2)..
    No of system supported  Sometimes there is a confusion that whether only production is supported or other environments are also supported, make this clear there can be more environments like Dev, Quality, Sandpit, mirror etc.
    Critical Business User List along with Functional Area  This always ensures that support for critical business users and their new requirements are being properly addressed.
    Object List  Get a list of all the objects in system , for support list of process chains with its frequency will be very helpful.
    Daily Process chains
    Weekly Process Chains
    Monthly Process Chains
    Yearly Process Chains
    Naming Convention Details Get the proper naming convention that is being used for client , this will help you once any enhancement needs to be done by your company.
    Regular Maintainance Activities Get a complete understanding of regular maintainance activities like data deletion, BW Accelerator Housekeeping etc,this has a major role for any support.
    Data Retention Period  Get the understating for data retention period for the BW objects thais will help in future in system housekeeping.
    Last but not the least you need to get the other general info like number of users, key query list, regression testing pack for projects,known issue resolution along with there documentation, being very close to year end is there any specific year end activity etc.

    It may vary in different projects.
    I can just give you a couple of general roles in Support project
    Data Load Monitoring:
    1.Carried out data load on a daily, weekly and monthly basis using Process chains from both SAP Source systems as well as Non-SAP Source systems such as Informatica.
    2.Resolving Data load error such as Invalid characters, Time period conversion, Currency conversion, Duplicate records, etc
    3.Ensuring the availability of the updated data in the datatarget on time.
    4.Spooling out data through Infospoke from SAP BW to systems like Trillium, Ariba (Reporting Tool)
    Ticket Resolution:
    1.Process chain modification: Working on “Optimizing Process chain” by creating new process chain considering the load dependencies.
    2.Reloading of R/3 data from different clusters – Reconciliation issues
    3.Enhancements as per Business requirement.
    Additional responsibilities:
    •Preparing design documents from the Business Requirement docs and identified the relevant data targets for satisfying the customer requirements.
    •Creation of Operational manual: BW Run & Maintain Support.
    •Process Chain Detail Documentation (Sequencing & Dependency within Local Chains).

    In Production Suport Generally most of the project they will work on monitoring area(Ex Process chains and data loads) for their loads(R3/ NON SAP to Data Taggets (BW)) and depending up the project to project it varies because some of them using the PC's and Some of them using Event Chains. So its Depends up on the Project to project varies.
    In Support Project , we will use to check the loads by using RSMO for Monitoring the loads and we will rectify the errors in that by using step by step analysis.
    and wee need to monitor the loads in Procss chains Daily/Weekly/Monthly...
    if any of the laod failures we need to track why the laod  has failured
    RSAMO--> Details Tab
    St22-- Short Dump
    SM21-- log entries and RFC entries
    pl's take a little time to assign points

    Sorry for a bit delayed response. I am sharing my experience for the roles and responsibilities of team lead in a support project.
    Team Lead mainly performs the following activities.
    Status Reporting: As per the project guidelines he may provide status reporting to both the client and the internal stakeholder of his own organisation.
    (ii)Process Owner Communication / Liaison: he may be required to communicate with the business process owners.
    (iii) Work Assignment: He will be responsible for assigning the work(which is actually the service request or tickets) to the team members and also will continuoulsy monitor their timely closure.
    (iv)Quality Control / Approvals: He will also be responsible for the overall quality of deliverables and will provide approvals if necessary.
    Apart from these he will be responsible for managing the other soft issues like the training and development needs of his team members, their appraisal etc and will plan the resource deployment strategy for future.

    i want information about  Support bussiness process in sd?

    What the job responsibilites would be for the Support Consultant? If the Consultant is working in Offshore Support, How the business interaction would be there between the Consultant and Customer? How the Customer Queries were handled successfully sitting from his location.
    Job responsibility of a Support consultants is to handle routine tickets, which can be incident (routine problems), change tickets (need configuration change, therefore a change request), normally a support consultant can only advice a change but can't do it , because there is always a change advisory board on client end to evaluate and implement the adviced change.
    Business intercation between users and customer can be through mail box utilities, outlook, even telecons and some companies also allow chat.
    Usually the customer provides with the number of the document and client/company code and other necessary info. about the process which is facing problem, the consultant tracks the project by logging in to development server and search out for causes, the solution is then sent to user, maybe with snapshot if required.
    For those people who asks for for tickets:
    1. Tickets are normally raised by end user and carry a priority.
    2. Those who are asking SAP gurus to tell them about tickets, pls note that most of the problems except for the basic questions discussed in this group are the tickets themselves, tickets are nothing but the routine incidents the SAP consultants get, if you regularly read the mails in the group you will soon start recognizing tickets.
    And the most important thing "Believe in yourself and God, as there is always somebody there to help you".

    It depends on various factors:
    1. Your role in the project.
    2. Has any of other resources of your company currently working or the project is new to your company.
    3. What are all the modules/Technologies that you would be supporting. etc...
    Get knowledge transfer from existing resources, if there are any.
    Go through their Business Process.
    Get familiar with the tool that they are using for handling Tickets.
    Go through Service Level Agreement. (Time frames for different type of tickets)
    Legacy system's if they are using any.
    Custom programs/layouts/interfaces/tables etc.

    1) We have to do Monitoring of Processchains
    2)Scheduling the Loads
    3)If there is any requirement of new Process Chain we have to Create the processchain
    Transaction Codes Mainly we use :
    SM37 --To know the status of backround job.
    SM12--To unlock the objects
    RSMO--To see how many Infopackages are running
    SM50--To see work process
    SM64--To trigger the event.
