VIC2-2FXS problems

Hi,
we have ISR 2801 router with 2xVIC2-2BRI-NT/TE, 1xVIC2-2FXS and PVDM2-8, IOS ver.c2801-spservicesk9-mz.124-9.T7.bin. We can see ISDN BRI ports but cannot see FXS ports.
Any help?
here some outputs from router:

I found out a solution. The problem is generated by insufficient DSP resources (PVDM2-8, I need more...).I had rearranged the position of the card and of course I've lost one ISDN BRI port. The result is as follow:

I hope that this will help anyone with this situation.

  • ISR 2811 with VIC2-2FXS

    hi,
We have deployed cisco 2811 router in our network and had installed vic2-2fxs card in one of the HWIC slot.We need to configure fxs card for voip to make a call to branch office and have the following ios c2800nm-ipvoicek9-mz.124-17.bin .The problem we are facing is the router detect vic card under show version command but when show running-config command been given it doesn't display voice-port information to configure the same.We have attached the show tech-support o/p.any suggestion welcomed.

    Hi Bhavesh,
It Looks like you do not have any DSP resources. You will need something like a PVDM2-8 card on the motherboard to provide DSP resources to the FXS card. Without DSP resources you cannot configure the FXS :)
    Hope this helps!

  • Vic2 - 2FXS Card in 2801 and modem / fax usage

    Hi,
    I have a Cisco 2801 running c2801-advipservicesk9-mz.124-9.T.bin
    It has 2 VIC2-2BRI-NT/TE cards, 1 VIC2-2FXS. And a PVDM2-8 and a PVDM2-16 as DSP's.
I am trying to get a modem working on a FXS port, but one way or the other it's just not comming together.
I do have a propper PSTN line when I use an analogue phone, but when I try to hook up a modem nothing or sometimes a crappy 2k4 connection.
What am I missing here, I thought by putting in enough DSP's in the router and a FXS card and BRI cards this should work.
Nothing fancy configured on the voice ports (first 4 are BRI last 2 FXS)

  • VIC2-2FXS at Cisco 2811 ISR, is NM-HDV2 needed?

    Hello,
I have a Cisco 2811 router that is configured as CUCME and working OK. So I need to connect a fax machine so I decided to take FXS card, but I don't know if I need to find NM-HDV2 to get VIC2-2FXS working on 2811, or it works at any of HWIC slots... I have FXO (VIC2-4FXO) working w/o any network module (installed at HWIC slot), so do I need such for FXS?
P.S.: I have PVDM2-8 installed in the router, will it be enough?
    Thank you.

    The NM is not needed.
The PVDM that you have is enough.

  • VIC2-2BRI problem

    Hi,
I need help regarding problem i'm having with ISDN BRI cards.
The problem is from time to time L1 link goes down between PBX and Cisco 2801 with VIC2-2BRI cards. Problem is not related to a specific type of PBX or just one PBX, but this happens very frequently now, on multiple sites.
I've managed to find several workaround solutions, but they are far from final.
    1. If i'm using new cards (BRI) and setting a new site, I can't get the cards to go up, that is OK light won't come up, unless I connect straight cable in BRI card, and on the other side connect (short circuit) pins 3,4 and 5,6, make a loop. And here is the "tricky" part, if I don't do shut, no shut cards won't come up, or reload the router and connect cable to card before interfaces come up.
    2. On existing sites link just goes down, all by itself, in that case all that helps is to put the cards in another slot, and use the above method. Cables stay the same, cards and router also, IOS also.
I really don't see the problem here!
Has anyone had any similar experiences?
    Thanks
    Regards,
    Damir

    Hi,
Unfortunately, I don't see the actual transition, it would help me also.
This is only thing i've found in logs.
    Nov 18 10:49:47: ISDN BR0/2/0 **ERROR**: handle_l2d_srq_mail: Layer 1 inactive
    Nov 18 10:49:50: ISDN BR0/2/0 Q931: L3_ShutDown: Shutting down ISDN Layer 3
Nov 18 10:49:51.042 CET: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface BRI0/2/0, changed state to down
But from this I can't see that much...
Thing is this happens more when you are using new cards, or existing somewhere else.
Normal cards light up OK when they are going through POST, it tells you that the card is recognized and working. B1 and B2 channels (lights) don't light of course.
More and more I think this a bug...
P.S. sorry I can't provide more errors, but this is only thing that happens, that's way it's strange!

    Damir

  • 1760 and VIC2 2FXS

What IOS will I need to configure analogue voice ports on a 1760 router? I've tried following the IOS selector but most of the releases it suggests are deferred.

According to the following link, the VIC-2FXS card is supported in all versions of IOS for the 1760 with a voice feature set.

  • ATA vs VG202 vs VIC3-2FXS-E/DID & Wireless

What is best solution moving forward?
Fax server probably two years out.
    Background:
    I have 34 locations
30 locations have 2 analog devices
    4 Operations have 26, 14, 15, 10 analog devices
Currently we use ATA 188 and 186 and one VIC2-2FXS
We Have intermittent problems receiving faxes from Fax servers or other customers in general.

The VG20x are nice because you can use them as a full blown router (VPN, IGP, etc).
I think you'll have more cost per port using a VIC3 rather than VG204. Their capabilities will be equal, as opposed to when the ATAs were in use.
The ATAs are on their way out, and I think you'll find the VG20x to be an easier product to use and it will work better with faxes/modems. The ATAs don't have great fax/modem support where the VG20x will have T38 support and modem support.
For the locations with 15+ devices it may be worth looking into the VG224 as well, depending on usage.

  • VIC3-2FXS/DID VS VIC3-2FXS-E/DID

    hi all,
we'll upgrade our router from 2811 to 2911.
the current 2811 uses VIC2-2FXS but saw on cisco's website that we need a VIC3 instead.
i saw there's two versions of this card, the other has an 'E'.
what's the difference between the two? can i just get a VIC3-2FXS/DID?

    Hi John,
The difference is explained in the following link
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/interfaces-modules/ip-communications-voice-fax-network-modules/product_data_sheet0900aecd801c595e.html
VIC3-2FXS-E/DID is designated as an "Off-Premise Extension Lite" product offering. This means that while the module addresses a subset of the off-premise extension applications, it should be noted that the module is not in full compliance for off-premise usage.

  • Fax sending problems

    - we have local offices with 2801 and 2821 routers, IOS 12.4(8) with CCM 4.1.
    - the fax (Panasonic KX-FT906, KX-FT25 or Canon FAX-B110) is connected to the FXS analog (VIC2-2FXS) port of the 2801 router.
    - when a call is placed to the remote fax, the call is routed to the ISDN BRI port (VIC2-2BRI-NT/TE) and not to IP cloud (The control packets go to the CallManager, which says to the FXS port to communicate directly with the BRI port. The data packets travelling directly between the FXS and BRI ports)
    - the call is set up and the caller begins to transmit the page(s)
    - at the remote site the called fax begin to print out the received page(s)
    - after the last page sent the caller shows "Transmisson error"
    - it looks like the faxes do not change after the last page sent a normal "end-of-session" message that may be interpreted by the caller as a transmission error
    - it looks like the router brakes down the call before this exchange of this "end-of-session" message take place

    Are you running H323?
Did you configure Fax-Relay or Fax-Passthrough?

  • What does slot number " 50-50 " refer to?

When trying to set up a "voice-port" on a 2811 router, for a FXS port (VIC2-2FXS), the IOS gives me a response of:
    <50-50> voice interface slot #
    when I type in
    voice-port ?
I expect the voice-port command to look something like
    voice-port 0/0/1
for example. If I try to go along with the IOS, and enter a 50... going step by step to find the next allowable range, I wind up with
    voice-port 50/0/1
at which point it gives "Invalid input detected" and points at the "5".
    Attempting to just use
    voice-port 1/0/0
    voice-port 0/2/0
etc, just gives errors (Invalid input detected) with the initial number (0 or 1)
The same thing happens if I go into a pots dial-peer and try to use the port command. Any ideas what the IOS is looking for when it says my allowable range for slots is <50-50>?

  • 2811 - Please review my work

Hi. Newbie to the Cisco world.
I have a spare Cisco 2811 router from which I removed/disabled all Voice and WAN devices (VIC2-2FXS, VWIC-1MFT-T1, VIC2-4FXO, PVDM2-48). I would like to now use this router in a basic network configuration with 2 VLANs (voice and data) for a regional office. An illustration of that office network is below.
Would you please review my router config and let me know if you see any problems? Besides the requirements listed, I want to make sure that the internal network is protected from the outside. Also, please let me know if there is a way to restrict RDP to y.y.y.11 only if the incoming address is from the b.b.b.0/24 public subnet (I own this entire Class C).
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
    Requirements
Allow all traffic between VLAN 1 and VLAN 100 and vice versa.
Allow both VLANs to reach the Internet
Router to provide DHCP for phones (server will provide for workstations)
Need SSH on vty 0 4
Allow RDP from outside to get to server on y.y.y.11 (would prefer to restrict this to particular subnet b.b.b.0/24)
    Network Illustration

    Hi, [email protected].
As shh5455 told it should work well. But from my point of view it's better to change line "ip nat inside source static tcp y.y.y.11 3389 interface FastEthernet0/0 3389" to "ip nat inside source static tcp y.y.y.11 3389 a.a.a.7 3389" (btw the mask for outside interface is 24? Really?)
And from securety side your router is no good. What can be good to do:
    1. Turn off telnet (espessially if you want configure router from the internet. But first need configure SSH. Look at 11 point bellow):
    line vty 0 4
     transport input ssh
    exit
    2. Make access to vty lines only from trasted IP addresses:
    access-list 2 remark ----- ACL for VTY Lines -----
access-list 2 permit [permited IP address or pool of IP addresses]
    access-list 2 deny any log
    line vty 0 4
     access-class 2 in
    exit
    3. As I know 2811 has vty lines 5 - 15 too. So you need copy settings from vty 0 - 4 to 5 - 15.
    4. Turn on logging information (at last for local storage. But it's better to send logged information to external device). By default it turned on but buffer size is small:
    logging buffered [size_of_buffer]
    no logging console
    logging on
    And for external device:
    logging [host address]
Also add a line for logging failed authentications:
security authentication failure rate [number of failed tryes before sending a log message] log
    5. Make ACL for external interface with access only for needed services (btw I prefer extended ACL for this, so example by this type of ACL):
    ip access-list extended Outer_shield
remark ------ACCESS-LIST FOR OUTER INTERFACE IN --------
     remark *** Permit access
     permit tcp b.b.b.0 0.0.0.255 host a.a.a.7 eq 3389
! If you want configure router from the internet
permit tcp [trusted IP addresses or any] host a.a.a.7 eq 22
! If you want check your router by ICMP
permit icmp [trusted IP addresses or any] host a.a.a.7 eq [needed parameters]
     remark *** Deny all other
deny   ip any any [log | if you want logging all blocked connections]
    exit
It's better to use CBAC to make "holes" in ACL above for the traffic that is going outside. So you can use lines:
ip inspect name IF_Outside icmp router-traffic
    ip inspect name IF_Outside tcp
    ip inspect name IF_Outside udp
    ip inspect name IF_Outside ftp
And put this all to your outside interface:
    interface FastEthernet0/0
     ip access-group Outer_shield in
     ip inspect IF_Outside out
    exit
    6. Turn off CDP at last at outside interface:
    interface FastEthernet0/0
     no cdp enable
    exit
    7. It's better to turn on aaa authentication. Right now you have made athentication via password at the lines. But you can forget to install it in the future or there can be update at the new IOS (for example at 2901 router I had a situation when with new IOS I got new line (with the name line 2) and this line by default had access by all protocols and from any interface. Only thanks to logging about fail authentications I noticed it). For turning it on use:
    username [username] secret [password]
    aaa new-model
    aaa authentication login default local
    8. Somebody can use aux interface instead of console interface for configuring router. Copy settings from con 0 to aux 0.
    9. Turn off source routing:
    no ip source-route
    10. turn off http and https servers (or at last put ACL for it):
    no ip http server
    no ip http secure-server
    or
    ip http access-class 2
ip http authentication [aaa or local] (if you configured point 7)
    11. Well, I don't see settings for ssh. So you can use it:
crypto key generate rsa general-keys label [lable] modulus [size] (btw this command don't shows at "show running-config")
    ip ssh rsa keypair-name [lable]
    ip ssh time-out 30
    ip ssh authentication-retries 2
    ip ssh version 2
    ip ssh logging events
You can also tune some additional settings like bunner and so. But all what listed above is better to do.

  • FXO & FXS Card

    Hello Guys ,
I have installed VIC-2FXS and VIC-2FXO Card on my Cisco 2651, but my router is not detecting the Voice cards.
I have seen the output of Show Version and Show Diag.
If i am installing any other WIC-2T it is detecting.
Can you Please let me know what might be the problem.
    Waiting for your reply,
    Regards,
    MAX

First, let's examine the current system:
    1-you have an 2651 XM
2-using an ios that is voice capable(c2600-ipvoice-mz.123-13)
3-the platform supports one network module and two interface cards
Secondly, let's examine what you did:
1-you installed a nm-4a/s (that means four synch/asynch serial wan interface) into the NM slot of 2651XM.
2-you installed a fxo and a fxs voice interface card into two built in interface card slots.
Lastly, see what is the problem:
    1-nm-4a/s works without any problem
2-system does not recognise fxo or fxs cards
So let's see what is the reason:
1-2651xm does not support fxo or fxs interface cards into the built in interface card slots.(where you try to install fxo&fxs!!!)
2-2651xm supports voice interface cards by using a voice network module(instead you use nm-4a/s to get asynch/synch wan interfaces!!!)
At the end, let's say what must be the right hardware configuration:
1-one nm-hd-2v(to install into nm slot of 2651xm)(also this nm provide enough dsp for vics)
2-one vic2-2fxo and one vic2-2fxs(this cards must be installed into nm-hd-2v)
3-two wic-2a/s (this cards will be installed into built in interface card slots of 2651xm)
    So you need:
    one nm-hd-2v + one vic2-2fxo + one vic2-2fxs + two wic-2a/s; on the other hand, nm-4a/s will be unnecessary
    Thanks

  • CLID not shown on FXS port

I am using Call-manager 6.0.1b, a MGCP controlled Gateway. On the Gateway i have installed a NM-HD-2V with a Vic2-2FXS module. On this module i connect 2 analog phone with capability to display the Caller-ID. When i call the analog port from a ip phone or from the other analog phone the Dn is not shown. When i connect the phone directly to the PSTN and dial this nr via my cell phone the nr is shown so i expect that the nr format received is not correct. How can this performed that the correct format is shown to the FXS port connected phone ?

    Hi,
Yes - you are correct. Looked at this one too quickly.
You will want to make sure the CPTONE defined on the port is for the country the phone is manufactured for, and that the voice-pport has the 'caller-id enable' command.
If those are both correct, and I'm guessing that they are since some caller-id works, then you need to inspect the gateways that take the calls to begin with.
Do you have caller-id trouble for internal calls also?
How do these calls come into your network?
    hth,
    nick

  • CLID presentation fails on FXS port

    i have a mgcp gateway with a nm-hd-2v , and the modules vic2-2fxo ,vic2-2fxs
The CLID of the external call is presented normally on my fxo port and displayed on the IP (soft-)phones.
I dont see the nr getting presented on the FXS port when i debug.
Called number and calling nr remains empty.
    I see a calling nr when i do a csim start <exention>
caller-id enable is configured on the fxs port configuration at the gateway.
tried several type of caller-id alerting methodes without success.
When connecting the same phone on the pstn, i get the clid normally so it is something in the configuration
    regards

    Hi,
Yes - you are correct.
