Officejet 8500 A909g unable to print, broken pipe

I have an officejet 8500, A909g connected wirelessly to a Mac desktop computer.  Suddenly, my printer has stopped printing, and says:  "unable to print, broken pipe."  What does this mean? What can I do?  There is no paper jam and the cartridges are fine.

  • New OfficeJet 8500 [A909g] crashes router on wireless

Have a new OfficeJet 8500 [A909g]. Whenever I attempt to connect it to the Time Warner provided gateway [SMC modem/router] it causes the gateway to reset, knocking all my devices off the network. I know it is the printer because whenever it has the wireless radio off the network is perfect [it was also not an issue before the printer]. It cannot be a software issue, since I don't even get to the point of installing the software before the network crashes.
Is this a typical issue with these printers? I may try a new router, but I don't know any reason a printer would cause a router to reboot.

Call tech support and get a level 3 or 4. I had a similar problem with my 8500 pro wireless and 2wire 1800hg (ATT DSL router/modem). Printer came Friday from Cost Central, took it out of the box, atually read the instructions, and did the wireless wizard on the printer. Entered my router/modem's 10 number WEP and the thing became possessed. Told me to turn it off then on, then gave me "Improper Shutdown" error. Over and over. Did partial resets, partial full resets. You name it. Was about to throw the thing out the window. So I turned off the radio and hooked up via USB. No issues. But I wanted wireless.
Called HP support and the first few calls were a bit rough (I love how you become connected to a rep and all you hear is typing for five minutes), but finally got a level 3 or 4, and they were sharp. He accessed my computer via HP's Live Help, and re-configured my router. Thank god every pic on my hard drive is G rated! I think they enabled DHCP on the router, then reduced the range of allowable IPs for my network, from 144 to 25. Then I was told to enter the printer's IP (I chose from one of the IPs in the range), and Subnet address. This was done on the printer under Network/Advanced settings. The tech guy was chatting with his supervisor during the process, it was a clinic in how to get a solution. Finally, he installed the drivers and the thing started working wirelessly. Then I installed on my laptop and it's a miracle. I had visions of sending it back to HP and getting a refurb. Unfortunately, I bought online to get a better price, so had to deal with HP for returns.
I told the tech guy that this model just hit the shelves at Best Buy (it's been at Office Depot for almost a month), so folks with older routers will problably have similar issues.

  • OfficeJet 8500-A910 unable to establish two-way communication with the device

I have an HP OfficeJet 8500 A910 installed a couple months ago.  On first install the HP software could communicate with it from two computers--one XP and one Win7.  Now I can scan to the locations I setup before and print from both computers, but when I try to run the HP software that was installed and working on either computer, I get "...unable to establish two-way communication with the device".  I have tried all the troubleshooting and downloaded the diagnostic tool.  I have disabled both the Norton and Windows Firewalls.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a similar problem. Brand new HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus, wire-connected to router.
I am unable to print/scan/fax on my Windows XP when Symantec Endpoint Protection is turned on.  I have to disable it to be able to print/scan/fax.
I can do all capabilities with my Win7 computers.  This seems to be a Win XP related problem.
I have checked for HP PML service...not listed.  I show HP Port Resolver and HP Status Server and PML Driver HPZ12 started.
Doesn't bode well for keeping Viruses and other malware at bay.  Any suggestions?

  • Officejet 8500 a909g will scan but wont even try to pirnt (wirelessly)

I have an Officejet 8500 Pro a909g, downloaded latest software package from hp for windows 7. Will scan but wont print, immediatleyl displays error when I try to send test print. Disabled my Norton anti-virus and Norton firewall but stil wont print. Wants to run printer troubleshooter which says there is nothing wrong.

Try restarting the printer, router and PC.  If that does not do it, download and run this utility: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-926&h_lang=en&h_client=s-h-e17-1&h_keyword=dg-NDU&ju...

    Hi ,
I've recently purchased HP Officejet Pro 8610 and unable to print from windows.
    I am running 64bit Windows 8.1
I can print from Web via email
I can print using the HP AiO Remote app in windows. This doesnt have full functionality and is also inconvenient if I am working on documents and I want to print.
    I have tried the following:
    - Uninstalling and reinstalling from CD provided with printer
    - Using the HP printer troubleshooter assistant, no success
    - Downloading the software direct from HP website
    - Updating the firmware using OJP8610_R1416A.exe
-Changing the port to the network port (in this case it is 192.168.0.200, it responds to a ping, also set the printer to have a static ip)
This is the error message that i get when i try to print a test page when i choose printer properties in the control panel
"test page failed to print. would you like to view the printer troubleshooter for assistance"
I have trawlled through other member's issues and i cant seem to find a fix for myself
    Please help
    Appreciation in advanced

    Hi @binhdai  & @JFB2014
    I would like to help you both the best I can, and I appreciate the troubleshooting efforts you have both made up to this point. Please try the steps below and let me know the outcome;
    1. Uninstall the software - Uninstalling the Printer Software Instructions.
    2. Hold down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box.
    3. Type in "spool" and press Enter or select OK.
    4. Select and open the Drivers folder, select the x64 folder if you have a 64-bit Operating System or the w32 x 86 if you have a 32-bit Operating System.
    5. Open the 3 folder, locate the HPBXPSRENDER.DLL file and rename it into HPBXPSRENDER.OLD
    6. Reinstall the printer; HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers

  • Officejet Pro 8500A - unable to print on odd-size paper

After a couple of hours of frustration, I have decided that I an unable to print on odd-sized paper on our brand new HP printer!  On an older string in this user forum, one suggestion was to make a paper cut-out from regular sized paper to put on top of an envelope to "fool" the printer into thinking it was using standard sized paper.  I am trying to print odd-sized wedding invitations, and in order to to do this, I wouldn't be able to use the paper guides intended to keep the smaller paper in the middle.
Another suggestion would be to create a "custom size" paper in the printer properties, which doesn't seem to be possible in Windows XP as far as I can see.
    My card-stock paper measures 4 3/4" x 6 7/8"  Neither 5 x 7" nor 4 x 6" will work and I have tried numerous others, such as Janpanese postcard, Index card 4 x 6, etc.
Any suggestions?  This is frustrating enough to look at other namebrand printers next time, but I guess I'm stuck with this one for a while!

    Hello @drlogan0,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are encountering problems with getting your Officejet pro 8500A onto your new wireless network.
    I would like to help.
i would try restoring the network defaults. This will help erase any 'old' information that may be stuck in the printers memory. I would like to give you specific steps for this, but I am unsure if you have the 8500A, 8500A wireless, or the 8500A premium.
Basically the steps are, go into the network menu, and select restore network defaults.
If you have tried restoring the network defaults already, please review the following troubleshooting documents.

    Has anyone ever encountered this?
My HP Officejet 8500 pro prints 3 lines then skips 3 lines repeatedly when printing MS documents but will print all my pdf

    Hello -
Sounds more like a "Print Quality" issue. I send you a link with some steps you can try.
If the quality is fine, there is a "calibrate linefeed" in the tools section on the printer. press the wrench, then tools, then calibrate linefeed.

  • Officejet 8500 color cartridges not printing the colors

I have cleaned and cleaned the cartridges but it will only print black and yellow.  The yellow doesn't print that great either.  They are practically new cartridges and when I print a clean cycle there is no noticable improvement and it won't print an alignment page.

  • Lexmark printer "broken pipe"

    Greetings,
I have had this Lexmark Pro700 printer for couple of years. Just recently I needed to scan a document, the printer downloaded something way too fast for me to stop and after that I am not able to print. When I was able to print antyhing it did not print properly and then totally quit. The hardware is working as I can make copies, but I cannot print wireless or via usb cable. I tried Lexmark and they will offer support if I pay extra, despite my warranty. Anyway, the printer was on the network and 3 computers was able to print, now none of them are. Lion, Mountain Lion and a XP. The support & download site of Lexmark cannot be accessed in either computers. I did purchase a replacement printer and am able to print, but still somethng seens a bit off. Do I have corrupted files? How can I go about finding them? How canI repair teh broken pipe?
Also, the IP address in the printer is valid as we were able to access it. I tried to enter the ip address to set the printer up and still got no results. Help??
    Thanks.
    Miriam

I have been having the same problem!  I have a Lexmark S505 Intuition.  For awhile it printed wirelessly just fine.  After several chats with the techs, no one seems to be able to help me!  However, it seems from forums that it is a common problem.
I will send a print job to the printer.  I will get a message that there is no communication.  Then, I will "pause" and "resume" the printer and it will finally print.  After a few jobs, though, I get a "broken pipe" message.  I have gotten the most recent software and firmware updates, uninstalled, and reinstalled, etc.  I don't know what else to do.  It is still under warranty, but Lexmark wants me to pay for premium support, saying the printer works.  HELP!!!!

  • Officejet Pro 6830 unable to print

I was able to print wirelessly to my Officejet Pro 6830 and all of a sudden I can't do so today. I have performed diagnostics and everything shows up OK. However when I checked the printer job status, nothing shows up.
How do I go about solving this issue?

    Hi @VexedHPUser
    Perhaps the Microsoft Fix it utility will help;
    What it fixes
You are unable to install a printer, connect to a printer, or print more than one job at a time
You receive an error indicating your Print Spooler service is experiencing problems
You receive an error indicating your is not the default printer
You receive an error indicating: cannot be contacted over the network
Identify if your printer is turned off
Identify if your printer toner is low or empty causing your print job to appear faint or it does not print at all
Identify if your printer paper is low or empty
Identify if the printer has a paper jam which is preventing it from operating normally
Identify if a print job that is in the print queue is preventing other print jobs from printing
Identify if you need to update your print driver
You receive an error stating that your Plug and Play printer %PRINTERNAME% has encountered a driver problem
If the issue persists, I think it might be a good idea to reach out to the Microsoft Community.

  • HP OfficeJet 8500 A909g Wireless

Do not buy this printer.  It has wireless and Hardwire network connection problems.  You have been warned.
I installed the software on 5 computers.  Everything worked fine for about a day.  Then they all lost connections in the Device manager.  I have other shared  printers that are dormant and show up as grayed out when a computer is not available but completely gone????  Once it is gon, your HP solution center will not start.  And the HP add a device will find the printer and IP address, but will not completely load....  Get hung up at 20% on the last step.
I can access the printer on 192.168.1.5 and go into it, so how come the software cannot find it?  I can also load a generic Windows 7 driver in Device Manager which allows me to print, but the scan function is lost.  This printer is the biggest piece of S%&^%&*^% I ever laid eyes on.
To make matters worse.  I got a person on the phone that had no clue...... and after 1.5hrs, he couldn't even get the software loaded to see the printer and scanner after a complete 30 min uninstall reinstall.  Which doesn't answer the question of why it looses connection.  I can uninstall and reinstall - Didn't need him for that.  I even assigned a static Ip outside of the DHCP range and turned off power save mode.  This also happens with Hardwire connection.  Then he mentions BS about not working with Lexmark and Brother printers., which I also had shared, but the software was on another computer.  These were merely Windows 7 drivers  Little did he know until I told him that I  just loaded that software last night and this problem has been going on for 3 weeks now.  Long before loading other printer drivers.....Is that the just of HP's support?  Blame your sorry products on someone else.  I am not having it.......All of the sudden the remote desktop connection and the phone conversation both drops misteriously.  This was right after he could not get the reinstalled software to see the printer.  HP and their suppot sucks.  I have owned many HP products..... Never again.  DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.  You will regret it.   I like the features it CLAIMS to have, but cannot use the printer if the computers cannot see it.  Don't count on support.  I was warned by my readings in this forum.  Turns out the rumors are true.  Save yourself some time and buy a different brand.  Normally I do not write on these forums.  Am prettey knowledgeable and self sufficient working though issues.  This is my 3rd office jet (shame on me.....)  Office jet 7300 (broken Scanner).  Office Jet 7590 (same networking issues)  and Office Jet 8500 Wireless ( first one broken out of the box and now this network connection issue).  I am a home user and they cant handle my light duties.  This is an office printer and if you buy it, you will not get any work done.  Read around my friends.... • Officejet 6700 Premierre unable to print from PC

I set up the Officejet 6700 to print over my home wireless network last month, and at first, it worked beautifully. A week or two later, I installed the software on my laptop, and it also printed wirelessly from there perfectly, but as of this week, I suddenly am not able to print at all from the PC. I can still print from the laptop with no issues at all - only the PC is having the trouble. When I try to print, it says, "Unable to Communicate with Printer." I have checked that the printer is powered on. I can actually even see from the PC that the printer is listed as "Ready". I have double checked the network settings on the printer, and I have even done a complete uninstall and reinstall of the software on the PC, but I still get the same message. I tried troubleshooting within Windows. Nothing works. Both the PC and the laptop are running Windows 7 and connecting to the same network. I have no idea what else to try!

Now, if I click the desktop icon for the printer on my PC, I can print a diagnostics page with no problems. I go back to try to print anything else - a word document, a website - and I get the same "Unable to communicate" message. I just don't get this at all!
BTW, I tried temporarily disabling the firewall, no difference.

  • Officejet Pro 7780 - Unable to print or scan

I have HP Officejet Pro 7780 printer that can be connect to Netgear  router by cable or wireless and by wireles to HP Pavillion laptop running Windows 7. I use to be able to print and scan using HP Solution Centre or use MS Windows drivers, however after a Windows update (not reverseable) I can neither print  / scan using either drivers.
    1) I can install / replace MS Windows drivers (eg.  using tab "Devices and Printers" - "Add a printer" from desktop start button.  Add a printer finds the printer, and IP address and installs the driver). However it then reports the printer as being offline (although it is turned on and prints from other devices).
    2) *Similarly installing the latest HP driver package (OJProL7X00_Full_14) the software finds the printer and IP address and then installs the software but then cannot configure and comes up with a fatal error and uninstalls. It then proceeds to look for solution having run log, and says solution found. Proceeding through the process though did not work, as the next time around on restarting and reinstalling the printer is not even found.
Neither has it helped to do a maximum level clean using OJProLX00_Scrubber_14 and HP Print and Scan Doctor and use a 3rd party registry cleaner, though this gets one back to point "*" above.
I have wasted many days trying to sort this,
    Suggestion?

Same annoying problem for me.  They have a real issue and it is not getting taken care of.

  • HP OfficeJet 8500 A909g and Windows 7 -- GRRRRRRR!!!!

So, in September 2010 I purchased my HP printer and for 2 months (or so) my capability to print wirelessly worked fine with my Dell laptop running Windows 7.  All of a sudden one day, my printer was no longer connected.  I of course went to hp.com to download the drivers and install them, and it never installed successfully.  For 2 weeks I played to download, install, install-failed-try-again game for weeks.  Then one day, it worked--for all of 2 days before I started the cycle again.  I tried downloading the HP diagnostic utility, the HP Wireless Wizard--everything I could on the HP support site--all to absolutely no avail.  This "game" continued off and on for months.  In October, I tried uninstalling my HP completely from my laptop and reinstalling it from the CD that came with the printer; didn't work.  I removed that and went back to the HP site to download the full version of the software; that didn't work.  I spent 2 hours on the phone with an HP rep one day, pretty much doing all that I had done for the past year--again to no avail.  I spent another 2 hours on the phone with another HP rep another day, doing the same thing and coincidentally it worked--but only for another 2 days or so.  I also have a desktop running Windows XP.  So I figured I'd try to install the printer on that--and it worked!  So there must be a problem between HP and Windows 7.
I finally decided to connect my printer to my router and connect my print to my laptop via USB.  I can print periodically and I can scan via the HP document Manager, but I cannot access HP Solution Center.  When I start HP Solution Center, the IP address displayed is COMPLETELY different from the actual IP address of my printer.  Then it goes right to a window telling me that my installation wasn't successful.  I tried to access the Solution Center's IP address (140.0.18.23) and I always get a "Connection timed out" response.
Has anyone else experienced this?  Even more importantly, has anyone found a way to fix this?  What the heck is going on???

Did a help desk ever ask you to check specific UDP or TCPIP ports in your firewall to ensure HP communication paths?
They are not usually open in XPSP3 or W7SP1 even after you load the drivers or web mail.  In the updates they even state you must connect to update the device using USB even if you have LAN wired share with a static IP.
I  have three W7 devices (OEM W7, refurbished W7 with updates from WXP (32 bit) and single license W7 on 64 bit hardware) and each of those have had rejections and failures on trying to load the print drivers and the solution center (version 14.0).
