Hi,
Please check if you start BITS and Windows update service from Services.
Type services.msc in Run, press Enter, and then find the two services: BITS and Windows update service. Right click on the service, select Properties, set Startup type as Automatic.
If these services are working well, please attempt to update Windows update agent.

  • Unable to Resolve Windows Update Issue in Windows 8.1

    Hello,
I recently, as far back as 1 month ago, began experiencing issues with the update service under the Windows 8.1 OS platform.
I found that I was having to repeatedly run the Windows Update Troubleshooting Tool. This appeared to fix the issue with each run of the tool, but eventually I'd have the same problem receiving updates again. My problem is as follows:
    1. Windows Update service hangs during register analysis.
    2. Unable to reset (stop or restart) wuauserv.
    3. Unable to reset (stop or restart) Cryptserv.
    4. Unable to reset (stop or restart) BITS.
    5. Unit recently, was unable to connect to internet from Desktop GUI, but was able to connect using Metro GUI.
I'm not sure is there was a recent update that caused this issue, but I can no longer download updates for my system, nor can I successfully run the Windows Update Fixit tool.

    Hi,
    Let's confirm these situations:
Now your desktop Internet Explorer can't connect Internet.
You receiving the same updates again and again.
If I am right, please check that update's installation status from update history.
Then refer to this article to troubleshoot:

  • 2012 R2 Essentials Windows Update error 80072EE2 and Dism errors 0x800f0906 and 0x800f081f

Since 11/2014 our R2 Essentials server on ESXI has been unable to run Windows Update, returning error 80072EE2. I ran the Windows Update troubleshooter which claimed it fixed something, but Windows Update returned the exact same error again. There are no
proxies or Internet access problems. I have ensured no firewall is blocking Windows Update URLs. So I tried the
sfc /scannow command which reports a file that cannot be repaired:
    2015-01-12 20:56:41, Info CSI 00000801 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:36{18}]"Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB" of prncacla.inf, Version = 6.3.9600.16384, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type = [l:24{12}]"driverUpdate", TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch
For this error others suggested running dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth which on my server tells me "The component store is repairable." So next I run
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth which instantly returns the same result that it is repairable. Next I run
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth thinking this will fix it, but it returns this error: "Error 0x800f0906 source files could not be downloaded".
Articles suggest I use a different source, so I mount the R2 Essentials DVD used to install this server to drive letter Z: and use this command:
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:Z:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess
This results in the error "Error 0x800f081f source files could not be found" and so I copy the sources\sxs folder locally to C: and re-run the last command pointing to this new location. I get the same error.
I have run chkdsk and I have tried rebooting between each of the above commands, which did not work. I have run all these commands as Administrator.
Does anyone know what I do next? I see references to these errors with several users attempting to install .NET framework but those solutions do not apply to my situation.
As a next step I considered uninstalling the last successfully installed Windows update (KB3011780) on this machine in case it broke something. Thoughts?

    Hi,
Please refer to following KB and reset Windows Update components, then check if can help you to solve this issue.
How do I reset Windows Update components?
In addition, did you check relevant log files (such as: DISM.log, CBS.log or others) whether find more clues?
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • "Unable to load data" error after Windows update

    Hi all,
I've been maintaining a LightSwitch desktop app for a couple of years now.  The app runs on a server and several client machines access it.  Sometime in the last few months, any client that has Windows Update enabled has failed to load data.  Instead
it shows red crosses where the data should be and the tooltip, "Unable to load data. Please check your connection and try loading again."
Other clients that don't have updates enabled are fine.  Has anyone else run into this issue?  Does anyone know how to resolve it?
    Thanks,

    Hi Angie,
Thanks for your reply.  I've enabled diagnostics as described.  Here's what I find.
When I load my LightSwitch screen, I get the following entry highlighted red in Fiddler:

  • Unable to install windows 7 home premium updates error code 643 (KB 954430, KB973688 & KB2538243)

Unable to install windows 7 home premium updates error code 643 (KB 954430, KB973688 & KB2538243) - Please help me!!
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on a Lenovo ThinkPad E530. This laptop is only brands new.
KB954430, KB973688 & KB2538243 - These three updates keep giving me problems. In Windows Update, under "view update history" these keep showing up as failed. I also get the error, "Code 643".
At the end of the installation it tells me three updates are failed to be installed and when I shut down to try to update, Windows always configures up to ~15%, then fails, and reverts changes, then prompts me to install updates the next time I turn my computer on. Each time, I have to re-install every update that I had installed prior to shutting down.
I went through Trouble shooter - "Fix it" numerous times, Repaired Net framework profile and also followed few instructions I found from the net such as running "Reset Register Windows update Components" but nothing works so far.
I even tried manually installing KB954430 but it told me "An error occurred during the installation of assembly component. 7B30B69B-OE6C-B7EO-A06B-D6B9ABF34537  HR RESULT: 0 x 80070BC9" and the installation bar seems to stop at "Publishing Product information", then rolls back the installation.
If you need more details, please tell me & Thanks in advance

  • Unable to scan and install windows updates on Win 2008 R2 server

I've encountered some of my win 2008 servers are unable to scan and receive windows updates from SCCM 2012. Browse through the logs and found some error code related to
0x80244023. Excerpt from the WindowsUpdate and WUAHandler is as below. Searched the net and found some workaround which is to rename the registry key
WinHTTPSettings to WinHTTPSettingsx (by adding x at the end of the string)
    under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> Internet Settings -> Connections.
I've did just that on the effected servers and after running again the Software Update Scan Cycle action, it is now able to scan and install the updates. My questions is, based on you guys experience, is there any repercussion (apart from enable to install
software updates) that I could encounter in changing the registry key value WinHTTPSettings?

    Hi
If SCCM is setup correctly and your boundaries are correct then once you deploy updates the agents will pick them up.
Also make sure you SUP role has the FQDN set. Lastly if you are using port 8530 make sure it is open.
Hope this helps. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

  • Unable to switch from Windows Update to Microsoft Update

On a new Windows 7 64 bit computer I am unable to access Microsoft updates. Windows update works fine, but when I click the link to get updates for other Microsoft Products it will only take me to the screen that tells me to use the start menu to check for
updates. I have also tried other links to Microsoft Update from other Microsoft webpages and end up with the same result.
I have Office 2013 Standard installed and activated, and from previous installation experience know that I should be able to access numerous updates through this method.
To verify that I am able to install updates for Office I manually downloaded and installed one Office 2013 update through the Microsoft download site.
How do I get this machine to switch to Microsoft Update?

    Hi,
According to your description, I think you may had a misunderstand between these two updates installation. Here is a paragraph which talking about Use Windows Update to Check for Updates to other Microsoft Products:
By default, Windows Update can download and install updates for Windows 7 and features that are part of the operating system (such as Internet Explorer). You can also merge the functionality of Microsoft Update—a service for managing updates to Microsoft
Office and several other Microsoft products—into Windows Update so that you no longer need to visit Office Online to get updates.
If you do not already have Windows Update integrated with Microsoft Update, you will see the message “Get updates for other Microsoft products” on the Windows Update home page. To enable checking for other products, click the Find Out More option shown beside
this message. This will take you to the Microsoft Update site for some quick installation steps. You only need to do this once. Thereafter, the Windows Update home page will indicate that you receive updates “For Windows and other products from Microsoft Update.”

  • T430s unable to restart after Windows Update

I'll start with the short version. I just got my ThinkPad T430s, so there were a lot of Windows Updates to install. After one batch, I am no longer able to restart the machine. When I click Shut Down, Restart or Log Out, the desktop disappears, but instead of bringing up the "Shutting Down..." screen, it just shows the desktop background indefinitely until I power down by holding the power button. I have been unable to figure out what is causing this, how to fix it, or which Windows Update was the cause.
    Longer version:
I upgraded my machine from Windows 7 Home to Pro. After a series of Updates the problem started. I tried a lot of things, then decided to try reinstalling Windows. Again, it happened after a large chunk of Windows Updates. I have tried a million things. System Restore points don't fix it. "Clean Boot" doesn't fix it. Uninstalling Windows Updates doesn't fix it. Eventually I tried to use the Lenovo recovery CD, but it turns out the recovery partition only contains one of the 4 CDs you use. You don't find this out until you get an error that says "You have inserted the wrong disk" which occurs AFTER the recovery software has wiped all your partitions. So now my recovery partition is gone as well. My current plan is to install Windows fresh to hold me over until Lenovo can ship me the full set of recovery CDs, but if anyone has any ideas for what might be causing this no restart problem, I would appreciate it.

kb2647753 seems to be the problem child.

  • Unable to install security updates via WSUS on Windows 2008 client servers

When I try install to install updates on Windows 2008 client servers I get the error : Code 80244019  Windows Update encountered an unknown error
After running the WSUS Client Diagnostic Tool I get the result : GetFileVersion(szEngineDir,&susVersion) failed with hr=0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified.
On a Windows 2003 server the WSUS Client Diagnostic Tool shows no error message. So I guess the problem seems to be specificly related to Windows 2008 servers.
The client server has been integrated into a WSUS console version 3.2.7600.226 runnning on a Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2.
Thanks in advance for the help in resolving this issue.

When I try install to install updates on Windows 2008 client servers I get the error : Code 80244019  Windows Update encountered an unknown error
The 0x80244019 error is an HTTP 404 error and when encountered trying to "install updates", which really occurs when trying to
download the update files so that the updates can be installed, is almost always a function of the desired file having been manually deleted from the WSUS server. The file that should be there for the needed update, isn't, but it used to be.
If all of the clients are getting this error on all updates, then that's a function of the content store on the WSUS server being missing, in the wrong place, or configured with the wrong ACLs.
After running the WSUS Client Diagnostic Tool I get the result : GetFileVersion(szEngineDir,&susVersion) failed with hr=0x80070002
This result is inconclusive, and not really relevant. The CDT is 32-bit only and can't be used on 64-bit systems. Plus, we already know the client is talking to the WSUS server -- you've reported the error code -- so the Client Diagnostic Tool will
tell us nothing of use at this point (even if it did work on 64-bit systems).
On a Windows 2003 server the WSUS Client Diagnostic Tool shows no error message.
Cool. It works on a 32-bit system.
So I guess the problem seems to be specificly related to Windows 2008 servers.
No... BUT... allow me to make an example of this for just a moment, and forgive me for that.
This is a great example of arriving at the wrong conclusion, caused by not considering ALL of the differences, as well as the scope and capability of the diagnostics performed. The error is not because one is '2003' and the other '2008; the error is because
one is 'x86' and the other is (obviously) 'x64'. And, in either case, diagnosing the client was wasted effort because the client is already working. (It got a real HTTP error message from the WSUS server.)
Now, we need to get some real diagnostic information to find out why you're getting this error code. :-)
Please post the actual entries from the WindowsUpdate.log where this error code appears, plus a hundred lines prior, and let's get some context around the error code, and the exact update that's involved in this issue.

  • Unable to connect to Office Wireless Network (802.1x) after Windows Update

Hi, my notebooks are on Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit. We have only recently started Windows Updates.
We are on a Wireless network 802.1x.
In the past, we are able to do the following steps :
    1. Open the "connections are available" window by clicking on the wireless icon (signal bars with yellow sun)
    2. Right click on the desired network and choose properties
    3. Change settings (eg. MEAP or use local Windows credentials etc)
    4. Click connect to connect
Now, from the "connections are available" window, when we right click on the desired Network, only "connect" is shown.
In this case, I cannot connect to the network as the settings are wrong, if I cannot connect to the network how do I change the settings ?
    Please kindly advise

    Hi,
    I agree with britishdhez.
In addition, I would like to confirm which update caused this issue. Is it a driver update? I suggest installing driver update from the manufacturer's website.
You can also reinstall the wireless driver:
    a. Click Start, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and press Enter.
    b. Expand "Network adaptor".
    c. Right click on your network card and then click Uninstall
    d. Remove the driver software at the same time.
After that, restart the computer and reinstall the network card driver.
Meanwhile, you may run the Network troubleshooter to see if it can help diagnose and solve your problem:
Using the Network troubleshooter in Windows 7

Also, please remove the wireless network profile for a test.
    Delete a profile
    At the command prompt ( Win+ R-->CMD ), type:
    netsh wlan delete profile name="ProfileName"

  • Satellite L850-1HP unable to configure downloaded Windows Update files

My laptop had issues from day one which were first the CD-ROM not opening, then the webcam and microphone turning off forever and not being able to be turned on again ever, and last but not least, this summer, my laptop would not connect to any WIFI network at all, it wouldn't even find one.
I went to the place where I bought it for support, they sent it for repairs, a week later, I get it back, it's been restored back to factory settings, everything seemed fine, CD ROM functional.. webcam and microphone too.
So I thought I'd check around and start tyding things up to my liking, then I realise that I need to download some updates from Windows Update, so I do, about 100+ updates needed, I start downloading them, but they don't download up until the 20th minute that it's stuck at 0%, which seemed shifty to me, because then it just jumped up to like 10% and progressed forward.
After downloading the updates, or so it said that it had, I restart the laptop in order to get them working and configured properly.
It didn't. After I clicked restart, it started shutting down, saying that it's configuring and at about 20-30% it rebooted, then it loaded up the same screen saying that it's configuring updates, then it says it failed and says that it's restoring data back to normal, which it never freaking does.
After about two hours of waiting for it to do anything at all, I reboot the PC, same stuff.
Reboot again but this time I restore things to factory settings once more, takes me about 1hr again with a complete wipe of data (of course the OS stays and toshiba apps too), set everything up, name and stuff, accept terms and conditions, blah blah, OS starts up, I check everything and restart.
After the restart, I decide to not configure anything until I've downloaded all the windows updates, so I do just that, BUT, I get the same error again, shifty-slow download of updates, restart and get the same message that it cannot configure updates, and the forever-long wait for the laptop to "restore" data back to normal, which it hasn't done, again.
I'm completely clueless as to what I should do, I've restored factory settings once more but this time I'll just wait for some feedback or try to do whatever I find on these forums that is useful.
    Please help.

    Hi
The Satellite L850-1HP was preinstalled with Win 8 64bit.
Do you have problems installing the Win 8 updates?
Usually you will get an error message if an update has failed.
Could you post this error message?
