Wrong settings or faulty AirPort Extreme?

Hi - I've just joined PlusNet and have a BT Voyager 2091 router which I use to access the internet with an ethernet connection. For some reason I can't connect wirelessly.
PlusNet have kind of passed the buck and said I may have a faulty AirPort card but I think I've just got something set up wrong. It shows up in System Profiler okay with the router details shown.
In system preferences I can get AirPort to connect to the router by putting in a manual IP address - otherwise it comes up with a self assigned address that doesn't match the router - but I can't get any further than this.
Can anyone help - I haven't got a clue what I'm doing here - I thought when I got the ethernet connection working it would be straight forward but I'm clearly missing something!
Thanks

Hello Stoufferoo. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Let's double-check your AirPort settings ...
System Preferences > Network > AirPort
o Location: Automatic
o In the left column, verify that an AirPort option exists. If it does not, click "+" to create one. (Note: If you are unable to create an AirPort configuration, the AirPort card in your computer either doesn't exist or it is not recognized.)
o Verify that AirPort is "On." Click "Turn AirPort On" button if not.
o Ask to join new networks: (enabled)
o Show AirPort status in menu bar: (enabled)
Systems Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced
AirPort tab
o Remember any network this computer has joined: (enabled)
o Disconnect from wireless networks when logging out: (enabled)
o Require Administrator password to control AirPort: (disabled)
TCP/IP tab
o Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
o Configure IPv6: Off
DNS tab
o DNS Servers: <if required, add your desired DNS server IP address(es) here>
o Search Domains: <if required, add your desired DNS Search Domain(s) here>
WINS tab
o Enter desired WINS info or leave the defaults
AppleTalk tab
o Make AppleTalk Active: (disabled)
802.11X tab
o Enter desired 802.11X info or leave the defaults
Proxies tab
o Enter the desired Proxies info or leave the defaults

  • CAN YOU ALTER NAT SETTINGS ON THE AIRPORT EXTREME

Can you alter the NAT settings on the airport extreme by any chance and if possible, how do you do this please.
    Kind regards in advance.

Really confused here so I will start at the begining.
Right now I can access xbox live but only talk to certain friends and others cant hear me. This has been getting worse over the weekend. I can send messages no problem but I cant join a freinds game or chat but can send them messages.
Everything worked like a charm until I made some changes that are listed below
Had the airport extreme connected via adsl then my g5 mac picks the signal wireless. The xbox has a wireless adaptor so that also worked like charm unitl my changes below.
1, I upgarded to Tiger 2 weeks ago from panther
2, Sent the old ethernet cable from the old xbox 1 that was still atached to the airport extreme into a joytech multi component switcher that has 6 ethernet ports linked to each component channel. We have 2 xbox 360's and a ps3 and a wii for the kids so not enough components out in the tv.
3, Removed the ethernet cable out of the 360 and put the wireless adaptor back on, (after discovering the problem) re set the xbox to make it see the wireless bridge and now this..
Confused, not as much as me
Anyone please help as I have no idea what to do as I can talk to some people and not others.
I ran a test on the 360 and it stated my nat SETTINGS ARE MODERATE, they should be less, is there a way of altering the NAT settings on a g5 mac or airport extreme??
Really be happy for any advice or help from you all.
    Thanks for trying

  • Safest settings to connect airport extreme A1354 to DSL modem

I want to connect my DSL modem  (Motorolla 3347) to my Airport extreme (A1354) which will be used as a base for connecting multiple wireless devices.
I would preferr not to bridge the airport. What are the safest settings to select on the airport for wifi security and most function using airplay?
    Thanks.

I would preferr not to bridge the airport.
In that case, you would need to check to see if the Motorola modem/router can possibly be configured to act as a simple bridge mode modem. If it can, then the AirPort can be configured to act as the main router for the network handling DHCP and NAT services.
Next check with your ISP to make sure that they will support you for this type of configuration.
IF....the modem can be configured to operate as a simple bridge...and IF....your ISP will support this type of setup, then the AirPort Extreme needs be configured to Connect Using = PPPoE.
The safest settings for Wi-Fi are WPA2 Personal, also known as WPA2-PSK-AES with a long password comprised of random letters and numbers.
AirPlay does not care what type of connection that you have as long as the signal is strong enough.

  • Add DNS settings to both Airport Extreme and Express?

I am adding the google DNS settings 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to my Airport Extreme. I also have an Airport Express which I use to expand my Extreme. Do I also need to add the DNS settings to my Airport Express?
    Thanks,
    Greg

No need to enter the DNS info on the AirPort Express as it is configured in Bridge Mode and will automatically pick up the DNS info from the main router.

  • Settings to use airport extreme as an extender to the Comcast Gateway (3)?

I have been using my airport extreme in bridge mode, but now want to use it as an extender without connecting the ethernet cable to the Comcast Gateway (3).  I can't seem to get the Gateway software to recognize the airport extreme as an extender.  What settings do I need?

I install a lot of AirPorts, and I recommend if you can't run ethernet, then use a power line extender to feed the AirPort.  You will be disappointed extending your network with wi-fi.
If you must, then fully reset the AirPort and start over.  It should find the existing HOME-xxxx network and want to use as a bridge.  If it doesn't find the network, then with your browser go into the GUI on the gateway at http://10.0.0.1 and find the trusted device page, you might need to modify the setting if the MAC address of the AirPort shows up.  Logon is admin and password is password.
Depending on the location of the equipment, you might want to bridge the gateway and use your AirPort as your main router and wi-fi, since it's far superior over a gateway.

  • "Error Reading Settings" for my Airport Extreme

When I installed Server everything worked fine.....until I exposed sevices in Airport using the Server Admin App.  I did everything it asked ie. passwords etc., now when I open the Server app I get an error msg saying   "An error occurred on the server while processing a command.  type 'getIGDPortmaps' in plug-in 'servermgr_network'. "
I went into Airport Utility and everything seemed to be working correctly.  Port mapping was checked and the services were mapped.  The setup I have is 1 Airport Extreme connected to Server by ethernet with Tunneling enabled through internet options.  Then I have 2 Airport Express' extending the network and those are set to "Local link only".
My question is....could I have double Port Mapping happening somehow?  and how do I fix it so everything is handled through Server Admin App?
    Thanks for the help!

Weel i am sorry but i do not have a solution.
Yet i have a similar problem.
I mean my Upgrade went very well, but Server App asks me to type the password ofmy airport extreme, but all the times did not work.
Thus i decided to reset the airport extreme. All connections works great, but Server App needs the password. Once again i type it but there is an error, as if the password was uncorrect.
Now if i do not fix this issue i cannot use my server because i cannot connect to it.
    Thanks for the help

  • Virgin Superhub settings to allow Airport Extreme to broadcast at 2.4 and 5Ghz

I have a 120Mb Virgin Superhub (SH) installed in my home but its wireless performance is terrible. The SH router can work in wireless or modem mode at 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz but not simultaneously. I'm therefore going to place my SH in modem mode and connect up my Airport Extreme which can broadcast at 2.4 and 5Ghz simultaneously which will allow me to use all my tech at their best frequencies.
My query is what do I set my SH to? 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz to enable my Airport Express to broadcast both frequencies. Hope you can help.

Hi - if you configure the SH to be just a modem then all it should be doing is providing internet to the Extreme - the Extreme can be used with almost any cable or DSL modem without having to touch the modem so 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz would have nothing to do with the dual band capabilities of the Extreme - I would check with the SH manufacturer or ISP to make sure that this is the case - since you already have the Extreme, it won't hurt to try it.

  • HT5022 How do i access the firewall settings of my airport extreme?

i cant find it when i hit edit airport extreme? I really need help

The NAT firewall is either "on" or "off".
Open AirPort Utility, click the AirPort icon, then click Edit
Click the Network tab at the top of the screen
Look at the setting for Router Mode
If Router Mode is set to DHCP and NAT, then the NAT firewall is automatically enabled.
If Router Mode is set to Off (Bridge Mode), then the NAT firewall is not enabled.

  • Airport Extreme removes port forward settings every reboot

I have set up various port forward settings on my Airport Extreme from OS X Server. However, every time I reboot the Airport, all port forward settings are lost except Contacts, Calendars, and DNS. It gets very troublesome to constantly readd all my settings in there. Port forwards are the only settings that are lost.
    Please help!

I found the issue – and it's fairly simple and obviously really.  I'm guessing you were adding the ports from OS X Server in the order they are listed within Server.app (where they are listed in alphabetical order).  After Calendar, Contacts and DNS is "File Sharing".
If this is enabled, whilst File Sharing is enabled on the AirPort Extreme, the port forwarding entry for File Sharing, and anything below is removed.
Simply disable "File Sharing" from AirPort Utility before continuing (as recommended by Server.app when setting up the service for File Sharing).
I understand you replaced your AE and no longer have the issue – I thought I'd leave the explanation should others encounter it.

  • Microcell Settings for Airport Extreme

What settings on my airport extreme should I use so my ATT microcell works consistently?

    marciafromboston nailed it.
There are no settings or adjustments to be made on the AirPort Extreme. Plug in the ATT microcell to an LAN <-> on the AirPort Extreme.
If you are having difficulties, temporarily connect a laptop to a LAN <-> port on the AirPort and turn off the wireless on the laptop. Check to make sure that you can log in to the Internet.
If your laptop connection is good...and the microcell is having issues....you have a microcell issue. I went through 3 trying to find one that might work, but no luck, so I gave up trying. AT&T finally admitted to having a "few" problems with the devices.
Hopefully, you will have better results.

  • If I turn off AirPort Extreme will it loose it's settings?

I am a bit worried about the issue of radio signals and cancer. I want to turn it off during the night, but will it lose it's settings?

THe AirPort Extreme will not lose its network settings if you turn it off at night.
As far as potential issues, you are picking up far more radiation from cordless phones, cell phone towers, radio and television signals, aircraft, police and emergency signals, overhead electrical wires, the AC wiring in your home, and countless other sources.
WiFi would be the least of your worries compared to other sources of constant daily RF radiation.

  • How to change port settings on airport extreme

I need to change port settings on new airport extreme routers for xbox. I have the port settings, just do not how or where to make the change.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Launch AirPort Utility, select your AirPort Extreme, click on "Manual Setup", select the "Advanced" panel, then the "Port Mapping" tab.

  • Radio mode on Airport Extreme 2013

There are only three options to set Radio mode:
    Automatic
    802.11a/n-802.11b/g
    802.11a-802.11b/g
    Why here isn't 802.11ac mode??
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/bypyzb8j2lb7h3t/Screenshot%202015-02-14%2015.56.38.png ?dl=0

You are using the wrong software to try to change settings on your AirPort Extreme 802.11ac model.
Please review the System Requirements for the 802.11ac AirPort Extreme from the information sheet on the AirPort Extreme.
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3 or higher
    http://www.apple.com/airport-extreme/specs/
But, even if you are using the correct software to administer the AirPort Extreme, there is no setting for 802.11ac since it is always on by default. In fact, you cannot change the Radio Mode at all.....because there is no Radio Mode setting.  The Radio Mode is set on Automatic by default and it cannot be changed.

  • How do I change my airport extreme from dsl to cable?

I have recently changed my ISP from AT&T dsl to Comcast cable and don't know how to change the settings to my Airport Extreme. Please help.

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the window
Click the Wireless Options tab near the bottom of the window
Select the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channels that you want to use
Click Update to save the new settings
Assuming that the AirPort Extreme is functioning correctly, the router will automatically scan to find the best available 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channels to use.
It is possible that you might be able to guess as well as the utility, but you may not be able to guess better unless your scanning equipment will reveal "hidden" networks in your area.
