Applying effects to a specific frequency throughout an audio file in Adobe Audition CC

I would like to be able to isolate specific frequencies/sounds like a specific voice with background noise surrounding it.  I want to segregate that one sound and locate all frequencies/sounds like that so I can apply clean-up effects to it like increase amplitute, etc.?  Can this be done?

Well, I have good news and bad news.
You don't mention what version of Audition you're using but, if you're on the most recent (Audition CC) there's a very effective frequency band splitter (Edit/Frequency Band Splitter) which lets you split any clip into up to 8 adjustable frequency bands that can be worked on separatedly.
Now, the bad news.  Taking your example of a voice, real world sound doesn't give you a nice, specific frequency that you can work on.  A normal human voice is going to span from well under 200 Hz up to 8 or 10 kHz--there'll be a "fundamental frequency" (or range) that contains most of the information but the voice won't sound natural without the whole range--think "telephone" or even "AM radio".
Even worse, you're going to find that most noise is also pretty broad band, barring very specific things like 50/60 cycle hum from earthing problems or whatever.
By all means have a play but it may not work the way you want.

  • How do I save a specific layer as an audio file

I needed a second audio file and created a layer and placed my video file that has the audio I want in that layer.  I edited the audio in that layer and now I want to save the result as an audio file.. preferably an MP3 file. How do I select a specific layer and save just that layer as an audio file?

I would think  with Photoshop you may be able to save it as a video mp4 file then find a Video splitter program to split out the audio.  Or use and Audio program in the first place rather the using a program like photoshop that can do some basic video editing.

  • Audio File - Specific frequency range filtering

Hi! Im very noob in labview, i need help for my exam! The task is to do a audio filtering program in labview. Sorry about my bad english. :/
    here it is:
First thing: We must do a wav file with some noise then we need  to describe with some aspects:
    -The noise's specific frequency range
    - The wav file's specific frequency range
We need to with the program:
-Specific frequency range filtering ( with windowed -sinc)
    - One input : the wav file
    - One output: the filtered wav file
    - Compare the filtering with the built in digital filters
( we can change the parameters in the front panel! )

    Hello.
I suggest you to start with examples from Example Finder (in Labview go to Help>> Example Finder). There you can do a search for function you are interested in and figure out how those simple example are implemented. Combination of those examples will bring you result.
Functions which can be usefull for your task, you can find on Sound and Vibration subpalette (block diagram).
Links for examples, which explains how to use those functions, you can find in detailed help of those functions.
Do a serach how to write in wav file in LV, how create signals with specified features, how to add noice to signal, how to filter signals,...
I do not think that asking for a code, without trying firstly, is good aproach...Did you try to do your task by yourself?
    Best regards,
    S.P.

  • Best practice regarding work flow (cutting, applying effects, exporting etc)

    Hi!
I've been asked to shoot and edit a music video for a friend of mine, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to manage this project in PrE (in what order to do things and so on). I have a picture in my head which make sence, but I'd like to have it confirmed. If you've been following the "Very disappointed with Premiere Elements" thread, you know I'm not a fan of how the applying of effects works, when having a lot of cuts between scenes and clips etc. A few of the steps below is meant to make that process more effective.
So, here's my idea, from the begining and in detail:
    1. Download the appropriate clips from the camera (in this case 1280x720, H.264 mov's from an EOS 500D).
    2. Create a PrE-project for each clip and maybe trim the in and outs a bit, if needed.
    3. Export each clip to uncompressed avi's.
    4. Create the main project file and import all the uncompressed avi's.
    5. Insert the clips in on appropriate tracks in the timeline.
    6. Do all the cutting, triming and sync as complete as possible, without thinking about effects.
    7. When finished, open up each of the smaller clip projects and add the desired effects. This will mainly include contrasts, color corrections, noise etc, in order to get the right look and feel to each clip/scene.
    8. Again, export the clips to uncompressed avi's and overwrite the previous versions.
    9. Open up the main project, which now should contain the clips with look-and-feel effects visible.
    10. Add some additional effects if needed.
    11. Export/share, and you're done.
Of course I will end up going back and forth through these steps anyway, but as a basic plan it seems reasonable. I see three main positive aspects:
    1. The look-and-feel effects will be applied on the raw material, before the converting process. This should result in a slightly better quality. Perhaps not noticeable, but anyway.
    2. The main project will be more CPU friendly and easier to work with.
    3. If I want to tweek the look-and-feel effect to a clip/scene, I don't have to do it on every split (I will have a lot of splits, so applying and changing the effect parameters will be time consuming and ineffective). Of course, opening up the clip's specific project, changing the effect and then export to avi, will also take time, but point 1 and 2 makes up for that.
Have in mind that it is a music video project, to put things in the right context. We'll probably have a few parallel stories/scenes, with lots of cutting in and out between them. The timeline will probably look insane.
So, am I thinking in the right direction here? Any traps I might fall into along the way?
    Regards
    Fredrik

    Fredrik,
Though similar to your workflow, here is how I would do it.
Import those "raw" Clips into a Project, and do my Trimming in that Project, relying on the Source Monitor to establish the In & Out Points for each, and also using different Instances of any longer "master Clip.". I would also do my CC (Color Correction), and all density (Levels, etc.) Effects here. Do not Trim too closely, as you will want to make sure that you have adequate Handles to work with later on.
Use the WAB (Work Area Bar) to Export the material that I needed in "chunks," using either Lagarith Lossless CODEC, or UT Lossless CODEC *
Import my music into a new Project and listen over and over, making notes on what visuals (those Exported/Shared Clips from above) I have at my disposal. At this point, I would also be making notes as to some of the Effects that I felt went with the music, based on my knowledge of the available visuals.
Import my Exported/Shared, color graded Clips.
Assemble those Clips, and Trim even more.
Watch and listen carefully, going back to my notes.
    Apply any additional Effects now.
    Watch and listen carefully.
Tighten any edits, adjust any applied Effects, and perhaps add (or remove existing) more Effects.
    Watch and listen carefully.
Output an "approval" AV for the band/client.
    Tweak, as is necessary.
    Output "final approval" AV.
    Tweak, as is necessary.
    Export/Share, to desired delivery formats.
    Invoice the client.
    Cash check.
    Declare "wine-thirty."
This is very similar to your proposed workflow.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    * I have used Lagarith Lossless CODEC with my PrE 4.0, but have not tried UT. Both work fine in PrPro, so I assume that UT Lossless will work in PrE too. These CODEC's are fairly quick in processing/Exporting, and offer the benefit of smaller files, than Uncompressed AVI. They are visually lossless. The resultant files will NOT be tiny, so one would still need a good amount of HDD space. Neither CODEC introduces any artifacts, or color degredation.

  • OK, what is the best way to lower specific frequencies in edit view

Listen guys, yes I do happen to know about "frequencies" and that you can't fully remove an instrument without effecting another in that same file that plays at the same time, this is pretty basic stuff.
However, partially removing frequencies is one of the main things AA3 is intended for: "editing" the sound is it's main function.
There must be some better answers out there about the best way of going about this in AA3.
Do people use the spectral analysis with the different colors representing different frequencies? I have no idea how to use this.
Do most people not get into this type of stuff?  I don't get it, seems like this is what the program was designed for (partially) so there must be more techniques out there.

As mentioned, using the Graphic EQ or Parametric EQs, are the most common tools to adjust the energy around specific frequencies.
The Graphic EQ provides between 10-30 bands and uses fixed values and widths.  (A slider for 1000 Hz will adjust the sound around 1000 Hz +/- a few hundred Hz in both directions.)
The Parametric EQ offers fewer bands, but allows for greater control over the frequencies being adjusted and the affect on surrounding frequencies.
The Notch Filter allows very tight, specific adjustments and is best used for removing artifacts like a 50/60Hz hum or high-pitched buzz.
Spectral Frequency View makes it easy to see the frequency patterns and find precise frequencies of problem audio.  The editing tools allow you to perform many of the same functions mentioned, but visually in a paint-style application.  The frequency range of the file is displayed vertically, with 1Hz at the bottom and 22KHz (for a 44.1K file) at the top.  Each column represents a particular slice of time and displays the energy level of each frequency band via brightness and color.  The brighter a particular blob is, the louder that frequency range is at that particular point in time.
There are other spectral views that give different viewpoints of your audio.  For example, the Spectral Pan Display shows a sort of birds-eye view of the audio's stereo-field.  Instruments that are panned further to the left, for example, will display brighter blobs on the left.  Using the selection tools, you can isolate these sounds from the rest of the stereo field and remove, copy, or add effects to the selection without affecting the rest of the audio.

  • IMovie Applying Effects

    Hi all,
When i apply effects to clips, for example saturation, it applies it no problem, however as it gets towards the end of the clip it fades back to being 'uneffected' and then starts again on the next clip.
I have applied the effects for the correct duration of the clip and yet this still happens.
Am i doing something wrong as its very annoying!?
    Cheers!!!

Hi Jason - I have only a Histogram/Saturation effect which displays a histogram on the screen as an overlay. If Effect In and Effect Out are set to 00:00 then it should be applied throughout selected clips, without fades. Other effects I tested work the same.
Not sure why yours behave differently.

  • Applying effects to a small section of a track in Multi-track view, not recordin automation properly

    Hello there!
Recording Automation of effects is not working properly.
In Mulitrack view, I'd like to apply effects sparingly to small sections of a particular track.
I have tried the different modes (Read, Latch, Touch, and Write).
All I'm trying to do is make the delay effect turn off completely for most of the track, but come in precisely on certain words within that track to provide a delay or echo effect on specific words, but not the entire vocal track.
Audition records the turning on and off of the effects, just not at all the way I programmed it.
Audition turns on the effects about 1 or 2 seconds after I told it to, so obviously it does not effect the words I want it to.
When I'm recording the automation I get it just right, but when I play it back, it does not effect the spots where I turned it on, it doesn't turn on the effects until a second or so after I had told it to !
I've tried everything, I did go into preferences and select "multitrack" and changed the "automation optimizations" to try to make it work, but to no avail, I changed the automatch time from 1 second to 0 seconds, then up to 5 seconds...admittedly I don't understand these "automation optimizations" but I tried all types of different settings.
All I want to do is to precisely automate the turning on and off of effects, for about 1 second at a time, to apply some delay to certain words withing th vocal track.
Now I know I can go to edit view and go through the entire track highlighting different words and applying the effects to them, but shouldn't I be able to do that non-destructively in Multi-track view through the use of Automation?
IF I must go through the entire track highlighting each word to apply delay to, then what is the best way: to first save another copy of that file so if I don't like the destructive edits the next day I can go back and restore the original file?.....What would be the best way to do this and wouldn't this way use much more space on the harddrive, wouldn't I have to duplicate entire vocal tracks and save them under a different name?  What is the best way to do a workaround if I can't get automation to work correctly?
It would be great if someone could guide me through the easiest way of doing this, or better yet just tell me all the ways of accomplishing what I'm trying to do.
THANK YOU A GREAT DEAL FOR READING!

Thanks for your response Steve, I didn't explain things thoroughly enough which is why you thought I hadn't tried the automation twirl down that shows the automation lanes, yes I do know about that and did try it, let me try to explain properly:
I did try it with the automation lanes before posting here and it worked with the volume and pan etc... BUT, with the delay they only let you automate one of the delay parameters at a time, SO, for instance, I can ONLY automate one of the following parameters at a time relating to delay: "wet" or "dry" or "delay" or "feedback" or "trash" or "spread" or "distortion mode"
ALL I want to do is turn the entire effect ON for 1 or 2 seconds (using the exact delay settings I already set), and then have it turn OFF until a few bars later, when, again, I would like to apply the delay effect to another individual word or two and so on...But there seems to be no option to simply turn the entire effect on or off for certain segments of a track using the automation lane (unless perhaps I create 7 automation lanes for all the parameters)...but maybe I'm missing something...
SO, what I was doing was setting the automation to record changes during playback, then I was toggling the efx "on/off" button or "power" button (the one that turns green when on) and I was clicking that on or off for each word to record that into the automation.
It worked, it does turn the efx on and off, just not at all as I did it during the recording, there is a discrepancy between when I applied it during the automation recording process and when it turns off and on during playback...it's way late, but it does turn it off and on completely, just not in the same sequence which I intened it to record.
It would have been absoltely beautiful if it just played back the on and off toggles back as I had played it, I don't understand why it's late in doing so...
    "sigh"
    anyway, thanks for you help.
sidenote: let me know if you understand what I did, I'm not even sure if this was intented to be a function of audition, but really it almost worked...and if I guess and turn it on about a second before I want the effect to turn on (when recording the automation) then I can get it to land right on some words, if I do it just right, but too hard to guess and anticipate perfectly every instance I should apply the effect early during the automation recording process so I and I never get it to hit every word.
it seems it should just record it as i performed it, maybe there is some setting I am missing...any thoughts on this particular method?

  • How to calculate power in specific frequency band

Hi Everyone. I have been trolling on here for months but this is my first post so I hope I am putting this in the correct place.
What I am trying to do is simple in theory but I have tried over and over and am having no luck in getting this to work. I wish to calculate the power in specific frequency bands for heart rate variability analysis.
Referring to the article "Using LabVIEW for Heart Rate Variability Analysis"  http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5832 I am aware of the steps I need to follow.
I have plotted the RR intervals and resampled these with cubic spline interpolation to give a nice time dependent series. I then wire this to a PSD VI and this is where I am out of my depth.
I know from the above article that I am looking for power in these frequency bands
    VLF
    ms2
    Power from 0–0.04 Hz.
    LF
    ms2
    Power from 0.04–0.15 Hz.
    HF
    ms2
    Power from 0.15–0.4 Hz.
The NI Biomedical Startup kit can do these, however I am unable to look into the source code as I do not have some required plugins in my installation. I have LabVIEW 8.6 full development system.
As this is not my area there is a steep learning curve and I have read many forum posts and pages but am still unsure of what I need to do here.
It is my understanding that the frequency resolution is simply the sample rate/number of samples. So if I require a resolution of 0.01Hz then theoretically 100Hz sample rate and 10,000samples would give me this.Furthermore I gather that the size of the output array from the PSD VI is equal to the # of data points (This i have just noticed from trial and error so I may be wrong).
Therefore if I am using the above values then is it correct that PSD would return an array and all I need to do is simply sum the contents of those array elements to get the power?
For example if frequency resolution is 0.01 , then to get power from 0-0.04Hz I must simply add the first 4 elements in the PSD output array?
I have made a test VI to show what I am talking about and attached it to this post.
Some feedback on the required approach would be a lifesaver here. I have purchased a couple of books and read through pages of forum posts but am still having trouble with this.
    Many thanks!

Sorry about that, I didn't realize you wanted to run the code too The VI was doing a bunch of other stuff so I have tried to clean that out and just leave the relevant bit. As mentioned above, the case block executes when a peak is detected in the data and appends this value to an array.
I am using the technique of resampling the data because this is what was mentioned in this http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5832 and also in another reference that I have been following titled "Heart Rate Variability Standards of Measurement, Physiological Interpretation, and Clinical Use" http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/93/5/1043 which states
"The spectrum of the HRV signal is generally calculated eitherfrom the RR interval tachogram (RR durations versus number ofprogressive beats; see Fig 5a,b) or by interpolating the DES,thus obtaining a continuous signal as a function of time, orby calculating the spectrum of the counts–unitary pulsesas a function of time corresponding to each recognized QRS complex.35Such a choice may have implications on the morphology, themeasurement units of the spectra, and the measurement of therelevant spectral parameters. To standardize the methods used, the use of RR interval tachogram with the parametric method,or the use of the regularly sampled interpolation of DES withthe nonparametric method may be suggested; nevertheless, regularlysampled interpolation of DES is also suitable for parametricmethods. The sampling frequency of interpolation of DES mustbe sufficiently high that the Nyquist frequency of the spectrumis not within the frequency range of interest."

  • Why are my still images Blurry when applying effects?

I am creating a slideshow video using images with up to 18mp.  The images look wonderful clear and sharp until I try and add video effects to the slide, like zooming in or panning.
I am a user of both CS5.5 at work and newly acquired CS6 for home.  I like what I have been able to do, however this makes me very frustrated when everything looks good except for the images with effects.  Should I be applying effects differently?  or what?
    Thanks,
    G

    >Didn't mean to start an argument
    = Little Devil with a Grin !!!
Stick around for awhile... there is OFTEN a good deal of "healthy discussion" (ie-disagreement) that goes on here
That discussion brings out a LOT of different experiences (you say X doesn't work... but it works just fine for "me") that sometimes, maybe even often, leads to increased and/or new knowledge for everyone
Other times, you just need to realize that what works for "me" may, or may not, work for "you" exactly the same way based on your work flow
Read what everyone offers, try what you can... and make LOTS of notes so, over time, you will develop work practices that work best for you
    Personal example...
Many people export out of PPro as MPEG2-DVD to then use Encore to author a DVD
My PERSONAL work flow is to export my AVCHD edits to Widescreen DV AVI to give to Encore... so I may use Encore's Automatic Transcoding setting to make a "best" fit of video length to size (single or dual layer) of DVD
This is because I just don't care to get into all the details of figuring out the PPro settings when exporting... I let Encore do all the math for me
That process works just fine for me... other people want to figure out their own math for the PPro export settings
I say what I do, and why, but I certainly do not TELL anyone else that they MUST do it my way

  • Audition 6 Crashen when previewing or applying effects

    Hi
I recently installed the Creative Suite Master Collection CS6 Windows version of my new Retina MacBook pro (new 13" model) and I'm having a few problems with Audition. The main problem is that when applying effects (like a FFT filter or Stretch and pitch) Audition would crash when trying to either preview the effect or apply it.
One example is when trying to change the pitch of an audio file. Normally I use “Audition” as the algorithm rather than iZotope. Audition would crash when previewing the effect or when trying to add it. It doesn’t crash when using the iZotope algorithm. It also happens if I try to apply reverb effects too.
This Macbook Pro I’m using is running Windows 7 Pro x64 via Bootcamp.  I don’t have a lot installed on it atm & both windows & the master collection are fully activated. I had an older Macbook that never had this problem before. I’ve also tried Audition from CS5.5 on Mac OS X & it doesn’t have this sort of problem.
These are the errors that show up acording to System info.

The sound hardware found on this Macbook is a Cirrus Logic CS4208 (AB 94). Atm I'm using the stock drivers included with Bootcamp. Also, both Windows & adobe software are all up to date.
Can you please help me out?
    Thank you

Because my main computer is a PC with CS6 & i'm usiing my macbook as a secondery PC. Yes I could use the mac version but all my projects are done on CS6 while I have CS 5.5 on the mac partition. Plus I'm not interested in updaing to CS6 for mac (if it's possible since ny CS5.5 is an upgrade from CS5).
Anyway I just want some help fixing up Audition for windows.

  • Won't let me apply effects

Everything in iMovie HD 6 seems to work fine apart from not being able to apply effects. I've tried most of the effects. I have no problems changing settings. It even renders or looks like it's rendering but nothing changes with the clip. It's the same as it was before.
    Can anyone help?

    same thing.
had my imac harddrive replaced and now the quartz composer effects dont work. I've been researching for the past 3 hours. Does anyone have the answer to this.
I'm led to believe it has to do with not having the latest codecs? or something is off with my quartz composer (tho i see it renderin in preview) or this is just a bug that no one has the answer to.
won't somebody help georgieporge and I?

  • Is it possible to apply effects at an increasing rate

I guess i would like is to apply effects like reverb or detune that start off suttle and reach a peak i choose and contuniue till i want them to either fade away or stop? i believe this would be some kind of morphing or variable intensity included with an effect.

    Sorry... Clicked send too soon.
To get a similar Wet/Dry effect you could copy the clips to another track and add the full effects to that.  Then use the gain/volume automation to set the level of effects on the track you created.
In some effects you can set the effect level to 100% and the dry mix to 0% and then just use the tracks Automation to mix the effect. But some effects mix the dry sound without giving you control of how much.  In that case, you may need to adjust the gain/volume automation of the original dry track to match the levels in the mix.
Ok... I think I got that right...

  • Problem applying effects

I am having trouble applying video transitions between a few clips, other clips there is no problem. When it doesn't work I get a message that says "insufficient content for edit". The material I am working with I believe has enough of a handle to apply effects.
Do any of you have any suggestions?

  • Feature Request: Apply effects to group of clip instances

I have been trying to supply this feature request into the Adobe feedback form. But it appeared that it was too large to be posted in a single feedback form. So I had to split it into three distinct feedback forms.
I don't want this feature request to get lost just because those three parts can't be joined back into a single feature request again. So I'd like to post it here, requesting for comments, too...
This feature request is about applying effects to more than one clip:
    a)
Currently, when selecting more than one clip, it's not possible to change any effects settings. The Effects Settings windows only shows a "Multiple clips selected" message.
Thus, I'd like to suggest the following:
When selecting more than one clip, the Effects Settings window should display any effects that apply to all the selected clips. Moreover, only those effect parameter values should be displayed having the same value across all selected effects. This on the other hand, of course, can only be displayed for effect parameters not having key frames/timing activated.
Editing any of the displayed effects' parameters should apply the new value to each currently selected clip instance.
    b)
Then again, when using key frame/timing activated effect parameters, it is currently not possible to apply such effect to more than a clip, too. To apply such animated effects to more than one clip it is currently necessary to nest those clips into a separate sequence.
Thus, I'd like to suggest the following improvement:
It should be possible to apply effects not only to clips but also to a group of clips (Menu Clip > Group).
Activating animation/key framing to any of the effect settings of those effects being assigned to a clip group (in contrast to those effects assigned to any clip instance contained in the the group) will allow to add key frames spanning all clips of the group.
This way it will be possible to easily create, e.g., a zoom effect spanning several clips.
If there are clips in-between those belonging to the group, the group's effects won't be applied to those clips not belonging to the group. However, the effects' parameter values are continued to be calculated in the background.
So this example would be true:
    - Available clips:
    | a | b | c | d | e |
    - Clips grouped into a Clip Group:
    | a |   | c |   | e |
    - Zoom video effect applied to the group, having two key frames added:
    Key frame #1 = beginning of clip | a |
    Key frame #2 = end of clip | e |
Zoom value of key frame #1 = 100%
Zoom value of key frame #2 = 400%
--> So this will be the approximated calculated zoom value when the timeline reaches following points in time:
    Beginning of clip | a |:     100%
    End of clip       | a |:     132%
    Beginning of clip | b |: (100%)
    End of clip       | b |: (100%)
    Beginning of clip | c |:     174%
    End of clip       | c |:     230%
    Beginning of clip | d |: (100%)
    End of clip       | d |: (100%)
    Beginning of clip | e |:     303%
    End of clip       | e |:     400%
(Unfortunately, this forum doesn't allow me to apply any kind of formatting to the example above. So I can't apply a monospace font or colouring )
When a group gets ungrouped (Menu Clip > Ungroup), effects that had been applied to the group will be assigned to each individual clip of the group. For effect parameters that had key frames/animation activated, key frames will be created at the beginning and end of each of the clips. The previously calculated values will now be inserted at each automatically created key frame to mimic the grouped effect behaviour. This operation then would finalize the Ungroup operation involving clip group effects.
    Regards,
    Axel Dahmen

You could combine the Next/Previous Edit commands with either the Apply Video Transition shortcut or with a paste command if you had copied the transition you want.
OR... much easier if all you want is a bunch of consistent fade ins/fade outs...
On a single clip, keyframe opacity to create a fade in from the in point of the clip at the duration you like, e.g. 30 frames. Right click Opacity, and select Save Preset; give it a name, e.g. Fade In 30 Frames and set it to Anchor to In Point. Reset the effect and delete the keyframes, and then repeat this to create a fade out. Go to the out point of the clip, set keyframes, and once again, right-click Opacity and Save Preset; this time call it something like Fade Out 30 Frames and set it to Anchor to Out Point.
Now, you can simply select all of your clips in the sequence, and apply these presets by dragging them to the selection. Even though you created two presets, because you can only have one instance of Opacity on a clip, the keyframes from both presets will be added to that single effect. You have to do this with two presets--if you do it with one and use Scale, the keyframes will stretch out or compress to maintain a relative duration instead of an absolute duration.

  • 2014.3 -Can't apply drop shadow (or other effects) to text, however I can apply effect to shapes, Why?

I'm new to Muse, but have always been curious to try it. Today I updated to Muse CC 2014.3 after watching the "up and running with Muse" videos out on Lynda.com
I'm not sure if it's something i'm not doing correctly, but I can't apply drop shadow (or other effects) to text, however I can apply effect to shapes just fine, why?

This has to do with the way we set text to be rendered in the browser. You are able to apply a drop shadow to system fonts (which will be rasterized to an image in the browser), but currently web safe fonts with drop shadow aren't supported in Muse because we still support IE8 and IE9 -- which don't support the shadow effect for text. One sort of work around is to use two text frames, one which holds your text and one which has black coloring with opacity less than 100% applied to the text that gets set behind and offset to your text to appear as though it were drop shadow, while keeping your text live. Group them together and moving them shouldn't throw off your design too much.
