Horizontal streaks (with new HP Envy 4500)

Purchased new HP 4500 Envy (Cwhich wouldn't print black at all with catridges provided).
Bought new replacement black cartridge.  I now get black with horizontal streaks.  [Note it's rubbish for cartridge in box didn't work].
I have tried all the various test pages, realigning print heads, upping the paper quality, switching on and off, taking out and reinserting cardridges, etc and have reviewed this page in detail [ http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c03748920&lc=en&product=5304877&tmp...
I still continue to get horizontal streaks with black text where I seem to be missing about one line in every 3 or 4.
I have checked printer settings (everyday printing should be fine, but isn't)
Ink levels are fine - new.  [Mind you they were fine/full in the cartridge that came with printer too, but that didn't work at all]
Print Qual Diag report - this looks ok - no streaks to be seen.
PRint alignments - looks okish, but I get message saying alignment failed every time.  [Now used papges and pages of paper and lots of ink doing this.... No progress, and repeating yet again doesn't seem to change outcome here, so giving this up - very wasteful and doesn't solve problem]
Clean print head - most black text appears, but a few lines missing or half missing.  [Ditto re repeating this doesn't seem to help resolve]
I am now at end of step 4.  This says if my problems are solved I can stop trouble shooting.
IT DOES NOT, HOWEVER, SUGGEST WHAT TO DO IF MY PROBLEMS ARE NOT SOLVED.
When I print ordinary documents - we MS word, emails, or from web again I am missing some lines or parts of lines (where tops or bottoms of letters have been sliced off).  This is poor.
I HAVE NOW WASTED MANY HOURS, LOTS OF PAPER AND LOTS OF INK.
PROBLEM NOT RESOLVED.  PLEASE CAN YOU FIX IT?
MY HEART NOT FULL OF JOY ABOUT HAVING THIS HASSLE EVERY TIME A NEW CARTRIDGE IS FIXED INTO PRINTER.

Hello jules878,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
Sorry to hear that you are having issues when attempting to print in black ink.  I see that you have gone and went through the one document on Fixing Ink Streak. That document may not be the one that is geared entirely to the issue at hand.
I suggest that you first make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Having the power cable in a power bar/strip can cause issues with the display being dim or paper feed issues as well as issues with the Ink Delivery System.
Here is another document that I believe is more geared to the issue that you are experiencing.  Please click the following link for when the Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages.  Some steps will be the same but you will quickly see that the document does cover alternative measures.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

  • Can no longer scan with the HP Envy 4500

I can no longer scan documents with the HP Envy 4500.  When I try to scan it times out and I receive the following error message:
"Scanner communiocation cannot be established. Ensure your product is powered on, check the connection, and ensure your network is functioning properly. If these conditions are correct, restart the product and try scanning again." I use a wireles connection to the HP Envy 4500 and it is working fine as I can print documents with no issues. I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor and it flagged the issue as a potential problem with the device driver. I uninstalled the HP software and downloaded the latest version from the HP site, installed it, and tha did not correct the problem. At this point, I am not sure what else to try and correct the problem. Any suggestion would be much appreciated.

Thanks for getting back to me
If the printer will not make copies, the unit may have a "Scanner Failure", unfortunately, and resetting the router, or computer troubleshooting would not make a difference.
You can try a power reset on the printer, to see if that will help:
    Power reset the printer:
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
You can also try using a different wall outlet to see if this makes a difference.
If the problem continues, contact HP's Technical Support directly to discuss your printer replacement options, as you would require a new printer if there is a Scanner Failure.
Reach our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

  • Brand new HP envy 4500, streaks and lines missing even after calibration & cleaning

Bought printer last week, just installed/setup the printer for the first time.  No error messages or anything and everything looked like it went smooth.
I printed a few test pages (print quality, print status, calibration sheet) and have lines cut off at the same sections.   Also for the colour box (black/grey/light-grey), the solid black box has grey bars going across.  The grey & light-grey boxes look fine.  All the other coloured ones boxes are fine too.
Used the options to clean printhead, align printer and clean ink smear, however that didn't do anything.  All the 2nd test pages were cut off and had streaks at the same places.
Is there anything else I can do to fix this?

I would recommend that you contact HP Support about this, as you may require a replacement.
    Phone no.

  • My experience with new HP ENVY 17-j113el : 1200 euros spent to buy a lot of problems...

    Good morning,
In April 2014 I have bought a nice, full-loaded, expensive (1200 euro) portable PC, HP ENVY 17-j113el.
Before I was using a smaller, cheaper HP G62 notebook: never have had any problem in three years, great prodct for the price.
With nice and new machine my nightmare started: wifi does not works form the first day, thanks to Ralink 3290 card. Low signals, intermitent functioning, disconnections. Requeste a replacement card to HP support, received after almost a month.
Replaced the card with the "new" Ralink 3290, and wifi signal started to be at normal level. After a short use, the signals started again to be intermittenly much lowest than the normal. Better than my original wifi card, but not as good as the signals received with my previous HP G62. Still having lowwifi signals, "floating" levels", and having the PC at 2 meters from the router shows up just a poor "-65" on inSSIDer..  And no, it is not a problem of my wifi router: never had any problems before with ANY device device.
In addition, since I have installed the new Ralink 3290 card and using wifi on this pc, another problem came out: somethimes there is a strong "click" form the audio speakers on the bottom, even if not playing any music or audio.
     That is really annoying.
Other issues: after bios upgrade to 56 (recommended by HP, executed as HP Support Assistant software directed) I have experienced sporadic computer shut off immediately ater power up.
You push the power button, the computer starts, and after 2 or 3 seconds the computer shut down.
You have to push power button again to restart.
Additional minor issues (still not espected from a 1200 euro notebook): mousepad left key, even if clicking, does not recognize the "click". You have to push strong to make it work.
And also, the keyboard: poor, poor, poor keys feeling, and on left side it bend miserably when used.
Just to note: I am a 43 years old professional, I work as electronics and IT tecnician since more than 20 years, and I am not one of those who complains for nothing.
BUT, after buying HP for years with good satisfaction, this time I am realy disappointed with the lack of quality.
Came on HP, people does not spend 1200 euros to have a PC with this kinds of problems: bring a solution!
I espect from HP to fix all this issues with my "new" (sigh!) nice, wonderful looking, full loaded and expensive PC.

    Riccardo G.

    Hello Rightrik,
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums.
It seems the computer is facing a number of issues, most which are likely relating to hardware. In my opinion, since the computer it still relatively new, I would contact HP phone support. Your computer would either be serviced or replaced, and the issues will be resolved.

  • Printing errors with BRAND NEW Envy 4500 printer!!! Not happy.

I've tried all the troubleshooting info available on the web. I even installed "HP print doctor". What is happening is that ALL of my test pages are printing fine but NONE of my jobs are printing to completion. If it's a 2 line document, sure. But more than one page or even a long page? Forget it. I get an error on my computer that the print job failed. It cancels itself and then ejects the paper or gets stuck and the printer is perpetually stuck in "printing" mode and I have to manually cancel it. It really took a lot of energy to set this up so I really don't want to pack this thing up and ship it back but I sure as heck will and I'll never buy another HP printer again. The last one had faulty software too and I had to find a hack on the internet to fix it which basically meant removing the wireless hardware from the machine. It worked but I am not doing this on a brand new printer. Give me a fix, please.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand that you are having some sleep mode issues with your HP Envy 4500. I am happy to look into this for you!  Some questions for you:  How is your printer connected? Wireless, or USB?Are you using Genuine HP Ink Cartridges, or refills? Are you able to make copies with your printer? Copying Documents. In the meantime, I would suggest a hard reset, by going to this post, How to perform a Hard Reset, by . It is important that your printer's power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, and not a surge protector. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well. Then, I would double-check the printer's firmware is up-to-date. Getting Printer Updates for HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3540, 4640, HP ENVY 4500, and HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One Printer Series. We will start with these two steps, and see what happens!  Hope to hear from you soon!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

  • New Envy 4500 prints SO SLOW!

I just installed my new HP Envy 4500 printer and I have to say, the printing speeds are gawd awful! I tried priting a photo on plain paper from Photoshop and it took almost 8 minutes for one full page. Priting PayPal shipping labels (which are half pages) of just black print and a barcode take a full minute when set to fast/economy speed with plain paper. I have tried priting in just black ink and greyscale and they are all slow. Full color of course is much worse.  I have only had this printer a week and it is just painful to print and I am really regretting buying it.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I noticed that your HP Envy 4500 is printing slow on Windows 7. I am happy to look into this for you!  Some questions for you:  How is your printer connected? • HP Envy 4500 All in One - Printer Error - not finishing print job / non-specific error code

Help - my new HP ENVY 4500 AIO (less 3 months old) has never completed a print job if it is over 1 page. I'm connected wirelessly, and not sure if there is an interruption in the wireless connection or if this is defect in the  printer. I receive a message "Printer Error - HP ENVY cancelling print job" and that's it. It will usually happen when it's on the last page of a small print job or half way thru a large (10+ page) of a print job.  Any suggestions? I've downloaded HP Print/Scan Dr - it didn't find any issues.

I had the same issue. Got in contact with HP customer service and the first person that helped had no idea how to fix it.  Got in contact with someone else and they found the issue right away. I had it connected through the wrong port.
First find out what the IP address of your printer is. You can do this by pressing the small wifi button on the front of your printer and it will show the IP address.
Then what you'll have to do is go to the start menu of your computer and search for "Devices and Printers".
Click that and a screen will open. Look for your printer an right click.
Click "Printer Properties" and a new screen will open.
Along the top you will see a few tabs. Click the one that says "Ports"
    Click "Add Port"
Highlight "Standard TCP/IP Port" by clicking on it, then click "New Port"
    A new screen will open.
    Click "Next"
Type in the IP Address of your printer and click "Next"
After that your computer should find your printer.
Click finish and you should be all set.
    Hope this helps.

  • HP ENVY 4500 creates its own SSID on my WiFi network causing problems and confusion

I am finding this problem hard to articulate clearly and I can’t find any information on the internet about why my new HP Envy 4500 printer has set itself up with its own SSID on my WiFi network, but here goes :
I bought an HP Envy 4500 all in one printer for my daughter’s room in university, which has a WiFi network with WPA security. First I tried to add this printer to the room WiFi using the printer menu, but it gave an error stating that the WPA passkey format was incorrect, when in fact it was the correct password. So instead I had to install the printer using the installation options accessed from the HP website using her laptop.
This has worked, but it has also set the printer up with its own independent SSID called ‘HP-Setup-45-ENVY 4500 Series’. This separate SSID for the printer is causing some problems and does not seem to have any useful purpose. For example sometimes documents randomly will not print from the laptop, but if you then disconnect the laptop from the room SSID and reconnect it to the printer SSID, the documents will then print, but then you have to reconnect to the room's SSID when done. This is confusing and of course completely unwanted behaviour.
Does anyone know why this new SSID called ‘HP-Setup-45-ENVY 4500 Series’ has been set up for the printer please? Can I get rid of it so that printer is simply a device connected on the WiFi network in the room please?
I hope this makes sense as this a very frustrating issue for something that should be completely straightforward.
    Thanks.

  • Installing printer Envy 4500 on MAC OS X.10- set up bar stuck on "retrieving information"- Help!!!

I bought the HP Envy 4500 because I just upgraded my Mac to OS 10.10 and my office jet would not come along for the ride...  I installed the driver from the HP website and I completed all the steps until the last step "configuation results".
The window reads "retriving information" and it has been "retrieving information" for 20 minutes.  I have cancelled and gone back twice to no avail.  I printed the practice page and that went fine.  What can I try next?

    Hi @Elizabetti,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are trying to install your new HP Envy 4500 with your Mac running the Yosemite 10.10 Operating system. When you attempt to install the setup bar stops on 'retrieving information'. You have cancelled it 2 times with no success. I would like you to go ahead and complete the steps listed below:
    Scrub/ Uninstall
    • Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
    • Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
    • * Only do this step if you do not have any other HP Printers. Hold down Control, Option and Command, While holding the three buttons down,
    • Click uninstall.
    Reset Printing System
    1. Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
    2. In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
    3. Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
    4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
    5. Type the correct Name and Password.
    6. Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol..
    Repair Disk Permissions
1.On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    2.Double-click Disk Utility.
3.Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
4.Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
5.Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
Restart the printer. Now you can download and install the printer software and install it. Click on the link below to begin the download and follow the on screen instructions:

  • How to print black and white on hp envy 4500 from an iPad

I can not control the number of pages that print, nor can I select black in only when printing wirelessly from my iPad to my new hp envy 4500 printer. Thank you

    Hi,
Sorry to hear you are having problems.
If you are using the AirPrint functionality, this is limited in terms of media selection and forces you to use certain media sizes from fixed trays for certain prints (4x6 for photos and A4 for all others). It also limits the type of modes that you print in with no option for B/W
If you install the HP e-print app you will have more flexability in terms of media, tray selection and print modes.

  • HP Envy 4500 Installation/Ink issues

I just purchased an HP Envy 4500 for my son (ordered it and had it sent to him, so I'm not there to see what's going on).  He was excited to get it set up and get started, then to get Instant Ink.  However, after getting as far as he could, then installing the ink cartridges, he got the error message that the ink needed to be replaced (both cartridges).  They are the brand new cartridges that came with the printer.  We checked troubleshooting issues and one suggestion was the obvious-to remove the cartridges and reinstall them.  He did so and saw that there was ink, so they have ink in them.  He tried cleaning the contacts--same thing.  I was reading him the suggestions and he was trying everything--unplugging the printer; uninstalling and reinstalling it...you name it.  So is this just another piece of junk HP printer or is there an actual solution that won't take eons of time and thousands of dollars?Help!

  • My toshiba laptop won't connect to my HP Envy 4500 printer

I have recently attempted connecting my Toshiba laptop, which runs Windows 8, wirelessly to my HP Envy 4500 printer. I'm trying to scan something onto my laptop, which I have done with the printer before. I have the remote app, and I have connected to the printer's wireless network that pops up in the wifi section of my computer. However, when attempting to get the printer to scan, using the option on the printer's screen, it said that no device was connected, and to make sure the software was installed and that scan to pc was enabled. I opened the app on my laptop, hoping to get better results using it that was, but it told me that the printer was offline, though it was clearly on. I am not entirely sure why the printer is not recognizing my laptop, even though my laptop recognizes it. I spent nearly two hours disconnecting and reconnecting, as well as turning the printer off about three times. I am about to uninstall the app and try reinstalling it, but I am doubting the results will be any better.
I see no other way to fix this problem, as there is no USB port in which to connect a USB cable, like myprevious printer, and am wondering if it is my latop, not the printer, that is faulty. It works for printing when it comes to the other devices in my household, but I have had problems even printing with my Toshiba before. I have only attempted scanning with one other device: a HP Pavillion Media Center TV PC desktop. I am starting to think that the scanner is defaulting to only reognizing other HP products, and request any and all advice in fixing this issue.
