House move connection fee demand.

Hi...  I'm new to the forum and I'm hoping a kindly Moderator can help me with a problem which is causing me a lot of frustration and angst!
I've been with BT for many years, and recently completed the house move procedure online.   Initially I was told via "My BT" that a line didn't physically exist at my new address and an engineer would call, costing £130.
The line at my new address did exist, and was connected with all equipment and a dialling tone prior to my moving in date.
I was then told (My BT) that an engineer didn't need to call.
When the next bill was sent I was charged the £130 reconnection fee,  -  to a line which had not been disconnected.
I telephoned the BT helpline, and an Indian gentleman spoke with his supervisor and emphatically told me that I can "rest assured as there will be 110% no connection charge as the line was always live and was not disconnected".
Since then, as my account still showed the £130 charge I sent a cheque (now presented & paid) to cover the genuine charges of £42.33, but then received a threatening letter stating the service would be restricted.
I have written to both BT accounts and BT complaints explaining the above, but have had no reply.
My online BT account now shows the £42.33 as paid, with £130 outstanding.
To reiterate...   The landline at my new address never lost it's dial tone from the previous occupant leaving to me moving in,  -  this can be proven as the phone was used two days before the BT "connection date" when I made an incoming & outgoing test ringer call.
This has now been ongoing for a while and is causing me upset, so I would be very grateful if someone could advise me, please.
With many thanks,  kind regards....

  • Moving house connection fee?

Well basically i've moved home and they couldn't promise my infinity because flat I was moving too wasn't listed as having a phoneline (Had it in my previous house) so they said what we'll do is put you down for regular broadband install it and if infinity is there then you can call us and just upgrade. The engineer came by and did install a phone line because there wasn't one.
Now i've checked my account recently and it says connection fee of 130? i'm confused I thought it was free, it was with infinity and the customer service agent on the phone told me yeah it'll be free no problems.
I'm not sure if this happened on my first infinity statement because I don't remember checking it, I think it just said connection fee 130 then said below -130 because it's free with the package.
What's going on here? I sincerely hope I they won't be asking for a connection fee or I would have gone with virgin instead. I was told there would be no fee.

  • My iMac won't stay connected to the internet, even though all other computers in my house stay connected

My iMac won't stay connected to the internet, even though all other computers in my house stay connected, and its connection is set up the same way my fiance's macbook is (his macbook is about three years older than my iMac). Every time my computer goes into sleep mode and I come back (even if it's mere seconds after giving the black screen) I have no internet connection. I discovered a workaround for it some time ago, but now that is working less and less, and now my computer randomly disconnects WHILE I'm actively using the internet. Just a few minutes ago, the connection refused to come back until I restarted my computer, even though once again all other computers in the house were connected. The workaround I discovered before and which doesn't work as reliably now, is to click opne Airport at the top right of the screen, click "Open Network Preferences," then click "Assist me," then click "Diagnostics," and wait for everything to turn green again, signalling a connection.

Let's check the quality of your connection since signal strength alone does not insure a good connection. The "bars" that you see at the top of the iMac screen are there pretty much for show.
Hold down the option key on the iMac while you click on the Apple icon at the upper left corner of your screen and select System Profiler
Look down the list of items at the left of the window until you find the setting for Network, then click on AirPort.
In the window to the right, look for any listings of your wireless network name. You may possibly see two listings for the wireless network name.
We need for you to list the information that you see for Signal / Noise.  These will be negative numbers. Post back with your findings and we will continue.
In the meantime, please move any cordless phones that you have or any other electronic devices that are near the iMac as far away as possible from the iMac.
If the iMac is located in a corner or an enclosed area, give it as much room as possible since the wireless antenna is on the back of the iMac and it needs to be able to "see" the room.
Anything that you can do to minimize the number of obstructions like walls or furniture etc between the iMac and the wireless router will help the cause as well.

  • £130 Connection Fee - Waived But Not For Long.....

    Good evening all,
I really do hope someone can help me out with this problem I am currently having with regards to a connection fee charge.
I have been a BT landline customer since 2007 and up until a few months ago had not encountered a single problem hence when this occurred I genuinely thought it would take one single phenomenal to fix. Unfortunately this was not the case.
The problem started when I moved address and entered my new property on the 31st of July, approximately 6 miles away from my old address. Along with the usual things like SKY TV etc, all my services were taken care of by  'Home Move' teams, BT seemed to be the most difficult to negotiate. Because I was moving to a different exchange area, I would have to cancel my long standing account and open a new one. I spoke to a few UK staff members on call and there was no mention of a charge.
After longing and hoping that I did not have to wait too long for a phone connection in my new apartment so that I could get my broadband up and running, I was told on call that an engineer would have to come out and install a line within the property so booked a day off work to be in the flat.
Even better than taking a day off to wait in all day, was the text message I received from 'BTSMS' stating that my "advised appointment on the 12-AUG 2011 between 1pm and 6pm is no longer required for order (VOL011-XXXXXXXXXXXX) Our records show that you already have a phone socket and wiring within your home and can complete the order without the need to visit."
Long story short, my phoneline was working in the flat (SKY tv requires an active line to access interactive services) so without BT actually needing to do anything, the line was in there already
The problem was, I soon received a bill in confirming there had been a £130 charge to my account. I called, waiting 50 minutes on the phone and spoke to Offshore (India) who were sympathetic to my situation and he seemed to understand what the problem was. He stated he would be able to reverse the charge.
No sooner had 48 hours passed and I received another bill through the post explaining I HAD been charged £130 for a connection fee.
I subsequently went through the rigmarole of phoning Offshore, speaking to 2 further administrators and a Manager who promised to look into my queries, even pulling the necessary phenomenal to listen to and call me back - I never received a call back.
That in itself, for one of the worlds largest communication companies, unable to call a customer back, is just plain ignorant.
I have steered away from contacting the Office of Fair Trading, OFCOM etc as I do believe this to be an easily rectifiable mistake but I have lost hope and require guidance please from anyone that may have been through this before.
    Thank you.

  • Ordering phones during house move

    Hi all,
I thought I'd rant here rather than be stuck in a queue for 30 minutes. Hopefully a mod can help me out.
So, I contacted BT via the website for a house move and ordered two telephones at the same time to be delivered when we moved in. Simple ehough, one would think, but no
A few days after moving, I checked the order and Royal Mail tracking. The phones had been dispatched to an old address that we haven't lived in for a  few years. Not really an issue, but I spent ages on the phone to BT and when I eventually got through to someone who could help, I explained the situation and gave my new address. I was promised the phones next day.
So next day comes and goes and the day after we were doing some gardening at the old house and the neighbour popped around with what I thought were the new phones. Great, I thought, but after a while I checked and actually the parcel was for a DSL modem. Not bad, but not when I expected. So, I checked the latest order on the website and the status was complete. Great .. BT thought that they had completed the order .. but not what I expected.
Come on guys, your CRM sucks. It's not rocket science to dispatch phones to a new address during a online house move transaction surely? Perhaps it's just me, but working for a vendor on latest telecoms products, I expect CRM to work. Clearly it doesn't and the help I recieved after paying for a 30 minute mobile call proved fruitless.
If I were a school teacher ... D- Please try harder. As it is, I'm a telecoms professional and would expect so much more from BT.
    Cheers,
    Mark

  • WRT54GS is always connected despite using "connect on demand"

    Hi,
I use a PPPOE connection with the "connect on demand" option as I have a volume tarif. When I start my PC an then connect to the router via windows explorer, the internet connection is already connected although I explicitly disconnect when I finish. In addition the disconnect on idle does not seem to work (2 minutes). What can I do to change this?
The router is V5.1 with firmware 1.50.5.
    Thanks, Zebedee

    Hi Dah.veed
Thanks for your response.  The models I have are
Airport Express: A1264 (less than a month old)
Time Capsule: A1355 (1 year old)
    Both are capable of 2.4GHz and/or 5GHz.
As you suggested, I've set the AE to create a 5GHz network, but as the TC is extending the network it doesn't allow me to limit the extenstion to 2.4GHz only.  It seems to just extends whatever network the AE has created ... see screen shot:
    Any other suggestions??

  • House move, disabled parent and no phone for three...

Hi... Can anyone help me with this as I can't believe I'm the first to have experienced the problem. I move house on 1st May. On 21st April I contacted BT in respect of my house move. The really helpful team at home movers could not find a line at my new property despite agreeing that there was a number and a BT line there. Some kind of glitch blocked their ability to get me sorted. After approx four hours of phone calls to four separate advisors I was told that an engineer would have to go to the property. The earliest date I could be offered is 22nd May. Over three weeks away. I have a severley disabled father (stroke) who will be living with me for a few weeks after my move and with no mobile reception (I live in hilly west wales) I'm now scared not to be able to get a landline fitted incase of emergencies. The BT homemovers team seemed unable to bring my engineer visit foward.... does anyone have any suggestions?

  • House move - no BT line there - contract exit opti...

Apologies if this question has been asked before but I've searched for the offical BT policy document reagarding house move but can't find anything.
I have 3 months left on a 12 month contract and i'm about to move house.
According to BT my new rental property does not have  aBT land line installed, and never has, and as such will require an engineers visit costing £130.
I may be wrong but I was under the impression when i took out the contract that I was required to move my service along with the house move _only_ if there was a BT line in my new place to move it to, but if there wasn't then that would allow me to terminate the contract without penalty.
    My questions is simple.
Is this actually the case? I would argue that if BT tell me there is no line at the new place then there IS no new line to move the service to thus enabling me to exit the contract.
Can anybody clarify this or point me to a copy of the offical policy wording that covers this contingency please?
    Many thanks
    Jon

It seems to imply that if BT cannot provide service at you new address, then cancellation fees do not apply.
It also mentions about 30 days notice if you do not want to take you services with you.
You are going to have to pay an installation charge if you want a phone line installed, as the charge is raised by Openreach, to all service providers that use the cables from the exchange to your new house.

  • House Move - BT's Inflexible Systems

I was due to move house on Friday 10 August. I had booked the BT disconnection for the 13th August. Surprisingly BT seem to need much more notice than other suppliers and the reconnection (not installation) at the new address was scheduled for 28 August. BT say no access to the property is required so it's presumably a simple reconnection at the cabinet (although it still seems to cost £130).
Unfortunately an issue with legal paperwork means a short delay for the house move so I called BT to defer the cut off until 20th August. There was no need to change the reconnection date as it's still after we move in.
The phone call went well and all was arranged. Unfortunately I received another call 15 minutes later from the call centre advisor advising the system was "giving errors" and the only way to proceed was to cancel my whole order. This he did. The disconnection was rescheduled... and the reconnection was also rescheduled for 3 September!
It's sad that BT's systems seem to hamper customer service. Firstly, why couldn't the disconnection date be changed without cancelling the whole order? Secondly, why wasn't I offered the earliest possible date for reconnection which was, presumably, the appointment which had been cancelled seconds earlier?

BT do not provide or maintain the external network. This is done by Openreach who work for all service providers. BT do not get any special treatment, and are totally reliant on Openreach.
It depends on which appointment slots Openreach have available.

  • Keep alive or Connect on Demand??!!

My new router keeps on reconnecting/disconnecting byitself for some reason.... I wnt it to be on 24/7... My option is Connect on Demand atm, because I do not know what to keep near Keep alive option.. since there are seconds near it. PLZ HLP!!

Well it is difficult to tell without knowing which router you have.
Generally you find help in the manual which came on the CD with the router and is available online and in the help of the router web interface on the right. There you'll find something like this probably.

  • WRT54GL-Does NOT "Connect on demand"-WHY?

It does not, wired and wireless "Connect on Demand enables the Router to automatically re-establish your connection as soon as you
attempt to access the Internet again."  This took a day to ID, thinking it was a wireless problem!  Finally inadvertently tried the wired PC and it ALSO was "Not Connected" till I went to the router login and hit the "Connect" button.
What is the "automatic trigger" that should "connect" the router - I tried internet connectionsw on 3 PC's 2 wireless and one wired and there was no connection till I either powered off the router or manually "connected" it.
This is the latest firmware (BTW the page says 2009, but the file says 2008!)and version 1.1

Try to reflash the same firmware on the router. After reflashing the firmware, reset the router and re-configure the router from scratch...Now,check...It should resolve the problem !!!
